It's a big brain move but I absolutely 100% do not understand the hype at all. Gulliman is a fool aswell. (Along with the majority of the primarchs 😂)
I got to 2k with a Leviathan set, a Scions of Macragge box set from my FLGS and a Repulsor. Should be good enough to learn with until I decide a direction.
Oh nice! What a start that is! We would have looked to use the contents of Leviathan for this if it was a limited stock release
Hmmm, i was wanting to start my first army as ultramarines with the leviathan box too. Might be too common? Smh guess I’ll do something similar to how you did. My plan was to build up the nids for a second army and also to try and draw people into the game. Friends, family etc

Bladeguard in Blood Angels or Dark Angels is straight up something I've been considering... a few years from now. Right now I have enough on my plate with K-sons and World Eaters. Great video, lads!

Ultramarines are the epitome of "OK" it's like the Vanilla of Legions, some people it's all they want and others they want more FLAVA!

Totally agree! Give us my flavour. Looking at some other comments it'd be nice for some specific Ultramarines units with their traditional Roman aesthetic.
@@the_kieran_show Very fair, Dark Angels have Deathwing Termis and Ravenwing units, Black Templar have crusade squads and can use scouts differently, lots of different models with different uses.
Ultras (the poster bois) don't have special units, just some character models, and seem even less special now the Lions turned up and they're not the only Legion with a Primarch
The anti-grav tanks fit quite well with the more modern primaris marines imo. At first, they were a bit of a shock, but I have grown to like them. And I prefer vehicles with bases over those that scrape across the table on their tracks or wheels.
Also, I see that I should have made the Huey, Dewey, and Louie joke regarding the dreadnoughts on this video rather than on the generic Space Marine one. :P

Happy New Year! This was an interesting video. Though. . . I disagree with some of your takes here. First, I don't mind Ultramarines, theyre not my favorites, I agree that theres more interesting First Founding chapters out there. But I don't think they're the worst of them either. They sit comfortably in the middle as alot of "poster children" usually do.
Also, I really like the newer sleeker Grav-Tanks. I'm saying this as someone who only *really* started 40K with 10th Edition. But I just don't get they hype around the really any of the older Space Marine models. But for the Grav-Tanks, they offer something that feels more slick, more modern, and, for lack of a better term more "sci-fi". Which I like. Now don't get me wrong, I kinda like the Land Raider, despite its age and the somewhat boxy design. But even you called the Rhino a "shoebox with treads", and I'm just not here for that.
One final point I'd like to make, in "Final Thoughts" you mentioned you expected Emperors Children as the "Redacted" codex for the upcoming Summer. However, I heavily disagree. I too want it to be EC, but Summer 2024 will be when Age of Sigmar 4th Edition launches. GW won't release a brand new "Space Marine" army around the same time as the new edition of one of their games. July was bereft of any big AoS releases in order to not comlete for attention with the launch of 40K 10th edition and Leviathan. I'm personally expecting that EC will be released at the end of 2024 to early 2025 as GW's standard big holiday release.

The hype with the older tanks is more a nostalgic thing really, like take the Land Raider, I had one when I was about 12 and it was the coolest thing ever to me! Same with the predator really.
Its a good point about the the Sigmar release, however GW did release the heavily awaited Seraphon refresh for AOS shortly before 10th ed of 40k, so its not out of character for them to back to back massive releases!
@@the_kieran_show That's a fair point about the tanks, sometimes you just like a thing because you associate it with nostalgic memories.
And for the AoS release window, you are correct, there was a large update/expansion for Seraphon leading up to Leviathan. Those models went up for pre-order on 5/27/2023. Which I'll give you was only 2-weeks away from Leviathan's pre-order date of 6/10/2023. I thought Leviathan launched in July, just like Dominion, the launch set for AoS 3rd edition. So with that in being said, it''s not quite as far out of the realm of possibility as I'd initially believed. . . But, knowing how long GW took between announcing the World Eaters codex and revealing the models for it. I still expect EC to come later than the Summer. With GW's track record of building hype, it's hard for me to believe that they'd just drop what is essentially a new faction into the world before the Edition they launch in is even a full year old. With less than 6 months between their next big reveal stream and June/July. I hope that clarifies things a bit more. Or at least is more salient of an argument.
And if I'm proven wrong, I'll *gladly* eat my words with a big slice of Humble Pie. I'll enjoy *every bite* knowing that EC range is in the pipeline and coming out sooner than I'd expected.

Ultramarines are not the worst. GW at least could be bothered to give them the Roman theme... Imperial Fists are so bland that even their successors got more character than the originals... :P
This reminds me I have to still paint my first Ultramarine.. there is a dead lieutenant on some base and I have a hard time picking any other theme for him... MARCH ON MACRAGGE!... or something like that...
30k Ultramarines have more flavour I think. Why it's so suppressed in 40k I'll never know.
Imperial Fists certainly need more love, some 40k Breachers would be sweet!
@@the_kieran_show Yeah, but 30k has currently overall more flavour. The primaris range has cut down on too much. You see it with the new 'Deathwing' bits for the terminators.
I really would wish the the new Dark Angels Companions would be the standard for chapter units and each of the legions would get at least one such unit for them and the successors. The upgrade bits should be just to get intersessors and your average marine dressed up, not to represent key units specific to chapters. Decals are fine, but it should be modeled detail.
2k list costs anywhere from 2 Leviathan boxes+vehicle, up to infinity.
If leviathan wasn’t a limited release we would have definitely used that!

It continues to baffle me why people think Ultramarines are the most boring chapter/legion when Imperial Fists exist: a legion so devoid of any meaningful flavor that it needed not one, but two prominently featured successor chapters to be made even remotely interesting by proxy...

I really do need to paint up my very old Space Marine Megaforce...I ended up collecting Space Wolves instead....I think my Space Marines need to be my own vampire style chapter since Vampires and Wolves are the coolest.

Are there actually people who go out and buy a 2000 point army all at once, brand new? It seems like a more realistic version of this is $160 for a Combat Patrol box, then if you're new to the hobby $60-75 on paints, $15-50 on paintbrushes and tools, then once you've finished building and painting your Combat Patrol and played a game or two, $30-230 every few weeks/months for the next few years as you add a character here, or a Christmas box set there until the next thing you know you've got 4000 points of the army and 500 points each of 4 other armies that looked cool.
Some people do buy it in one go, especially people just wanting to batch paint and play games as fast as possible and sometimes people who have many armies already so they know they will just get to it whenever.
Yeah totally don't take this is as a one basket shot. This is more just what you could spend on the army as a whole in whatever time frame works for you :)
I typically buy an entire army in one go and then build and paint over six months
Gotta give a shoutout to Right Kieran for appreciating some of the little things about Ultramarines. I collect BT, but over the last 25 years I've gone from loving -> hating -> accepting and liking the boys in blue.
