You finally got your ballad ... and you are absolutely right about Su being able to express all the emotions so you can get the feeling of the song and what she is singing about despite not understanding a word she said. As Su once said "Don't think. Feel."
Ah finally you made it to a ballad for real. Su’s voice is next level and simply perfect. This is song and performance is one of my favourites since Su is able to express so much (if you watch closely, you may notice the tear running down her cheek). And yes, her ears are perfect!

Su is amazing in every single way. Obviously her powerful vocals is the base of her career but she's more than that. Her stage presence, her charisma, the way she owns the stage, and yes her ears :) But the feature I appreciate the most is her ability to convey emotions. As you mentioned, even without understand a word of the lyrics, you get moved by the way she sings and performs. And she just turned 16 the day before. She's a hell of a performer.
The most amazing version of Akatsuki is the one from their 10 years at Budokan, played in 2021, that mixes the classic metal song with the Unfinished, which basically is an unplugged. Unfortunately it's stil unavailable, except for some fancam. Second best, the old Akatsuki from 2014 Black Night at Budokan, she really gave everything she can at the time, in that one. Or the more recent one from Dark Carnival.
I love Akatsuki, it always gives me goosebumps.
And you may still enjoy listening to No 🌧️, No 🌈.

Su's sticking out ears have been one of her "charm points" since she was very little. : )
Here's a translation of the narration before the "Unfinished Version" of 'Akatsuki':
"In order to defend the soul of the Metal, in exchange for her own life,
SU-METAL fought.
Before long, SU-METAL's soul became the crimson flame,
and dyed the sky crimson.
However, as the distant stars go out,
the end of life is the law of nature.
Now the crimson moon is burning out with SU-METAL."
NOTE: This "Unfinished Version" leaves off the final two lines of the song.
"Dye crimson! Dye bloody crimson!".
Instead, it ends with "Going over thousands (of) nights, some love shall survive.
So, until my body perishes, until my life disappears,
I shall keep on cherishing this love."
Suzuka could have been an ear model (think hand model, but for products for ears) :-)
And SU is singing to a force that she has always felt 'out there' yet close by. It is a comforting presence, and she felt that it was what helped her become the crimson flame, and defeat the enemy. Now she is dying because the price for using the crimson flame's power is mortal DEATH. She sings this ballad to the force that has guided her since she was a child. Something she will be joined with in LEGEND 1997 DEATH which was played right after this song.

Akatsuki is one of those special SuMetal solo ranks up favorite for many fans for many reasons. But this one is quite unusual version with only her amazing voice and a piano.
You should watch the regular version too whenever you can, it's a blast. 🤘
There are more songs to enjoy beautiful SuMetal vocal capacity, she grown up thou so she sings different from back then and with more techniques.
SuMetal is very proud of her ears and she loves to have that from her father 😉

Fourth time's the charm ;) Although I'm partial to this song in its more traditional metal form, this version really is heartfelt and very beautiful. I believe this was a one-time performance, exclusive to their _Legend 1997_ concert in honor of Su's birthday, which makes it all the more special.
A ballad at last!
Su always impresses me, and their shows are not long. Only thing I can imagine is doing several shows a week, they are short to save wear on her voice. Maybe you can address that at some point. Akatsuki is pronounced "Akat-ski" by the way, a quirk of Japanese.
Also impressed by her two completely different emotional takes on this song, in one the warrior triumphant, this one she shows her vulnerability. I don't think she gets credit for just how good she is.

I am a Japanese but my nationality and literacy do not have distinct advantages to feel the emotion stirred by Su-Metal. We are actually not listening to something but embracing celestial healings.

Yay, you finally got your ballad. BabyMetal was formed around her because of her strong voice, she has to blast thru a bunch of heavy and fast music most of the time. Her Mom said she was a very loud child.
Her older sister Himeka seems like the more soft-spoken type (even when doing the "Himetan Beam!"), so I guess they've balanced each other out. I don't know anything about their oldest sister, though, so I can't really say where she fits into that dynamic. :)

Stephen Colbert also has an issue with one of his ears. I think one sticks out and the other stays flat against his head. Su's are often visible through her hair, but it's not usually noticeable because she has a ponytail most of the time. Very cute.

There is a nice story about "No Rain, no Rainbow", their second emotional ballad: The writing of the song had been completed in time for the first album. But Su, who was 16 when it was released, said that she didn't feel ready to sing the song the way it needed to be sung. So they postponed it and included it on the second album.
I think this says a lot about ther passion, conscientiousness, self awareness and general character. I find it pretty amazing for a girl that age. And if you watch the performance of the song at "Legend S", you'll see that she is obviously in it with her heart and soul.

Chuck Norris once challenged Su-Metal to a sing-off. You don't hear about Chuck Norris anymore.
I love how respectful the Japanese audience is, they don't clap inappropriately at pauses in the music, they wait until the end. Thanks to that, we have the immaculate live recording to enjoy.
How come all Chuck Norris jokes are funny?
My favourite version of Akatsuki. I always say, this performance is more like by Suzuka Nakamoto, and not SuMetal. It's so moving, especially the end part when she collapsed down, and her voice sounded 'fragile', like it's breaking, the imperfections in that part perfectly captured the emotion of the song. So good!
Su's sticking out ears, snaggle teeth (now straightened), hyper extension joints and manic dance style are all part of her kawaii.
The ""Unfinished Akatsuki" is my favorite version. There are themes of sacrifice and lasting love in the song and now consider that this performance comes between the manic energy of "Headbanger" and the insanity of the "Babymetal DEATH" finale. Akatsuki is translated as "Crimson Moon" and there is lots of red imagery in the lyrics including the crimson thread that links lovers and soulmates. Su starts the song from the same position on the platform as she finished Headbanger. Its a great trilogy of songs that takes Su from schoolgirl to rebirth as a metal goddess...yeah I know, just go with it. This performance also shows off Su's experience in musical theater and ability to emote and communicate with the audience and remember, she's just turned 16 here.

I gotta say I don't usually watch reaction clips but was kinda interested to see. It's really nice to see someone who actually listens before breaking it down rather than blurting in every 2 seconds n making it mainly about them. Nice one!
And this is how a little funny gig that was merging idols and metal transformed into a world phenomenon and the most succesful japanese band out of Japan ever. This little girl is a concentrated unit of talent. And at this point, being already good, she was only sixteen and had barely started to train her voice. She is a lot better now. You should check No Rain, No Rainbow, at Legend S in 2017 or in Budokan in 2021.
Oh and the ears, it's very funny, there is a lot of shots in their shows with dark luminosity and lights around where all of her is in shadows and her ears look illuminated xD She is aware of her things.
Ah yes, and to end, this was a special instrumental version of Akatsuki they made for her 16th birthday. Akatsuki is originally a lot heavier, an unofficial tribute song that echoes Kurenai from X-Japan.

i see you haven't reacted to the "finished" version of this song with the kami band. as beautiful this stripped down version is,the one with kami band is simply amazing. su-metal's voice is so strong she can keep up with the level of intensity the kami band brings to the song. her stage presence is dynamic as well in the "finished" version. i recommend the fox festival 2017 version with english subtitles. the lyrics are very powerful and poetic at the same time. the you tube channel "for the fox god" has the fox festival version as well as a wide variety of babymetal live performances with english subtitles. please revisit this song soon! its become one of my absolute favorites.
Please compare this version to the complete, power metal version. Then, BABYMETAL's only pure slow ballad, No Rain, No Rainbow.

Nice reaction. Su's ability to convey emotion at 16 was amazing. Su's ability to do that now is show stopping glorious. And team Babymetal as Moa refers to it, knows how to get that staging just right. I think one of the reasons Su wears her hair the way she does is to show off those ears. Helps keep folks from looking her in the eyes. Su's legendary death glare with steal your soul. Moa says when Su sings it's like an angel came down. Now who could argue with that. When your band mates say things like that, it says a lot.

This Akatsuki unfinished version doesn't even show the final form of Su-metal. Watch Akatsuki live at budokan black night, at that moment Su becomes the queen of peoples heart. Seriously you must see it.
Not gonna gloss over things, Su has had cracks and tinnie mistakes in some of her stages through the years, but who hasn't. Going back to old videos like these actually make you realize how far she has come as a singer, I am proud. What didn't change about her, what has always been there with Su is the ability of her voice to cut through all that metal and rise above the shredding and the drums never getting buried under the instruments, that power carrying with it the raw emotion Su projects and it just slams into you no matter the language barrier...it's just phenomenal, it makes her so special and tailor-made for BABYMETAL (looks around) if not the other way around

This Unfinished Version was a one time performance for this Legend 1997 show. You should compare it to the original one! A good performance for the original would be "Akatsuki" live at Budokan 2014!

At 6:30, Here Su- has changed the way she sings a little. She is intentionally weak and cuts her voice short. I think she expresses lyrical. I think her vocal skill now is better than that time, but she was 15 at this time. I was amazed.
