People don't realize just how dominating Kareem was,...and,...he dominated even towards the end of his career. He scored 46pts against Hakeem and Ralph in 1986 at 39yrs old! He was a good free-throw shooter and passer as well!
@Coogan And? Your point?
He averaged 23.4 in 1985-86, the year he turned 39, which was the last year before Pat Riley "restructured" the offense where Magic was the central focus instead of Kareem! Kareem's last 3 years, he was still effective and could still give you the sky-hook in crucial situations. The Lakers made the finals all 3 years, winning 2, and easily could have 3-peat had Magic and Scott not been injured. They were playing lights-out before those injuries!
Game #3 of the '89 NBA finals showed what Kareem was about! With Magic now out, along with Scott, the Lakers put up a dogfight the whole way! At 42 in 33 minutes, Kareem had 24pts 13rebs 2ast 1stl! Wasn't quite enough though, as the Pistons prevailed 114-110 to go up 3-0 and eventually win the title!
I agree 100%, I always say Kareem when the topic of greatest of all time. Stats don't lie....
It’s cause you know basketball 👍🏾
Amen! Great conversation!
I went to middle school and played high school Basketball with my boy B Scott and I always tell younger guys Kareem is the Goat
The most unstoppable shot the skyhook in the history of the game. B I see you during your thing keep up the good work bro. Russ Jackson
I love the grit and fierce nature of 80’s basketball. Thanks for keeping it alive, Byron!
Kareem’s humility and confidence is refreshing.
Indeed, TYVVVVVM , B!
Why only 33 minutes?
Inexplicable!!!!!
Inexcusable!!!!
Insane!!!
Insulting!!!!
Incomprehensible!!!
Incredible!!!!
#33
Kareem did it at 'ALL' levels!! HS, Streetball, Collegiate & The Pros!!
Civil rights, politics, literature, .... he transcends the sports like Muhammad Ali, like Bruce Lee, he was a man of his era, he is not simply a basketball player, he is a cultural and political icon.
I grew up watching these Gentlemen. I am from Los Angeles. Greatest era in history. Kudos and thanks for creating such an amazing period in our lives.
Having the best fast-break team in NBA history & when ya can't run , You have Cap & his Sky-Hook...Pfft! LAKERS...FTW !
At the end of the interview you can tell that Kareem has a real appreciation and love for B. Like a little brother type of dynamic.
Great interview.
Kareem is definitely the Goat and he knows it
When Kareem first went to UCLA, freshman weren't allowed to play on the varsity. So, during the annual freshman vs varsity game, Kareem led his frosh team to a easy win over the varsity, who were the National Champions at the time!
For so many times, as a Brazilian teen kid (Oscar and Marcel's fan), I dreamed of watching a game at The Forum by these Legends of the late 80's... Distant days when even a t-shirt or a cap were unimaginable - the closest I got to the Lakers was drawing logo and letters over and over throughout my school's notebook! I never went to LA, but how many wonderful plays I have in my heart. Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Kareem Abdul jabbar G.O.A.T.
This podcast sure deserve at least million viewers.
I can't believe I didn't know about this podcast B Scott is one of my favorites and this is awesome!
Gotta love the love and respect among old true teammates. No wonder they did so much winning. They were a real family. The proof is in the present. Lets go champs!
Byron Scott you are really well spoken and I can probably listen to you talk all day! Thanks for doing these podcasts! & interviewing Kareem Abdul Jabbar was great!
Byron and Kareem want thank you guys for the year's of great sport entertainment and for being who you are. Time flys doesn't it. God Bless
GREAT at every level!!! The REAL GOAT.
Byron, your podcasts are so cool. As a Lakers fan during the 80's, I really appreciate your interviews and perspectives on those years and your take on the professional game as it is today. Those Lakers were such a special team. Thank you!
Love the podcast Byron 👍💯
Damn, I never knew this was a thing. Byron Scott interviewing his Showtime Lakers teammates. You need better marketing, man! And more Old school guests!
Kareem the 🐐
good to see the two legends together! Mr Kareem love the art behind on the wall
Great interview. Love to hear from the legends.
5:22 ... I swear I thought Cap was gonna say... " It was great for me too...cuz I was thirsty." Rofl.
Fantastic interview...Watching those Laker teams from 1979 through the late 80s and early 90s were some of the fondest memories for this Lakers fan! Mr. Scott, watching all those games was like watching my friends play. I recall shouting at the TV, "C'mon B...knock down that jumper", "C'mon Cap, swing left shoot right", "C'mon Buck or Magic, push that ball up", "C'mon Coop, stick to him like glue", I could go on, and on...
Thanks for showing the world what a great basketball team The Lakers were back then!
Really enjoy your podcast and looking forward to more...
I loved listening to these two great NBA players reminisce about their 80’s Championships and more. In fact I listened to the James Worthy interview as well back to back. I really love and breathe Laker Basketball and it all started with this era of the team. Thank you for the good interview B, and Thank all three of you for providing me with some of the very best memories in my life.
Peace out.
Same just finished Big Games episode and now watching the Cap drop knowledge.
Purple and Gold forever!
What a great interview and Podcast.
11:02 ... SUCH B.S.! THIS is how good Kareem was...Dominating players like Hakeem , Ewing , in his late 30's...
If people today saw Cap play in Milwaukee & how that Sky-Hook was shot from 10-15 feet from the hoop & the ball NEVER had an UPward trajectory...They be Poop'n themselves try'n to get his addy to write letters. When Lew (no-disrespect meant) was in his early years , He was out-playing Chamberlain. Blocking his shots...whole-9 ! I was PISSED ...ermm , I mean , I was blown away HOW he could DO that! lol. Much respect for both these guys. They brought me some of my best sports memories of all time....( I say memories when the truth is , I watch these old games all the time , lol ). Have one loaded up NOW. 4 ME... 80's to 90's...best NBA of all time. TY Fella's...for the memories! A year late but so happy to find this.
Ooo , you talked about it a lil bit near the end...nice!
The Greatest of all time Huge fan from Toronto 🇨🇦. Long live Cap....!
Great job B! I love Cap! Awesome interview💪🏿👍🏿👏🏾
Damn byron is 61! He looks like 61 with 6 & the 1 switched! INCREDIBLE! INSPIRING!
absolutely awesome to watch you two and I heard some things I hadn't heard from you before B...I got to share a lot of NJ and NO with you and both understand and dont understand management decisions there
As of Feb 8th.
Had it not been for the 3 point shot Lebron would still be aproximatelly
6,708 points behind Kareem.
2,237 shots made by Lebron (6,711 points)
vs. 1 shot made by Kareem (3 points).
6,711-3 = 6,708.
Nice knowledge my man. Appreciate that. Puts it in perspective. That’s nuts.
Very interesting podcast I enjoyed it!
B. Scott 61 yrs old and born in 61 looking great!
That Bruce Lee story is wild
And there are people out there think Bruce lee could not fight . Or fake .
Great show. Byron does NOT age. Byron u look great 👍. I was a HUUUGE Laker fan in the 80’s. Love this podcast. Has Magic been on yet? Bout to check out episode with Coop.
Showtime was the most beautiful basketball ever played! 💜💛💜
Well done B! The “Cap” was off the chart! No surprise with is kudos about you at end of the interview. Damn…He learned martial arts from the legend Bruce Lee? Leaning that was cooooool!!
He was in one of the movies with Bruce.
I didn’t know he coached in Oklahoma City, I live in okc and wish I could have seen him in person.
He’s underrated and should be in the GOAT conversation.
The bruce lee incident was funny
The Greatest Eva.
Kareem is the greatest basketball player of all time for sure but when people talk about GOAT they are only counting the NBA stuff
time flies
The skyhook is not an easy shot to learn. I tried it and I couldn’t get it down. I think people have tried it but couldn’t master it and that’s why guys do half hooks
Shame on the Lakers for never giving Kareem a coaching gig. I bet if his name was still Lew...
It’s a guy in the G league is doing the skyhook. I cannot remember his name, but he uses that to perfection. I searched it. His name is. Xavier Simpson’s
Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor! 🏀
I saw Kareem play in person.
7'2" center, 3 NCAA Championships with UCLA, without throwing a dunk.
that would be game 98 bulls vs. showtime lakers
YOU guys must know this...But the physical play in the 80-2000's wasn't BLEEP compared to the game in it's turn of the century-early years when players were known as CAGERS. Kept multiple ambulances/Dr's ready to help the players who were..coff coff..have'n a "bad" game. Crazy right
My uncle pooman "6" always use that hook shot and it worked since I was a kid my lil sister McDonald all American and haven't non of us figured it out..I'm bank master though
KAREEM was 38 as the 1985 finals MVP
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Hey Byron, the reason Kareem is pushed aside in the GOAT discussion is due to shallow people titillated with style. Jordan and Lebron have styles that titillate. The swooping ,slamming and jamming etc…
Ask anyone who wants to debate the GOAT conversation, what is their criteria for such? You will find straight up reluctance to articulate one.
Well,here’s the criteria;
MUST be in the conversation of greatest high school player ever
MUST be in the conversation of greatest college player ever
MUST be in the conversation of greatest professional player ever
MUST Have won titles on all three levels
MUST be stellar on both sides of the ball
MUST have at least 5 league MVP awards
This equates only one player…KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR!
Case closed!
Great interview. I agree the whole concept of the game of basketball has changed. Just not fun to watch anymore.
Bruh you must be a old head
MT.RU$HMORE WILT RUSSELL KAREEM & OSCAR ⭐ HONORABLE MENTION JORDAN MAGIC & A SPECIAL SHOTOUT TO NATE (tiny) ARCHIBALD 🤣IT BAFFLES ME THAT HE LED THE LEAGUE IN SCORING AND ASSIST .. C'MON NATE 🍷GREAT SHOW BYRON ..YOU DESERVE PRIMETIME ⭐ AND IT IS BOUT TIME KAREEM GET HIS FLOWERS 🌺🌹 HE CASUALLY GOT HIS POINTS 🏀LEBRON CHASING
Watched Andrew Bynum in NBA summer league after he was drafted, worst NBA player I have ever seen, so yeah, Kareem did a phenomenal job with Bynum.
The problem is that the bronsexuals talk and say because they didn't do these things against the superior players of today it doesnt count.
I don't like today's NBA or NFL.
They changed the games too much.
As they said. The game was inside out.
Get the ball to the open man.
I started watching game in 68 or so.
Yep. Started watching in 1970. The three, freedom of movement, and the "take" foul has changed the NBA game for the worse. The object was to get a good shot, the close to the hoop the better. Now it's inverted.
As great as it is to interview Kareem, I am not a fan of era bashing, team bashing, and player bashing in such a way as it is done here. It's unnecessary and makes you guys smaller than you should be.
