    It’s amazing how as soon as you added the accent one could start to hear that samba hint come through. I will likely never drum but finding these fascinating.

      You can also start by learning the accent pattern and incorporate the softer hits later as you go.

    I’m very glad to be alive particularly this day, my right foot survived a painful PRP procedure. Much pain to much gain, that’s my take away today. Thanks tho for lesson 👌🏼🔥🥁

    This is not a samba groove. This is "axé", a Brazilian rhythm that comes from the northeast of the country and is based on salsa claves

      we actually call this rhythm in Brasil “Samba Reggae”, the style that groups like Olodum plays

    I like your vids. This rhythm is technically a 3:2 clave, not a samba. I've heard heated arguments about the difference.

      Yeah that's an Afro-Cuban clave, heading to new Orleans when the kick enters. But that's just naming. The rhythms lovely and you all should learn it!

    Tip: This is Axe, but it's ok. Try to move all accents through the drum tom's and put an extra hi hat feet on "&" of all tempos.

    I think this is the same rhythm we used to play in our Murga group. From what I understand the Murga is a drum and dance group popular mainly in Spanish speaking countries, but I have no idea where the rhythms come from. If anyone knows more let me know thanks!

    That sounded more like Olodum, than samba. It’s super funny as brazilian to see how difficult it is for foreigners to grasp the nuances of our music’s rhythm.

    I suppose all a ending words followed by a vowel beginning next word as in "sambar on the" is the British rule. Maybe im wrong

      Yes, they do the same in Boston. I think it's called intrusive r. The alternative is a glottal stop, as in the bo'l o' wo'a meme

    Thing is. As a guitar player and pianist with decades of training, drums struggle to click with me souleybecause if the FEET! I have no struggle playing something eith my hands. But once I need to include my foot on the kick, I get lost.

    The kick and high hat pattern for Samba are counted as "one and a two and a three and a four". 😉
