Who ever is listening to this song right now. Your music taste is great
♥
Great song aye!!
There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass - the aching awareness of impermanence. These are the days that we will return to one day in the future only in memories.
- The Midnight
Well said! So beautiful phrase it is.
That’s a beautiful quote.
It has to be one of the most beautiful phrases ever.
My heart. :( 👍
...or in the virtual.
There’s something so unapologetically magical about this music. It always lifts my spirits and helps me remember life isn’t all bad.

Yes this always lifts my spirits. Synthwave is such an amazing genre!
Unrelated, since when did Mordecai become so ripped? He reminds me of a JoJo character.
Same feeling buddy!
Couldn't have said it better myself!
This band has honestly changed my life.
😃
A world where these guys have not been all over TV is NOT a meritocratic one.

Nothing better than The Midnight after a rough day
Thank you for existing !
Daniela Arechiga have a good rest you're so cute as if this song was made for ya 😊
Seriously super long day at work this is much needed 🤘🏻
I just did a marathon lol
Seriously, ever so truer words.
Daniela Arechiga Agreed. There is nothing like The Midnight for the drive home from work.
At the concert in London, Tyler gave a beautiful piece before this song played. He said something like "when the world has come out of it's current crazy period, I hope whatever happens, we come out of it with more kindness and understanding for the working class everywhere".
Bucket list band for me. Hope you enjoyed the hell out of that experience. I will
Love this
They’re trying to make it as hard as possible. Evil sick fucks. But we persevere, and will always make things good regardless how hard things become ❤
Jesus Christ ❤
America is for the poor huddled masses no human is illegal❤
This song brings back memories I never had.
Same here.
I feel the exact same way, it gives me a 90s vibe even though I don’t know what the 90s was like but I feel like I’ve been there, a strange nostalgia indeed
A good story has a powerful affect on us humans
@@tokyosen5717 same here too my man
Dude I was literally describing the same thing!!
I wanna live in a world as aesthetic as these images that’s full of incredible music like this.
SwordBreaker925 we do
Where is my neon soaked night drive with a scorpion leather jacket then? I can't find my fingerless gloves, my rear engine cherry red car NOR my high rise apartment with hologram 75 feet dancing women and advertisements outside my window. LIES I TELL YOU LIES YOU TELL.
yes yes yesss
Well..don't we all buddy? The very reason songs like these click is because we crave for something that won't ever be :) . By the way I'm waiting for america 2 as well, a post invasive, a more humbler, a more connected to the roots type of america, a place which used to inspire many.
Meee tooo :((((((((((
The Midnight can literally do no wrong. One of the most consistently amazing bands in the genre.
Yes, together with FM-84, Timecop1983 and maybe Robert Parker or .. ruclips.net/p/PLGc0tZZeugwM7otNXNbM0A3hpgKPklWUF
Anonymous Pro you have fm attack for retromance too
What do you mean? FM Attack isn't in the same league if you ask me.
Yeah Timecop1983 is fantastic! I've only heard some FM-84, and I don't know the other, I'll have to check em out
Justin Dye Yeah! That “When you grow up, your heart dies” song from Gunship is brutal!
Lyrics...
I made my home in a ten-ton bomb
And I was so happy with 28 years of free fallin’
But now it’s all guts and I’m bawlin'
She was born in a tenement walk-up
With shit for nerves, you know she never learned to talk to adults
She said ‘everything's easier in here’
Like the dancer with bruises who gathers the cash
When the music is through, no she don’t look back
I’ve come to look for America too
All I ever wanted was a spot in the mountains
With an a-frame cabin and nobody counting our days
Or cursing or praising our name
But the best we could do is to enter the void
Like a wide-eyed child waking up to the noise of East Harlem
Don’t they see that we’re starving?
Like the dancer with bruises who gathers the cash
When the music is through no she don’t look back
I’ve come to look for America too
And we stole the car on the 4th of July
I pawned my guitar and we drove through the night
I’ve come to look for America too
...and of course, thank you guys for the music.
I dont understand why this song makes me so emotional.
Maybe because it mourns the loss of the ideal that was the America Simon and Garfunkel sang about, instead there is poverty and hopelessness, the American Dream has died somewhere along the way

Cause is good
This cover art bears a close resemblance to a shopping mall my mother used to take me to on the weekends during the early 90's. It had tons of natural light streaming in from glass ceilings, similar coloring and styling to this image, palm trees and plants, and actually had a pizza place (Sbarro) right next to the arcade, which also had those warped glass panels very similar to the ones shown here. Even my younger brother said the same thing when I showed him the artwork. In later years, the mall began an irreversible decline until it was little more than a ghost town with a handful of shops. They finally closed it late last year. It was one of those emblems of a simpler time that I sometimes wish I could return to.
Looking at this image after having long since lost count of the times I've listened to this album, it just reminds me of the ways I relate to the themes in Kids, and makes me want to go look for my own America 2... knowing we'll never recapture what we've lost. Still, I'm thankful for all those memories from a simpler time, some of which include pizza by the arcade. Thanks The Midnight for creating a way for us to step back in time, if only for a few minutes at a time.
Your story touched me. Thank you for sharing.
Great story man, really touching indeed. There was a simpler time during the 80s and 90s, I would never trade my childhood during that timeframe for nothing and like you, I wish I could return to it again, even for a little while. That is why The Midnight is such a great band, it connects on a personal level and transports you to another time, where the nostalgia hits hard.
One of the best songs by The Midnight. it fascinates me the huge amount of comments about the "uplifting" values of the song, where it's clearly a very sad song about a bright past that perhaps was just a mirage and never existed and the sad reality we live in... it's called "America 2" in reference to Simon & Garfunkel's "America" song, but it could truly be called "World 2", it's a universal theme across every country on Earth these days. Within that sad context it's immensely beautiful, and the stark contrast between the deeply sad lyrics and the synthwave beats and production elevates its message even higher. The 80s was truly the apex of happy Earth vs. today's bleak and consumed Earth. A masterpiece. But not really the blissful upbeat song many happen to see here. Reflect on the lyrics, thrive for a better world for all.
Agreed. It's about the illusion of the "American dream" and how living and "making it" in America isn't the end of all your problems. Because that dream isn't really attainable by those who want it most. And while the sound is dancey and fun, the lyrics carry the weight.
I've fallen in love with this group, for me, they capture what Retrowave is all about better than anyone. I hope this never ends.
Thank you i never knew what this genre was called. I just called it The Midnight Genre. Retrowave.
@@gabodee the midnight sounds like a great genre name though to be honest lol
I recently read something about how folks stop falling in love with new musical acts around middle age. I don't know if that's the reason, but this is the last musical act I've liked like this much, and as far as I'm concerned, it's a well-earned honor.

The artwork and the amazing lyrics of America 2 by The Midnight are the emblem of melancholy for having lost something we loved and hoping we can have it back sooner or later.
Pile333@ It is not a sad song about loss if you ask me. It is a love story about a young couple who both grow up in rough circumstances, but especially the girl who is more than likely a stripper maybe? I am not sure what Tyler Lyle means by " like the dancer with bruises who gathers the cash". All I know is she has made her mind to get out of her situation and to chase after the american dream and the ideal of freedom with her boyfriend. So they steal one of there parents car's on independence day and the boyfriend sells off his guitar for gas money to drive as far way from the bad old life and past as possible all through the night. Chasing those ideas of the American dream and freedom. Its about a young couple running away for the bad past the only thing they have is their love and the hope of a better future.
I think its both really. It's happy for the reasons you've stated. But also a melancholic, looking back at the happy times, with the sort of sad fondness for things that are no longer around or things that you have experienced.
Both the music and lyrics have a positivity for the future, with tinge of melancholy of what could have happened or what is to happen. To me anyway.
Yeah, based on the information they've provided, this and the whole album seems to be focused on reminiscing the younger days.
@@DrnMontemayor well in that case I think so far theyre spot on! XD

OMG what a beautiful song. Now hearing this song i want to go to America so desperately. I feel sad for the 9/11 attacks. Love from India. Long live THE GREAT AMERICA.
This song is deeply addictive.
Why is your music always so perfect??
Because they had a vision of what they want to make and they did it with love. That's how pretty much all good things in a world was created.
its art
Sweet Jesus, how have I lived all this while without knowing y'all. You are a blessing, please don't stop creating music. Lots of love from Malaysia
i thought i'm the only one here from malaysia. Keep on synthwaving my dude.
The Midnight, if you ever read this comment, just know that you are one of the best bands ever in music industry. And that PLEASE never stop giving us these WONDERFUL songs.
We LOVE YOU! 💓
First few lines....already my favorite Midnight song. Being 28 and meeting a certain someone who is out of my life this hit me so hard I had to leave the bar to listen to it on stereo and jam out like it's 1988
Guillermo Moreno i hope you get her, man. (or him? or whoever haha) but if you don't...life still tends to surprise you in the most unexpected of ways :)
onarionaa when the music is through no she don't look back
...I've come to look for America too
onarionaa Yeah, surprises like growing bold, ugly, fat and in debt and waking up one day smelling like vodka next to Ronda, asking yourself; “wtf happened!?” Go for it now my friend, time is ticking!!!
Quite agree my favourite song as well, but Sunset is not far behind
MOST UNDERRATED BAND !!!!!!
Beautiful and clean blue sky and clean water. And a time when people had bright smiles and hope and joy to be able to do anything... I can't forget those days even now. Images of those memories in a hidden warehouse beyond my memory.
You guts are my favorite musical group

love the Midnights guts.
You've got a lot of guys to say something like this.
It takes guys to enjoy these guts...

Reminds of the episode of Duckman, where he goes searching for "America". Touching episode really. Miss that show.
This band will be in the hall of fame. Mark my words
I never heard some really great music, like this group in my 27 years of life
I noticed that the scene is the same as "Lost Boy" just from a different angle/perspective. Hope to see more song covers like this - its so interesting!
And of course, the song is a amazing as usual. I just love and adore The Midnight and every song that is put out of a pure 10/10 and there is never a bad song from these guys!
I was born shortly after the 1980s, but your music helps fill my imagination of what my childhood and teen years could have been like. Lovely music.
One of the best choruses in your entire discography. Impossibly catchy.
Now that is one of the reasons why I'm grateful for life 💫
I know you wonderful folks will never read this but I love you I'm so happy for you and all your success you truly deserve it
Listening to this magnificent music, while staring at the picture, I can only imagine what kinds of stories and events happened around this now abandoned mall, back in the time when it was the hotspot around the town, like that PizzaZone shop next to the entrance. The sign says "Permanently Closed", and there's a few tables left outside, like mute witnesses of the glorious past this place had. Maybe lots of happy hours right after school happened there, friends got together and had happy chats about this cool new cartoon, or that terrific pair of sneakers from Nike, or how that new Ghostbusters movie was awesome to watch in the big screen. Maybe young couples went there to celebrate their teenage love with some slices o' pepperoni and Coca-Cola. I can imagine many of the customers hit the arcade next to it, to play some Asteroids, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Tron, and other kick-ass games... no worries about anything, because the future obviously was going to be bright and shiny, the good things of those days were going to be kept, after all, right? You just don't throw good things away like that, you keep them, learn to replicate them, right? Therefore, why care about a thing? That place was once the representative of our carefree times, long after the World Wars, and long before our modern crises. The '60s all the way up to the early '00s were like this: carefree, bright and blissful.
How I long for a future like my past.
Kids and America 2 are such a good back to back listen
I absolutely love the artwork for this album. It’s crazy nostalgic
If you wanna see more the artist is Aaron Campbell. They are so beautiful and awe inducing
"All I ever wanted was a spot in the mountains with an A-Frame cabin and nobody counting our days"
I seriously *Feel* that line
I have a really good feeling that their next album will be their best work so far without a doubt
It sounds like they're going back to the Endless Summer kind of feeling when you listen to their songs. Nocturnal was nice, but I just can't listen to it when it's bright outside, it's a stricte night-time album. Perfect for driving around downtown at night when it's raining.
This on the other hand, this just goes.
Its going to be amazing. I can't wait for GUNSHIPS new album too. I swear GUNSHIP, THE MIDNIGHT, and TIMECOP1983 are all amazing. Used to love futurecop! they are the reason I got into this genre but they kind of fell apart.
I think if these are tracks for the new album, they feel more like Days of Thunder, but with that more positive, nostalgic vibe of Endless Summer. While Endless Summer felt like something you'd drive past sunny beaches to, Nocturnal was like its dark counterpart, shared musical themes, but at night... Nocturnal is my favourite album of theirs so far though. Endless Summer comes a close second.
And in years kids will look back on this kind of music and feel nostalgic about a time they never had the luxury of knowing.
I take satisfaction in knowing that as I get older and time passes and I come closer to death that I am eternal. We all are. Our souls live forever. What a blessing it is to be “here” and experience this world. So much left to be experienced.
my top 3 songs from The Midnight
Driving on a curvy road on a motorcycle over the lake while listening to this song is what I live for. This song is a real tear jerker for me so beautiful

I got hip to The Midnight in January of 2020 and I swear I’ve played this one at least 1,000 times since
The artwork for these is absolutley amazing, am I right?!
80s eternos.
I'm happy I heard about this band. I might not have been born in the 80s, but with this music, I can imagine how life might have been back then.🥰🎸🎤🎤😎🇺🇸🤩💙💙😍🇺🇲💜❤🧡💚🎧
Listening to this over and over. Someone special introduced this song and band to me. Nostalgic!
I love driving through the night down here in south western California to The Midnight. These are the kind of moments I enjoy now yet someday I know I will miss it all forever

I truly believe The Midnight is not capable of making a bad song. Excellent work as always.

You just had Near-Death-Experience, friend.
Sweet name my dude! A favorite from my childhood.
They were phenomenal in Sacramento last night
I use this song to test speakers. One of the best sounding album from 2018, period.
The first song I heard from these guys
This sound always zaps me back in time. It's my go to music when I need to slow down and breathe. Please keep making music guys, the midnights early :)
My parents song is "America" by Simon and Garfunkel "we've all gone to look for America" but it makes me sad and sentimental to hear it now. This song, on the other hand, is a subtle shout out to nostalgia that fills me with PURE JOY.
I've loved EDM for a while, and still do. But this... this band just speaks to me. Brings me immense euphoric feelings. I love this band. The Midnight, please never stop making this kind of music. This is my favorite song by you thus far, while many others are a close second. Thank you for sharing your gift with us 🤍
The midnights answer to "If America is so great, how come there isn't an America 2"
I listen to this again after I’ve listened only a couple of times and it becomes my new favorite Midnight song! Every Midnight song is my favorite! How do they do this!
Loved the song and the Springsteen vibe.
It starts with them trapped in the badlands, waisting away.
While on the backstreets of jungleland, the bruised dancers collect the cash and dance to the record the dj plays.
They have romantic dreams about living in a cabin, on a mountain, beneath peaceful skies.
Finally on 4th of July they steal a car and head down thunder road. Driving all night in search of the land of hope and dreams.
Breaking out and chasing the promised land. Like many Springsteen characthers before.
Let's hope they all make it through the darkness on the edge of town and that the night will get them what they want.
some more gold, Thanks
Well, I come here just to say that I've been listening this music over and over and it remembers me SO MUCH of Mr. Robot. Man, it feels exactly the track for Elliot. So much feelings for that series, great memories!!!
Amazing music...
Just how our grand parents looked towards America as a place paved with gold roads and a escape from the reality they knew looking for a better future they moved their families there.
But over time the once Paradise is what we have today, the narrator looking for the new paradise to escape to and build a better life in a better place with the person he loves.
I related deeply with this, I've been with this same beautiful girl for 10 years all during that time we've been saving money and learning new languages as we plan our escape from here to a better place.
Thank you for the beautiful song every time I hear it I always reign in the moment to remember our future plans
I found this by chance on spotify and I’m glad I found it.
Oh man, they have done it again. This is just stunning.

It is weird that I am un-ironically saddened by the permanent closing of Pizza Zone.
