The old cam is a real camera, so natural focus, natural exposure. It simply looks natural not overprocessed. If it had a modern day sensor build in, it would wipe the floor with S24U and any other phone of today.. If you're looking into the sun with your own eyes you don't see "shadow details" etc. as well. All newer phones create unnatural HDR pics the only difference is how worse it can get. In case of Samsung Galaxy S the last phone with a mostly honest cam was S8. When looking at old pics I still regret selling it. Should have kept it as cam only.
I was also an s9+ user until 6 months ago. Now I use the S23U. Although artificial intelligence improves the base, it definitely eliminates naturalness. I see that s9+ gives much more natural results especially in grass. S23U, on the other hand, can be far from naturalness with exaggerated sharpness and saturation.

P for Programme, M for Manual etc. You can take real long exposure shots with the s4 zoom if you use a tripod and it’s still better than most modern smartphones. While it had an eraser option, the way it worked was COMPLETELY different from what we have today That's like, for example, when they invented ovens and electricity, You tell them it's not new because we've always had and used campfires...
The S4 Zoom was a fantastic piece of kit for its time. It is really a pity that OEM's no longer even try as hard... Apple's "camera button" is just one example. Now I'd like to see you compare the S4 Zoom with Nokia's 1020.
Oh great. Thank you for that. Such a great phone. I saw one in action at our car dealership back then. Regarding Best face: it is exactly what Google introduced last year as Best take. You select best faces from different photos and the software combines them. It was one of many computational photography/AI features that Samsung was offering years ahead of its time, with the CPU power of that time. The other one I wish they would bring back is the Eraser. You take 5 photos and if let's say a car crossed your view, it could erase the car with the actual background and not with the fake one like the new ObjectEraser does. I see also the Drama mode, also introduced last year (?) by Google as something groundbreaking (LOL). And of course, you had also styles in photos and video. "Selective focus" is missing here because you had real bokeh effect with that camera😊
I used one of these Samsung Smart Cameras for live streaming events. Was revolutionary at the time since it allowed smaller streamers to offer a higher quality feed for such a low up front cost compared to what was available at the time.
Samsung should go back to this design and make a new variant of s series. Just imagine the latest 200 mp one inch sensor with optical zoom from 1x to 10x and then hybrid till 100x ....they need to concentrate only on one lens ...they could do away with the uktra wide and concentrate only on one single lens and get the best possible hardware and software optimisation for that This would give us the perfect shot right from 1x to 10x ..no need for periscope tech . Photo enthusiasts won't mind the thickness increase ...people have accepted the fold series and they can accept this too. Samsung must get this concept back with the latest tech and lenses .
And then People say: Where is my Ultrawide and why should a modern phone be this thick and only enthusiasts will actually get it. Just like last time but worse.
well that's why you shoot in raw and edit in post witth lightroom etc. - been having fun with my s21ultra lately, can create photos the auto mode on camera just cannot, the 10x telephoto lens is a gem, just it suffers heavily in low light due to the sensor being small and mounted sideways somewhere in there, but out in daytime can create some really nice shots. also camera raw application creates much better night mode photos than standard camera app's night mode ;) - camera assistant should be enabled in "labs" - you can tweak the shooting speed vs processing in there, been watching these brand vs brand phone camera reviews lately and most of the things they compare are related to auto processing and as long as you can shoot and edit your own raw files it shouldn't even matter much
Raw images are kinda ass still on mobile. Buuuut if you know how to edit they can be OK. I just use GCam. It gets rid of all the crappy samsung post processing. All the sharpening. It looks natural and 10 times better
I love photography and I have a few cameras I love usig, however I hate how smartphones whant to make "better" all the pictures with forced HDR that makes everything look flat, and over sharpening that makes everything looks like sandpaper. This old galaxy camera is so good, if any company would create a camera phone like this nowadays I'm sure I would buy it (but probably they would have the same artificial enhancements that all other phones have)
Can confirm, I've tried the 10x, 30x and 100x zooms on the S24U against my S21U, the newer device seems to be doing a lot of AI upscaling and over sharpening & inventing details. Absolutely horrible. What's funnier is Gcam produced exceptionally better photos than my S21U's stock camera app, which is laughably better than the S24U's. But that could be a good thing. Perhaps if you tried Gcam for your S24U, you'll be blown away by the results and not upset by the artificial enhancements
Excellent video mate. Very advanced technology then.. I had a prntax option 4 back in 2004 and it was the size of a credit card and had so many features jammed packed in a very small package and had the option to add voice over any photo and had world time and built in alarm and 3D photos it came with glasses to view your 3D photos and had built in voice recorder as well
I wish theyd do this again as a luxury product. Maybe the near 2k price tag would be worth it for once. But seriously, a proper camera on a phone would be excellent.
I remembered this phone! The quality is not great, but it has "real" optical settings like ISO, shutter speed, etc. it gives a lot of flexibility to manage the incoming light. I also think if it has better sensors, it will be great!
I had the s4 zoom for some years. Used it as camera only, but at that job it was brilliant! Had to give it away last year because something got in the lens, and could be seen on every picture.
Well, in the first place - at the time when S4 Camera came out, the Lumia 1020 was killing it all, including this one. Second - Samsung has always been like this - artificial and gimmicky. And third - man, your play in The Penguin was great! Kudos!
Image processing and sensor tech came a long way, but you can't beat the physics of a bigger sensor / lens system. Also i doubt the S24 is always the more natural skin tone, but more of a more pleasing to the eye one.
S4 Zoom has some good glass, fantastic video! I think because it's using a fairly old sensor, and it doesn't have all those modern computational photography tricks, it really comes down to how much light you give it. I've got some old gear at home, one of which is a budget DSLR from 2014 and as long as lighting conditions are good it can still take brilliant shots out shining even a modern flagship. But when you are at a dinner event or just really overcast conditions, the post-processing of modern phones is hard to beat. But I think you really hit the nail on the head with why the S24 can sometimes look so fake. Again great video, love to see the old classics talked about.
I had the S4 Zoom then bought the later Samsung K Zoom which was greatly improved. I then bought a Galaxy Camera which for the time took some amazing photos and you could even make (speaker) calls on it! I wish Samsung would bring out more interesting devices like these again.
With the S24, did you ensure that all AI and Auto HDR ETC are all off? I have a fold 4, and if i have the AI on or use the assistant the photos are highly over processed, turning them all off resulted in much clearer more natural results. AI SUCKS
You really need to compare these again, but against pro mode with raw images which don't have that extreme post processing on them I'm really curious about that comparison
I think It is the difference between taking 1 photo vs taking 30 photos at different exposures and stack them toghether in some weird mode to obviate motion blur
It's pretty funny that actually s4 zoom is good at zoom picture even 10 years later. At that time I had a note 3 and I wouldn't expect use it today for pictures. That s4 zoom tho? Going up against one of the best photo phone of today and not being completely killed is impressive.
Older smartphones and cameras in general needed some sort of "patience" back in the days. Back then there were no such things as OIS or sensor shift. I mean, some shooters had those but these were expensive and honestly (I still think so) much gimmicky. The trick to have sharp images with older cameras is...just to hold it right? and more steadily. Nowadays people click multiple shots they NEVER view again, but back then photography was a real hunt: you gotta be real sneaky to get everything right. Also, post processing. I hate it. Too much clarity, artificial sharpness and noise reduction on new phones. Surely on Samsung it is not as disgusting as on the iPhone, but still shooting in expert RAW or even true RAW would give much better results in some scenarios
I upgraded from S9 to S24 Ultra and in some circumstances the camera in S9 perform better. For instance, it is hard to get clear text in corners of documents with S24 Ultra which is not the case with S9.
They didn't. Samsung followed up with a successor called the K zoom which is little less bulky with same camera features and upgraded OS. That was the last one they made unfortunately
I always wonder if the smartphone camera tech had caught up yet with the camera tech of old. Was playing with the Nikon D7000 in college. To this day, the footage and pics from that thing blow away the imagies and video from the smartphones I've had (outside of the S4, S9 and S10+ not exactly all up to date at the time) Samsung isn't the best comparison to though. The real imaging guys have progressed their "bite sized" sensor tech, from the photosites to the transporting of that gathered light, while Samsung is still playing the megapixel game for some reason (which arguably the other guys weren't actually playing back then, as opposed to making a lot of half publicized specialty sensors)
You have to use pro mode to actually switch to 10x camera and have much less HDR effect. Samsung in the morning uses 3x to produce 10x camera shots at least on the s22 and s23 ultra
Like #55...Shot this with the Samsung S4Zoom. The mechanical zooming noise is annoying, but there are many features that are missing from modern Samsung flagships. Thanks for the memories! ruclips.net/user/shortsSInBip2p7iE?feature=share
hi everybody on 1x did you turn off Auto HDR in Camera Assistant on S24U? maybe in that way Dynamic Range will be much similar? is there HDR mode on S4?
I did not turn off HDR in camera assistant. It's a default setting so kept it on. I tried the rich tone HDR mode on the S4 Zoom in the video, in the first half of the video
@@techwithbenefits thank you for your answer! Is it possible to get some pics from s4 and s24u with turned off hdr in heavy light conditions? S22 and 23 have 10x optical zoom. Those might of been better to compare it to. Also i know most people dont so this. But GCam apk which is pixels software does better with the modern smartphones ill tell you it would blow some older real cameras out of the water. It doesnt have all the artifical shit, its all natural, it just helps with the HDR and has real bokeh. I can provide some comparison images
look at iphone 16, not one reviewer asked apple " why was the improvement in a whole year of research by a multi trillion dollar company, a fcking camera button " they didn't ask that, they graciously accepted the food apple gave like good little sheeps

I wanted to swap my sim to that phone to take on vacation. Sharing directly from the camera would have been awesome back then.
I had this phone and lumia 1020. I miss a lot they offered like Xenon flash. We need more phones like this.
Wow that photo sound feature is interesting, does any modern smartphone have that feature?
Very interesting comparison, thank you!
AI SUCKS
Anticipating of the S25 Ultra ❤️
You really need to compare these again, but against pro mode with raw images which don't have that extreme post processing on them I'm really curious about that comparison
This device has a big brother... I still use it ...and love it... Samsung Galaxy K Zoom. AKA Zoom 2
I used to have this phone back in the day and it was a terrible camera. Because the aperture is so small, most pictures came out blurred.
Would be nice to try and get GCam running on the S4 Zoom to see what some modern post processing does to the image quality
as a casual astrophotographer, this would've been a killer for me
I think It is the difference between taking 1 photo vs taking 30 photos at different exposures and stack them toghether in some weird mode to obviate motion blur
10x on the s24 ultra looks utterly horrendous. The s4 zoom looks better on most of these. Can’t stand that artificial oil painting look.
Please try out the action shot. It's a brilliant feature I had used in S2. Wish they had retained it.
I still love this even though I never had the device but I also love the s9+ camera till this very day
1. phone + text massage
2. phone + alarm
3. phone + screen
4. phone + game
5. phone + radio
6. phone + kamera
7. phone + internet browser
8. phone + TV
9. phone + app
10. etc
It's pretty funny that actually s4 zoom is good at zoom picture even 10 years later. At that time I had a note 3 and I wouldn't expect use it today for pictures. That s4 zoom tho? Going up against one of the best photo phone of today and not being completely killed is impressive.
You should have done it against s23ultra with 10x optical instead
Older smartphones and cameras in general needed some sort of "patience" back in the days. Back then there were no such things as OIS or sensor shift. I mean, some shooters had those but these were expensive and honestly (I still think so) much gimmicky. The trick to have sharp images with older cameras is...just to hold it right? and more steadily. Nowadays people click multiple shots they NEVER view again, but back then photography was a real hunt: you gotta be real sneaky to get everything right.
Also, post processing. I hate it. Too much clarity, artificial sharpness and noise reduction on new phones. Surely on Samsung it is not as disgusting as on the iPhone, but still shooting in expert RAW or even true RAW would give much better results in some scenarios
good content!, can you do a mini review of s4 zoom but with the latest software upagrades available , like Gcam HDR+ feature??.. greetings
Is it a oceanic oci computer on your wrist?
Wow, the S4 photos are way better (more natural) except the obvious details.
It would be awesome if Samsung released a similar modern device.
The 808 pureview blew it out of the water back in the day.
And was a lot smaller.
I upgraded from S9 to S24 Ultra and in some circumstances the camera in S9 perform better. For instance, it is hard to get clear text in corners of documents with S24 Ultra which is not the case with S9.
I had S5 Zoom and really loves it back then until it got stolen, Currently I've been using S23Ultra since launch, and doing great with gcam
All this feature on the s4zoom is what google announced on their launch on pixel 8 and 9
Wait what? I did not hear about it 😮. Why did they give up on such a fantastic concept?
They didn't. Samsung followed up with a successor called the K zoom which is little less bulky with same camera features and upgraded OS. That was the last one they made unfortunately
I have a Samsung Galaxy K Zoom. This was my favorite smartphone.
I have similar experience with Moto 10x Zoom Mode made by Hassleblade. It has natural bochke but the dinamic range is not good.
Apple have copied stuff from an old old S line then😂
Some of the features in the S4 zoom's camera software is actually an " AI innovation" nowadays
Videolarınıza diğer diller için de altyazı eklerseniz escpecially Turkish daha fazla izlenirsiniz.
I always wonder if the smartphone camera tech had caught up yet with the camera tech of old.
Was playing with the Nikon D7000 in college. To this day, the footage and pics from that thing blow away the imagies and video from the smartphones I've had (outside of the S4, S9 and S10+ not exactly all up to date at the time)
Samsung isn't the best comparison to though.
Also try the Galaxy K Zoom, which was the S5 Zoom iirc.
I remember having the S4 Zoom....I was the talk of the whole work place lol.....I need to buy another one haha
If the S4 zoom supported raw im sure it would be a killer cell phone camera
10:10 yeah the s4 looks way more real and 3D
You have to use pro mode to actually switch to 10x camera and have much less HDR effect. Samsung in the morning uses 3x to produce 10x camera shots at least on the s22 and s23 ultra
Imagine what Samsung could do if they made a new version of the s4 zoom today!
Watching this nice video, and noticing, what looks like, Icelandic flag pillows at 12:59? Being from Iceland, it piqued my interest 🙂
S4 zoom takes a bit soft picture but can be tweak ro super sharp and great in editors.
I had that half-button press to focus on a 2005/2006 sony ericsson 😹
If Samsung went back to this over the fold, I'd buy it
Like #55...Shot this with the Samsung S4Zoom. The mechanical zooming noise is annoying, but there are many features that are missing from modern Samsung flagships. Thanks for the memories!

hi everybody
on 1x did you turn off Auto HDR in Camera Assistant on S24U? maybe in that way Dynamic Range will be much similar?
is there HDR mode on S4?
I did not turn off HDR in camera assistant. It's a default setting so kept it on.
I tried the rich tone HDR mode on the S4 Zoom in the video, in the first half of the video
@@techwithbenefits thank you for your answer!
Is it possible to get some pics from s4 and s24u with turned off hdr in heavy light conditions?
And some pics with turned on on s24u + some pics on hdr mode on s4 if this mode exsist on this phone :)
Thank you for your video
Btw, come to visit Uzbekistan!
I can provide some comparison images
you should compare it to the s23U shich also has a 10x optical zoom, it would be interesting for sure
Optical zooms for the win!
18:40 i like the S4 more ngl
When I want a natural look in my Samsung cellphone, similar to the digital camera, I shot in raw, so shadows will be shadows.
Bruh, the sensor upgrade to 200mp on this Galaxy S4 would have been camera killer of any smartphones 💀
look at iphone 16, not one reviewer asked apple " why was the improvement in a whole year of research by a multi trillion dollar company, a fcking camera button " they didn't ask that, they graciously accepted the food apple gave like good little sheeps
The lg G2's object removal from photos (which Samsung blatantly copied) was like Samsung's eraser before Samsung's eraser...
Copied how? S4 Zoom came out July 2013 and LG G2 came out in August 2013...
Gcam + S4 zoom ❤
