Starting a Space Marines army couldn’t be easier…
The greatest difficulty is the sheer amount of CHOICES can be intimidating to new players. My advice is to buy a Starter Set or a Combat Patrol, play a few games to familiarize yourself with the rules and gain some experience. WH40K isn’t for everyone and it’s better to make a $100 or $150 mistake than a $500 mistake (although you can always sell your army to recoup some of your $$)
If you enjoy WH40K and choose to dive in deeper, I recommend gradually expanding your army 1-2 DIFFERENT units at a time. Don’t buy multiples of a unit you’ve never played before. Use a single unit with the minimum squad size, try it out, and then buy more if it’s working for you. Just remember the Rule of 3 for non-Battle-Line units.
Buy the units you LIKE and that suit your play style, NOT the units on tournament-winning lists. Don’t waste time chasing the meta because it is constantly changing. For example, I bought the Gladiator and Repulsor Executioner even though SM vehicles were kinda trash in 9e. The tanks were awesome-looking, even if they weren’t competitive. Now in 10e, some vehicles are very competitive, and the new 10e Space Codex’s Ironstorm Spearhead detachment is great for vehicles.
Buy the Space Marines you like and have fun!

yes i got SM on the side as i picked them up in the different boxes with other armies.
they are some of the easy models to put together also and tend to be easy to paint compared to other armies, so good for beginners.
as for chapters i foresee that when the divergent chapters get their own codex they will be split away from the codex compliant chapters or they will simply get to many options and will be hard to balance, as we are already starting to see with a few of the divergent chapters that are really strong when you combine their special units with the compliant detachments.

Slightly off topic - but you mention being careful about collecting too many bolters:
I'd be curious to see a video on the Anvil Siege Force's +1 to wound and how that might be used to leverage lower strength/higher volume heavy weaponry to punch up against higher toughness targets, along with how that extra flexibility might affect unit selection/collection.

Unfortunately your results will depend on if your opponent lets you shoot them at that point. Since you have to not move, I know in my movement phase exactly where you can and can't shoot. Meaning I can give you either no targets or no good targets for those +1 to wound bolters. I would say build your army around the power that the enhancements and stratagems give while treating the +1 to hit/+1 to wound as a cherry on top that occasionally happens. This way your force ends up balanced and able to score with the occasional power boost as opposed to trying to take advantage of it and never moving to score.

The new Horus Heresy battle force box could also be a good pick up. 30 marines and a Land Raider, idk how useful the Deredeo would be for 40k though. I like the idea of using firstborn marines as sargeants in primaris squads, and the new HH marines work well because they are appropriately scaled.
I'm thinking of getting it for my new Deathwatch army.

My tips for starting a Space Marines army?
Split the cost of a Deluxe Starter Set with a friend that want to play Tyranids.
Then expand the army with the Codex, and read it through, and see what the various units do, before making any more purchases.
But you can't go wrong with Intercessors (of all now four varieties), Hellblasters, Gladiators built as either Valiants or Lancers, Redemptor Dreadnoughts, Bladeguard Veterans, Impulsors, and Sternguard Veterans. And if you want a really big tank for your army; a Repulsor.

I went to a warhammer retailer store in Mexico (where I live), I had a box of primaris intersessors in my hand because I liked how they looked. After asking the employee if intersessors was a good unit to start my collection, he gave me a reiver squad instead. Did not like them that much, but I accepted since he was the expert. Later on, I realized that Reivers were the weakest of the space marines...
Anyways, after that first box (and some research) I bought a box of intersessors, hellblasters squad and a brutalis dreadnugh. I have not played 40k since I am still building and painting, but I have been playing kill team with my reiver squad and I loved it.

Hmm, you know, I've discovered that Black Templars make for a very powerful shooting army with the Firestorm Assault Force. Impulsors filled with hellblasters or sternguard veterans, 2 storm bolters, multi-melta and bellicatus missile array is quite punchy, and their BT Gladiator Lancers (correct me if I'm wrong) still get full re-rolls with all it's weapons because it's a seperate data card to the "vanilla" Lancer and I'm pretty sure they didn't FAQ this...+1 strength within 12" and the assault keyword on all guns makes a mechanised BT army just as, if not more powerful than any other chapter right now, and they have really good melee power on top of that. MVP chapter? I think so...Also, can someone enlighten me about transports and hazardous weapons...Does the unit inside suffer the mortal wounds, or is it the transport due to the rules stating that any weapons fired by embarked infantry count as the tank's weapons.

I want to play as the Charcharadons but they're not a playable faction, so I was gonna use the Space Wolf rules and sharkify my space marines. Going to try a mix of making the characters of the space wolves more sharky, and using good substitutes for some units that I want that are shark themed already. This video was helpful, but I cannot pay GW prices lol, I'm gonna be kitbashing and printing out the ass for these minis

You'll notice the older first born kits have stranger proportions to them and are smaller, the whole Primaris vs. First Born thing no longer exists in game but its best to get the newer kits later than jump for the older ones now (unless you like them). For example, Terminators and Sternguard were a First Born unit, now they are treated as either but are larger and the Sternguard are wearing Mk10 armor Primaris wear.

  • @Baconlazer
    @Baconlazer 9 месяцев назад +2

No mentions of Black Templars Combat Patrol? As a BT player I feel it is an excellent box set to start with or to add more to your army, 10 Crusaders you can never say you have enough, Marshall is pretty good, 5 Intercessors is good for it's value and an Impulsor is a good own for 1 or maybe 2 for delivery or shooting shenanigans. But the added Upgrade sprue is where it's really at, as it's basically given for free while still getting units at a discount.

    • @tonybayer2546
      @tonybayer2546 9 месяцев назад +1

It's a good combat patrol but only if you plan on playing Black Templars, the other Space Marine combat patrols consist entirely of generic units so there's more freedom in which chapter you choose.

An Alternative starting army I am getting and its reasonably decent:
    2 redemptors
    1 Ballistus
    10 Terminators
    1 Terminator librarian w/fire discipline
    2 Squads of 5 Intercessors
    2 Inceptor squads
    1 Repulsor Executioner
    1 Tech Marine
And I personally finish it with 6 blade guard led by a chaplain (could also do 6 aggressors led by biologis or even 10 jump marines lead by a jump captain)
    You need:
    2 DA combat patrols
    1 Leviathan Marines half
    1 Tech Marine
    1 Repulsor Executioner
    1 Additional box of terminators
Then whatever your bottom choice was
    Spare:
    5 sternguard
10 Infernus - great to practice painting on
1 maybe 2 spare chaplains (you can definitely sell 1)
Lieutenant with combi weapon (who seems pretty good)
Biologis (if you dont use him with aggressors, that really is a quite good combo rn)

I wouldn't recommend the official 40k app to anyone at this point, especially for space marines. Unless you like only having 1 list and NOT being able to see the datasheets. It'll cost some $6USD a month to build lists and $60USD to unlock the datasheets for JUST space marines. You pirate that shit, there is no other choice sadly. It's bad enough their minis are as expensive as they are, do not under any circumstances give them money for rules books that are outdated before they even hit shelves. Also relatively inexpensive means you will be spending over $500 possibly even $600 for your first full 2000pt Marine army even if you go budget on paint supplies so be mindful of that if you're looking to go whole hog. Just pace yourself and have fun.

I’m thinking about making a primaris gunslinger successor chapter. It’s either gonna be sons of Dorn or sons of Corvus Corax
They’re apothecaries are there best and they have more apothecaries than most chapters. They have a big affinity for pistols and handheld guns. They have a very elite defensive battle style. They’re like space marine gunslinger doctors. They have some of the most accurate marksman in the universe’s space marine’s given there ability to be the most reliable doctors and apothecaries who do a lot of work with the sisters on relief campaigns. Serving as there guardians. They’ve been responsible for keeping many chapters alive no matter the primarch they hail from.
Help me make a list and a name RUclips. I need ideas for anyone who’s made it this far.

No secret that 10th being mainly shooting and tanks, be ready to spend some $$$ on your Redemptor Dreadnoughts, Gladiator Lancers, Repulsor/Repulsor Executioner.

You can exploit the system in 10th. You can be almost any chapter, anytime you want. Let ChatGPT write your lore and give you color schemes. It's an exciting time to play 40k.
