Archer's Peppermint Patty plus New Drinks! | How to Drink

- I've had a ton of requests for a Peppermint Patty episode, but honestly I felt like there was nothing more to say on it... then I had an idea...
Today on How to Drink I'm finally tackling the much requested Peppermint Patty from Archer! Thing is, this drink has already been done, first, by Stirling Archer himself, and there's really not much to add to it. Nick @CocktailChemistry knocked it out of the park with his episode on it, so I've been reluctant to do an episode on this one because I didn't feel like I had much to add to the conversation. Then it hit me, Archer is known for throwing together cocktails on the spot, with whatever is handy... what if I started with a Peppermint Patty, and then did new riff's on that on the spot without any real preperation, would that be cool? Let's find out. This episode of course contains the Peppermint Patty, but it ALSO contains four brand new drinks (so far as I know at least) that I came up with on the spot. None of them are exactly perfectly refined and dialed in, but I'd say they're all pretty damn close, and I'd love to hear what you do with them.
Peppermint Patty:
~3 oz. or ~ 90 ml. Hot Cocoa
~1 oz. or ~30 ml. Créme de Cacao
~.25 oz. or ~7 ml. Créme de Menthe
~1 oz. or ~30 ml. Peppermint Schnapps
Almond Wallop
.75 oz. or 22 ml. Amaretto (less is fine)
1.5 oz. or 45 ml. Rye
2 oz. or 60 ml. hot cocoa
build in glass
barspoon créme de menthe float
Chocolate Stinger
.5 oz. or 15 ml. créme cacao
.125 oz. or 4 ml. menthe de pastille
2 oz. or 60 ml. cognac
.5 oz. or 15 ml. demerara syrup
shake & strain
A Night in Tunisia
1 egg white
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Créme de Banane
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Créme de Cacao
Barspoon of All-Spice Dram
Twist of Lemon
2 oz. or 60 ml. hot coffee
Dry Shake & Shake Again
Strain
Garnish with Cocoa Powder
The Tart Fart
2 oz. or 60 ml. Appelton Estate Reserve
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Passoã
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Créme de Cacao
1 oz. or 30 ml. Heavy Creme
1 oz. or 30 ml. Mr. Black Coffee
2oz. or 60 ml. hot Coffee
Shake & Serve on Crushed Ice
Garnish with coffee beans burning in 151

Need to have you do an episode of the most potent cocktails, the show is called how to drink not sip buddy.
how ya, any chance you could show your booze collection at some point maybe even make a short standalone vid of it
How To Drink na he would be shooting up
Hey can you tell me what cognac you were using in this video? i just want to know the name
Thank you!
Petition to call those beatiful slow mo shots "Jazz Shots"
duduwt petition to get petitioners outta here
Shooting his jazz all over the place
Phrasing
Money shots
well the background music was jazz if i know my music
I'd sign the petition
Really enjoying this freeform, improv style of video. 10/10 would watch more of.
Grugger Dugger Hoose +1
This is what mixology is all about. Pure try and error, just letting creativity flow and get surprised by the results.
Not to mention, it keeps with the spirit of the episode because he's experimenting with alcohol exactly like Archer was.
To be honest he should do more drink mixing episodes where he just experiments with drinks on the fly. Might be costly though
i love the critiques at the end! I think he does these in lives now sometimes :)
This reminds me of Archer messing around with alcohol that he's just come across on the show.
A great addition to your Archer drinks.
Demetri Night Black Mexican?
@@LoryskaEntertainment Yes that is one of the drinks that comes to mind.
@@LoryskaEntertainment Uh, hey dick? I happen to be Pakistani!
He doesn't look like he's losing his mind, he IS losing his mind.
AKA The RUclipsr lifestyle.
... And we're getting all the benefits? (curtain closes awkardly).
5 channels with less than 1m subs? You're telling me.
He doesn't look like he's losing his mind, it's been gone since he started =P
No, he lost his mind years ago, but now he's finally realizing it.
"If it looks like he's losing his mind, it's because he is. "
I thought it was gone a long time ago.
Can't lose what you never had.
of all the things that I have lost, I miss my mind the most.
The double sniff mixing test...thing...is probably the smartest stupid idea I’ve ever heard.
I think it was brought up on the Sorted channel that taste is something like 80% smell. I'm honestly going to have to incorporate this idea into when I'm playing around with cooking in general.
It's the exact thing I do lol.
I was taught to do this with cooking, if you aren't sure whether to add a spice or ingredient, sniff both, see if it blends well. Doing it with alcohol seems natural
@@avalonplemel8933 That's exactly where I picked it up from!
I thought everyone did it lol
This was definitely one of my most favorite episodes by far. I loved the improvisational energy and the sense of exploration.
"And then, I'm gonna put some 151 on top, and then I'm gonna put some coffee beans on THAT, and THEN I'm gonna light it on fire!"
Do Sokka's "cactus juice" from the The Last Airbender !! Just sayin
He might have to complete the mixing off camera to make it show accurate.
QUENCHIEST!
Yes I would love that.
Mescaline in water
Isn't it just peyote.
"And we just want a bar spoon of this" *proceeds to pour in half the bottle over the top of a bar spoon*
Well, he technically emptied the bar spoon into it a single time lol
“Just two shots of vodka”
Seems accurate to how Archer would actually measure things
This is exactly how I imagine bartenders create drinks at 3 am after everyone is gone
As someone with bartender friends. I can tell you with confidence that this is how bartenders make drinks at 3pm before everyone arrives. (Mostly because at 3am they just wanna go home lol.)
@@rikaze exactly
2:15, when he starts to say he’s going to wing it, I can feeeeel the producers’ eyes rolling. This is who we are, we’re wingers.
You’re so close to a Buffalo Milk in that second to last drink, if you don’t know is the drink of Catalina Island, and you should try it and do your take on it.
.5oz Kahlua
.5oz creme de banana
.5oz creme de cacao
1oz vodka
3oz milk
Blend with ice and garnish with whipped cream and nutmeg
Worst hangover ever was to many buffalo milks over in 2 harbors

That sounds great

Chocolate Stinger? Sounds like a suprise finger poke to your brown eye.
I wasn't going there, but yeah...
It wasn't before, but I will petition all corners of the internet to make this term a reality.

Hey, chef here. I do the smell thing too for dishes and drinks.
Looks dumb, but it works.
Happy International Irish Whiskey Day
Avid drinker are we, more than just juice in that head.
Cool to see you on this corner of youtube too 👀
🥃
How is it that I've been a subscriber to you for you and How to Drink for years and I just now saw this comment? Its certainly the most unlikely crossover event I've ever seen.
Wait....Juicehead? As in the dude i have been watching fallout stuff for YEARS now, Juicehead? This has to be the first time i have been glad to check the youtube comment section. Lol
I’m definitely making the “Tart Fart” and “A Night in Tunisia”
The Tart Fart sounds like it should be a blender drink. Served in a big ol' Margarita glass.
Could be!
It was really fun seeing you make up some drinks on the spot, would definitely love to see more stuff like this.
1:37 when you get kissed by a mermaid...
11:06 greg goes full brad leone
I don't get the first one. care to explain? *Tips Fedora*
When he pours everything together I just shouted "nooo!" 😂
"We've been making them since..." *Stares at thousands of people*
"..College..."
I love the spur-of-the-moment inventiveness of this episode! Really enjoyed it! Would love to see more, along with your other, more prepared videos!
Volume was too high on my headphones and now I'm all MAWP MAWP MAWP MAWP, great now I have tinnitus !
Enjoy! I've had it for years. Now I listen to this shit, as I fall asleep, instead of my ears ringing
So your volume was in the danger zone?
I remade the “night in Tunisia” and I must say it was beautiful 😍
I must have poured mine wrong...
Instead of a heady night in Tunisia, I woke up in a pool of my own sick in a howard johnsons bathroom, my wallet missing, wearing a tutu, and a mouth that tasted like I tongue punched a camel's fartbox...
“So this is the almond wallop, aaaaand it’s gone”
The last 3 seasons of Archer have been BAAAAD.
Yeah, "old" Archer was better. I stopped watching after Vice honestly because it just didn't have the same feel :l
That Gene Belcher moment was great
It reminds me of an Moroccan restaurant, so I name it after Tunisia, which is country about 1000 miles away from it...
Love your videos and drinks Greg, keep up the good work and also the streams, fantastic to see how you enjoy streaming and live interaction.
Slin Pel can you blame him? He was drunk before the episode even started 😂
It's incredible to watch you invent and plan on the fly. I could almost see the flavors blending on your imaginary tongue!
I don't think I've ever heard a phrase as beautiful as "wall of rum".
Please do more episodes like this! I love the just playing around with ingredients that you have on hand, really shows the thought process behind creating cocktails, love it!
Is it me or did it seem he was a bit mad that archer's version was so good?
Clearly brought back a bad college memory for him
He Hates when the low class version is really good
@@blairbuskirk5460 never pegged him for a snob.
@@blairbuskirk5460 he just doesn't tho
@@jinxiejae Neither did I, I don't think he is. Sure he hipster'd the White Russian at first, but he's also the same guy who liked the Orange Whip, which amounts to an orange Julius with a kick of alcohol.
Favourite show and RUclips channel, in one sitting - Yay!
Just watching you process off the cuff drinks and witnessing such excitement while you are working things out is just... such a breath of fresh air. It gives me joy in watching you showing such passion in creating drinks.
I m love the smelling of the different ingredients as the method to decide what else to add. Been doing it for years!! Love all of the new drink creations. Can’t wait to swing by the store to pick up what I’m missing and trying them all!!
Still haven't done a Dirty Girl Scout, just saying. But those do look like nice dessert drinks
At his age he probably shouldnt be doing girls scouts, dirty or otherwise.
@@DH-xw6jp omg 😂😂
Since you’re getting a Moroccan feel, should it be called a night in Marrakesh?
Probably- but then it wouldn’t reference the song
How To Drink ahh sorry, I completely missed that reference
Call it Road to Morocco
The tart fart “gets better as you settle into it.” 😂
Really loving the jazzy, freeform style! Honestly I’d totally love watching whole videos of Greg JUST experimenting and trying to make new drinks on the fly. Maybe centered around a theme or trying to recreate a flavor like “Moroccan” or “Banana Split.”
It's official. He's lost his mind.
Poor guy
Greg, I do the sniff test cooking all the time
60% of the time it works every time
Greg... Never... Stop... THIS! Amazing stuff. Now I'm just sniffing any two bottles going.... YES!
I love this, you and your team are constantly innovating and continue to provide an incredible product. Thank you.
He's like a drunk crazy alchemist I love it
Liked. Subbed. Dingdangdonged. Watching now. LOVE ARCHER. I’m gonna make this drink After my exam this week. Hey Greg..... Greg....... GREG! *dangerzone*
The drink experimentation is wicked awesome. Great stuff, you've supplied me with many good drinks for my friends and I! Big ups
I love the approach you took to the cocktail by just riffing a bunch of ideas! I'd love to see something like this again in the future!
Do the "original cocktails" of the Venture Brothers! Go Team Venture!
If you don't make a cocktail called Brock F*cking Samson, you're really shooting yourself in the foot here guy. The only cocktail that requires a blond mullet to drink it.
Reminds him of Moroccan restaurant = "Night in Tunisia"
Americans... ;)
Presumably it's a night in the western Sahara?
Something very similar to a peppermint patty is a common street drink in Berlin and parts of eastern Germany. It's called "Berliner Luft Schoko" and is available nearly everywhere.
Really like this form of video with all the spontaneous ideas. Need more of this.
I love trying to make drinks off your show, and have even come up with a couple originals thanks to you!! I sent them to you on instagram !
What about doing a fan submission edition of HTD? That seems like it could be pretty neat!
I love this format, you should keep doing it !
Try taking your hot buttered rum recipe with the fat washing, add a clove or two, and add some apple liqueur. I'm imagining an amazing apple pie vibe.
What college student just has all that to mix 😂 we just binge drink no time for all that 😂
Brandon Miller right?? I was NOT using creme de cacao in college 😂 maybe peppermint schnapps and chocolate milk, but nothing this fancy.
"The Spice must flow....."
what he described with smelling the drinks is exactly how I pick spices when I'm cooking. it works, really well if you know the flavours that you're working with
You take the mystery out of making drinks. Lots of great ideas. Thanks!
I feel like if Matty Matheson and Ron Swanson had a love child, it would be you
I love this format of just chaos in building new drinks. Would love to see more.
Hiya, Greg & Co
Friend suggested your channel and I've been binge-watching your videos for a few weeks during my free time and I'm just so impressed. Sometimes confused or concerned... but mostly impressed. I'm not much of a bar person, but I absolutely love cooking crazy stuff. Turns out the two translate pretty well to each other. Bought my first bottle of maraschino liqueur. Never had it before and I have no idea what I am going to make with it yet, but you use it so often it must be good. Looking forward to going through some of your Patreon exclusive stuff later tonight. Thanks a ton for all the laughs and great content so far!
Please make the Buffalo Milk in Supernatural: Dog Daze
Hm, the 'Almond Wallop' is a God Father with hot chocolate. I feel that should reflect in the name somehow.
EDIT: A 'Father Winter'? 😲
TheMrVengeance a god wallop
Greg, this is my favorite format for you videos. Please more of this!
After falling down the rabbit hole of this channel, this is the episode that got me to subscribe. It's inventive, free-wheeling, fun, and informational. I love how you apply your vast experience and knowledge without coming off as snobbish or better-than-thou. And it's making me try to make things myself, which makes me appreciate cocktails more (much like making food does).
The last drink should've been called "The Angry Snowman"
Greg I love your show and I love to try but I'm under age so technically I can't have alcohol, could you make some more non alcoholic cocktails for us young ones
Try his Romulan Ale episode, or D&D episodes. Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head, but I think there’s more
I like how you're slowly going crazy. Love it! Happy follower
I love listening to your show while I work, the background music (though repetative) is AWESOME!!!
Thumbs up for "THE OCHO"
Serving minors _and_ belly dancers? I had a smoke shop who served minors when I was 16 and Goth. Having a bar with sexy dancers? I guess I missed out on youthful mischief while living in AZ.
This video is exactly what I like to see from you. This and the vodka tasting game are my favorites
This was already one of my favorite RUclips channels, but these drinks just seal the deal!
Oh wow literally 3 minutes from the upload, i need to improve.
True to Archer form: here’s a bunch of liquor, let’s make a bunch of drinks and name them cool things.
I think this is one of your best episodes! Total free reign for experimentation and you used so many different ingredients without going ape shit crazy. It's difficult to make drinks with creamy/coffee/chocolate/mint components and you presented every cocktail very well. Nice work *thumbs up*
Love this channel so much, also love how these are filmed in batches. That way you can play "is he hammered?"
This reminds me of Moroccan food, I'm gonna call it a Night in Tunisia!
This is really fun. I appreciate a lot now you show off mixing drinks without being pretentious or toximanly. Mixing is fun and everyone is invited
This was wonderful. I'd love to see more episodes like this.
i love watching him improvise. definitely my favorite part of this channel
Riffing on Archer drinks? I'm all in! Great episode, would love to see similar stuff in the future!
Very fun episode! They all seem good. Have to try them ✌️
While at my bar I always smell what im making as I build it. Love seeing this
I'm glad he started with an innuendo and was right there with the
"Phrasing!"
Fun episode! Love the madness driven creativity.
Nice little rift there. Fun to see what goes into the creative process a bit at least. Plus, the best things (and the worse) come from just kinda riffing along and wondering how it goes. I have learned that with cooking. I have had some amazing things working with leftovers in the fridge and I have had some mighty disasters too
I'd love to see you do more custom stuff, all of those drinks seem amazing and I loved just seeing what you could come up with
great video
Great Video, Greg!! Entertaining as always, and Thank You for the history lessons from other videos too! Take Care!
The smelling while mixing thing is something I do with spices/herbs in sauces a lot. Works every time.
I love episodes like this when it's on the fly, and you can see the cogs turning in Greg's wonderful brain.
Really love these riffing episodes, would love to see more
I've totally been making these for years, love it.
That was a fun video, I like how you were just inventing there. It was inspirational as we all get desperate with rapidly emptying liquor cabinets in these troubled times.
Love this episode!!!
Aaaah I've been hoping for more Ammoretto cocktails, it's such a delicious drink.
Amazing stuff as always Greg
My husband taught me the trick of smelling what you're going to add at the same time as your dish when cooking to decide if they go together. I've had good success with it!
