It's funny that Tenpai is also a blind second strategy that can for some reason go first because Seals Pass backed by 4 hand traps is the most powerful endboard of all time Ancient Gear has room for maybe half of that amount of non-engine, and Howitzer pass uh, doesn't have quite the same amount of bite The deck does have several of the same tools that Tenpai does. one card combos into lethal. a card that similarly turns off interaction like sangen summoning, but less room for hand traps and a complete inability to go first means that no one would willingly pick this over tenpai unless they fucking love ancient gear

Same case here I just revived my 2017 ancient gear deck with the new support and no matter what people say I am content going second in a match or going first and playing with duel to summon an unaffected by monster 4,4k beater
The fact that he’s not using fortress on field in this combo says it all. Spell speed 4 effect and targeting/destruction protection is all you need to blast out a 4400/4400 death machine.

It is still a pure AG deck (ignoring the 2 regulus and 1 anchor drill). And the slots to enable this going 1. board are just: Nr 90, Apo and Sargas. My extradeck is: Nr 90, Sargas, Apo, Gear Giant X, Plat. Gadget, Ironwolf, Bagooska. (These are tools to extend your plays and set up going 1. plays). Two AG Howitzer, Two AG Ballista, Two Chaotic AG Giant, Megaton AGG, Ultimate AGG (This is my going 2nd toolkit) The win condition is still pure Ancient Gear. This line is only meant to get you to survive a Turn 1.
You can kinda start cutting the bricks when Statue and Dragon come out. Commander is the only remaining reason you are on OG Golem, so if you get enough names that do something, you can just kick both of them out. It has a pretty decent mu into Tenpai itself, but yeah it's definitely worse.
Honestly Dark Golem turning on ancient gear fusion while being summonable outside of catapult seems really nice. It's no meta contender but not everything can be. Plus you'll regret making me go first when you face side deck Messenger of Peace Howitzer Stun! /j
The strategy forgot that you need to discard for the Dark Golem ability. As that is the "down side". In reality it's an upside as you use it to send the Commander you got into the graveyard. Then based on what else you have in hand, tutor (aka find the card in your deck for non mtg players) for the new trap they got, banish commander to get it faceup.That gives some protection and works as a fusion summon going second. Fusion for Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem, having 3 attacks at 4400 and monster effects can't target it along with the gear staple ability of spells and traps can't activate in the battle phase. It's strong when it's simple. Variables affect how you play ancient gear. Don't go based on 1.5 or 2 card combos. Go with what's in the hand. You'll get a big beat stick no matter what.
As a player of this archetype, these new cards are godsend. But Issue with Ancient Gear is they need negations & Main Phase protection. They are similar to Infinitracks & Machina: fast OTK potential asap. Entirely rogue & meant for pure aggression before things get hectic. But Ancient Gear also relies on Normal a summons and its main monster Golem cannot be Special Summoned (except by some ignoring condition effects). But its definitely an aggressive Rogue deck & deadly in the right hands. Maybe give it some exclusive hand traps & counter traps for them?...
Howitzer is a good card, though. Ballista is fine, it's mainly just hindered by the deck itself not being more than a fun locals deck, in Superheavy Samurai it was able to do stuff. Honestly, it needs the Cyberdark treatment where the deck gets the ability to search Power Bond pretty easily to bring out the big fusions.

Plus youre taking that monsters original attack with PO. Duel lets you summon on their turn, swing three times & no lp loss & they cant use monster effects lol

Like, I don't believe that what you just described will be a meta pick, so it'll be a locals thing or a rogue deck. I'm just saying, I'd rather have it so that I can bring out a 9k beater every time I go second than spam out a few 3k beaters, mostly because I feel like I can already do that with a lot of decks
Combine the 2 into 1 card but improve the effects (make the damage buff ignore chaos giant and Howitzer immunity), and maybe give it a special summon monster from gy effect once it leaves the field.
Just to make anyone who wants to play ancient gears aware, tankers effect only specials from the graveyard if your opponent controls a monster, this line doesnt work going first, although if going first you can usually end on bagooska giant pass as the deck doesnt really lock you into anything unless you destroy your own ancient gear fortress and use its effects. hope this helps players
They had a chance to make them a Synchro subarchtype with the Arc-V Synchro Arc due to the villain being a spy from the Fusion dimension but they didn't. Would it be good? Probably not but it would have been VERY fun to see more archtypes getting different summoning styles from their OG versions
We got the Structure in 2021 which admittedly was based on making the Cyberdarks Meta. I think we'll see more Cydra stuff in the next year or so seeing that it is a popular strategy and Konami likes Light+Dark fusion decks
@@Heroism4499 yah and they gave the hero's a structure deck but then realized they could rip more money out of our pockets by making overpriced support that barely does anything. Although I will say cyber dragon and ancient gears on release haven't picked the pocket to deep.
They should give them a way to punish removal so they can build the same sort of board but not immediately die. Something like the hours engine or how destruction affects unchained.

It helps if you add in cards like Infinitrack Anchor Drill, Therion “King” Regulus, Magical Hound as well as Dingirsu, AA-ZEUS and Gigantic “Champion” Sargas… but unfortunately these additions only carry it so far, even if you were to also add Super Express Bullet Train and Urgent Schedule.
Go into the 3300 instead, floats into 4400 and make sure the continuous that stops oponwnt from responding hits the field. Use commander as dump for a free trap activation like the one that makes your monsters immune to monster effects. For extra burn potential the level 5 can banish from GY to negate a monster effect. Use it well and hit your opponent with that 9k+ OTK😂
the deck can summon the big guys pretty easily and consistently. i think this new trap got overlooked here, it offers gud protection and can be activated first turn plus it buffs your fusion letting ultimate golem hit just as hard as chaos. i love this new support, it may not bring the archetype to meta relevance but dat shouldnt be the end all be all when talking about an archtype.
If they could create a retrain that considers itself Ancient Gear Golem at all times, like the Harpies, that doesn't the summoning restriction. Ancient Gears would improve drastically.
I find it so weird how theres 2 blind 2nd archetypes in this set and one is tenpai which is perfectly made to solve all the problems a going second deck has and the other is ancient gear which is extremely clunky despite already having a lot of cards
I dont really like the notion of legacy support existing to solely make a deck break into the meta, ancient gears support waves (excluding dragon) have all been hand crafted to support the big damage otk style its meant to play, the new support addressed so many of the decks flaws and it is now a very competent go 2nd deck which is what the deck is meant to do, going 1st was never what was intended for them to do. Also the argument that they die to interruption may be true, but thats under the assumption that you drew 0 go 2nd cards in your go 2nd deck. Also fortress is a searchable turn every effect into spell speed 4 and nobody ever mentions that they have that when discussing their interruptibility.
Have a error, when dark golem gets box, the same effect of DGolem requires send a Card from the hand to GV, so, if u don't have another card to be sended GV, the effect of box don't happen
Take it as an engine and not a pure archetypal deck, and it has potential. Splash some generic 4 xyz's and an omni or two and you should be good. The potential of the deck to play MST as an engine piece AND AG Catapult, plus the optional Foolish goods for Catapult's second effect, makes for a perfect choice to play 3x Skill drain and 3x Powersink, going first. Add heat wave to the mix, and going first is not an issue. You just don't have 23 slots for handtraps and board breakers.
If you can get Fortress off, it's really good at insulating plays. Honestly most times you don't need to combo off with AGs. That's not their thing. They are the "big guy hits very hard" deck. I still use Power Bond and paired with Fortress it's incredible how little decks can do against am amp'd up Chaos Giant.
Tanker pop commander, commander banish for duel? Duel makes ultimate with 5k swing three times? I know you spent a miniute looking through it but I’m surprised you didn’t go that route all under fortress

Theirs a point where they can only make so much support before the whole thing “caves in” gears were ok in the day at big beaters but just hardstuck at that 💩lvl tier today
hmm, i wonder if there's a piece of legacy support that was laughed off by the hyenas of the community (EM players) that synergizes with the new support and could help ancient gears going first. it's just a shame that nothing could ever come from this line of thought.
Curious to see the design philosophy of going 2nd decks after Tenpai. We had a lot of Big Guy OTKs but Tenpai feels SO pushed everything else with this playstyle feels... Ancient.
Ong the best thing this deck can do going 1st is Howitzer pass or putting down Geartown or Fortress and hoping your opponent doesn't read the float effect.

well Commander also lets you set Duel (or any other AG continuous trap) face-up if it's in the GY, so it's not entirely useless

You do know the deck literally lets you go uninterrupted off of 1 card? Duel & fortress, youre done. Full combo. Lol

Ag howitzer is decent stall card for burn if stuck going first. Not best but its 2 bodies
If you want to experience that, you can fetch random machine tuners with Urgent Schedule. There is a good variety to choose from.

AG statue is amazing and is a great buff in addition to dragon. Being able to tag out to any AG mech is lit

i recommend trying ancient gear superheavy, it makes it way more consistent + gives it some (not great) options going 1st

It's so sad because it's aesthetically one of my favorite archetypes. I'm sure there's way to make them much better.

hmm, i wonder if there's a piece of legacy support that was laughed off by the hyenas of the community (EM players) that synergizes with the new support and could help ancient gears going first. it's just a shame that nothing could ever come from this line of thought.
Curious to see the design philosophy of going 2nd decks after Tenpai. We had a lot of Big Guy OTKs but Tenpai feels SO pushed everything else with this playstyle feels... Ancient.

I tried to make ultimate ancient gear golemn fusion to deck good but battling consistency issues it's just a blind otk deck for lols
Ong the best thing this deck can do going 1st is Howitzer pass or putting down Geartown or Fortress and hoping your opponent doesn't read the float effect.
