I remember an interview years ago in which Richard Gere said he struggles to meditate and his goal was 45 minutes , that he often felt his mind wandering. That honesty gave me so much relief that it was not only ok that meditation was and is still a challenge for me, but here was someone who studied directly with HHDL and still struggled to meditate. It’s a skill and I’m grateful to people who have a platform and use it to show that we’re all just human and everyone starts at the beginning of a skill and only improves with practice, not because of fame or anything other than simply practice and guidance. 🙏🏾

It IS hard to walk the talk. Also, look at his relationship track record. No need to look further than his current love interest. But, if we look back and fast forward today, Cindy Crawford is an amazing person, woman, mother, and wife. Beautiful inside and out. She wanted to settle with Richard and have a comitted lifelong loving relationship but Richard was not quite there. And he still isn't :(. C'est la vie as the French say.

And what a beautiful world to see good people doing an amazing job (karma) to help, to heal , to support, to give and to care for other beings ....
( including human, animals and environment ) 😇😍🙏
It does not matter what country you are from... what colour you are .... Or what religion you beliefs in..... This is about love and compassion
( in Buddhism we calls metta ❤❤❤ )
Let me share this old story with you guys from my grandparents 😭😘😇
Anyway: have you guys heard the story about four types of lotus yet or no ???
    Simple English ok
It is about four different types of people dealing with their own mind !!!
#1. 1st group of lotus was extremely under the thick mud
( these group of people are has no ideas, no interested in anything about other people but themselves only !!! )
#2. 2nd group of lotus was above the thick mud ....
( these group of people are just not really sure ???
Even they know that positive energy are out there .... or good actions are better......
but their mind is still sturbon and deny ...... )
#3. 3rd group of lotus was reaching to the water but still under the water surface ....
( these group of people are happy to learn, happy to give a try if they see something is appropriate and it is not danger or harming anyone ... they are willing to follow the good path, the good energy and so on etc.... )
#4. 4th group of lotus was above the water surface, there are reaching out for the sunshine ☀.... ( these group of people are more educated, more wisdom, more freedom in their mind, the moment that they understood about what is happening .... what is right and what is wrong, they didn't want to waste their time.... they just go for it.... They would succeed in their life.....
And these group of people contribute the time to themselves, family, friends, animals, community and environment etc....
Again in Buddhism is loving Kindness and compassion
    ( metta ) 😇😍🙏❤
Once who practice meditation regularly like Richard Gere for example or any one out there... The mind is in different level or higher level.... They think more positive, they are humble ...down to earth.... they are more creative and they have lot of metta , than you 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
    Thank you for reading,
    take care and cheers

What does intelligence have to do with truth? For instance, suppose there was a type of atom no one knew about and some highly intelligent people who study atoms knew nothing about it. Then one day, completely by accident, an experiment revealed that a new type of atom existed under every one's noses and it was this one experiment that no one else thought of doing that revealed it and not only were these other atom scientists surprised by it's existence but it's discoverer was surprised since, of course, he didn't intend to make any such discovery. His intention was to test a completely different idea out. Now here is the question does that mean these scientists were all completely stupid? Or is it more rational to conclude that they were not expected to know since whatever the circumstances of the experiment was was something none of them thought to do? Notice how the central fact of this analogy isn't how intelligent they were but how much they didn't know? And this is very likely to happen too, since accidental discoveries like this are made in science all the time by highly intelligent people. The point is how much intelligence you have has no bearing on what is truth. Truth is Truth. Classical logic actually has a law regarding truth as part of the Law of Noncontradiction. It is called " A does not equal Non A" which means for a thing to be truth it can't be more then itself and it can't be less then itself. Another great thinker whose comment is very relevant to this is Socrates who says " Because I know nothing I am wiser." Whose statement implies that real intelligence is in admitting that you don't know everything not that you know something, whether it is buddhism or any of the world religions.

Buddha looked up to Jesus, I’ll take the latter. Buddhism speaks of controlling your desires, looks like he didn’t get his eating habits under control - also the desires include “love” - explain that as a good thing? Buddhism doesn’t claim to be a religion though, it claims to be a philosophy, therefore really, it’s self professed man made ideas. I can get those on my own if I wanted them. There is a Heaven, there is a hell and there most certainly is a creator, what’s ridiculous is believing that all of Jesus eye witness disciples would lie and be imprisoned again and again and then martyred on a group lie, and then Paul as well. And for the majority of the entire known world still to believe this “lie” that Jesus rose from the grave. And that when I pray in his name miracles take place. But that’s really the only way someone I will come to the truth if they encounter him in that powerful of a way. He’s right though, our eyes are lying to us. Only God can open them.

Buddhism does say “There’s No God Creation” whatsoever.
We are taught to understand that all beings are being virtual, cyclical and evolved. All Beings including trees, animals etc are comprising of spirits plus 4 elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire and all these are blended to be a life …fetus, then entering into the circle of life which are birth, aging, illness and death. Afterwards the endings will become a new beginning in the different forms, status, well-beings, places of birth, parents dependent upon ones’ own actions in their previous lifetimes.
What ones will be or be entitled to receive are entirely down on themselves. For example, if one is very kind and generous though not well-to-do. When she is in need, she will typically always be getting helping hands unwittingly. This is just because her own previous benign merits has been bouncing back exactly the same as we are hitting the ball towards the wall, it is definitely being right back directly to us. We call this “Law of Karma”. You reap what you saw. None of God gives what actually belong to you because you have already created them on your own.
In Buddhism, we are always being aware of what we think, act and speak because if all three modes are in sync, it will generate benevolent, beneficial and potent results and vice versa if not. We are aware since 2600 years ago that we are not living alone in the universe and do acknowledge of time dimensions, reincarnation and spirits living among us, though none without high levels of meditation training and highly sensory mind receptive be able to optically, consciously or subconsciously trace them clearly. So “the term of God in Buddhism” is actually everyone of us can be evolved to be through long standing and constantly behaving highly ethically and well-intentionally as well as least tainted , whereas paying all our bad karmas in so numerous lifetimes like Bodhisattava in Mahayana Buddhism. Therefore we follow Buddha’s instructions how to grow as a better person by acting and practicing Dhamma with compassion, peace, rationale, wisdom and true happiness every time goes by.
In general, Buddhists are not against Theists but consider them in different context and being insignificant to direct, determine or control our lives. “We are our own God” because our minds are so powerful and dangerous so we need awareness whenever as to exercise them wisely and usefully. Whether meaningful, successful or not, our lives are led by our single or collective actions and multilateral associations equipped with either mindfulness, recklessness or ignorance, thus bringing our destinies that could turn to be either blessed or sore. All are up to us choosing which path we want to walk on. Buddha was a human who excelled through self experimentation and undaunted endeavors until finding the right way or a middle path to achieve the enlightenment, then “Nibbana or Nirvana.” He set himself to be an inspiration and an conspicuous exemplar that you will definitely succeed if putting your endless effort or practicing in summary. That’s why Buddhists are grateful, looking upon highly to , respect and follow his teachings or Tripitaka or Dhamma through his disciples, Monk or Sangha. We are greatly appreciative and gratifying with his pass-on wisdom. These are typical reasons why we always pay respect and pray to Tri-Gems : Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha as a proof of our gratitude.
Virtue, Meditation and Wisdom are of solid foundation in Buddhism. Shortly so to speak.
However, we respect diversity and other differences.
Sadhu ...from a Thai Theravada Buddhist.

Does a homeless mother living on the streets with her child whom she cannot feed have an objective reality, or is her mind just lying to her? Do the captives in North Korean prisons have an objective reality, or are their minds simply lying to them? See, I think Buddhism is beautiful and I envy the peace and way of life that comes with Buddhism, but when you start denying reality as actual reality that's where it all goes off the rails in my opinion. And it isn't that I'm small minded or that I can't expand my mind's horizons, or that I'm incapable of deep thoughts. I'm someone who often finds myself questioning the nature/origins of human life/earth, etc. I learn all I can about different religions, while inherently and fundamentally rejecting all forms of organized religion, because in my view, we're humans and we don't know a damn thing and that's perfectly fine with me. I'm most attracted to Buddhism because it's basically the "religion" that preaches "just be kind" and I'm all about that, but I'm sorry... there's no objective reality and it's just our minds lying to us? I get where you're trying to go with that Richard (and like minded Buddhists), but please spare me that silliness. Tell the Nurses and Doctors working the COVID floors that their minds are just lying to them.

In the teaching of Buddhism, meditation and how the mind works scientifically a lot that is said is correct. But even science cannot explain the higher power that created us. I'm a nurse and in nursing I have seen a lot of people pass. And even people that denied that there was a god, We're praying to God on their Deathbed . There is another dimension out there that the human eye cannot see, most of the time.

Jesus said don't worry about your outside needs but seek first the Kingdom of God and all those things will be added to you. So Christians of today have built this monstrous organised church system filled with all source of activities, money making, preachings, teachings etc, etc, thinking that the more they are involved in all this the closer they get to the Kingdom. The result is an obvious disaster because they completely ignore what Jesus said next : the Kingdom of God is WITHIN YOU. And that's what the Buddha have found when he started meditating, looking inside. Hence the striking similarities of these two teachings. Folks it's in the inside of each of us. Seek and keep exploring. No matter how much we have learned we need to keep the mind of a beginner in order to learn more. Buddhist have kept the teaching and focus on the love, compassion and happiness as well of how to deal with suffering by finding the methods and keep them in practice.
Christians should do the same by returning to basics and from there start to look inside and learn from the real source, the indwelling God. Buddhists call this meditation that leads to Nirvana. In Jesus words, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Nirvana.

It is informative to examine Stephen Colbert's reactions to the lack of concrete givens in Buddhism. He is a practicing Catholic whose spiritual paradigm comes fromd an institution whose entire history is based upon using religious dogma to control the secular world. Remember, for hundreds of years the Pope was the arbiter of political power in Europe and eventually much of the world.
An illustrative personal experience. When I left the military, I worked for a consulting company that contracted to nuclear power plants to assist them in complying with NRC technical regulations for the management and control of nuclear material. My partner and I were brought on board to exapnd that to include the security of the power plants.
Several times a week, one of my colleagues -- a brilliant physicist -- would come to my office and we'd eat our sandwiches and discuss 'things'. One day he was trying to explain relativity to me, when frustrated because I just couldn't fit the uncertainty into my military brain, I said, "Look John, if I'm running 5 miles and hour and sweating like a pig, five miles an hour is five miles an hour."
He just smiled his Yoda smile, leaned back in his chair and said, "Not if I'm across the universe."

@@mateokarlvonpavlovic8295FYI, the biggest difference between Buddhism and Christianity is there are no evidence Buddhism is not truth but enough evidence Christianity is fake. Check these 20 evidence especially the first 4 and the last paragraph that explains it all:
20 IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE that proved Bible God is likely FAKE, don't miss the last paragraph that explains them all:
      1) A creator god claimed to be all mighty should be the oldest and only religion but all the pagans, Greek, Chinese, Hinduism religions existed earlier. This proved their Creator claim fake.
      2) Jesus similarities with Buddha. Maya to Mary, miracle pregnancy to virgin pregnancy, birth during a journey home to from home, prophesied soon after birth, both had a disciple who betrayed them, walked on water, Gautama left the palace at age 29 and Jesus appeared at 29, Gautama became Buddha at 35 and Jesus died and resurrected at around 35 too, Buddha had a big meal while Jesus had a last supper before they died, after they passed away, 500 arahants witnessed compilation of Buddha's teachings and over 500 witnesses to Jesus's resurrection etc. All coincidental ? Beside Buddha, Jesus was also found to be copied from other figures. Surely they can't be ALL coincidental.
      3) Many of the Bible's mythologies was copied from older pagans, Greek, Egyptian or Hinduism religions(note the names too) E.g. Adam & Eve from Atman and Jiva, in Hinduism, big flood and survivor Noah/3 sons same as Manu/3 sons although cause of flood is different. Even the names of Abraham and wife/sister Sarah close to Brahma and Saraswathi beside having quite similar story. Regardless of which religion copied which, it proved this god is NOT the only true god or all mighty as it doesn't makes sense for an ALMIGHTY GOD to create or allow more copies or religions.
      4) Why should a true all mighty and all knowing God allowed their people to branch off and kill their parent religion Judaism or Zoroatruism ? "Free will" as an excuse is not acceptable as earlier they claimed their God killed all people with a big flood(without freewill) because they sinned.
      5) The way they collect tithings during Sunday mass is so tricky. They know people will be shy not to pay or tend to pay more when others could be watching. This is why they don't just use a stationed money box like Buddhism, Hinduism or Chinese temples where people can donate anytime. Catholics and Islam made it even bigger by suggesting donation of a certain percentage of their income.
      6) The Bible condemned non-followers, clearly mentioned in Mark's words 16:16. Why should a Creator God's religion condemn non-believers when in the first place, they claimed their God created the world? Isn't this like playing both sides of the same coin, both good and evil ?
7)Not knowing why or how the world exists don't mean that it was created by a god. Now "Creator" idea got stale, they use "Intelligent Design" What is so intelligent in its design? If people don't need to go to toilet and don't have unpleasant feelings or sufferings, then I will call it an intelligent design.
8)Wisdom, mindfulness and meditaion are not taught or encouraged by them because they don't want their followers' minds to be clearer and wiser.
9)The Bible copied very much from older religions but not the theory of karma because karma idea defeats the purpose of the all mighty God and it will prevent people from doing bad deeds. Saying God love or forgive sins is a trick playing both sides of the coin.
      10) If there is a loving God, why are there Christian babies born with disease or innocent children being abused or died young ?
      11) It don't makes sense to claim that only their believers will go to heaven and others don't since they claimed their God created all people. Such claim is an insult to other religions and cultures and caused people to divide. A good religion should be non-sectarian, secular and treat all people equally.
12)Most major festivals and holidays related to Christianity are fake including Christmas(Jesus can't be born in winter), Easter, Thanksgiving, Good Friday, All Souls, Halloween and even New Year are copied from paganism.
      13) Using fear like hell or "end of the world" every 2 years but we are still here.
      14) The fraud case of Mother Teresa(Google it) and after she died, those money she collected was not returned to India.
15)If their God is all-mighty, why need missionaries to convert others ?
      16) The ongoing child sex abuses committed by the pastors/priests that I read so often.
      17) The Bible is full of lust(Solomon's part), evil and violence. Their God killed countless people when Satan only killed a few.
      18) The Bible condemned dogs because they know dogs are man's best friend. Making men lonely is the best way to keep them dependant on religion.
      19) If God created everybody, why then condemn LGBT or other religions ?
      20) Incidents, eg: (a) Covid-19 highest fatalities rate countries are all highly religious, 500K Americans alone !! (b)The Air Asia plane crash of 2019 killed 41 church members, 2 missionaries and their few month old baby. (c) spree killings happened inside a church.
Only 1 reason can tie up all 20 points above, this God was man-made to con or control people.

Buddha is a word called "Boddhi" means awakened .. storyline come as a human being... and in all branches of Buddhisms .. Buddha said.. He dont want to be assumed as a god.. because he is not a god not of a creator He just teach how to eliminate suffering... (Find BBC full documents of both Buddha and Christianity You will understand the whole thing I guess) Many call it a science because it itself the whole thing is about our mind... and how its work.. Like 5 senses touch sounds etc ... and what we now learning as reflex (afferent receptor efferent) had already noted since 500-600 BCE
Some western and Buddhist misinterpreted some kind of words like "What we think we become" -Buddha like mind only exist... instead of our mind control our behavior and life.. we call non virtual not because the world or other people dont exist but because.. the earth or the body is the way it is.. we dont own it... its constantly changing.. (in science.. cell renewal and degeneration) It teach us not to attach our body face or sth... ( not meaning to terminate all the materials) the problem is not the materials but our mind or perspectives on things... 😁

Its how u percieve . In bigger sense , it cud b that our capacity to show anger or love with that thing will open up a whole new world differently for different person . It doesnt mean i dont kno that other things exist or has chance to exist , its just means i will be present only in one place / situation based on mychoices i made in the prior frame of time and i will live only that , for others i know they exist and hav an idea but wasnt there to live .

      1) Jesus similarities with Buddha. Maya to Mary, miracle pregnancy to virgin pregnancy, birth during a journey home to from home, prophesied soon after birth, both had a disciple who betrayed them, walked on water, Gautama left the palace at age 29 and Jesus appeared at 29, Gautama became Buddha at 35 and Jesus died and resurrected at around 35 too, after they passed away, 500 arahants witnessed compilation of Buddha's teachings and over 500 witnesses to Jesus's resurrection etc. All coincidental ? Beside Buddha, Jesus also copied from Horus and Mithra. Surely they ALL cannot be coincidental.
      2) Many of the Bible's mythologies was copied from older pagans, Greek, Egyptian or Hinduism religions(note the names too) E.g. Adam & Eve story similar to Atman and Jeewa, a pair of birds in Hinduism, big flood and survivor Noah/3 sons same as Manu/3 sons although cause of flood is different. Even the names of Abraham and wife/sister Sarah close to Brahma and Saraswathi beside having similar story. Regardless of which religion copied which, it proved this god is NOT the only true god or all mighty as it doesn't makes sense to create or allow more copies or religions.

    Now,
School of Budism has few versions..
Theravada,Mahayana. and Tibtian version(I don't remember the name of it)
But,the first one was the pure form of Budism, that created by Buddha..
Others have formed by adding other Indian Philoshopies,by Different teachers..
So, what Richard follow is Not the Buddha's original version..
    Now,Budha never says GOD doesn't exist .
    He didn't comment on GOD..
in Few occasions When someone asking about existence about GOD..
    He said yes to someone
    and
also He said NO to someone..
Why, because,His path is to Get liberate from This birth cycle, because That is the only way 100%get liberate from suffering..
So, He said forget about any GOD concepts and Get liberate through your mind ,body and emotions..
He said, we can get liberate in a systematic manner ,just by
    Some specific Methods..
    That is Budhas teaching's..
    So, now Does GOD exist..
Yes..But not the way Christianity and Islam explains..
    GOD is not a person..
GOD is important, omnipresent, ever pervasive, ,No end No begining That which is not bound by Intelect..
    That's what Hindusm Teach..
But Buddha says, it doesn't matter ,But all we want is just liberate and you will be free..

It's a good dialogue especially from Gere but when you hear some of the things he says like 'your eyes are lying to you' that's incorrect. Everything put in front of us is real and everything we have is a gift from God. Also, when you look at the lives of Jesus and Buddha there's really no comparison. Jesus is King

      @roshinijayawickrema8776 2 года назад

Don't worry about.... Not everyone can understand when he said your eyes are lying. It has a greater meaning than what you see. One cannot compare the Buddha to Jesus or any one. May be Jesus is king to you and I respect your belief. Why I said one cannot compare Buddha to anyone is, that no man, god, animal, devil or any force could kill the Buddha but only the course of Mother Nature. We have learned that few powerful Kings tried to Kill the Buddha, they all failed and became followers of the Buddha.
My advice is, before commenting about Buddhism, first understand it.

Also, The scriptures about Buddah come some 500 years later which has never sat well for me in that we don't actually know what Buddah said and taught. This approach to Buddhism is wrong. Buddhism is not idealistic. It does not deny the existence of an outside world. In fact it does not even go into the realm of materialism and idealism. It simply states that both the outside world and the mind are impermanent and beyond control, and there is no such thing as self- what we percieve as self are merely the causal phenomena of the mind and the physical world. Hence it is futile to 'want' the world to be a certain way and would only lead to suffering. The Buddhist path is the process of training the mind to accept this simple reality and let go of craving thus attaining liberation from suffering. It's as simple as that. There's no need to inject the Western philosophy of Idealism into Buddhism

Here's another way to look at it---
Universal Mind (the word "God" has too much baggage attached to it to be used in this scenario) which has always existed, is NOT all-powerful...and is the ONLY thing that does exist. What we perceive as the Universe merely is Universal Mind's imagination, or dream (of some sort), or something else unknown but similar to those two possibilities. In other words, what we perceive as "real" really is the ultimate Grand Illusion.
We easily can imagine that such a thing is possible simply by considering our own experience with our own dreams. When we are dreaming, everything in the dream seems real; only when we awaken do we find out the truth of the matter. Buddhists say that until you awaken to the true nature of existence and the Universe, you essentially will be frustrated, unhappy, and suffering. A Zen Master long ago said, "Once you realize the true nature of the Universe, the only thing left to do is to have a good belly laugh." :)
Such a scenario or possibility as described above includes or encompasses all religions, philosophies, and beliefs. Nothing is slighted or excluded… and none of it is "real". In such a case, perhaps we humans finally can cease squabbling with and killing each other. Instead, we all can have a good belly laugh and enjoy “life”.
One reasonably might ask: what would be the point of "life" in such a case? In my estimation, the point would be that Universal Mind wants to experience everything: the good, the bad, the wonderful, the ugly, and all else in between.
I'm not A Tibetan Buddhist, but have been a Zen Buddhist since 1974. Converted from Christianity. That came about for many reasons, especially the writings of Alan Watts. You younger folks are lucky: clips of his talks are all over RUclips.
    Happy Trails,
    Scott Haley
