Lastly, it really always amazes me how these big blocks can sit for decades and then come back to life. I wonder if the engine builders at Chrysler knew just how good an engine they created…amazing!
Totally. The perspective is interesting though. The older I get, the less older than me these cars seem, if that makes any sense at all. Heck, ‘70 was only twenty years before I was born… crazy that this road runner is 53 years old, but was parked for 32 of them.
Those lacy aluminum wheels on the front are probably "Appliance wheels" based on the name of the manufacturing company. I used to think they didn't fit the look of the car, but now I'm not so sure. I wonder if four came with the car. The wheels I'd put on would be the factory "Road Wheels" you see on the back. If possible, widened and converted to 15 inch. Or, you can't go wrong with Mopar Rallye wheels.
Oh, I just saw the close up on the Appliance wheel. Somebody has been driving without the proper washers. It doesn't take long to mess up the holes. I guess they could be welded up with today's welders.
This is awesome! I need mine to drive. I just deleted the factory AC compressor on my 383 and need to figure out what to buy to route the belts right?? Any help is appreciated. Also I bought a Lokar transmission kick down but I am having trouble hooking it to the carb with the throttle, is there a bracket kit?
There are several different versions of the accessory mounting brackets for AC, and I don’t know which one you’ve got. Some have an extra tensioner pulley and a short water pump belt. Some don’t. What you need to make this happen will vary. Personally, I’d get a non-AC bracket kit. It will probably simplify your life. I’m not sure what carb you have, but if it’s an Edelbrock or Holley that should be easy. If it’s a factory application carb… I have no idea. You may have to make one.
I found one of these at the side of a Lake in the 1990s...Ram Air, V Code 4 speed bench car..Jacked the rear up to look under it and the chrome popped off the rear glass...so we let the car down and left it. Too rusty for sake of sitting in the dirt too long...now we could have fixed it. back then, not so much

If it's a factory TX9 car with the K4 burnt orange interior, that may be enough to make it a 1 of 1. The column shifted automatic and Air Grabber almost certainly do. It won't be cheap no matter what direction the owner decides to go, but it would be a shame to see anything but a factory correct resto IMO.
That’s the plan! It is indeed factory black with burnt orange interior. In the follow up video about reinstalling the six barrel setup, I show the fender tag (like I should have in this one.) Feel free to check that out! While we’re not necessarily concerned with the one-of-how-many this particular set of options may make this car, it’s definitely a rare combination and it will get the restoration it deserves sooner or later. For now? Fun!
Really glad it has the HP manifolds and not headers. Really annoyed the pipes seem to have come from a 383 car and don’t fit. I really don’t remember. Somewhere in the vicinity of Minnesota.
The front rims on that Roadrunner are Anson magnesium Wheels they took them off the market because they could hit a curb and start on fire and you can't put them out
I’m well familiar with Ansen, and also with the interesting properties of magnesium, but have never heard of what you are talking about. Aluminum became a more viable material to make wheels out of in the late 60s and early 70s, and as it was cheaper, the industry moved that direction. But there are still high performance competition wheels made out of magnesium to this day.
We did, and it is! I had every intention of showing the fender tag (which is present) but the day was just a real whirlwind of trying to get it together and that didn’t make the cut. Tom is a huge numbers guy, much more than I am. The codes aren’t as important to me as the cars, but it is super cool that this one was optioned the way that it was.
@lowbrass64 it’s my car and yes car has broadcast sheet, fender tag and the engine is numbers (it came with the car but motor in it right now is a 1969 440 HP). TX9 black, burnt orange interior, black vinyl top, hood performance treatment, stripe delete, 440 6 barrel, 4.10 Dana 60, 8 track radio, tach, air grabber, it’s pretty much the perfect Road Runner. Maybe a 4 speed would be better? Love this thing, next up is putting 6 pack back on it, fixing brakes, replacing water pump, lots more to do…but it drives!
I actually do have one in my home box, but not in my travel box, so I never seem to actually have it when I need it… so the pliers have been my go to for like fifteen years now. Hacky? Yes. Haha.

While we’re not necessarily concerned with the one-of-how-many this particular set of options may make this car, it’s definitely a rare combination and it will get the restoration it deserves sooner or later. For now? Fun!
You got lucky Jamie...it’s got manifolds instead of headers. Great looking RR! May I ask which Midwest state it came from?
Really glad it has the HP manifolds and not headers. Really annoyed the pipes seem to have come from a 383 car and don’t fit. I really don’t remember. Somewhere in the vicinity of Minnesota.
I’m in MN. Beautiful find
Headers are usually a mistake
@@kellismith4329 that’s why I said he got lucky.
Cool.
My favorite year
The front rims on that Roadrunner are Anson magnesium Wheels they took them off the market because they could hit a curb and start on fire and you can't put them out
I’m well familiar with Ansen, and also with the interesting properties of magnesium, but have never heard of what you are talking about. Aluminum became a more viable material to make wheels out of in the late 60s and early 70s, and as it was cheaper, the industry moved that direction. But there are still high performance competition wheels made out of magnesium to this day.
Im excited 😂😂
Do you ever decode the plate on these? Is it a real black car? Odd but absolutely beautiful combo with the burnt orange interior!
I have some of the weird "32" wrenches just for the starters. Many years of experience has taught me to be prepared for those.......
I actually do have one in my home box, but not in my travel box, so I never seem to actually have it when I need it… so the pliers have been my go to for like fifteen years now. Hacky? Yes. Haha.
V Code 💪
Cool color combo and it's not green
well now I have Exodus stuck in my head...until morale improves
How come you didn't do a compression and leak down test?
Because I have ears, and they work.
Not all roadrunners from my research had the roadrunner steering wheel am I correct sir? As my 70 doesn’t have it and my dad bought it new.
I don’t know that! That would be a Tom question.
Seen the Merch. Order some man sized ts 3-4xl. I will get about 4 if you have different colors
👍🏻🇦🇺💯⛽️she was a great car in her day hope she get restored the way ma MOPAR made her .

How much are you willing to sale it ? I been looking for a road runner for my dad
It’s not mine, and it’s not for sale. Thanks.
I think it's the same as SBC. Which is, indeed 11/32".
Would you be able to do a video on your external fuel system?
I’ve kinda shown it in many videos, but haven’t really explained it. I can’t say I could do a whole video just on that, but I can definitely show it in more detail next time I use it.
Black exterior and a burnt orange interior, somebody got creative. I bet it was awesome when it was new! Congratulations on the new subs pretty soon you’ll be like Derek and whistling. Move to Tennessee and ignore us peons.😂😂😂
You’d have to drag me to Tennessee 😅 I’ll stay right here in rain land, thank you very much!
