I was 10 when this song came out. I was in the back seat of my mom's car on the way home from school and a guy pulled up next to us to make a right turn. I heard like 5 seconds of it and it was the best song I'd ever heard. Then he drove away and I had no idea how to find it. Today I heard it in a movie trailer. I finally fuckin found it.
I just turned this jawn on for this first time in years cuz its randomly been stuck in my head and got goosebumps "what you know about night terrors? Nothing........ Ill be fine" shit hits different in a time like this.
I remember being severely depressed and anxious for years and coming back to this song. I randomly was reminded of this song and am grateful for God keeping me around. I can now say that the Lord Jesus has delivered me from mental health issues and I am walking in the Joy of his freedom. Before you give up, know God loves you and will make a way for you. He hears your deepest cry and will never forsake you. Trust in the Lord always, he is not slack in his promises, and he works for the good of those who love him. Romans 8:26-28 “26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

This song for me brings out the feeling of being able to have everything, all the people surrounding you.. but you still feel so alone and empty. I’ve struggled with depression and I feel like this song embodies it perfectly. Being able to be happy while you’re distracted and then coming to the realization you are still very sad. You can do what you want, you can be “fine” once you get it, (alcohol drugs girls) but honestly we all have a void that needs to be filled and those things can’t satisfy. Truly only Jesus can. Being famous for some individuals is probably one of the most isolating experiences. To be constantly looked at as if you’re not human but like an idol who doesn’t have problems and you have tons of people saying they know or relate to you but you truly don’t actually have a Connection with any of them. Idk to me it would all make me happy for a short while then I’d go back to being very depressed and overwhelmed. But that’s just me some people handle it well and love it.

@@Maximus5775 You can do this man! You're right; life gets unbelievably tough. But even in the darkest of moments, there is hope, or at least the potential for hope. You'll make it through.
To me the main theme in his music is coping with the fact that he is alone. Growing up in small town MN being the only black kid in town you really lose sense of self identity. And when we moved to a more urban area I quickly found out that I just as removed from the black community as I was from white people. Although Kid Cudi's life is and was completely different from mine I was able to find a bit of comfort knowing that I am not the only person dealing with being a Martian among men.
The most 2009 song ever - the wailing Ratatat guitars, MGMT lending their familiar vocals that fit perfectly into an emotional, electronic song, and of course a young artist whose debut album, sing-humming and vulnerable lyrics were taking the world by storm - incredible memories from all who were coming of age in that year.
I remember when this song came out, i was 14 at that time. Back in the days everything was just about skating, drinking beers and cheap rum, smoking some bad weed and have fun with the hommies, now they are all in different places i dont know if they even recognize me now, we always listened to this song at every moment we could, now i listen it and reminds me to those times, im bout to turn 24, i've been struggling with a major depressive disorder since i was 18, bout a month ago the person i thought who was gonna spend her life with me, left for things that i cannot control, i've been really deep down since, but also i remember all the difficult shit i pass trough growing up in a country like Nicaragua, im still here, listening to that same song with a little smile on my face, cus despite everything all that bad shits that happens to you, theres still hope when u realize life is to short to just complain every day, i started to do some exercizes, walk every day, drink some water, eat some fruits. hug your mom, hug your dog, hug yourself, and even if i dont know u at all, i love u, everything shall pass
listening to this in tearssss. I come from Syria and witnessed 3 years of war there, then moved to Sweden, the place I call home because I absolutely love it there but I've been living the worst 6 years of my life in Germany now, after my Family forced me to move here from Sweden, the country I fell in love with. Here I've been severely heartbroken multiple of times, got depression, anxiety and became a big time introvert with no friends. I hated the past 6 years I hate the person I've become.. Now I've graduated Highschool and I'm moving back to Sweden to pursuit my happiness. The only thing that kept me alive was music, and especially Kid Cudi, he saved me and my life. For that I'm always gonna be thankful to Cudders. I love you man, your music is my therapy & you are my savior.
mushrooms, man. trust me. I was a combat medic in the army & was deployed to Baghdad at the height of war. Came back with something called "treatment resistant depression" & after years on multiple antidepressants & calling VA suicide line several times a year, mushrooms were a gift from God. I understand what you're going through.
man shit's tough glad you're doing what's right for you and what makes you happy... some people really are ungrateful about life and take things for granted and stories like this are really eye openers imo
Kids these days will never understand how good this song is. I was 12 years old when the song was first released but I was 14 years old I was drunk at a party and this song came on and truly appreciated what it meant. Kids these days have roblox, fortnite and all this arbitrary substance but I grew up on this.
I found this like 2 days ago, I saw it in the 'King Of Staten Island' trailer and I hate to say this because of whats going on with it but, it was playing at the end of the final Pokimane stream and thats what really got me to go into a search for this thing. Happy I did, fucking legendary.

Nate Smith it actually goes before the 70’s I think the first time it was documented in use was when someone wrote about a party saying how everyone got lit, which was used as a way to describe drunkenness
The way Cudi disguises his severely depressive thoughts behind melodic tunes and a mellow demeanor is an art in itself. It sucks to say, but those in the most pain possess the ability to create the truest art. Yo, Cudi, never give up on the pursuit.
Kid Cudi was ahead of his time . He was first melody artist for this generation before Drake and Future . Also his emo style of music as well . He doesn’t get credit . He madly underrated

I’m here from The King of Staten Island trailer. I completely forgot about how much this song meant to me. I heard it on the radio when i was 6 and my parents were always fighting. The impact this man's music had on my life is crazy.
hell ya dude
care to elaborate?
To me the main theme in his music is coping with the fact that he is alone. Growing up in small town MN being the only black kid in town you really lose sense of self identity. And when we moved to a more urban area I quickly found out that I just as removed from the black community as I was from white people. Although Kid Cudi's life is and was completely different from mine I was able to find a bit of comfort knowing that I am not the only person dealing with being a Martian among men.
+Josh Grant same this song is my life in a nutshell
weswagginout chill ma nigga
The most 2009 song ever - the wailing Ratatat guitars, MGMT lending their familiar vocals that fit perfectly into an emotional, electronic song, and of course a young artist whose debut album, sing-humming and vulnerable lyrics were taking the world by storm - incredible memories from all who were coming of age in that year.
that was his debut album? For real?!

That was so inspirational man i hope you're doing good now and stay safe and strong during these hard times
i’m 13 man and i do some of the shit u did but worse lol it’s g

listening to this in tearssss.
I love you man, your music is my therapy & you are my savior.
do what makes u happy ALWAYS… please try to never forget this ❤️

mushrooms, man.

Never ending story
Crush a bit, little bit
Roll it up, take a hit
Feeling lit, feeling right
2 AM, summer night
I don't care, hand on the wheel
Driving drunk, I'm doing my thing
Rolling in the Midwest side and out
Living my life, getting out dreams
People told me slow my roll
I'm screaming out: "Fuck that"
I'mma do just what I want
Looking ahead, no turning back
If I fall, if I die; know I lived it to the fullest
If I fall, if I die; know I lived and missed some bullets

Everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold
Hey, I'll be fine once I get it
I'll be good
I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know
Everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold
Hey, I'll be fine once I get it

[Verse 2: Kid Cudi]
Tell me what you know about dreaming, dreaming
You don't really know about nothing, nothing
Tell me what you know about them night terrors, every night
5 AM, cold sweats, waking up to the sky
Tell me what you know about dreams, dreams
Tell me what you know about night terrors, nothing
You don't really care about the trials of tomorrow
Rather lay awake in the bed full of sorrow
[Hook: MGMT and Kid Cudi]
I'm on the pursuit of happiness, and I know
Everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold
Hey, I'll be fine once I get it

Wimar Santria Thanks loads!

Are we gonna ignore the fact that Cudi was saying "lit" in 2009?
I mean we was referring to being high so many people were saying that
Ivan Prcela lit used to mean high. Just like fire used to mean a fire, or fire weed only. And gas was only for your car or when you farted. #09
YEAH WE ARE
Lit goes all the way back to the 70’s.
Nate Smith it actually goes before the 70’s I think the first time it was documented in use was when someone wrote about a party saying how everyone got lit, which was used as a way to describe drunkenness
Imagine a rock and roll guy heard this first time in his life. I'm so in love! What a cold night drive jam!
The way Cudi disguises his severely depressive thoughts behind melodic tunes and a mellow demeanor is an art in itself. It sucks to say, but those in the most pain possess the ability to create the truest art. Yo, Cudi, never give up on the pursuit.
