In my local scene in Australia 3d printing is really taking off. Most of us just buy the odd characters and buy our paints and other hobby needs at our lgs to keep them going
Tbh I'm not even surprised either. It's something I've known more so in Heresy, but generally with the cost of Warhammer in Aus it doesn't come as a shock!
When going for the Redemptor Dreadnought I would consider re-adjusting the list to get the Dark Angels patrol box. Except for the shoulder pads there is nothing in there that is specific for Dark Angels, but its a nice discount and you get the dreadnought, a chaplain, 5 intersessors and those 3 jumppack guys with another similar primaris name I can't be bothered to learn. I would also try to get some Sternguard in there. For me Bladeguard, Sternguard and the company heros are the only current unit models that really have some flair and don't feel like mass produced clone troopers for Space Marines.
Yeah that's a nice take. The Dark Angels box is such an odd one, I like the models included but if you're paying full price (as we are with the perimeters of the video) it's just not quite worth the full price. If we're talking third party prices then I'd absolutely agree wholeheartedly.
The savings aren't huge if you don't use the (optional) Dark Angel sprue that comes with it. But even at full price, you pay a little bit less than a Redemptor, 3 Inceptors and 5 Intercessors would cost on their own. And then you get a Chaplain on foot for free. Which would go nicely with the Bladeguard Veterans or the Assault Intercessors in your army.
Your repeated comments about not getting the combat patrol made me look it up and... holy cow is that thing a bad deal! Especially compared to the Space Marine half of the Leviathan box. Which I used to start my Salamanders army. New, primaris-sized Dreadnoughts look amazing. Got a Ballistus and a Redemptor. Will definitely get a Brutalis soon to complete the family. Should I call them Huey, Dewey, and Louie?
I think that space marines are THE army that you definitely shouldn't pay GW prices for. If you want a new kit the 15-20% off at the FLG is a good first call, but ebay is clutch for Space Marines. I get most SM stuff at 50% off or less on ebay. If you are into old sculpts you can get the monopose 2nd edition tac Marines for about 60p per mini, so a whole tac squad for £6 (although you may have to strip some paint) a cheap ebay army won't necessarily be competitive though as the "good meta" stuff stays expensive. That being said I have spent a LOT more than £550 on my SM army and only have around 3000pts painted up 😂 but an aweful lot are sitting in my pile of opportunity. Ebay can also be dangerous as it seems like "too good a saving" not to bid on them 😂 It's not girl or guy math it's "hammer math"
Im from Australia and I agree the prices are prohibitive. Slowly and strategically is the only way to collect your minis otherwise hobby spending can easily get out of hand.
Absolutely right. We actually made a video back along regarding that, purely from an enjoyment perspective it's alot more rewarding watching something grow rather than a fat serotonin hit.
@the_kieran_show totally agree, ive been slowly growing a space marine army and a tyrannid army for the past 5 years. Not adding to the stress of having to paint ridiculous amounts of minis also adds to the enjoyment of the painting and prepping process, not having to rush things like you poor blokes trying to cram a patrol box in a day hahaha love your work lads.
It seems like you're doing the hobby right! Haha we're gluttons for punishment that's for sure, in hindsight it does mean we get the jump on some channel armies nice and fast I guess 😂
I’m in Aus and spend time on Marketplace. Only retail purchases are from Gap Games. Not buying any new SM models until I know what’s happening with Space Wolves. Also glad Aeldari have had a points hike.
We have alot more Aussie subs than we had first thought! I think a Space Wolves refresh has got to be imminent hasn't it? Aeldari certainly needed reigning in!
Yeah the Australian price being way more than the actual conversion rate is not fair...surely shipments from the UK to Australia are large, and therefore the shipping is minimal per box. My dad has purchased models from Warhammer World itself (at the cheaper UK price) while on holiday in the UK. They actually arrived extremely quickly because they just sent them to us from within Australia.

Back in the day, you could order from UK LGFs and it was more then 50% off... its not shipping - its trying to gouge Australians. 3d printing is taking off, GW doesnt have tables to play on/paint for free at and young people dont buy/play WH anymore... the pricing is going to crash GW when blackrock sells it off and the org gets broken up into different parts

Absolutely right. Third party is the best way for any army that is included in a starter box. Necrons are still the same tbh.
