It's like "adjust the brightness so the darkest shape on the screen is barely visible" from videogames, but for audio. Gotta try this trick, altough obviously it doesn't account for the things you want to sound "creatively" wrong in your rough mix. I'm all for creative wrongness really(that's why all my mixes sound rough).
that`s pretty genius! I use Eq`s from TDR bundle, they have the option of using pink noise as a reference, but they don`t do balancing faders on each track, so that`s a great addition. Thanks for sharing
This may be more useful for setting clip gain with faders at unity, as it works get you reasonable levels but allow much higher fader resolution for actual mixing. I'm still on the fence as to the usefulness of this as opposed to what I normally do, but at the same time, I have to say it works pretty well for a quick rough mix depending on the ears
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper I think I read discussion somewhere that pink noise works better for balancing electronic music rather than rock/metal but it`s still great start, I think
With some creative routing of the pink noise and the mix bus to Voxengo SPAN, you can mix it visually without having to listen to the noise. The pink noise shows up in one colour and the mix bus in another making it easy to match. I'd also suggest that pink noise it not a great target for mixing, the slope is only around 3dB which is very light on bass and high on treble for a modern mix, adding a tilt EQ and bringing it up nearer 4.3 - 4.5 would be closer to the target I think. Even closer would be to route the pink noise through iZotope tonal balance control, then EQ the pink noise to fit the curve you want ('Modern' is close to 4.5). I have a track template, and a project template that uses an EQ shaped pink noise if anyone wants a copy to play with. Let me know and I'll put it on Dropbox for download.
@@dsomerville5293 well, I've replied twice and RUclips has removed both comments :( I'm really not sure why, but possibly YT thinks I'm spamming because there was a dropbox link in my reply. If it did, then it's also possible that it's sitting in the channel owner's review queue in RUclips Studio waiting for approval. Myk - is this something that you can check, please?
good point. I can tell you it was nowhere near balanced and many channels were clipping, but that explanation is a far cry from an audible demonstration.
oddly enough, the noise didn't come out right in the video. Not sure if it was the OBS capture or my render settings when exporting the video. Its much more bearable in person
yeah, that noise is definitely annoying. Maybe this should be a "what not to do" video. It was a fun experiment but definitely not something i plan to implement long term.
I believe so, since you'll need enough headroom for mixing. The cumulative effect will lead to clipping. In retrospect, I feel I should have maybe tried using the for gain staging and setting item gain then using the faders for proper mixing. That would have allowed for higher fader resolution by keeping them closer to unity . This was more of an experiment for me as opposed to "this is the way."
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper you know? it worked well for me. For real, from the start. I think it's a nice tool to use when you need something different. Thanks.
I don't really have a good answer for this. I had only done it a few times to practice before making the video, as the concept is new to me. I don't feel it's something I would use regularly, but though it might be a neat "trick" to share.
Bringing the noise in a way Chuck and Flav never imagined! Great as always Myk
Bass,, how low can you go 😈
Man Terminator X is a dope producer. Sampling Slayer in '88
Posse in effect, got Falva, TERMINATOR!
So THAT'S why pink is on the thumbnail :D
off topic, but i gotta work on my OBS settings. The pink noise was WAY more annoying on the video as opposed to how it sounded through my monitors...

that's a great analogy, actually.

It's being removed automatically, I'm afraid. Can you send me the link on Discord and I can post it
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper Thanks Myk, I will do. Cheers.
Let's see if this stays.

Pro tip: Throw the pink noise generator on the Monitor FX
Would've been nice to hear the project before you balanced it, just to give us something to compare the end result to. Interesting concept though!

Damn i didn't skip it for about 6-7 mins. I got pink noise in my ear now lol

Thanks for the video, but It's also a great and easy way to be deaf.

when there are more instruments i should put a lower level for the pink noise?

how much practice do you need for this? it feels somewhat arbitrary to get it right

that's a neat trick, but it hurts my ears lol
