●Ashley's Mermaid Hair Color-
• ★ Mermaid Hair Color T...
"Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour - similar to what nature gives us as children - with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines."
Hair is a gorgeous and exciting process. I am so lucky that I get to do my passion for a living, and its days like these that make me sit back and be proud of the hard work and education that goes into a beautiful outcome. This process for taking Ashley back blonde was a 5 1/2 hour day that after it was all said and done, turned out just like we hoped. Maybe even better! I wanted to share the steps I took in getting her from faded mermaid hair, To the gorgeous color we have pictured at the top! I can't stress it enough to my clients and other hairstylist's, that a color correction takes time and patience. I try my hardest to get it right the first time, so when I approach hair it might be different then how others would do it. Thats the great part about being a stylist, we all have our own tricks and I love that I can share the ones I've learned and the methods I use.
●Tips on how to Fade Temporary Color-
1. Wash hair in hot water
2. Use a Clarifying Shampoo
3. Take a dip in the ocean/pool water
4. Make sure to use a good mask to keep your hair healthy while fading it out

DISCLAIMER:
As a professional stylist, I can’t recommend any drugstore products or recommend anyone to do their own hair at home. Professional Stylists have spent thousands of hours of education on the chemicals and techniques used to do hair. So as a licensed professional I do youtube videos for the purpose of sharing new techniques with people who are either in school or work as a stylist. Too many things can go terribly wrong, so as a liability problem I can only recommend to see a stylist who knows how to use the right products and the correct use of them. Thank you.
I am also a licensed/active cosmetologist and this is the BEST sombre shadow root video I have come across. Thank you for your help :)
Thank you for the disclaimer! As a cosmetologist I appreciate every one of your videos but it scares me when I see those comments saying "can I use box dyes to do this?" Or "what can I buy at Sally's to do this?"
Absolutely beautiful hair color as always:)
+Aly Smit I've been getting so many emails from people asking what to use at home and I decided it was time to really let people know that I am a PROFESSIONAL and never ever recommend anyone to do their own hair. If you don't understand the chemicals you shouldn't play with it ;)
+Alexsis Mae do you get complaints from clients, because of the disclaimer? An example being someone complains that you talk smack about box color because you want their money.
+Altyeyejetexsis Mae
+Jose Rivera I doubt it. No hairstylist in the history of ever would recommend that someone color their hair at home. The stuff in the box is not the same as the color and developer that we have.
Counter Couture Are you sure? My aunt once asked me to retouch her roots with a box color she uses at home. Of course, I was able to explain why I wasn't comfortable with box color. So are you sure our clients understand that hairstylists don't recommend box color?
This video taught me more in these few minutes than I learned in a year and half of cosmology school. (Technique wise) I've had my license for 5 years now. This is some of the best work I've seen.
+Brittany Lay thank you so much! We learn a lot on school but not advanced techniques like these! That's why we must always educate ourself 😉 "your not growing unless you're learning!"
+Alexsis Mae you're welcome. 😊 congrats on your new addition.
Rooty bright blonde is my favorite to do in the salon. Love the disclaimer at the beginning. A color like this should be left to the professionals for sure!
+Sara Wright mine too! It's so flattering with every style!
Alexsis Mae. great work im a Paul Mitchell colorist just gorg!
Alexsis Mae how much was it
This makes me want to cry watching this. Everyone wants this now. This is a lot of work. Holy crap! I'm really starting to hate my job.
Omg beautiful !!!! I loved how you explained exactly why you were doing and made it so easy to follow step by step ! I have been a cosmetologist for 5 years now and you showed me new professional techniques to use instead of cutting corners . Commend you for that girl thanks so much for Sharimg ! Can't wait to try this !!!!
Love that you are a perfectionist with your colors. Thats how I am to! The last salon I worked at the manager would always say dont take so much time with your colors and I just think I would rather take a little more time to have it perfect. In the end the client appreciates it. Who wants less then perfect hair, right?!
+Kelsey Ray I'm right there with you! As stylists we all have a right to do hair the way we artistically want to, it's what makes us the artists that we are. And I choose to take a bit more time and in the end my clients note that and appreciate it! As I'm sure yours do too!
You take your time with your client's hair and you are very precise. I value that a lot in a cosmetologist. You get beautiful results! It seems that some of them just want to rush you in and out, slap the product on your head, wash, and have you on your way. :/
+Leah Love ラブ yep, time is money. But for me, I like it done right and at my own pace so I know my clients have the hair I would want to walk out with!
+Alexsis Mae 😊👌🏻
Came across this video not even on purpose and it's perfect! I'm doing a balayage this week and you gave me some great tips! Thank you!!
+Jordynn Rudnicki that's awesome!!! Let me know how it turns out, and if anything has helped from watching this video 😄
As a hairstylist I would have to say this video helped me so much thank you
my cousin is a professional. and ive been learning from her. its a lot to learn at first but practice makes perfect !
+paseng lee that's the beautiful thing about hair, you never stop learning and growing. There is always something new and fun to learn!
I'm also a hairdresser however I have to see you're absolutely amazing! I learn so so much from you and I want to thank you so much for sharing! You definitely have saved me many times with these new techniques coming out.
+Robert Tagatz thank you so much. That's awesome that your learning so much ❤️
Thank you so much for such a detailed tutorial! I am a hairstylist and I'm always trying to figure out a way to do this all in one process, but this makes me know it's ok to take the time and do the base color separate!
+Alysia Merriman I'm really honest with my clients and let them know that when changing their hair color I would rather take my time and do it really well then try to skip a few steps and end up with something not as amazing. This of corse is my way of doing this process, and I like to take my time ;)
+Jennifer Betty Romero it is a hard thing to do! I like to take my time and make sure it's perfect 😉 thank you for watching, love having other hairstylist apart of my channel❤️
Scary endings, lol I love it! I love the idea of feathering the lowlight and leaving the ends lighter. Thank you for your videos. And congrats on your new little bundle of joy on the way.
+Clarissa Harrison Lol it puts it into perspective right??? I figured out the low light thing on my own hair, and it can make the biggest difference and keep the hair color from getting splotchy! Thank you so much :D
i did your technique and it worked beautifully! thank you so much. now my clients have the perfect sombres
+KaylenCheyenneBaxter ahhh that's so awesome thank you for sharing!
Oh my gosh! There is only ONE hair stylist I trust with my hair and she actually stopped doing hair so my hair is overgrown for about a year and a half now. The reason why I only trust her is because she actually understands not rushing and using lower volume developers and using processes. Since watching this video I now trust you withmy life! haha. I must have you do my hair!
+Amanda Ortega haha sometimes you just gotta take the time!
Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you! So glad I found your channel. It shall be my new obsession! Can't wait to try your techniques out in my clients, and watch more of your videos!
+Devin Anderson oh thank you so much, I am so flattered!!!🤗
You're my dream stylist, you know that right? 💕💖 Her hair looks gorgeous! 💕🐰🌷🌸💖
+Sun Soul Pancake Best compliment I could ever receive!!!! Thank you so so much!
This was so incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I'm doing this exact same thing today on one of my clients!!! ❤
That blonde hair in the end was amazing!!
+Deana Flanigan thank you!
Im a future hairstylist, im obsessed with these tutorials!
This is a great video! I love how many different ways there are to paint hair! the disclaimer at the start was great too, we go through so much education to know what we are doing and you need that foundation to execute a technique like this!
+Rachel Kane there are so many ways! And I use different ones depending on the desired color! It's fun to mix up techniques!
This video is perfection! I have a huge Color Correction tomorrow, (poor thing) and this is just what I needed to fix her hair. Thank you for showing us I hope to keep updated and get a video up of the correction soon.
this is what i want but no one gets it right!
+T Brown Your not the only one!
No one understands ASH tones!
+Zuzicka Peterkova unfortunately it's one of the hardest tones to achieve on hair and some people's hair can't handle going this light. But I love my ash tones and I'm one of those girls who always sees yellow in my own hair haha so I understand the ashy color 😉
All hairdressers understand ash tones, it's just that it is nearly impossible to achieve on some people's hair. I just finished lightening and toning my sister's hair from a level 3 to a level 9 and no matter how or what I try, she still gets a slightly yellow tone. Asian, African American, and Native American hair are also good examples of hair on which it is almost impossible to achieve an ash tone when going blonde.
your right, so people have red tones in their hair, so it's sure hard, even impossible to get cool/ash tones. But my natural hair is blonde with cool tones. But the hair dresses in Czech think they know best. So I have to do everything myself :D
Zuzana Peterková lol my hair is an ashy blond with warm tones (red, copper)
this was really helpful! I'm attending cosmetology school and this was an awesome process!
+Vanessa s.t best of luck girl!!!!
Alexsis Mae thank you!
The hair looked so beautiful at the end!
+Deana Noop Thank you!
Wow, this is the most informational tutorial I've ever seen! thank you!
+Benson Monroe thank you😘😘😘
Just find it satisfying also I'm dying my hair in the summer like August time and watching this has made me super excited!!!! SCHOOL IS ALMOST OVER FOR ME!!!!!!!! Wednesday 20th I'm out! Hair done.......YAAAAAAAAAY
This is so beautiful 😍 exactly what I want, but no one this talented in my area 😞
You are amazing. Awesome techniques and awesome examples with very professional filming
+Jordan Ramquist 🤗💗 you just made my day!!! Thank you so much!
Wow!!!! SO, so gorgeous!!! Love the coppery feel
good
The video was entertaining to watch, I love your work and the step by step commentary you provide. So inspiring, keep it up!
+Salem thank you for watching! And the kind words!
This is so perfect 💕 your client has the same colour as I have now, but I've been to 2 different hairdressers and they couldn't do it, one just made it look brassier and ruined my clip in hair extensions, the second dyed it all browny blue then whacked bleach on it and turned it yellow when I asked him why he dyed it that colour. I showed them both 3 pics of this exact colour 🙈 so its nice to know that this is not impossible.. The search continues for a stylist that can do a root stretch and uses vegan friendly dyes like Aveda etc... one day this will be my hair 🙏
So sorry to hear that, best of luck!
that hair color is gorgeous. is there any way I could hire you as my hairstylist?
This was awesome ! I never thought of doing a Mohawk section for Balyage ! So trying this ! Thank you love I get so bored doing the same thing over and over again
+Akeela1 2 it's the way I love to do it because I never get any harsh lines!
This blonde color is stunning!
+Anne Hansen thank you 😘💋💋💋
I love how easy this was to follow. Dying to try this out on a client
+Ashley Oberg best of luck!!!!
Absolutely loved this tutorial! so many helpful tips!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and techniques.
And I agree, the disclaimer is a great idea!
love love love this! you are so good at explaining all the steps! thank you!!
+Melissa Sabolcik thank you!!!
Beautiful! Can't wait to try this soon! Have a client that I can definitely use this technique on! Thanks, girl!
+GoldenCaramel96 oh so fun! Hope it works out well for you!
gorgeous. But why not color the base in between the highlights rather than cover them only to rehighlight them.
This is NOT for amateurs..she is a GREAT PRO, sharing her talent with other professionals. Even for an experienced stylist, this is a lot of work and skill. You need the knowledge to understand what you're using and why your using it.😘
It would also cost a lot of money, to purchase (if you can get it?) all the colours/tints/ toners/ hairlightners/peroxides and tools that she used....and that won't Guarantee you'll replicate it! You can use the cash you'd need to buy it all, to actually get it done professionally...source your salons...and have a HAPPY HAIR DAY! #Stephhairgallery in Spain.
+Stephanie Melendez amen!!! Professionals always!💋
I wish I could pay someone like you to do my hair like that, I have a disaster in my head triying to get something like this =(.... its so FREAKING GORGEOUS!!! what you do its amazing....
You are SO talented!! Seriously an inspiration!!
I absolutely LOVE this!!!!
Thank you ☺️
I love your videos, I learn so much from them!👍🏽💇🏽
+Karen Jess thank you! And thank you for the support!!!
This is the best color video I have ever seen 🤗
Awe thanks so much’
I love how you broke this color correction down and took all the extra steps to make it amazing!
Can you tell me more about what you mixed with the shades eq to get the thicker mixture?
+Angelo Cipriano thank you so much! I just used Wondra (gravy thickener), which is a trick my boss uses!
thank you for the tip on the shades eq on how to make it not so runny! I'm gonna go get that flour stuff today!
+Lindsay Becker 😉😉😉
+Lindsay Becker Redken actually makes a color thickener for the Shades EQ, you just have to add a few drops to the color and it is soooo much easier to work with!
+Leslie Wedig yeah I've used it but I feel like I end up putting like 10 drops in lol.
The best video, you explained so well..can't wait to try this out..Love to see more corrections and the tips.xx
+Casper White thank you so much!!!
I LOVE your videos. I wish I found you early in my career!!! Thank a bunch Alexsis!!! =)
+MYa C awe thank you so much! I love having other stylists on my RUclips community!

+Natalie Wrighton thank you!!! I know there are some talented stylist in your area! Just start asking around 😉
Stunning. Super helpful tutorial thank you!
Thank you for watching love ❤️
As an Educator with over 25 years of experience in schools, and owning a salon, THANK YOU for your disclaimer! People think "messing with hair" is so easy and no brains are required. To be a quality cosmetologist a person needs to invest a lot of time, money, and dedication. "What can I buy at Sally's to do this?" is a recipe for disaster.
Haha exactly 😉
you're an amazing colorist. great to see as much passion for perfect color as I do. ;)
+Jen Needre That means so much, thank you!!!
Welcome :)
Thanks A LOT! Very well explain ...
+J.V.C thank yin for watching!

+Alexsis Mae Hey Alexis I did use your technique on my client and it turned out beauuuuutifully :D took me 5 hours though hahaha :D but that's just me being slow :O so thank you soo much for sharing your techniques :) love them

+Bunni Love thank you!
Absolutely stunning!!!
+J Ellio Thanks girl!

This is beautiful! You did an amazing job! Thank you for all the details down to time involved. This is always a misconception on the client's part and cost involved!
+debbielynn hatley you are so welcome, thank you for watching! I agree, sometimes the long way is the best way and I always like to educate my clients on every step I take so they understand why I am doing it the way I do!
Wow just wow, you got some major talent going on. I bet that took half a day to do.
Your a great teacher thank you!

Beautiful amazing work thanks for the well explained process!
+Felicia Gabrian Thank you, and thank you for watching!

Thank you so much for the disclaimer. I've been working so hard to complete 1,500 hours to get a license.
+Hannie Flare you'll get there!!! Keep working hard it's worth it!
you are amazing! I hope one day I'm as educated as you are!!
+Kristen Maisel (KayMommi) awe thank you! I just read a lot, watch videos, follow stylists, and learn from others around me! There is so much to learn, you can never stop 😉
beautiful. love how informative you are. thanku 4 sharing
Eeek yay! I didn't know you made a video on it! I haven't even watched it yet. Had to pause to comment my excitement!! LOL
+Shannon VanFleet hahaha you are so cute!!! I wish we lived near each other 😫
I KNOWWWW :((((
its sad that non professionals out here with no understanding doing it anyway... this is why I wentback to esthetics and now medical aesthetics bc I couldn't stand fixing peoples insane "home jobs" that were so horrible and the hair being so damaged... couldn't do it. I went back into esthetics and then medical aesthetics and PMU and im happier then ever however, I do miss being IN the salon. I wanted my hair like this after I had gone dark during my first pregnancy against my better judgement I just came back across this video as it was my Inspo and it is still sooo beautiful and still in style.
this is just what i was looking for! thanks for the demo :D
i wish u cld do mine xoxox Mom of 10 here 🙌🙌🙌Willow is gorge and u are doing a GREAT JOB
Kendra Diane Parra omg mom of 10!!! Kudos to you
Thanks for this educational video!
+Gabriela Arellano thank you for watching!!!
love the disclaimer as well!
+Brittany Italasano 💋
Damn these techniques are really hard for the layman.
+Anony - Mouse ?
Not really hard, just time consuming. You have to be patient, be thorough, but still move quickly so as to avoid excessive damage to the hair.
hi I am from Ukraine and it amazing what you do with hair
I have watched this video about 15 times! Love the finished result, and trying to adapt it for a level 9 blonde with layered hair above her shoulders. Wants the shadow root and the color melt but blonde ends. This is the best video I've found to help! Any tips?
Kristy Nickol m
Wow!! Amazing! Just amazing!
+lovelyhairbear 🤗💋💕
And in two weeks.. there’s no trace of this look $$$
Gorgeous application♡
Amazingly gorgeous 😍😍😍
+Amy b 😽💋
this is such an amazing tutorial
+Lydia Derr thank you!
does anyone notice her horizontal and vertical verbiage is incorrect?
Right .I was thinking as shes doing the process I was like ok your explaining it wrong?
Can you show in a video the right way please, much appreciated thank you.
Yea, she does that in other video’s. That’s ok, we figured it out, right?
this is beyond amazing
Stunning!!! Gonna start my process after the summer. Get it from brown(my natural color) to white at the tips with the baylage techniek. I wish I lived close to you cause I would sure give you a call.
+Mr & Mrs Pullins it's such a fun color!!! Where do you live? I might know someone near you!
+Alexsis Mae pensacola fl. just moved there so I am looking for a good hairdresser
I really liked it
Her videos are aimed specifically for licensed professionals. The terms she is using is understandable for those who went to school & extensive continuing education courses. Her disclaimer in the beginning should have completely cleared up this issue. Quick question alexiss... Do you prefer the continuum over Olaplex& why?
+Lacie DeLuna I have a video that I posted recently about this topic! I'm 100% Olaplex now after using and researching this and other products!
I love your videos!! I also a stylist! thank you for sharing
+Dulce Rodriguez Hey there fellow hair lover ;) Thank you for watching!!!
Was i the only person looking into the girls phone ? :D
WOW. Just wow!!
+nichol_mich 😄😄😄
horizontal is side to side. vertical is up and down. :)
+Kaitlyn Taylor Baby brain got me all mixed up....omg hahahaha!!!!
I was about to say .. It looks the opposite of what you're saying 😂 its ok you have a 50/50 shot of mixing them up ! Lmao
Alexsis Mae to remember horizontal just think of the horizon :)
AMAZING tips, thank you!
