Two Kids the guy won 5 mvps, 2 more than lbj and 4 more than kobe....certainly one of top 5 players ever, Celtics fan....I do not even really like kareem
Jean-Luc Du Preez Most points in NBA history, most wins in NBA history, most MVPs in NBA history, 6 championships, 19x all-star. You’d be hard pressed to get out of the top 3 without mentioning Kareem. I personally have him at #2 behind MJ.
@@jldp24 if you watched him play for 20 years like I did you would realize he played at the highest level longer than anyone he was consistently good or great at everything
I had the chance to meet Kareem at Marcus Books store in Oakland, he was humble and it took a lot for me not ask him any questions lol but I did call him CAP! and he give me of look of surprise do I know this guy great moment for me, AND YES HE'S GREATER THAN MJ PERIOD!
I loved listening to this and even more so watching it. I love how Kareem's intelligence has always radiated from him. Seeing tell the stories w his smile and eyes is so great. My favorite athlete of all-time. #TheCaptain
I never knew he was so influenced by watching Bill Russell, nice to hear him verify Russell's greatness. So many ill informed modern basketball fans, who make negative comments about the great players of the past. Interesting to hear how he made his decision to go to UCLA based on the fact that they played a similar style as the Boston Celtics, who he felt played the right way.
Close but I do believe Jordan got him by a hair. I do believe Magic elevated his career. I watched with my own eyes. Lakers did win for years with Kareem till Magic won in his rookie year.
Dan Patrick. One of the most underrated sports minds in today’s cluttered sports world. His interviews with Kareem are so genuine. He allows Kareem to open and expand on his career, his relationship with coach Wooden, the philosophy of coach Wooden. Who , by any standard is the best college basketball coach produced in the United States. Much respect. Dan Patrick. A treasure himself!
Excellent interview! KAJ deserves many accolades for been a down to earth man in addition to be the best basketball center of all times. Dan you are the greatest interviewer in the business! Keep the good work!
Allah bless Kareem Abdul-Jabbar! I'm a fan of this super-intelligent man, a jazzist, a great basketball player and a left-wing american. A hug from the brasilian lands. We love you!
63 yrs watching the game for 53 yrs . Jabbar is the GOAT. At 40+ battled the original twin towers . Look at the bx score nough said . The NBA PLAYERS KNOW. Pretend You are a GM of all past and active players everyone, who’s ur first pick?
i love kareem grew up in milwaukee watching him play for the bucks had photos that i took of him warming up and playing i lost them met bill russell also back when he coached the seattle supersonics after a game between the bucks and sonics loved bill russell also it was a great time to be a kid.
Wait a second, that's not Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he was the co-pilot on my flight from LA. Name was Roger Murdoch, I think. Really rough flight, glad I chose the chicken dinner
(UCLA) “#1in the country, #2 on campus” 😆 Dan Patrick really brings out the best in his interviews It’s a shame that no NBA team considered him as a coach or SNL never had him host
6' hard 195lb. DING! How can you not be a better person for just watching that interview. Both of these guys are legends in their arena. I can objectively put Dan in the top 5 of doing interviews..athletes, entertainers, politicians, average joe's.
John Wooden called him Lewis until his death!! Kareem won 6 out 10 NBA Finals..19 All star Games. He was an activist, He fought Bruce Lee.!! Dated lovely Pam Grier. Any question about who is the greatest !!
The Bucks from 1969 to 1974 won 304 games and the Knicks 266 and yet Willis Reed was 15 and 6 against Kareem or Jabbar was 6 and 15 against Willis! In the 1970 playoffs in the 5 game Bucks series and the first 4 games of the finals against Wilt, Willis Reed scored 266 points with 120 rebounds shooting 53%. He was injured early in game 5, missed game 6 and Wilt had 45 and 27 and in game 7 could hardly walk but gutted out 27 minutes to inspire the Knicks as Clyde starred and DD had 18 points and 17 rebounds. Willis was injured in the 1971 playoffs tearing shoulder muscles in his left shooting arm and the Knicks lost for the only time in 6 playoffs to the Bullets in 7, 93-91, was out in the 1972 playoffs with knee surgery and Wilt finally won a title as a Laker and in the 1973 finals Willis with a bad left knee was able to gut out 96 minutes in games 3 to 5 against Wilt scoring 61 points with 33 rebounds shooting 54% winning a second MVP finals award. Only bad science and medicine could stop Willis Reed! A healthy Reed to 35 like Russell or almost 37 like Wilt and he would of won 5-6 NBA titles easy! Kareem Jabbar a 56% shooter and stud as a Buck averaging 30 and 16 and yet against Willis Reed 6 wins and 15 losses shooting only 50%! Jabbar was lucky Reed was injured in the 1971 playoffs or the Knicks would of played the Bucks and Jabbar would of had no NBA titles until he had Magic!
Growing up I wanted to be a Lew Alcindor, but I never grew more the 6'3 in height.. But I learned how to make hook shots after copying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.. People think he couldn't play in this Era of Stretch Fives Centers .. But just think that this man could make 20Ft Sky Hooks, that with his accuracy 3's would nothing .. RUSSEL WILT KAREEM with Hakeem plus Shaq are the Greatest NBA centers..
It is a crime that greats like Kareem are not in our conversations for GOATs
That’s cause of his views on life - he is in his own league I respect him !!!
Kareem is imo, one of the 4 goat-candidates:
MJ (my choice)
Bill Russell
Kareem
Magic (outsider chance)
There's this quality to Kareem's person that is hard to describe... Very genuine that can also be perceived as distant. Really enjoyed this interview.
...or still a little of that awkward teenager.
I grew up in LA in the 70's and 80's. I still am amazed how little Kareem gets mentioned as best all time. For 20 years he was the man.
Two Kids the guy won 5 mvps, 2 more than lbj and 4 more than kobe....certainly one of top 5 players ever, Celtics fan....I do not even really like kareem
Leo Durocher 6 mvps. He has the most
If you see his stats year by year you realise one thing....He is not the best of all time..definately

Kareem Sir, you are the epitome of class, integrity, humility and modesty...... and the absolute GOAT in my book.
Kareem is and always will be the best of all time ive been watching him play since 1966

I’ll say it... Greatest basketball player I’ve ever seen..

I have gained even more respect for Kareem!,very understated and humble
'Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!' KAJ on 'Airplane! was priceless!!
Say there mama I dug her rap. Yang loose blood
Kareem the GOAT of basketball.
Nobody interviews legends like Dan. Especially when it comes to basketball. Game recognize game.
In my opinion Kareem is the GOAT ! Sure some will disagree but just look at the numbers then decide !
Close but I do believe Jordan got him by a hair. I do believe Magic elevated his career. I watched with my own eyes. Lakers did win for years with Kareem till Magic won in his rookie year.
Great man, great interview, and definitely one of the best big men ever. Awesome times in the man cave.
First time i saw Kareem was against artis gilmore, saw him do a skyhook and just fell in love with the shoot. Became a Laker fan because of him

Nice conversation
That was touching at the end, Kareem talking about his life role reversal with John Wooden...

Are you better than Jordan? Kareem- No but just as effective as him. This is how I feel. I watch both play. I thought the same way.
Smooth flight...even smoother landing DP. Thanks for getting us there safely.

Game Basement what a shit movie
@Jack McLane its from the movie airplane
Yes, I remember. I had lasagna
@@wizard1687 thank you for reminding me that i made this comment
Shows how stacked the UCLA roster was if the freshman team can beat the varsity team but the varsity team is still number one in the country

I'm 61, grew up right behind this guy. Always fascinating. Hear the term, student-athlete, here it is
Great book. Well written.. just a very good read.
Lots of class, his response to losing in game of century was great.

Great interview Dan!
If Kareem we're not so loving, easy best NBA ever
My first memory of Kareem was a big scary dude that fought Bruce Lee!! Then later I found out he was a student of Bruce's... :)
haha, me too, I used to have nightmares about that character, never saw a person that big before.
Love Kareem.
This guy has been famous since he was 13... and someone you could point any kid to and say be like him. let that sink in.
I will never understand how you can hate a person because of their race. We still going through that mess
His numbers today would be freakish.
That's awesome. Muhammad Ali was doing magic tricks for random strangers on the street on Hollywood Blvd. Haha!
Kareems a class act!
GOAT
Imagine how many points hed have if he didnt go to college
Never thought of that 🤔

The no dunk rule in college at the time made Kareem develop his dagger...The Skyhook.
