Pacifism is opposition to war, militarism, or violence.
The word pacifism was coined by the French peace campaigner Émile Arnaud (1864-1921) and adopted by other peace activists at the tenth Universal Peace Congress in Glasgow in 1901.
A related term is ahimsa (to do no harm), which is a core philosophy in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
While modern connotations are recent, having been explicated since the 19th century, ancient references abound.
In modern times, interest was revived by Leo Tolstoy in his late works, particularly in The Kingdom of God Is Within You.
Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948) propounded the practice of steadfast nonviolent opposition which he called "satyagraha", instrumental in its role in the Indian Independence Movement.
Its effectiveness served as inspiration to Martin Luther King Jr., James Lawson, James Bevel, Thich Nhat Hanh and many others in the civil rights movement.

Pacifism is meek and cowardly, don't be a middleman serving False Peace.

..but there are so many traditions in Buddhism.
Some, in fact oppose the very idea of worshipping.

He is teaching right? Even if he decided not to mention 'Right Livelihood' to the soldiers, he did mention 'Right Action'. But was it right what he said about 'Right Action'? It seems like he is saying right action is following the duty (the orders). What about the duty todays fellow human beings and towards your own self? Isn't 'Right Action' (as described in Buddhism) not taking life, etc etc? Not taking life is the first one.

"According to the discourses, if a hinderance is present and one does not recognize it, one is "mis-meditating", a form of practice the Buddha didn't approve of. But if one does recognize the presence of hinderance and contemplates it as a satipatthana meditation, one's practice will lead to purification of mind." - Ajahn Analayo in his book Sattipatthana - the direct path to realisation

Amida Buddha made his Primal Vow to guide even the most stupid and evil beings, like the serial murderers in the Army, to the Pure Land and nirvana. It’s wonderful to see these soldiers being exposed to the Buddha’s compassionate teachings. Namu Amida Butsu!
