@@Twiggy10 i now there are options to counter it my cat brother/Sister but, i don't want to use a card that i would never use just to counter a nother card that i would never use (i have problems)
I love how mega knight was made to be a counter to the elite barbarians, yet as time went on, people just made decks that combined both atrocities to ruin the entire game. I still see it to this day
Overeleveling makes cards like Witch, Wizard, Mega Knight so hated. SC could have level-capped card levels to King Level since 2016, but that goes against their monetization policy.
Yeah i also thought the level cap thing but they never did ehh They should make the late game more competitive than midladder, which is a suffering stage.
Honestly, overleveling wasn't that big of a problem until the magic item update. Before that, I never really had a card more than 1 level higher or lower than my king tower due to trade tokens or donations, and I had enough excess gold that I upgraded other cards to get xp. Now with magic items it's so easy to get 1 card to a big level and there's not enough gold to spend upgrading anything else so there's so many level 10 players with level 14 cards that it's unbearable. Honestly, it made me quit the game cause I couldn't take it.
It was probably me, he was my oh shit card on my hog rider deck so I usually defended w him and fire cracker then used what remained of the mk to push with hog rider, so usually he would jump on the building taking a hige chunk while tanking the tower for the hog
I still remember beating the 12 win challenge to unlock the megaknight and my friends were crazy about it ... Getting a legendary doesn't feel the same anymore
As someone who constantly plays 2v2, I always see many megaknight teammates sitting on full elixir to wait for an opponent card so they can use the megaknight spawn. So not only megaknight is an annoying card to face but also it encourages bad play for players who rely on it. That's my biggest gripe.
Yup. I use to play megaknight at the back to build a push when elixir was abundant but I stopped since waiting for an enemy cluster of troops to stomp is more efficient.
It would be funny if they added an interaction where if two MKs jumped at each-other, they would just chest bump and proceed to ignore each-other from that point on. Wouldn’t do much just aside from being a tad goofy to see
megaknight is the ultimate crutch card easy to use and gives great results on defense, pretty naff on offense, and not all that viable in high level play
@@erfanwardana9769 Yeah, it’s a defensive card that dominates mid ladder and just gets you punished at higher play for how easy it is to counter for a positive elixir trade.
@@erfanwardana9769there's dozens of people that reach ultimate champion with megaknight and even people in the top 1k that use him so what are you smoking
@@erfanwardana9769 The card still has some use in mega knight wall breakers (particularly the firecracker versions). You have to play very carefully with the mega knight, only dropping him as a punish play. I still see plenty of mega knight decks in ult league, so I'd say the card is still viable in some niche instances, even if it isn't good as a whole (although I do agree it could use a slight buff on offense to improve it's counterpush potential.)
I think a huge issue why MK is considered overpowered is that, even though it can be easy to counter him in defense, the countering process relies heavily on the princess towers. Yes, you could theoretically play any mini-tank in your half and melt the MK for 2-4 elixir, but that is where the pay to win factor plays it's role. The big issue is that most players in midladder have way higher card levels than tower levels. If the MK is level 14, but your princess towers are level 11, you can play as many tanks as you want, it might take the entire 6 minutes of the match to get the MK killed. In itself, the MK really is balanced. Maybe not in low-midladder, but as soon as the players start gaining game sense, it's fairly easy to deal with it in theory. The big issue, as always with Supercell, is the pay to win
The same applies to hog. You may know how to counter it when you're equal level, effectively standardizing the interaction, but it becomes significantly more difficult when interactions that are normally hard-counters just don't, because "muh 4 levels overleveled cards, has 1,000 hp more than usual and 10x the damage output". Especially if said counters are really level-dependent (something Gob Cage suffers from in Hog interactions).
I love the card cause I ran a no spell deck. It was my splash dmg card that and dark prince. They decks entire point was putting constant big dmg pressure on the towers and I’d often only play MK when they got a counter push goin to catch ‘em off guard
One thing he doesn't mention: Decks designed to counter Mega Knight. I remember back when it was added, 6-7 out of 10 games, you either faced the MK, or faced a counter MK deck. Frustrating times.
@@BudzNBoose At the level that I am on my new account(4600), it's still kind of true tbh. At least one in every four opponents has the megaknight, and so people need to have a card that's decent against it(not necessarily the peeka, I currently use the zappy which isn't ideal but it's fine).
I hover in the 5700 trophy range, and Mega Knight used to be an absolute menace in this range. It's faded a bit recently, but a few months ago there were days at a time I would go without facing a single deck that didn't have a Mega Knight. It was horrendous.
I think the range of mega knight players have go down to the 4k - early 5k trophy tbh. I quit the game a few months back facing MK every game, now I came back and haven't met anyone using him in 20 matches straight
I think the biggest reason it's so hated is because of how easy it can counter. I remember before this card, there were a bunch of different strategies to win (mostly ground level) such as xbow, hog rider, etc. Then this card came and basically made 90% of those methods worthless. Everyone had to switch gears because of this card. MK was really impactful in the competive scene, but in a *really* bad way.
never understood why the fuck a tank card has splash damage, spawn damage, and jump damage next thing you know they'll make him throw his metal gloves to hit air troops
Mega knight isn't hated because it has no counter...it's hated cause it counters like 50 cards and promotes chipping with another troop and just defending with mega knight. You know what's infuriating, not being to play like 100 decks because a single commonly used card completely counters them... hog rider is busted overpowered, but at least it doesn't directly counter 50 cards☠️
Honestly like all the legendary cards it should cost 1+. If you think about that any legendary card have a strategic advantage over the other cards, like for the mega knight it's not just his massive hp, but the area dmg and the jump, the Electric wizard can reset everything and stop it for a second. The worst designed legendary card for me is that broken thing that only costs 6 elixir and basically 1 shots every grounded thing.
Mega knight is balanced, but only in a state when you’re equally levelled with it, my alt is currently at 5500 and nearly 90% of games I play on there contain an obnoxiously overleveled mega knight who just spawns on your push, killing all your cards due to its high level, then pair it with something like zap to counter inferno tower and it becomes an absolute nuisance to defend, requiring much more than 7 elixir to defend without taking much damage
That -43% HP nerf at 17:34 makes this mega knight not mega anymore, because that is a similar scale of HP as a REGULAR Knight or Valkyrie level now. This just takes off the concept of what mega knight existed
The problem comes from the mega knight usually always being insanely high leveled. Of course there are good counters, such as a knight for example, but if the knight is slightly underleveled then you have to aid it with additional elixer which can often be the losing factor
The funny part is that MK isn't a wincon but he's designed to soak hits so you can sneak in a win con like battle ram 😉 I would know bc I play MK and just maxed him today 😅
Yeah and with the extra added new level 15 and the free pass being insanely nerfed it's almost impossible to progress as a f2p player. Megaknight is easy to counter in fact I just beat a kid with level 15 megaknight when my highest level card was a level 13 mortar. I think it's honestly not even that good of a card in general. Something like evo firecracker deserves to be complained about but it's balanced. It's only hated cause you said it's usually extremely overleveled because the players that use it are just pay 2 win
I've always felt that Mega Knight is the most powerful over-leveled card in the game. 1 level difference greatly affects how much elixir you need to spend in most interactions to deal with this card.
@@usuarioanonimo2114 Yeah, but it really depends. With Knight for instance it really hurts to have him when any card with Goblins is 1 level above since he can't one-tap them. The thing is with Mega Knight, his stats are high because he's a 7-elixir card which means his health, damage and jump damage kind of skyrockets. He's fair when you learn the interactions of how to counter him at tournament standard but that all goes down the drain when over-leveled because you now have to maybe cycle one more card or spend a few more elixir to distract him. And yeah, E-Giant is kinda like that too for the same high-cost, stats scaling reasons.
Well it's because leveling up increase your card stats by 10%, and high cost card is well a heavy unit so they have outstanding stats. Basically every tanky is op when overleveled, but MK is splash so it can't be countered by swarm well, it need to go againts single target unit but since he's overleveled, he'd rekt that interaction. Same goes with e giant that can't be countered by swarm
Competitive players love spamming spells, any card weak to them will either be useless or too op/annoying in some bait deck. Splashnado is very popular strat on top, midladder rarely faces nado. That also changes meta alot.
This card was literally the reason I quit the game back when it was released. I was f2p so I would constantly play against legendary cards I didn't have and cards that are way higher leveled than mine with occasional delays when deploying cards (so the game was already mildy frustrating to play) but the Mega Knight was the last straw because it just felt impossible to counter with my lower leveled cards and with it's stupidly overloaded kit and stats.
Same. I perfectly defend against his attack and build up a counter attack army, then boom, he drop 1 mega Knight and solve everything, he just stop my counter attack and have a tank to build a counter - counter attack 🙂
My problem was always how Mega Knight contradicts the rock paper scissors of the game. AoE beats swarm, which beats tank killer, where the last two beat tanks, where the last two beat AoE. Mega Knight is both a tank AND AoE, meaning they can place an Inferno Dragon or Prince to cover the Mega Knight's tank killer weakness
I just got into clash royale, 2 months ago. I'm still learning the game, basics, elixir economy, counters, etc... I've spent about 20$ on the game, just to acquire heroes, legendaries, and an evo or two. Thus far, my thought process is the exact same as yours was 5 months ago. Mega-Knight isn't "broken" per se, but it is overpowered in the sense that it's just as tanky as a P.E.K.K.A while being capable AoE upon playing it, as well as cleave when it's already in play. Like you said, the game operates on a "rock, paper, scissors" model. Swarm beats tank, tank beats dps, AoE beats swarm. Yet this card does it all. Flat out, this card is stronger than most evos, without requiring a cycle. The thing is, these kids crutch on it, big time. It's the elo-hell power-card. Pretty much any deck that you make at 4000 trophies needs to include some way to deal with a Mega-Knight, and even then, once it sets it's eyes on a tower, you're too late. You just lost a tower. Just about the only counter for it is to kite it through your towers using skeletons or ice golem.
@@dollahbill510 Exactly what I say and what I will probably forever say, I don't care if I sound like a midladder noob. Once I came back to the game after a 4 year pause and saw the mega knight (stopped playing right before he was introduced), I damn near pooped my pants. After 3 years I can only say that it isn't exactly overpowered, but It's one of the most un-fun cards to play against. Whatever annoying or toxic strategy I see in the game, I think to myself "at least he has no mega knight" every time. Seems like I'll never get over it, and it goes without saying that I really supported the last nerf he's gotten and I still do.
@@kiki88561 On my recently created account, I spent my whole time since like 3000 trophies being very annoyed at all of the over-leveled witches. When I saw that the next arena(don't remember which) unlocked the mega knight, I was like: ''well that sucks, but at least that might mean I have to deal with witches less often''. It hasn't really felt like that's the case. Instead, the same people who use an over-leveled witch now also use an over-leveled mega knight:(
Easy use two fingers just quickly put knight on megaknight and put skeleton army on the pekka It just like countering darkprince-prince combo This is what most highladder do
I as a low level player encounter really often opponents with Megaknghts at lvl 15. For me it's like a Pekka that does splash damage, can jump, has spawn damage AND has the healthpoints of a Golem. It's ridiculous in the river race. I have to always use an Infernodragon, Infernotower AND Sparky.
@@dilkane8531low level doesn’t exactly have the luxury of choice with war decks buddy. Wth are you even supposed to do against any card like 8 levels higher than yours?
Even till this day the card is very annoying. You either have to carry high dps troop/building, or use many cycle cards to counter it, which puts you at a negative elixir trade
+1 mega knight is uncommon because +2 mega knight is more common and to defend it you have to spend more than 7 elixir every time not to mention mega knight nearly always crushes any push and attacks you when your at low elixir
A mini pakka of same level can counter it for a positive elixir trade . A knight or valk can do the job too .inferno drag , inferno tower , pekka , a charged prince , minions , hidden Tesla or a MK itself. all are very good counter to the MK . + MK as a 7 elixir card doesn't do that much damage either( except it's jump and spawn damage ) . if you're willing to spend 6-7 elixir then there are better options . I believe everyone has atleast one of the counter card for MK in their deck , it's not that annoying cuz it's only problem is it's spawn damage and jump damage . Other than that it's very average .
Gratz: *tries to explain why mega knight is actually balanced and only a problem in mid latter* Also Gratz: *shows a clip of a mega knight countering a mosqueter, barberian, mage, frost mage, eletric mage, witch and 2 skeletons all at once, a 24 elixir push, by himself and still getting out alive multiple times in the video*
I’ll never forget when the Mega Knight was *the* hard counter to the Elite Barbarians. He was *very crucial* in my eyes in the events of stopping them. Not anymore.
I’ve played Clash Royale on and off since launch, and dealing with overleveled Mega Knights was literally impossible. Because I stopped playing consistently, my cards are still all underleveled, but it was more egregious back then. I would face level 12/13 Mega Knights with level 10 cards, and it was just impossible to win those matchups. Especially when the entire opponent’s deck is two-three levels higher than mine.
This is what high elo players don't understand. People who play casually don't have the time or resources to level up all their cards to a usable level for their elo. Instead they level up 10-12 ish cards to a decent level provided they don't play all the time or spend money. This means, when the meta shifts, its too costly to just switch into a different deck, and so you focus on trying to brute force with levels than learning the game better. At 5000 ish , ( i tooks a 3 year break), my king tower levels are 10. But most cards levels are 12 or higher. This simply means that the towers barely chip things like meta knight so I HAVE to invest more than a usual amount of elixer to defend. Before a took a break, the level disparity was so great that my wizard could not one shot enemy minions. When people say pay 2 win, this is what they're usually talking about. Back before I took a break I had lv 9 king towers while most opponents had 11 or 12. The game felt frustrating simply because everything they had were just stronger.
@@halinaqi2194 Yeah I had to get to tower level 12 just to be able to get trough that hell, but now I have some level 12 cards so I can counter them pretty good
The thing is that it can easily be defended IF you have a counter. But there are a lot of cards that don't counter it. Most of the time you are caught off guard, that's what makes it so strong
The thing is, you can really counter it with almost any cards if you place and time them well. You can redirect it, surround it, or just kill it with a pekka or barabarians. I think the big issue people have with this card is that in return it counters almost every ground push, except pekka and the giants
The biggest problem is the overleveling of the card. Its why top ladder dont see the terror. Facing a level 13 mega knight when you have a single lv 12 in your library makes so many of the interactions a nightmare. This combined with e wiz made any counter but mega knight pretty much pointless since why wouldnt you spaen a pekka with fireball dmg to defend
Yea, they'd always be like "oh obviously you just put down a knight or bandit for a plus 4 elixir trade"! Ignoring the fact that even at equal levels, knight and bandit BARELY counter mega knight. Underleveled knight only takes half of a level 14 mega knights health, bandit takes even less
@@Caffeine_Addict_2020 people i play against on average have level 12 or 13 meka knights, where as my bandit is level 10, so my bandit barely does shit lmao
@@Caffeine_Addict_2020 ofc u need 2 years to max out a proper deck.all top ladder players have gone through that stage especially the one who were f2p. The real problem faced is basically the meta changes way too much. At the high ladder some cards are absolutely broken and at mid ladder everyone says it's ok. The balance changes should be made only according to the top ladder plus u can't complain to the slow progression as f2p. The fact that champions were fresh but they ruined the strategic element in the game.
The biggest problem with this card is that it just countered pretty much every card in the game in one way or another. Even if the win rates were balanced, everyone hated it because it took the fun out of the game.
It really did not, you could have a bit of an argument with midladder but simply put mega knight has so many counters that if you cant counter it its just a skill issue on your part
This is a complete skill issue on your part. Mega Knight in no way shape or for counters "pretty much every card in the game". If anything, pretty much every card in the game can counter it.
@@LightDarkxZ What about levels? In midladder you can go up against a level 14 megaknight with level 11 as your average card level. I'd say Supercell should add more mega knight counters that are easy to play, but don't thrive in high ladder
In my experience there’s a few things that make a card attractive to people that aren’t very good at the game (high health, splash damage, and instantaneous damage/ high one shot ability) Look at things that are objectively not very good but remain popular on ladder and you’ll find one or more of those things in basically all of them. Valk is a high health splasher with a basically instant first attack, E barbs are relatively high health and often can one or two shot things, wizard is a high damaging splasher, etc… mega knight is a very high health splasher with a lot of instant damage so it checks all the boxes. I think it will always see use because of that. And just because splash cards and cards with a lot of health make defense very easy.
It's not about mega knight being too strong. It's his rock paper scissors nature. you can either counter him with 4 elexir, or you can't. Certain decks are a free win, others are a free loss, because you don't have a mini tank.
yeah, I've been playing 2.6 hog for years now, mega knight is mid to defend against, it isn't the hardest or the easiest but depending on opponent's use, against a really good player it becomes negative elixir trade to defend it while it can still be countered in 5 elixirs with a canon and ice golem.
@@AdonisMartinez-vy4cw2.6 hog beats mega knight all day everyday bro. 2.6 can defend anything and its probably ththe most consisstently strong deck in the game.
My biggest problem with MK is not how strong it is, it's fairly balanced in the competitive scene and barely gets use in there as well, but it's the reliance of so much ladder climbers to the guy. MK's problem isn't how strong or annoying it is, it's how much people in the ladder have to rely on the fact that their enemy has or doesn't have an MK to win.
@@connorfrederixon7508 Same thing for me, yeah I started winning the games instead of losing but then I realized... the problems is no that im winning or losing, the problem is tha this mf NEVER GOES AWAY!!! You have to see him 9 out of 10 games and it gets soooo boring
Over leveled cards like mk witch and wizard are annoying to go up against simply because the fact they are better than your cards even if you have the counter
this exactly. back when i was playing around when he came out, every time you saw him he just rolled you. he was rare enough that i didnt see him every game, but he was a menace that you couldnt really fight against.
The problem with mega knight that I hate so much is if you misplay your elixir a little bit or if you use your counters before knowing they have it then it’s almost impossible to mitigate massive amounts of damage on your tower. That’s why I hate it.
@@realdomo stupidest shit i've ever heard, they're still allowed to hate it. do you cheer at gamma's funeral just because people die and that's how the world works or smth
The funny thing is, that always happens to me in the beginning of a game. I usually lose the game in the first minute. If I don't, I probably win, and I have not played against MK yet lol.
the thing is that I hate it because it's in 90 percent of the decks I run into, which forces me to to build a deck to counter it or it forces me to completely stop attacking and out everything into defending against it which always makes the games go into over time and one of them always manages to slip by and jumping onto my tower killing it
Am i missing something here? Pekka can shit on mk all by herself, im not sure why people are building decks all around defense if all they need is one card

The Mega Knight ended an era where you didn’t have to change your deck past arena 3. Strategies were a lot more diverse, the game was a lot more fun because you never knew what type of deck you were going to get.
That is just simply not true. Not changing your deck past arena 3 has always been a bad idea. The game introduces new cards to you for a reason. If something isn't working with your deck, then change it. Don't spend a month stuck in the same arena because you're too stubborn to change your deck. Half of the skill of CR is building a good deck and recognizing when it isn't working. If you can't do that, then learn to do that. Don't blame your skill issue on mk.
@@rexmayshark6212 it doesn’t even matter if you do change your deck. Your fighting too many players who have cards you shouldn’t be going up against yet. Im talking cards you don’t unlock for another 3 arenas. It shouldn’t be allowed for anyone to derank that low.
I had to build an entirely new deck to progress on ladder because I went against mega knight every single game. After months of levelling a WHOLE DECK to level 14 I was finally able to break through. Now that I'm above 6k there aren't as many mega knights. He really is a ladder gatekeeper
I remember being super frustrated with the card back a few years ago. The spawn damage is just such an irritating thing to deal with because you could have tons of cards going for a push on your opponent and then that single card would completely reverse the situation in a way that hadn’t really been the case previously they would wipe that push and then also get a very tanky card on the field for their own push. It encouraged a lot more poking with low commitment stuff. It wasn’t broken but personally if adding a card makes a significant chunk of the player base not like the game as much and get frustrated I would rather it be nerfed or heavily reworked than make a more toxic environment
The only reason everyone in midladder sees meganut as op is because when they have the lv 14 mega knight it wins every interaction that it used to lose so you always have to overcommit 💀
Are you kidding? Mega knight is like the one card that doesn't become more of a pain when he's overleveled. He still wins the same interactions, and still loses the same interactions. Everyone in midladder sees mega knight as op because his main purpose is to punish mistakes, and there's a lot of mistakes in midladder. Leveling him up doesn't make him any better, just makes him more punishing when your opponent messes up. It's not like wizard who shreds through everything or swarms who start surviving things when they get overleveled. Mega Knight's interactions barely change based on level. If your opponent messes up, he's good. If your opponent is good, he sucks. Most midladder doesn't realize this, because most midladder is bad. Everyone is constantly making mistakes, and so mega knight is constantly getting value. And because he's constantly getting value players are going to want to level him up. It goes great for them until they met the zap bait player with level 9 everything that takes 2 towers before their mega knight even touches a tower.
I think the bigger reason why Mega Knight is so good in mid ladder is because he destroys the unorganized non-meta decks mid ladder players generally use.
@@doodgoi9102 I won a mid ladder match with like 167 hp on my tower bc homie had no big spell and for whatever reason used his zap on my princess and gbarrel
I consider myself a good player and I usually take a decent amount of games off my friends who r are like 7k+. I find the game fun using more technical decks, gob drill, wb, miner Occasionally xbow. My account is v under leveled and it sucks ass losing to maxed out mega knights 5k trophies. My placement and kiting is pretty good I can activate king tower with a spirit and skeles. It's just so boring to face him game after game and u fuck up one interaction cuz u forgot your card is 2 or 3 levels below and u just get fucked. I can't climb to get aq or mighty miner cuz it's just so zzz.
@@doodgoi9102 One day I decided to play Lavaloon Barbarians, the first match I got had Firecracker, Executionner, Wizard, Rascal, Freeze, E-giant, Hog Rider and Minions.
Back when the card was still fairly new, I found out that I've been facing him so much to the point where I built a deck to SIMPLY COUNTERING THIS ONE SPECIFIC CARD. It ended up being super effective in the long run, I managed to climbed out of mid-ladder itself just because of my deck is made specifically for beating mega knight alone with nothing else in mind.
When I was playing from arena 10-15 now, I had to tailor my deck JUST to counter hogs and goblin barrells. It's just the same, they're just more popular so no one says anything.
The way I see it is whenever someone says “bro he’s not that bad just use X” but I think they forget a big part of the reason he’s a “mid ladder menace” is because we don’t even have half the cards the top ladder players do unless they already hit the top arenas. It’s best counter early is inferno tower but it isnt like that doesn’t have a dozen ways to reset or distract it’s not. Perfect response like a troop might be
The problem with the card is that there is no skill in it. When a card has insane stats and low skill, it becomes super easy to counter but super punishing if not able to counter. Its the same with E barbs, where it had high hp and high damage, speed etc, easy to counter if you have skeletons or smt but super punishing if left alone on your tower. Same for wizard as has a huge splash radius and high damage
That's like 90% of the win cons lmfao this game is basically rock paper scissors. Hog takes literally no skill to use at all yet people meat ride the mess out of that card.
Sorry but that's most win conditions. No one will ever convince me that hog, goblin barrel, 2.6 cycle decks require a high amount of skill. You literally just spam and spam and spam at the bridge or you kite with 1 elixr troops. This is why I love Mega Knight, hog users can say "hey that's low skill" while spamming hog at the bridge.
@@amj.composerfr most decks in clash don’t require skill at all especially 2.6 hog. There’s no variation in attacks it’s the same attack every time and the same defenders. I like to use mega knight + miner wall breaker + bandit cuz there’s a lot of variation
I agree that MK is probably perfectly fine to bad in a vacuum. In any testing or high ladder environment, he will seem fine because his mechanics are relatively easy to counter. Unfortunately, and the thing I think you underestimated in your analysis, most ladder players do not play under ideal circumstances and MK is probably one of, if not the best card when it comes to exploiting suboptimal circumstances. Lag, device faults (like placing a unit one tile off) are far more prevalent in mid ladder and MK, especially due to the huge difference between him jumping and walking to a target, punishes the "mistakes" that are outside of your control harder than almost any other card. So while he is simple to counter with good timing and placement, the margin for error with him is so small that his power on attack varies wildly with the circumstances that you play under. For example, a hog rider comes in and you place your barbarians on him, but they are delayed by 0.5 seconds or placed in a slightly wrong tile. The hog rider might get 1 or 2 more swings than he should. If you place your barbs on a MK, those 0.5 seconds or that 1 tile off is suddenly the difference between him being fully countered and him killing them all and taking half your tower.
Have you ever thought about making a video about when Supercell completely reworked card placements in arenas? I remember when certain cards were in lower arenas like mirror. Now it's on arena 15.
As a new player, this makes progression awful. I'm not sure if this is a skill issue or not, but it's very annoying getting countered and stormed by cards I haven't even unlocked yet or have the proper firepower to efficiently deal with.
I remember back when MK came out, he was fun to play but not necessarily broken or too overused, mainly as you pointed out because it was WAY harder maxing out legendary cards back then, I mean hell it was a challenge to even get one to begin with. So around in late 2021 I came back to the game, having lost my previous account that was decently leveled up, I started fresh, many new cards, many new features, it was basically almost a new game to me. The meta plays were WAY more different and difficult to learn and play against, and then there was the MK, stupidly versatile as a solo card and even more ridiculous to face against when over leveled and supported by an over leveled wizard or a witch. It was a NIGHTMARE in every sense of the word to get to 4k trophies, then slowly I maxed out a few decks, climbed to about 6.5k and remained there due to the gap in skill level. It was definitely an experience having to go for about a year and a half without being able to do anything against a card that was found in roughly half the decks I played against, which were basically identical: Have MK in them, some anti-air support high damage card, cycle cards and a spell.

As someone at 6000 with a level 13 mega knight seemed perfect the issue is over levelling It’s unfortunate that he’s getting the porygon treatment and being scapegoated for what is essentially a pay to win issue
@@domotron3598 So basically in the gen 1 pokemon anime episode "Electric Solider Porygon" there was a scene with a ton of flashing lights w/o warning which caused many kids across Japan to have seizures due to how popular pokemon was and still is. In the episode, Pikachu was the one who caused the flashing lights. Despite this, Porygon was and still is banned from the pokemon anime because A.This was Porygon's Debut Episode and B. Game freak wouldn't ban Pikachu from the anime because Pikachu is Pokemon's mascot and the main character's signature pokemon. If they did ban Pikachu, they would've presumably lost lots of viewers and money. TL;DR Pikachu messed up but Porygon was blamed for it causing Porygon to be banned from the pokemon anime
@@domotron3598this is a reference to the Pokémon TV series. In summary, there was an episode staring porygon during the early days of the series. When i was way younger i thought pekka was cool when i unlocked her, how she would deal a million dmg, then she ran into skarmy and i realized i gotta use more brain cells....then i dropped the card
I think the main problem with this card in mid-ladder is that being a ground splash tank, it really restricts the kind of decks you can play. I for example was a cycle player(I quit in 2021) and cycle decks' game plan is to maximize the value of lower elixir cards by kiting and using specific placements to stall for the princess tower to do enough damage to defend and therefore hope to have gained a positive elixir trade and get to counter. More often than not the MK will be higher level than my king tower and most of my card, which means my troops will die a lot easier and my princess towers simply don't do enough damage to counter it due to it being underleveled. This makes it extremely frustrating since I know I could have countered it if not for it's level. The nature of MK being a ground splash tank makes trying to defend against it really hard for cycle decks since most of those deck don't really use MK counters but rather rely on stalling/kiting and princess tower damage, which are unreliable while underleveled. So if I wanted to win against these overleveled MK decks the simplest answer would either be to join them or play decks containing cards that are able to specifically counter it even if underleveled which made the game unfun for me so I quit.
Basically he was easy to use, took very little skill to apply effectively. However it took more skill to beat him than it skill to use. Once you figured out his timing, how to abuse his jumps and learned a little more about the interactions... he was actually fairly easy to deal with. Obviously this is why in competitive play he wasn't used, cause he was never really THAT good. But when lower level players that don't want to learn how to get better, refuse to change decks or learn other ways of playing; a card like this gets abused
@@Cwmaltacc90 you dumb? lets take pekka for exmaple. They both get about a 300 hp increase per level, how does MK get better stats? if you overlevel anything obviously its going to have more stats

Mega Knight is an enigma with how he's seeing more success now when he was more powerful back then. I suppose magic items and pass royale are the main factors, but I can only imagine how many ladder players would use Mega Knighy before his big nerfs
Man I hate Supercell, I dont play Clash Royale since 2017 start, and Im watching your third video in a row right now, your storytelling is just so high quality I can be here for hours listening to stuff I dont really care that much, but you keep the stories so interesting, really nice job.
The problem has always been that the card is oppressive when overlevelled. Back when my cards were level 9 and 10, a level 12 Mega Knight was virtually game over. As a FTP player, facing it sucked, even knowing how to counter it the interactions are just awful when it kills everything with a jump, when it wouldn't at the same level.
i got back to the game after over almost 2 years ago, i stopped playing before they reworked card levels and such. Stuck at around 5.3k trophies being level 14 with a card average of 11-12 in my deck. And i can say, i really hate that card. It's mostly a skill issue, tho i can hate it nonetheless. It is just a very frustrating card to face, especially when you are underleveled against it. Its insane how this card just completely changes in terms of effectiveness the higher you go on the ranks. Really nice video about the card, actually made me realize more how different high and mid ladder actually are.
I actually stopped playing Clash Royale around the time that the Mega Knight was released. I didn't rage quit for good because of it, but it's an interesting coincidence.
I feel like the reason mega knight is good in mid-ladder is because of its health, with the health being easy to deal with in higher arena’s. I think mega knight needs a rework to make it have a better offense but slightly worse defense such as a small health nerf and small damage buff.
I think the biggest problem with Mega Knight is that it does too many things. It functions as both a tank and an AOE troop. Clash Royale's main gameplay mechanic is a sort of rock paper scissors mechanic with aoe countering swarm units, tanks countering aoe units, and swarms countering tanks. But because Mega knight is both a tank and an AOE, it has no hard counters, making it less satisfying to fight in my opinion.
I was literally just thinking this. He's Aoe, tanky and mobile when played right. He assists other cards and other cards assist him too well. I would usually counter mega knight with Inferno dragon, but then I would just get shock countered. I've either just played creatively amor just used megaknight myself.
Perhaps a video dedicated to Inferno Tower? Used to be such a strong card only to probably be the most forgotten building (Shame because it practically swapped stats with bomb tower when that was weak)
I think what got me so angry about it, was how easy it was to counter push my deck. Granted the deck that I used had golem so it was naturally harder to build a push and maintain elixir while the opponent dropped a MK and then E-Barbs shortly after, naturally I get pretty angry. Also the probability of running into one was another huge one for me. Other than that I actually like MK, I just never used it due how common it from when I last played.
"I think what got me so angry about it" Your own mature level and emotional connection to the game you're playing. Nothing else. it wasn't the card that got you angry.
Nobody remembers when Royal Giant could shot from the bridge when he was released and when elite barbarians was too strong they could go alone and melt everything , that was true horror to me mega knight is no problem to counter.

They should make the late game more competitive than midladder, which is a suffering stage.
funny how like 80% of these balancing problems would've never even existed if card levels weren't a thing.
Yes, players who get outplayed & get their pushes destroyed can sit back, build up 7 elixir, and crush your own 10 elixir+ push with one card.

The big issue, as always with Supercell, is the pay to win
agreed, i really like your conclusion
I just throw down a Pekka when he gets to my side and that easily kills him
The same applies to hog.
Well put, and not something I'd considered
I love the card cause I ran a no spell deck. It was my splash dmg card that and dark prince. They decks entire point was putting constant big dmg pressure on the towers and I’d often only play MK when they got a counter push goin to catch ‘em off guard

@@remsrhythm9408 hog is not op, all the cards with 3 below elixir are broken and stupid to use
The funny part is that MK isn't a wincon but he's designed to soak hits so you can sneak in a win con like battle ram 😉
I would know bc I play MK and just maxed him today 😅
Then again, what card doesn't feel strong over-leveled tho?
electro giant is the most powerful over leveled card hands fown
Just inferno tower plebs or a god damn knight, is it that hard

C'mon Mo Light, Morten, Boss, Ian, Ryley, etc.
Man isn't that the story of my life right now. My cards are level 11 with 2 12s and I'm constantly spammed with full level 14s with maybe 2 13s
It can be countered fairly easily but he usually comes with a Witch or any Wizard from behind

A singular Mini Pekka of a similar level counters Mega Knight for 3 less elixir.

And just because splash cards and cards with a lot of health make defense very easy.
i see freeze and rage a lot with bad players too because they cant make good enough pushes without them

Evolution 😈😈😈
I had to build an entirely new deck to progress on ladder because I went against mega knight every single game. After months of levelling a WHOLE DECK to level 14 I was finally able to break through. Now that I'm above 6k there aren't as many mega knights. He really is a ladder gatekeeper
What was your deck?
I usually always counter higher lvl MK’s with royal recruits and mini pekka
Knight lvl 12 and Dart Gobby lvl 13, I use a bait variant of that I easily counter
Whose fault is that. GG
You really think that? Even guards and a mini P.E.K.K.A can counter him, yes i use both
Are you kidding?
Wait until you see evo mega knight
I think the bigger reason why Mega Knight is so good in mid ladder is because he destroys the unorganized non-meta decks mid ladder players generally use.
And ironically, some midladder decks are so wildly unbalanced that meta decks can struggle to beat them.

You should do a video on the miner! That card feels like it never falls out of the meta

Yeah now everyone has maxed out full decks

@anxiolf that's way to much elixir irs so easy to defend take wizard out and go for ewiz
I have a pekka deck other than bridge spam. It is very defensive tho without win condition and you rely on counter play to win. It is also a bit cycly

Super cell is China. Super cell sucks. I cannot believe super cell still exists.
Same, and i counter every pass royale player like wtf
i got back to the game after over almost 2 years ago, i stopped playing before they reworked card levels and such.
Mega Knight I think has such a cool design. I remember when he came out, you literally couldn’t go a game without seeing him.
I actually stopped playing Clash Royale around the time that the Mega Knight was released. I didn't rage quit for good because of it, but it's an interesting coincidence.
Y'all are not gonna believe it 😂
I would like to see a history of the royale giant as that card has gone through a lot of changes and was the most hated card before mega knight

Inferno's all over midladder, and is like one of the most popular buildings there, since everyone runs mk pekka, and balloon
I had inferno maxed out and all gold, one of my favorite cards. Since everyone was using royale pussy, lava hound, and mega pussy
Cool card, hopefully they don’t add an overpowered evolution to it or anything
Nobody remembers when Royal Giant could shot from the bridge when he was released and when elite barbarians was too strong they could go alone and melt everything , that was true horror to me mega knight is no problem to counter.
It's super easy to counter megaknight. Everybody hates it cuz it can counter almost every push without any skill.
@@ThunderKnight007Most clash royale players have room temperature IQ and throw a fit when their shit cycle deck gets destroyed
Especially when u meet them with max level +rage that was pain
From the day that card appeared in the game,I have never stopped wishing that it never existed
Skill issue
@@kbe9125”erm skill issue 🤓” definitely a mega knight user
Easily countered, it is a skill issue
@@hotice9828that's a bad argument, since every card on it's own can be easily countered.
@@Bruhbhrisnbrubruhg2 elixir can counter it, cant beat it? You just suck
Both Infernos dragon, tower and pekka, does the job pretty well tbh.
I personally play with heavy combinations so it doesn't bother me if the opponent has a pekka, mega knight or a Golem.
