You can see this guy actually has some pride in his car. It's a 12 year old car, but looks cleaner inside and out than some of the people's cars on here looked that were only one or two years old.
14:21 Besides the constant failure from the ej25x, the biggest downfall of the 4th gen legacy was indeed the radio. Whoever thought it was a good idea to make an integrated AC unit with the radio should have been fired and banned from the auto industry.
I had a 2005 Legacy GT, and the japanese market had the HVAC controls and Radio separate. You can swap them, but it was expensive... and you have to import/ find them in japan... But yes fuck that guy for putting them together for the North American market.
Exactly what I drive. I am going to be so bummed when it reaches end of life if Subaru of America still hasn't come to their senses to bring this model back. (and I drove a 1992, all white 5sp manual Subaru wagon, before this). Maybe will have to wait for the Genesis G70 wagon...
@@masonhu4676 Why does it have to end? My OBXT (same as this, but lifted) had 218k miles on it when the 5mt started making noise. Instead of messing around, I went for the JDM Spec B swap. A complete pallet of driveline parts with 48kmiles on them shipped to my door. Imagine your wagon with the tall geared 6mt, R180 rear diff, bigger rear brakes, and a new lease on life for under $4k. Do it!
Great compromise with vehicle on performance mods...hear the sensible Dad voice who doesn't need to impress anymore. Enjoyable review with 2 older gentlemen...
Dan Ryan his balls must look like those of a 10 year old. I'm not pedopholic (is that the correct English term?) but I think I remember how mine looked like when I was 10 :'}
This is the one Subaru I would get. Very clean, much appreciated. An STI for grown ups. BTW love how Matt says "Morning kids!" - he really knows his core audience - bunch of kids who bench race while driving mom's van or a clapped out Civic.
Exactly my thoughts. I scrolled down to see if anyone thought the same thing. You were the first I found. :) You say he's down to earth. To me he seems to be in a higher consciousness. The way he talked about increasing the size of the oil pump and oil pan and all that stuff. Matt was like "you sir are in tune with your car."
Had this exact car, white 05 LGT wagon w a stick, love what this guy has done with his. Mine was not a paragon of reliability but was a blast to drive in its lightly modded state. Great sleeper car., drove it hard, and never got a ticket. Sadly there are no Subarus now (other than WRX) that stir an enthusiast passion, so I’ve moved on the a Golf R.
this guy looks like a pilot, aviators, low set serious voice, wouldn't be surprised if he flew an ac-130 or something large, cool owners, cool car - love the review.
A note on the JDM STI engine: they have dual AVCS, twin scroll turbo, and equal length headers. Plus 8k redline, sounds almost like a VTEC at the top. And they are 2 liters.
The stereo issue is easily remedied. I also have an 05 LGT wagon. You can swap out a stereo unit from a later model 07-09. The later model stereo plays mp3 discs and has aux in and satellite capability. A company called GROM sells a unit that plugs in to the stock satellite radio connection in the rear of the unit. The Grom unit has Bluetooth, hands free calling, iPod and Android usb connectivity. Cost me about 250 for a junk yard radio and the Grom BT3. This completely modernizes the radio at low cost. I love my LGT.
After watching Joe tear the car down a build it back up, I'm excited to see this video. I've driven this car, and can say it's a great compromise between power and handling.
One of the great sleepers from the factory. I always perk up a bit when I see an older legacy sedan or legacy wagon(rarely) with the subtle hood scoop. I like to peek in if I can and see if it's a manual.
I have a 2006 legacy GT wagon manual and I still get excited every time I drive it ! It is by far the fastest smoothest car I’ve ever driven agree about a sixth gear Couldn’t recommend one enough superb 😁
Too bad Subaru doesn't make anymore turbo Outbacks, or even STI wagons. Not enough variety in subaru performance cars. You either get the WRX or the STI, maybe a forester xt at the cost of having a CVT
They won't bring it despite how many Outbacks/Legacy's sold over the years. The Outback is now an SUV to boost the MPG average across their SUV fleet. The entire American market has gone to SUV's.
I have this exact car, but the sedan. I love it more than the 2010 WRX premium sedan I once owned. It's labor of love rebuilding this car. I'm having a new clutch installed now & a bunch of other replacements. It really is the best car Subaru ever made & nobody realizes it has the STI engine. I only found it trying to find a used WRX for under $9k. I paid $5k for the LGT with another $4k of needed fixes happening now. I plan to even replace the engine when it goes I dig this car that much. Great video! The wagons are impossible to find. They only made it manual in 2005. I prefer the sedan for me, but do wish I could sleep in it comfortably.
Awesome. I have an 05 OBXT. Doing a 6 speed swap myself was one of the first things I did after building an engine. Then I built my own coilovers. Then FMIC, diy tuning, alcohol injection, sti turbo. Now it's the stereo. Super sleeper, very professional looking, and truly is like you say, an STI for adults. Thanks for the language about the group N trans and motor mounts. I looked that up, and definitely need to go that way.
Late to the party on this one. I drive an 04 FXT and love it but really want a Legacy GT. Lower, sharper handling from the factory, and more luggage space for weekends. I think the difference in sound has to do with the Legacy's dual-tip exhaust with the y-pipe versus the single in the Imprezas.
Great video! Really love those cars. I bought a used '05 GT Wagon a few years back to be my daily once my Evo VIII had turned into weekend warrior. Loved it. Fantastic car. Never modified it but I always knew it had potential.
Ben Chesterman Fuck you Australian, lol. They want twice that for turbo subarus in the US. High mileage, old, busted, doesnt matter. They ask an arm and a leg.
Casey, depends how much you care, I have an 06 WRX with some cosmetic damage and a salvage title. $4000 total to buy and like $350 in parts and I have a reliable daily that looks good from one side.
Agreed these design years of the legacy body is the best of subaru

Respect for sticking to the Apple Mighty Mouse, Matt! ;) ...oh and you're absolutely right about the interior & body style - the best Outbacks there were.
love these cars. i use to own a 91 legacy turbo rs estate/wagon. was so comfy on the motorway but with all the suspension mods it had it really ripped the back roads
That boxer exhaust can be heard at litteraly every intersection everywhere in the denver metro area... no joke subies are more common than HPV out here. But this car inparticular is gorgeous.
Love this build and constantly wonder why Subaru doesn't pair their 2.0L turbo with the current Legacy offerings and a manual transmission. The Forester XT comes closest, I suppose. I echo the interior impression. My folks had an '07 outback wagon and lordy that fit like a glove with surprisingly good cornering coupled with an amazingly comfy and stable highway experience. Alas, automatic and non-turbo powerplant...
Founder of AutoTempest here. Both of those things are on our to-do list. (More filters first.) For now though, you can do quite a bit with the keywords field. (Especially if you're searching for a particular trim level.) Hopefully that helps!
Well for all you repliers, i think hello bye means weird as in the fact that it is not your average kind of car that gets modded. I like seeing oddball or average cars that you dont really see modded.
I guess being from Australia changes my views on them being an oddball since these are common modified. There's heaps of people who own modified Libertys/Legacys
Great car. Lovely sleeper and hauls your family and all your stuff too! I had an issue with the low top gear on a VW in Germany. Simple solution : swap out the ratio for top gear only... Cost under 200 Euros including fitting. Is it that simple on a Subaru?
Matt, try and get your hands on a Legacy specb. it comes with a 6 speed and aluminum LCAs along with a couple other goodies. i have one if youre interested.....but im in New Jersey
Correct. But my car has some mods that make it close. Like DCCD and a modified factory style turbo. I wish he could go to Japan though and do shoots. Obviously not really possible
We got the gt tuned by sti version . The legacy sti has more power 290 hp . still our car in Australia hits 5.3 to 60 factory .Few tenths slower than are 2005 wrx sti
Ahhhh the memories my dad had one when I was little, the same white GT, it was just stock. Sadly it was an Automatic so my dad opted to get rid of it instead of investing time into fixing it…😢
Considering buying this 2000 legacy GT double sunroof, 93k miles for 6500 and of course it manual... really want it just don't have the proper fund's/job to get it rn.. pretty damn worried someone else is gonna cop it
Matt it sounds like you need to drive a Legacy spec.B that comes with the 6 speed. Ive got one on the east coats you can take for a spin if your interested.
I'm not sure if you have done a 1990-1995 Ford Taurus SHO but I wouldn't mind seeing a one take with one of those things. I'm not saying I'm in love with them, but I find them interesting with that Yamaha V6 and a 5 speed manual.
In New Zealand we have the JDM version of these cars. They have a 2.0 twin scroll engine with variable valve timing on intake and exhaust valves and roller rocker actuated valves! And you can also get the spec b with the Bilstein shocks.
This video made me swap my 05 legacy gt steering rack to the '15+ sti rack. It definitely is more direct, and there's no dead zone. It is a direct bolt on and Subaru's definitely are legos!
You can see this guy actually has some pride in his car. It's a 12 year old car, but looks cleaner inside and out than some of the people's cars on here looked that were only one or two years old.

Aaron H. Seriously I have cds get stuck constantly
Aaron H. Many cars had similar designs. Mid 90's Ford cars come to mind, especially the Taurus.
Patrick94GSR maybe the guy was fired by Ford and hired by Subaru..
Aaron H. Subaru (that I love) does a lot of stupid stuff that someone should be fired for.
I had a 2005 Legacy GT, and the japanese market had the HVAC controls and Radio separate. You can swap them, but it was expensive... and you have to import/ find them in japan... But yes fuck that guy for putting them together for the North American market.
A white 2005 subaru legacy GT wagon with a stick! Totally my dream car.....this made my morning!
same
Exactly what I drive. I am going to be so bummed when it reaches end of life if Subaru of America still hasn't come to their senses to bring this model back. (and I drove a 1992, all white 5sp manual Subaru wagon, before this). Maybe will have to wait for the Genesis G70 wagon...
heaps here in New zealand, and with the jdm body kit and not the ugly half out back loik like this one in the video
you should try the lgt wagon with a 6 speed :)
@@masonhu4676 Why does it have to end? My OBXT (same as this, but lifted) had 218k miles on it when the 5mt started making noise. Instead of messing around, I went for the JDM Spec B swap. Dan Ryan - Matt is only in his mid 30's lol
But he looks older ;)
Vax Buster he's using the anti-ager ball powder...elixir of life.
Dan Ryan his balls must look like those of a 10 year old.

Alex Waugh He looks a little weak to be a firefighter
Joe is a good friend of mine. Up until very recently, he's been a C-130 loadmaster for the past couple decades.
A note on the JDM STI engine: they have dual AVCS, twin scroll turbo, and equal length headers. Plus 8k redline, sounds almost like a VTEC at the top. And they are 2 liters.
This interior was on the BMW/Mercedes/Audi level when these came out in '05, and then Subary took 10 steps back in the next generation
Legacy gt wagon, the first gen forester xt, and outback xt are my favorite subarus
This is my all time favorite subaru! I have been looking for one for years, I can only dream for now...
Love how it looks with all the Windows tinted and black pillars, very uniform! I think this is a great looking wagon, well done!!
The stereo issue is easily remedied. I also have an 05 LGT wagon. You can swap out a stereo unit from a later model 07-09. I'm a new father, I think this will be my next vehicle. Such a sleeper.
I'm a simple man. I see a modified Subaru, I like.
Awesome, I wish I had the stick, otherwise I have the identical wagon. Love'em
After watching Joe tear the car down a build it back up, I'm excited to see this video. I've driven this car, and can say it's a great compromise between power and handling.

Too bad Subaru doesn't make anymore turbo Outbacks, or even STI wagons. Not enough variety in subaru performance cars. You either get the WRX or the STI, maybe a forester xt at the cost of having a CVT
bmwmsport11 the forester would probably take over the 30% of the wrx market if it came with a manual
there is a Levorg in Europe with 1.6 turbo. And 2 liter turbo in Japan and Australia
bmwmsport11 still wishing for the levorg to come to the US
Victor Pascua I will sell my STI for one
They won't bring it despite how many Outbacks/Legacy's sold over the years. The Outback is now an SUV to boost the MPG average across their SUV fleet. The entire American market has gone to SUV's.
Find a Legacy GT Spec B in decent shape and you have found yourself a unicorn, most under rated sedan in my opinion
THIS VIDEO IS 5 YEARS AGO AND STILL THE BEST OR THE DEFINITION OF "CLEEEAAAN" CAR. He knows what hes doing. Fckng clean dawg
That car has a very clean and pleasant interior! I really love the looks of this generation of legacy
I have this exact car, but the sedan. I love it more than the 2010 WRX premium sedan I once owned. It's labor of love rebuilding this car. Absolutely my favorite car! Been looking for a lgt wagon with manual for a year now. Glad to see a review!
DatOneItalian hey Dat.... I have an 05 5sp Outback for sale.
Keith Averill where are you located?
This is what I was asking for! Normal cars made fast.. 😀(Thanks for give us some rest from Porsches and BMW's)
I agree this is the pinnacle of Subaru. I did a nationwide search for a used Legacy GT but found none. Thanks for making the trip from CO!
Such a good looking design. It's held up well.
Love that he did the work. Chill dude with a chill car.
So clean inside and out.
Excellent car with all the right mods. My favorite engine sound
The unicorn... only the 2005 model year had the 5spd manual. After that it was all slushbox.
I love the removal of the reflective panel on the hatch. Beauty is found in the little things
Which part is the reflective panel?
Great video! Really love those cars. I bought a used '05 GT Wagon a few years back to be my daily once my Evo VIII had turned into weekend warrior. Loved it. Fantastic car. Never modified it but I always knew it had potential.
A Subaru parked in the winter? BLASPHEMY!
Spec b is the legacy to buy.
3.0 Spec b manual to be specific.
Yeah i own one great cars, just lacking a turbo
tuned by sti ( 276hp ) , the one to buy . In Australia the under 8k usd now .
Ben Chesterman Fuck you Australian, lol. They want twice that for turbo subarus in the US. High mileage, old, busted, doesnt matter. They ask an arm and a leg.

I keep coming back to this video. It's very nicely done. great car. thanks.
oh Gramps
Marc mightycarmods!
its super gramps
but 2 cylinders missing
When you wanna make more one wakes, but the views are lacking: modified Subaru. Keep it up Matt!
Much love, Matt. That's why I sit through your ads lol
Finally! A real world car review
Another Car on my shopping list you help me get more info on! Thanks for another great vid!!!
Damn, I've been waiting for a legacy gt wagon or an obxt
Agreed these design years of the legacy body is the best of subaru
Respect for sticking to the Apple Mighty Mouse, Matt! ;) ...oh and you're absolutely right about the interior & body style - the best Outbacks there were.
love these cars. i use to own a 91 legacy turbo rs estate/wagon. was so comfy on the motorway but with all the suspension mods it had it really ripped the back roads
I love the engine sound. One of the best I've ever heard.
Videos always more enjoyable to watch when someone knows their shit and doesn't attempt to prove they know their shit... modesty is a great quality!
Love these. This is how I learned to drive on the farm tracks
Engine sounds dope as fuck, if I had one of these I'd want it to sound exactly like this.
That boxer exhaust can be heard at litteraly every intersection everywhere in the denver metro area... no joke subies are more common than HPV out here. But this car inparticular is gorgeous.
My dream car is basically this. Love the shape. 6 speed manual, and black interior, and it would be perfect.
wow dream big bro.
sti version are better goal
American spec cars get some really horrid looking bumpers.
I was like wtf? In europe this generation legacy looks pretty good for a subaru. The one shown here looks pretty odd.
Yeap! Kardashian ass back bumper and botox filled front bumper lol!
Probably because wrecking and dying in a vehicle sucks. Bumpers Help bro bro...
The US still uses old regulations....
Bumpers don't need to be that big.....
Yep love that era of cars between the early 2000's. Such perfect sizes
b4 rsk . is 2017 wrx size
This video inspired me! I finally have one! 2005 Legacy 2.5GT Limited 5MT, white with black interior!
I have a 2006 Legacy wagon, non-turbo, auto, same colour as this one. This is everything I sometimes wish mine was.
I've tried autotempest, and I like the idea. I think the advanced search needs more filters, and/or the ability to look up more than one model at once
Founder of AutoTempest here. Both of those things are on our to-do list. (More filters first.) For now though, you can do quite a bit with the keywords field. (Especially if you're searching for a particular trim level.) Hopefully that helps!
Yesss another weird car review....best kind of one takes
Maybe it's because I'm from the PNW and Subarus are everywhere but what makes this weird?
This is weird?
Well for all you repliers, i think hello bye means weird as in the fact that it is not your average kind of car that gets modded. I like seeing oddball or average cars that you dont really see modded.
I guess being from Australia changes my views on them being an oddball since these are common modified. There's heaps of people who own modified Libertys/Legacys
That isn't accurate though..... In the Northeast U.S you see these EVERYWHERE
Great time to post this one, Matt, right when I'm trying to refrain myself from buying one lol
My Monday just got much better.
I will patiently wait for the one take of that gen1 cts-v in the background
I remember Matt saying he won't do one takes with Subarus anymore on his podcast, lol.
I'm glad he did this Legacy GT though, I also drive one
Tastefully modified and clean Subaru! Nice car man
Finally been waiting for someone to bring you one of these!!
I love these wagons but they are so hard to find even more one that hasn't been dogged.
Probably the best car ever made
THIS IS MY LEGGY. THERE ARE MANY LIKE IT BUT THIS ONE IS MINE
Great car. Lovely sleeper and hauls your family and all your stuff too! I had an issue with the low top gear on a VW in Germany. Simple solution : swap out the ratio for top gear only... Cost under 200 Euros including fitting. Is it that simple on a Subaru?
2:57 Does RUclips captions interpret the exhaust note as music? I have never seen that before.
Turn on captions and check it out, that is what is happening.
Ayy been waiting for this one! Thanks Matt!!
Matt, try and get your hands on a Legacy specb. it comes with a 6 speed and aluminum LCAs along with a couple other goodies. i have one if youre interested.....but im in New Jersey
sti version does too . sadly only Japan and Australia got the legacy sti 2 litre twin scroll turbo with more power 270kw
Finally matt, something interesting. Not big on the interior or rpf1s but other than that pretty nice
Yes finally a legacy =]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
I do not understand half the shit people say on this channel but I love it
I'm ready for that black Fairlane, Falcon, Galaxy? What ever it is, bring it on!!!!
BEST Subaru wagon or maybe wagon in general.
Ahhhh the memories my dad had one when I was little, the same white GT, it was just stock. Sadly it was an Automatic so my dad opted to get rid of it instead of investing time into fixing it…😢
about time we see a legacy gt 4th gen. i have an 06 legacy gt stage 2 making 250hp with 300tq here in Colorado not to bad in my opinion
My second favorite Subaru bodystyle, tbh. With the Blobeye STi coming in first.
I love Subarus but the second I saw the Coronet I creamed my jeans.
Lovely build and and and amazing sleeper.
Have a 80,000 k 2004 Outback and looking at a 110,000 k 2005 Legacy GT wagon as a second car (wife).
God Matt would love super gramps
I love a modified non WRX subie. Makes me miss my 3rb
Considering buying this 2000 legacy GT double sunroof, 93k miles for 6500 and of course it manual... really want it just don't have the proper fund's/job to get it rn.. pretty damn worried someone else is gonna cop it
That's way too much money for a N/A Legacy GT
buying one tommarow 2004 Spec B with 56000 mile for 6250. a soldier is leaving and need to sell asap.... did you buy it?
Nice!!!!
I love my 05 llbean. Been garaged its whole life and well maintained. 14 year old car that handles and drives like new.
Can you drive a 7th/8th gen Accord v6 coupe 6speed
This, but definitely the "7.5th gen" '06-07 Coupe or Sedan. Sleepers always make for a good One-Take! :D
The Accord that Matt drove was a 4-cylinder engine, /w aftermarket turbo. We want to see Matt control that Accord 6-6 torque steer lol
I agree Gen 3 Camrys are awesome sleepers
Matt it sounds like you need to drive a Legacy spec.B that comes with the 6 speed. Ive got one on the east coats you can take for a spin if your interested.
hehe, never miss a video with a subi in it!
I'm not sure if you have done a 1990-1995 Ford Taurus SHO but I wouldn't mind seeing a one take with one of those things. I'm not saying I'm in love with them, but I find them interesting with that Yamaha V6 and a 5 speed manual.
XR6 T another great ford
I've always loved the Legacy subies, they look aggressive but not STI aggressive. Now if I could just swap a 4g63 in it it'd be perfect.
Please tell me there will be a upcoming One Take with that black Coronet!
"Is it a beast in the snow?"
"uhhh, I don't know..."
In New Zealand we have the JDM version of these cars. They have a 2.0 twin scroll engine with variable valve timing on intake and exhaust valves and roller rocker actuated valves! And you can also get the spec b with the Bilstein shocks.
How about legacy sti with 280hp ?
Driving a fuckin element over this in the snow? What a depressing life
This video made me swap my 05 legacy gt steering rack to the '15+ sti rack. It definitely is more direct, and there's no dead zone. It is a direct bolt on and Subaru's definitely are legos!
Sick!! I have an 06 Sedan I've been modifying. Definitely a fun car!!! Love the video!
Finally a Subaru on tst! Been a long time since the last one!
this guy is America's good neighbor
