Ive begun to lose my hearing and in a couple of years i will be completely deaf. Ive been listening to this song on repeat, committing every note to memory so that when that day comes, I can play this beautiful song in my new silent world.
Would you believe there's actually NO guitar on this track? The guitar-ish sound you're referring to starting at 3:08 is actually a monophonic synthesizer? The Midnight use this same solo-synth technique throughout their catalog. Not to say they never use real guitar, but this track is ALL synth.
Synthwave makes me feel nostalgic to a previous life I remember nothing about, a place in some parallel universe I never visited before, a person I loved but never met before.
Right on!! I'm listening to this music, minding my own business, waiting at the bus stop and a wave of emotions about people and situations I've never experienced washes over me.. Intense but beautiful!!
The Midnight is probably the best and most amazing musical find I've discovered in the last 20 years. I'm in my late 40's and aware of all the music greats of the last 50 years or so. Among my favorite artist and groups are Prince, Def Leppard, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Journey, George Michael/Wham!, Phil Collins, Savage Garden and many more, I wish some of them would have made more music like this. The Midnight have got the heart, soul and 'feels' in their music.
what's funny to me is some of this new music that takes very heavy inspiration from the past, is actually better than much of what it was inspired by. There was some great music to be sure, but quite of lot of older tunes that my parents listened to (60's 70's and 80's), even including those that still get radio play and are considered classics, have absolutely terrible lyrics (nonsensical or just bad or uninspired), or crap vocals or any number of failings. I guess just being and new and cool to young people at the time was enough. not saying all of today's music is better, far from it!
I was born April 1990, 4 months after the 80s finished.. how’s that 😂. My dad got me into 80s hard rock/metal, my mum obviously listened to lighter stuff. But I also love this synth wave genre, reminds me of all those 80s teen movies, even some of the sci-fi movies like Bladerunner and Terminator
If you ever buy the Midnight's albums, the inscriptions will tell you their concept is to make you feel a desire to return to "the good days" that you never actually experienced and probably never existed except in your mind. It's not that the 80s sounded like this or people all lived the way the song lyrics make them out to have lived, but you are to think that a time like this existed before, and you wish you could live in it even though you never will.
Because the awesomeness was beyond capacity and has spilled over to future generations. Those of us that were there and still here are left to both rejoice and mourn the era when the world peaked lol
It was almost a thing! Look up Nightride FM. It’s a radio station that, for whatever reason, didn’t make it into the final cut of the game. There’s some fantastic stuff on there.
I grew up in the 80s and love 80s music. My 3 kids love 80s music. So believe me when i say that The Midnight is the BEST band i have ever heard by far. Why is this not on every radio station in America??
This song at 1:30am just hits differently. It makes you contemplate your entire life and history wondering what you would change and/or keep the same. I love you all x
This album art really speaks to me. It immediately brings the feelings of being in a mall in Florida in the 80s, July or August. It's hot an oppressively humid outside, but here you get the chill of the A/C on your sun-kissed face and exposed arms and legs. You have the comfort of a familiar place but the listlessness of a high-school summer; the cold of the air but the heat from being out in the sun. Satisfaction of time to kill, yet an undercurrent of anxiety as you know that the summer will eventually come to an end and school will pick back up. You see your friends lounging on some benches nearby. You want to go to them but your crush is there and a flush starts to creep in. The air is cold but you're hot again. It's time to make a move...you've been waiting for this...

As malls become obsolete. I continue to go to them listening to this music. I sit down under the clear glass like roofs. A storm brews out side, longing for the love of my life that never comes. As the neon lights of stores flicker their last before shutting down forever to never return to offer the joy they once did. So to dose my hope for what I long for. Just like the show that I present to the world I must go on.
Genius sound, music and lirycs. Now I'm lost in my 1984...I was 13 yo. Well beautiful feelings, dreams comes today to me as I listening this song. I realise I feel something like ...love at a first sight ! I jump to my car and drive a few hours while listening your music. Wow...neons, C64, VHS, Delorian, my God. A time travel! Thank you The Midnight.
I was able to share endless summer with my father while he was on hospice. it brought him back to remember his teenage years and being a kid and it was something we both jammed out to when he died it took me a while to want to listen the midnight again.eventually i decided to just feel what i was going to feel and try to face the finality that ill never have those times with him again until i listened to the kids album i began to realize why i love these retrowave vibes of nostalgia from an era i never experienced. we were able to make fond memories with this and the sound of past memories and sharing the same feeling with a cycle of remembrance and created an ouroboros cycle of love and fond memories of a time past. does it hurt sometime sure, but i value them engraved in the fiber of my soul. ill see you again pops in some way shape or form well repeat the cycle. this has so much more meaning than i could have imagined... There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass-the aching awareness of impermanence. I came of age in the 80's. This song so beautifully captures that time. I actually thought this song was from the 80's when I first heard it. Met the woman of my dreams and married her in the 80's; still married to her. "We were young once, then we grew old, we were shining, we were fools gold." The Midnight are my new favorite band.
This song helped me through my divorce, through the guilt of moving on to my next partner after it was over. We barely knew each other, but when we kissed "in the dark there were no strangers at all". My past marriage was such a beautiful dream in my youth, "but we were young once, but then we grew old, we were shining, we were fools gold. Hold me until I'm not lonely anymore."
It is amazing what a song can do to a human being. I'm not from the 80's and I remember all the memories I never had of a time that I didn't live. Beautiful.
Wow, nice comment loved it! I was 2-12 in the 80s, saw Back to the Future at a drive in movie theater in 1985. I can remember the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Challenger Explosion like they occurred yesterday!
My 14 year old son bought us VIP tickets in Bend, Oregon a couple of weeks ago. We got to see the first 3 songs from backstage. I still can't believe it. It was incredible.
A lot of you who barely lived at all through the 80s are still exposed to a lot of us who actually lived through the entire decade. So in a way, our nostalgia becomes yours. Or at least, that's how I think it works.
Though I was born in 87, the music, films and television of the 80s were still part of my childhood. So it makes sense that I am nostalgic about the 80s because it was a big part of my childhood.
That's true, i never lived at the 80s, but my brothers LPs was just 80s music till today. I get a lot of nostalgia from them, and after i found synthwave, i only listen to this genre every day.
I had slowly lost all hope for contemporary music over the last 10 years, but The Midnight changed that. I'm so grateful for finding them about a year ago. At least there's one band out there making music worth listening to. Looking forward to seeing you live at the Fonda in September!
It sort of says something when the thing that renews your hope for contemporary music is a genre that exists as a throwback to music that isn't contemporary anymore, right?
Bandcamp is the best for discovering new music. There hasn’t been anything really since the 80s-90s that wasn’t explicitly retro in some way. Grunge was mostly Recycled Zepplin/classic rock riffs, Britpop was Beatles and Kinks, today’s EDM is rehashed disco.
Most people prefer pop songs which sounds bad and all that weeds and dope stuffs. You start at the beginning called indie. If your songs finally got recognized you will then eventually become famous.
The purest 80's song that was after it's time! I appreciate this band/song more than I could ever express. Pure perfection. Always embrace the vibe, it will outlast all of us
I was privileged to discover the song Lost Boy ... Today is my personal soundtrack !!! What a beautiful song, what an absolutely incredible thing !! I put the music on a flash drive, started my car, sound at most, on the highway, a real trip !!! Thank you!!! In fact, all his productions are incredible !!!
I loved the music of the eights. Imagine my delight to find songs from "The Midnight" and other groups that brought the music of the eighties into the 21st century, and not just cover versions, but songs that could have appeared in the eighties, but did not. Magic.
@@davidbrisbane7206 I was born on December 26, 1970. I went through all the phases of the 80's songs. Imagine how I miss this decade when I hear these songs ... Only those who lived that decade as intensely as I did, you know and feel what I feel. It is a true return to the 80s !!! They were and remain incredible !!!
Finally! Right when i think Tim and Tyler cant possibly get any better yall drop this. Thank you guys so much for making such amazing music. I cant wait for the day I will finally be able to see yall live
Daft93' i know they will hit Florida soon enough. Ive been a fan Tyler Lyle for years now so him and Tim doing this 80s masterpieces is just everything I need
This transcends 80's. It's like taking the 80's, breaking it apart, and making a masterpiece. So underrated. Thank you for your work. You're appreciated in the music world. x
Dude this song is so powerful. I feel so many conflicting emotions all at once. A sea of memories and emotions come crashing towards me. Im swimming in the water not knowing if I'm happy or sad. I can't stop listening..
Like someone said on another video; this is not an homage to the 80's, this IS the 80's. Truly genuine, truly inspirational and truly evoking emotions of a time I never experienced.
This song hits a deep part of our soul and 80s children have lived long enough to have suffered in this life. While it is cathartic to reminisce about better times the song also invokes a sort of nihilistic feeling that the best days are behind us. Ask yourselves why the need to embrace in the dark? The dark hides flaws and imperfections. It feels safe. I believe there's a reason that many haven't considered and that is that we feel hopeless knowing we've experienced enough life to realize the suffering isn't necessarily going to get better or go away. My fellow brothers and sisters in the flesh if the above describes how you feel then know that it is an experience of a spiritual construct keeping you enslaved in despair. But, what is needed to break out of this construct is courage to face your fears. To let go of your desires. To die to yourself (ego) and embrace the fire of suffering for a season. When you do you will realize that your mind, body and soul have been trapped into an apathetic existence and the imminence of death is ever more present in your subconscious. I encourage you all to take heart, embrace a spirit of courage, press into life's trials in order to learn regardless of the suffering and seek truth in love. Love is not a feeling. It is wanting the greatest good for someone else and doing whatever you are able to enable that reality in their life. A person who is loving lives their lives for the benefit of others which causes a person to seek knowledge and wisdom for the benefit of others. It is "walking in the light." Embracing in the dark is easy and safe but it is also weak and brings death. Come into the light and you'll find that birds of a feather flock together. You will find others who've done the same and joy and hope will replace nihilism and despair. So, enjoy the song. But, realize that this season of life is dead and clinging to the corpse of the past will not lead to life in the future. Grace and Peace be with you all in abundance.
The summer is just beginning. The lights of the game screens cut like swords through the dark arcade. You lean casually against the cabinet, watching as your best friend scrambles against time to beat his own high score. It's late now, and the arcade closes soon. This is the best run he's had. The 8-bit sounds, the soft pink glow: these are no match for her when she walks around the other edge of the cabinet. Your eyes widen. Your breathing halts. "Five minutes till we close, guys." She smiles. Like your friend's avatar, you're utterly slain. You say nothing, but your mouth falls open slightly. She notices. She raises an eyebrow, pauses. A new gentle smile. A hand through perfect hair. "We open at 9 tomorrow. See you guys then?" She looks right at you. "Maybe?" Then she is gone. And so, it is clear, are you. But the summer...the summer is just beginning.
The effects of this music are simply amazing. Thank you for giving me such pleasant nostalgia from an era I didn't even take part in. Long live the 80's!
[Verse 1] We were the monsters and fire-breathers We were the quiet sunrise leavers You were a good girl, what could I do? Thank you isn’t enough for this. You guys are amazing artists and I am truly proud to be a fan. Continue making magic guys, and I’ll continue to listen!!
No they dont, because they will get too commercial and you know, money change people. And I dont want them to become something like despacito bullshit or whatever the shiit that played on your local radio 24/7.

This is amazing. I almost have no words to describe how good i feel by listening to this song. You guys have Tyler Lyle's song remixed, "Lost & Found" - and last thing i expected (but hoped) was that Norwegian radio channels would play that song. I was driving my car home from work that evening, and when i heard the song i had to double check whether my phone was connected or not - and then i realised it was you guys. Live on norwegian radio. I am glad i had closed my windows and stopped at a busstop, because i was screaming of happiness, even cried i was so happy. Then I had to film my radio just to get it on tape, that you were live. I've been following you guys since you almost were new - and I sincerely hope that more of your songs comes on radio, so I can have more of my overly obsessed moments of joy hearing you being played. See you in Oslo in february!
This song is my favorite song at the moment. It reminds me of when I met my Fiance and I was literally "lost" at the time and she fell in love with me at my worst time and was so supportive. Thank you The Midnight this sound really touched me.
I’m an 80s baby and The Midnight has the magical ability of taking me back to those days. Their music is like what should have naturally come after the 80s new wave era. But, when instead the 90s were a fucking mess musically and this never surfaced. Now, we finally get new wave revolution
cant you picture yourself staring at the girl of your dreams in a dimly lit club and feeling her come closer as you tremble before she holds you tight and whispers in your ear that everything right now, right here is perfect. MELT
Patrick D No idea man! I’m kinda assuming there’s an album on its way just because they dropped this but I could be wrong. Sorry for being misleading 🙈
Lost Boy really can bring the emotions out of you when you listen to the lyrics of the song. I first heard the instrumentals of most songs when I first got into this group. Then after this song, Vampires and other great, I love the music soooo much more. I wish I found The Midnight sooner in life
I've never lost anything precious but music still gets me like that. Some people's hearts really just can't be touched by things like this and they just can't understand.
When I listen to this song I feel my existence n love my life even more than before. Music of this band is unbelievable n pure. One the all time favorite song
I wont say that things in the 80s were better than now , thats subjective however things were a bit more relaxed or at least it seemed that way . I remember riding in my older sisters car with no seat belts while she drove much faster down the road than the suggested speed ,Duran Duran blaring from the cassette player and the giddy feeling of excitement of going to the local theater , I remember playing with my neighborhood friends , riding our bikes all over the place , staying out till after dark . I remember all the cool T.V. shows like Miami Vice and Saturday morning cartoons and American Band Stand . Listening to Rick Dees weekly top 40 on Sunday . I mostly remember the seemingly eternal summers and my friend Lisa "I miss you buddy" . I guess we will never know if things in the 80s were better but my memories tell me that perhaps what I had then was .
The intro is so magical.. Imo this is the best intro I've ever heard.. Till date.. Sometimes I feel like the intro is more than enough.. Its like I'm blabbering nonsense.. But idk this is indescribable
This song on a walkman would be so lit and soothing
I used to had it in my sony walkman

@@josiahshaver9423 Wow, I didn't know that! Well that's quite a skill to lay down such a great solo using the keyboard.
Sounds like a synth played through a guitar amp, add some distortion and voila.

That... that hit harder than I expected that to.
Same. I thought even now at 44, survivor of a life that should have turned my heart to stone...
Damn it it hits hard
that is exactly the line that made me fall in love with this song.
It's the vocal pitch Hz. The Midnight uses a certain Hz pitch in like all of their songs.
Totally ⭐⭐⭐🔥🔥🔥🔥

Try Gunship if you haven't yet. Both the Midnight and Gunship go hand and hand for me
I wasn't even alive at the time, but why do I feel nostalgia to the 80s
I think these sounds give us the impression that most people of this era embraced life with full heart, and we desire to return.

We barely knew each other, but when we kissed "in the dark there were no strangers at all". My past marriage was such a beautiful dream in my youth, "but we were young once, but then we grew old, we were shining, we were fools gold. Hold me until I'm not lonely anymore."
nice
"Cause in the dark there are no strangers, there are no strangers at all."
'He was an asshole, was an asshole...he was an asshole. When I met you.'
I think about screaming this with the entire crowd when I get to go see them every time I listen to this.
“We young once, but we grew old, we were shining, we were fools gold”
As an 80s baby that f hits hard 😓
+1
I just went to their concert in berlin just 2 days back......and it wasss amazinggg listening to them live. I feel blessed :)
My 14 year old son bought us VIP tickets in Bend, Oregon a couple of weeks ago. We got to see the first 3 songs from backstage. I still can't believe it. It was incredible.
OMG sooo lucky!!!
I have been listening to music my entire life. However, this song (until the first chorus) has one of the best openings I have ever heard.
I'm blown away by this music. I don't know how, but it takes me right back to my 80s/90s childhood. So incredibly emotional I want to burst.
I never understood the thing about being nostalgic about era you barely reach by your lifetime, yet I fall for it every time.
A lot of you who barely lived at all through the 80s are still exposed to a lot of us who actually lived through the entire decade. So in a way, our nostalgia becomes yours. Or at least, that's how I think it works.
fair words, sir.
Your voice when you say "Hold me till I'm not lonely anymore" makes me drop to my knees 💔
The lyrics effectively has delineated the "lost boy" in EVERY man until he is lucky enough to meet his soul mate. Well done. X
This song makes me want turn back time to the 80's. It is so freakng good
We need a own Radio Show with this music worldwide.
Berserker Cookie Great point!
Its only for blessed people
@PancakeWeek90 yeah, great idea.
Theres tons of good music out there just mine deeper to find the gems
Bandcamp is the best for discovering new music. There hasn’t been anything really since the 80s-90s that wasn’t explicitly retro in some way. Grunge was mostly Recycled Zepplin/classic rock riffs, Britpop was Beatles and Kinks, today’s EDM is rehashed disco.
How is this not the number one song in the world?
gbinct cause the world is a fucked up place :(
It is in our heart 🤝
Most people prefer pop songs which sounds bad and all that weeds and dope stuffs. You start at the beginning called indie. If your songs finally got recognized you will then eventually become famous.
@@Jomuerudoumandanberarumino exactly. But there are good pop songs out there. But 99% is trash.
Because people prefer to listen to shit
This song should have billions of views, share it please so everyone else can feel the atmospheric moments
Discovered The Midnight earlier this week, this song is the anthem this decade NEEDS.
That and America 2. SUCH GREAT MUSIC
Finally! Right when i think Tim and Tyler cant possibly get any better yall drop this. Thank you guys so much for making such amazing music. I cant wait for the day I will finally be able to see yall live
I have had the honor to see them in SF and NY and honestly it will change your life.. such brilliance and such energy
Daft93' i know they will hit Florida soon enough. Ive been a fan Tyler Lyle for years now so him and Tim doing this 80s masterpieces is just everything I need
They are coming to England in March 2019 and I managed to get tickets. I am so excited!
Another splendid musical representation of what it was like to live in the 80s. Forever love to you the midnight.
It is "walking in the light."
Embracing in the dark is easy and safe but it is also weak and brings death.
"Maybe?"
Then she is gone. And so, it is clear, are you.
But the summer...the summer is just beginning.
Jason Millhouse i think you just wrote the music video
Wow...that was beautiful🖒🖒
"God I wish that were me"
this perfectly matches the song
AAAARGH!!!!!! the PAST!!!!!!!!!!
The effects of this music are simply amazing. Thank you for giving me such pleasant nostalgia from an era I didn't even take part in. Long live the 80's!
[Verse 1]
We were the monsters and fire-breathers
We were the quiet sunrise leavers
You were a good girl, what could I do?
I was a lost boy when I met you
[PreChorus]
Hold me til I’m not lonely anymore
It’s only the crashing of the ocean to the shore
[Chorus]
'Cause in the dark there are no strangers
There are no strangers at all
'Cause in the dark there are no strangers
There are no strangers at all
I was a lost boy when I met you
[PostChorus]
I was a lost boy, was a lost boy
I was a lost boy when I met you
I was a lost boy, was a lost boy
I was a lost, there are no strangers anymore
I was a lost boy, was a lost boy
I was a lost boy when I met you
I was a lost boy, was a lost boy
I was a lost, there are no strangers anymore
Zarzari Khawlhring I uih 😂🤣🤣
Zarzari Khawlhring nice work👍👍
Thank you for your service!
Best
I love how in the comments for a video for a song like this, everyone starts waxing poetic.
Nostalgia and longing are powerful drugs.
This reminds me of the 80’s. The most beautiful decade. After all of the BS these days, I really miss that time.
AESTHETIC
The Founding Fathers VERY😋
NICE.
Wrong genre
Honestly 😍
O O F
You get Bands and you get Genius Artists. Sometimes you're born with exceptional talent. The Midnight has that talent.
Wow, they did it again! I've got that feeling of being back in the 80's. Thank you, The Midnight!
This music can only be described as "Magic", an alternative, but better vesion of 80s music. Much appreciated.
This music beyond words can explain
Thank you isn’t enough for this. You guys are amazing artists and I am truly proud to be a fan. Continue making magic guys, and I’ll continue to listen!!
Ian Cooper well said !
The Midnight is killin it! I feel like this is music I should've always been listening to.....
These guys deserve such a bigger following.
No they dont, because they will get too commercial and you know, money change people. And I dont want them to become something like despacito bullshit or whatever the shiit that played on your local radio 24/7.
@@kazecaptor9777 i wish they would not end up like that we need quality music with substance on it in these troubled we live in
The midnight and Gunship, two of my fav bands at the moment.
Will Drane No but ill check them out. Thanks

Don't sit in the dark regretting what might happen. Don't worry about what hasn't happened yet. Go out there and live. It's your only hope.
This music deserve to be heard in a amazing pair of headphones.
Flawless... Direct from the ears to my heart. Many thanks.
The intro is the most nostalgic inducing feeling I have ever had.
This is the First song I have heard in 30 years that makes me feel those feelings i felt growing up in the 80s. AMAZING!!! Should be a number 1 Hit
This song is my favorite song at the moment. It reminds me of when I met my Fiance and I was literally "lost" at the time and she fell in love with me at my worst time and was so supportive. Thank you The Midnight this sound really touched me.
Sax or no sax, The Midnight makes incredible music!
Finally. ♥ This Band made my vocational college time. each learning before a class test. each drive after a party. Thank you so much guys.
Still on repeat on my spotify, just created my personal favourites by the midnight ❤
This is still my favorite midnight track, incredible.
I love this one and Synthetic is pretty big for me too
1 hour out and already on repeat, amazing retro tune!
This song is very touchy. Very good beat and vibes. I had this played on a 12' subwoofer, amp and tweeters. I play this song almost everyday!!!!
I just can't get enough of this song, it's fantastic...tremendous band.💜
I’m an 80s baby and The Midnight has the magical ability of taking me back to those days. Their music is like what should have naturally come after the 80s new wave era. But, when instead the 90s were a fucking mess musically and this never surfaced. Now, we finally get new wave revolution
Where have they been all of this time?
It’s not just that there are no bad Midnight songs. It’s that every single one is a masterpiece.
cant you picture yourself staring at the girl of your dreams in a dimly lit club and feeling her come closer as you tremble before she holds you tight and whispers in your ear that everything right now, right here is perfect. MELT
I need a radio in GTA of themidnight
My mind is blown on how amazing this is
3:08 😍 my favourite part of the song, that sound is just amazing and the song is amazing ❤
I was a lost boy before the Midnight 🎆
That final chorus 🎸🎸🤗🤗 So so good! I can’t wait for the album to drop!
GinGer Liam have u heard when it is... cause they just released nocturnal.
Patrick D No idea man! I’m kinda assuming there’s an album on its way just because they dropped this but I could be wrong. Sorry for being misleading 🙈
Magical song
The intro melody gets me every single time! So Pure!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lost Boy really can bring the emotions out of you when you listen to the lyrics of the song. I first heard the instrumentals of most songs when I first got into this group. Then after this song, Vampires and other great, I love the music soooo much more. I wish I found The Midnight sooner in life
Amazing voice tyler and the music OMG very nice song
Will Drane I totally agree with you my friend
Will Drane tyler have amazing voice men
You know that moment when you listen to sheer perfection and you start sobbing uncontrollably?
Yeah.
*That just happened...*
you might need a new therapist.
I take their side if you've never lost something precious you wouldn't understand
Some people just love music to a level other people dont understand. I almost cried to because of how amazing this song is. I'm with ya!
I've never lost anything precious but music still gets me like that.
Some people's hearts really just can't be touched by things like this and they just can't understand.
Wish I could still cry, because I would be probably
When I listen to this song I feel my existence n love my life even more than before. Music of this band is unbelievable n pure.
One the all time favorite song
Perfect instruments, beautiful sintetizares pads, textures , drums.
Love this song so much
bbbritishboy official can't stop listening to it
Sei un grande stupido bibbi
L'ho trovato nella tua playlist

The intro is so magical.. Imo this is the best intro I've ever heard.. Till date..
