Great & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 In the setlist, a real ballad "Akatsuki - unfinished version" comes after this song. And as other viewers commented below, "No Rain No Rainbow" (2017 Legend-S ver.) or "Shine" (2019 Legend-M ver.) are recommendable. Both are available from the channel "Babymetal Reactor Resource". Talking about the crowd participation, you heard the crowd shout some words at 07:07 in your video. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!". This shout comes out wherever BABYMETAL goes on this planet and whenever Su-Metal directs her mic towards audiences.

Nice reaction. Rock opera is nailing it for the over all concert. That show told a story. Funny thing is this song is about going to your first concert at age 15. Su the lead singer had already performed in front of 20,000 by the time they did this song. And this show is around her 16th birthday, later when they do this song she would change the age during the song for when she went to her first concert to match her birthday. Just imagine if this was your first concert.

The fans of BM are usually very invested in the band. The community uses the tongue in cheek #notacult, but sometimes I wonder if the tongue is really in the cheek. Many will have followed them through "Sakura Gakuin" and even if they don't speak Japanese they will have read the lyric translations, learned the concert chants and moves and many of the Japanese lyrics. There is a whole short hand and many in jokes that the fandom shares.
If you want a ballad listen to the song after "Headbanger" at this concert - "Unfinished Akatsuki".
This concert is at Budokan in March 2014 so the lead singer, Su, was 16 and the other girls, Yui and Moa, were almost 15. This song is a bittersweet coming of age story about a 15 year old school girl going to a concert and braving the mosh pit, while knowing the freedom of the moment won't last long. It's used to celebrate BM birthdays and both Yui and Moa have taken the lead in it for their birthdays. The song probably resonated with Su because the year before she had graduated from high school and the idol group "Sakura Gakuin", Yui and Moa were both still members, and started working full time with Babymetal.

Like most I would never call this a ballard. For that my personal high point is No Rain, No Rainbow from Baptism XX, Legend S concert (SU-METAL's 20th birthday - 20 in Japan is coming of age so a very special double concert - Moa has one for her 20th as well). One reason for the Legend S version (apart from being on RUclips) is that her voice had matured and she said she felt she had now had the life experience to do the song justice.
But back to Headbanger - this is staple of any BM concert. Much loved by fans. It is full of iconic moments - for the Freddy Mercury mic stick is used for this song every time it is performed, but only for this song. I have been in audiences for this song and the crowd all jump in unison , a very intense experience. As everyone will tell you, BM is best experienced live, their concerts are insane experience.

    A) You want ballad? No Rain No Rainbow, Rondo of Nightmare, Akatsuki, Starlight and Shine
    B) for y'all wondering what their songs mean, check out Prof. Andrew Hartley's lecture series/analysis and be blown away. The Babymetal team is extraordinarily amazing on all levels, most especially in crafting lyrics.
    C) it's a testament to the Babymetal fans' - collectively called The One - dedicated adulation of these girls that most of us, me certainly, never get tired of experiencing the pure joy the group brings..so much so that I can honestly say 90%+ of your viewers to your BM reaction videos have already watched hundreds if not thousands (surely for me) of these reactions. Everyone has already suggested No Rain No Rainbow and Shine as ballads, and they are excellent ones, but I'd also like to point out a few others. For power metal ballads, you can check out Su-metal's solos Akatsuki or Amore (not slow but still ballads). Then there's the progressive metal ballad, The One, which is a song for the fanbase/supporters of BABYMETAL. While I'll almost always suggest the lives for anything BABYMETAL, for The One specifically I'd go with the official (or if you can get extremely lucky the footage of its debut at Yokohame Arena 2015, which is where the official video got its footage from anyway lol)!
Awesome BABYMETAL reactions so far, and looking forward to the next.

A ballad?? LOL. You ask for a ballad and someone gave you what's probably BABYMETAL's most energetic song. Great reaction by the way. You should try "No Rain No Rainbow" from the Legend S (Su's 20th bday) as a song that really showcases her singing ability and emotional performance. Su's really young in these videos, and singers keep growing until their mid 20s so she's yet to hit her prime.
BTW, your crazy description of BABYMETAL is spot on.

I can only assume the next song is Akatsuki (Unfinished ver) since it's the song that followed Headbanger at this concert, and is actually a ballad, and a beautiful one at that.
The song Headbanger is about a 15 year old girl going to her first metal concert and wanting to cherish the experience since it will never come again. The final three songs are like a rock opera, and has to do with the lore that Babymetal used back in the beginning.
Simply, Babymetal was brought into existence by the Fox God to defend metal against J-Pop that was taking over the music industry and trying to destroy metal. The final three songs, Headbanger, Akatsuki (unfinished ver), and Babymeatl Death loosely tell a story of the battle (Headbanger), nearing defeat and accepting that she must die to continue the battle (Akatsuki unfinished), and finally Su-metal being sacrificed to be reborn a metal goddess to continue the fight. The three songs are sometimes referred to as the Trilogy of Death.
None of the songs were originally written to tell that story, as I already wrote what the meaning of headbanger was. Akatsuki (unfinished) was a one-off performance by Su-metal for her 16th birthday concert, Legend 1997, and has a regular version with the heavy guitars that is normally performed. The song Babymetal Death was mostly used as an opening song and is mainly an instrumental that gets the crowd fired up. However, in the Legend 1997 concert it was the closing song and includes a rather intricate stage performance used to complete Su-metal's ascent to metal goddess.

I love 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!'. It's a classic BABYMETAL song, and one of their early hits.
There aren't many people who would consider this full on rocker a ballad though.
I think the person suggesting this one was a little unclear on the concept. : )
For that you need either 'No Rain, No Rainbow', or the "Unfinished" version of 'Akatsuki'.
Even though 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' is about a fifteen year old girl attending her first heavy concert, Su was only fourteen when this song was first recorded.
It's not biographical, but it is a song she could relate to. At that age she had already been on stage for years, rather than attending concerts like the girl in the song.

The theme and estètics of that concert revolved around gods and demons during Apocalypse. That explains the big mother Mary statue on the background, and the Organ music which was part of the intro scene before the song itself. It’s funny that you mention Mad Max and BabyMetal at the same time. I have a playlist for my morning commute to work that’s about 30min up I-295. I have the fastest catchiest BabyMetal songs , because you can’t be angry listening to BM. But it’s still fast passed to keep up with traffic.

    Headbanger! a ballad song? o_O
Whoever recommend you might misunderstood your request, in any case the lyrics without the music could be or sound in your head like a ballad song. Don't get me wrong Headbanger! is one of Babymetal all time favorite, mine too, we love the power of this song and even the "melancholic" feel on lyrics mixing with the industrial metal and kawaiiness from the girls. Btw if you like the song and want to hear it again i recommend you to watch Legend Metal Galaxy Day 2 live version, the thing with this song and many other songs on Babymetal is they got unique live performances to add a different visual and experience to the audience.
Anyway in any case i recommend you _"Akatsuki"_ (Unfinished version) from the same live concert here, _"No Rain No Rainbow"_ live Legend S Baptism XX, both are SuMetal (the lead singer) solos, i'll add _"Shine"_ with both of them (or three depending the vid) They got more songs you can said are or with ballads in it but that's only if you listen or want to understand the lyrics.
Nice you like it either way. Looking for more of this journey if you go for it \m/

If you're looking for a proper ballad, No Rain No Rainbow is the way to go (THE ballad 😅), other suggestions may be Shine, not a real one, as it's a bridge between Starlight (Djent) and Arkadia (Power Metal), then there's my favourite BM song, Akatsuki, a love song that could be arguably considered a ballad, same goes for Amore.
But I'm pretty sure No 🌧️ no 🌈 is the one you're looking for 😉

As noted many times previously, not what would be considered a "Ballad"...and "No Rain, No Rainbow" from the Legend S show at Hiroshima would be the one you would enjoy, I am sure! A real "power ballad" for sure, in the classic sense of the word. Great song though!

I've seen some recommendations for Akatsuki (Unfinished ver.) next. If you choose to watch that one, here's a good, high-quality upload of the performance with subttitles for the lore intro: ruclips.net/video/a7KIh9UQghA/видео.html
You could also do the normal version of Akatsuki, which is more upbeat than the unfinished (acoustic) version but still more ballad-esque (and a better showcase of Su's singing) than Headbanger: ruclips.net/video/D-YN5Zfg9Jw/видео.html
Lastly, pausing during the video doesn't actually guarantee that the bots won't block your reaction, unfortunately. However, these early BM concerts (Budokan Red and Black Nights, Legend 1997, and a couple others) are generally pretty safe. Official videos from the BM channel are less safe, and live videos from more recent concerts are just about 100% blocked, though the Babymetal Reactor Resource channel has found a way to at least circumvent some of the automated blocking.

The first two albums, I strictly watch. And I eat up the reaction videos. But there are only a couple of songs I get a hankering to just hear, like Karate and Megitsune. Then Metal Galaxy came out and that whole album is easier to just throw on a playlist. Kagerou reminds me of something I'd have listened to in the car in HS. Night Night Burn is great for background when I'm cleaning house. The first two albums were really developed with the live show in mind, I think, and with Yui leaving before Metal Galaxy came out, and the live shows all throw into uncertainty, the final product with the last album shifted focus to the music more. But that's just my impression. I'm way more content to just listen to Metal Galaxy without needing to see the visuals, even though the visuals are still as badass as ever.

Never heard Headbanger referred to as a ballad before! lol
I'm guessing the second song will be Akatsuki (unfinished): it's just Su plus piano.....
which definitely qualifies! See if you can spot Su allegedly shedding a tear during her amazing performance of this song. A heavier version is in the Legend 1999 show.
As you're still a ballad short (!)..... PLEASE react to "No Rain No Rainbow" from Legend S in 2017 (Su's 20th birthday)....a show which is also very special as it was the last to feature guitarist Mikio...who tragically died not long afterwards :( A very emotional version of a great song ruclips.net/video/pDgqo6fcliY/видео.html

That's the problem with Babymetal. It makes you want to tell other people about it because it's so unique but then you sound like a crazy person. :) Then it's like i REALLY need you to watch Babymetal so that you don't think i'm crazy but then that makes you sound even crazier.

BABYMETAL ballad that is not upbeat: No Rain, No Rainbow and Akatsuki Unfinished. To avoid over stimulation: No Rain, No Rainbow is a pure pop ballad and Akatsuki Unfinished is sung with all acoustic instrumentation. When you get through those, time for the upbeat ballads: Akatsuki, Amore.

I would say that if understanding the language that is being sung is a prerequisite, then best not listen to Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, and Beethoven never mind more Babymetal. And although knowing what is being sung would be nice, it isn't necessary to appreciate the music. I was always under the impression that the human voice should be regarded as just another instrument - do you need to know what the trumpet or violin is saying to appreciate the music they are making? But, if the language is an issue for you, then I suggest that you do a little lyrical research before diving into another reaction video that uses a language that you do not know. Just saying. 🦊🤘

I think they thought you asked for a rap song rather than a ballad. I listen to BABYMETAL all the time but other than saying it’s fine with me that you don’t can’t think of anything to say about that really. No Rain No Rainbow from the Legend S show… another of Su’s birthday performances, this time in her hometown of Hiroshima.

  • @mg4869

"Ballad" in contemporary usage typically means "slow (romantic) love song". BABYMETAL does not do romantic love songs. However, they have done a few ballad-like songs dedicated to former band members. They have also done a few slow-ish songs.
This is a ballad in the sense that it tells a self-contained story, and so might be squeezed in as a narrative ballad. But whatever.
Do people really place THAT much value on knowing the lyrics of songs? Personally value BABYMETAL's songs for the fact that I CAN'T understand the lyrics. I get the gist, and enjoy the songs and performances regardless. Like the great Norville 'Shaggy' Rogers once said, "You don't have to know what, ' "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi? ce Soir." ' means to like that song." And I really wish I didn't know.
Anyway, you read that Moa sang this song on her birthday. The person who told you this was correct...BUT they failed to mention that Yui sand it as well on her birthday. The sound quality on Yui's version isn't as good because the fancam audio is overproduced. Just as Yui shouts 'Headobangya!!!, the Kami band hit the instruments hard, and the compression algorithm drops Yui's voice to about half-volume. Yui's birthday is fourteen days before Moa's, so Yui's version was recorded first. (June 20 vs July 4).
Loved your trying to explain BABYMETAL to someone who has never heard them. Best just to say, "Here, just watch this." and press play.

Thanks keep on trying keep on rocking

HI Michal. I am one of your subs and found you being a Dimash fan. Many of the voice teachers who do Dimash also do a group called Pentatinox. Besides some obvious reasons as they are quite unique, they have a huge RUclips following and doing a few reaction video of theirs can add thousands to you channel. To give you a idea, they have collectively over 5 Billion views of their RUclips songs.? They recently did a video, " 90's Dance Medley" and this was most likely the music you grew up with and would be a good one especially for you to do a reaction video to and gather some new members. What is odd is they are an A Capella band ? If your wondering how could an A Capella band have such a following , for someone like you, who is in the business, has music awards and a comprehensive understanding of music, 30 sec of anything they do would answer that. This is sort of prodigy, next level artistry. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but it is not . Just listen drop test it. Thanks Michal We love you. I will leave a link and if any of what I said sound interesting, just drip test it for 30 - 40 sec.
With love from Florida ( Ps this is about 4 week old and already has 6.2 million views ? Wow ? ) ruclips.net/video/57YEAEKKcOk/видео.html

It's Babymetal..... it is an alternate universe. One ruled by respecting your neighbor, where joy and friendship trump malcontentness and making everyone an enemy. Something that transcends borders, languages, cultures, sex, or sexual preference. It's a universe where people are encouraged to have fun side by side, coming together as one over something as silly as what you described They call the fanbase "The One"). Aside from that, recommending this song was a disservice to you. No Rain No Rainbow is a valid ballad. Shine is a valid ballad. Headbanger, not so much. :)
