- Hi there,
Here is a very quick tutorial on how I do lighting for simple assets in Maya2020 and Arnold.
I will use just 2 lights to get the result. I shall not use any HDRI because it is always best to do manual lighting when you want o learn lighting. Infact this also could help you increase your photography skills.

You are welcome to suggest more topics and ideas for tutorials.

Hello sir I'm facing a problem in Maya Arnold rendering. Any steps for hiding Arnold watermark in Maya. plz reply me sir
You can use render sequence instead of batch render
@@veda_prashanth thanks sir, I'm inspire from u ❤️
Very nice info, can you share the assets that you used?
I have added the asset files in the description :)
@@veda_prashanth Thank you!
It's a weird way you try to place it in the center of the object.. just go to your main render camera and place the handle in the center of the object and later you can adjust the height and distance(scale) of the backdrop.
Another thing is: Always use HDRi's, not necessary environment hdri's, there's also lamp/softbox HDRI's or using atleast custom gradients helps alot ( Arnold seems to have "Soft edge" etc which kinda does that ).
Anyway great stuff and Maya looks like pain in the ass for lighting, that's why i use Max, it has seemingly innocent feature "Highlight picker" which saves tons of time especially for animation lighting, there's nothing worse than manually moving lights for minutes till you get the highlight positioned well ( in such case i usually make super basic light rig by moving the light a bit away and placing it's pivot to the object i'm lighting then i can easily rotate it around the object ), i would suggest using HDR Light Studio plugin+soft if you're doing lighting alot, ofcourse it has it's cons and pros.
Hi Exaco,
Thanks for the feedback,
The camera aim and up didn't trigger me while making the tutorial :p and about the HDRIs, the basic concept about why I said not to use HDRIs was only for people who would want to learn lighting. I have seen people creating an HDRI in a scene where they just download the model and assign some free textures online and say that they have done the lighting. Yes using HDRI is really important for realism and light inconsistency, but this tutorial was just focusing on for complete freshers who have no idea about using physical lights.
Also generally for product photography its completely a dark studio where the photographer arranges the light according to his idea which is why i encouraged not to use HDRI so that one can learn how to position lights for his product be in photography or in cg. AGREE?
I am glad you have given your time for a very good feedback.
Thanks again :)
Work is nice.. Plz modelling texturing and lighting upload plz.. Brother
