- Captain Thomas Dyer recently became the 1st Buddhist Chaplain to serve in the United States Army and provides Soldiers and civilians with Buddhist Services, Zen Training and the ability to exercise their 1st Amendment Rights to practice their Buddhist Faith. His services are extremely popular and the Buddhist phenomenon is exploding here on post!
I met this guy!! He was with me while I was on my way to deploy in 2010, and we had some pizza together when waiting to leave. He is an amazing person, and would love to come in contact with him again.
Buddhist don't have to kill in the military. They can serve as cooks, janitors, chaplins, medical personnel, administration officers...There are plenty of non-combat jobs in the military.

Hi enemabandita,
Chaplains offer personal and religious support to Servicemembers and their scope of practice far exceeds the perimeters of their faith. In regards to Chaplains being used as tools of the DOD mission, (there may be some, of course) I think of it this way; when a Soldier is being fired at and fearing for his life every day, do you think any self-respecting Chaplain would offer him anything but personal, heartfelt spiritual support when he comes in for Sunday worship?
