The life advice about being able to mess up in your 20’s and still have time to move on is really nice to hear. I needed that right now. Although I’m 29, I’m at a low in my life and looking for ways to “start over” essentially. It’s rough but better now then later when I’m older!!
Honestly, it's never too late to start over, especially if you're at an ultimatum in your life where you can't figure out how to keep going. What do you have to lose at that point by just flipping everything over and going a new direction? At least that gives you something to do for a bit longer in life. Plenty of stories of people in their late 40s / 50s who decide to stop their career that they've been doing forever to start something entirely different, like becoming a nurse. People get way too caught up in the moment to moment troubles of their lives. People generally have 80 years in this world to enjoy ....just think of the passage of time that has happened in your first 30 years, all the things that happened as a kid growing up ...as a teenager ....early adulthood. Now imagine experiencing that all over again 2 more times. Instead of "Holy crap half my life is already over, what do I have to show for it?!" it should be "Holy crap 5 year old me felt like forever ago ... and I have so much more time to experience more!" The goal is not to be "ready by 40 years old", the goal is just to live life as you would for the last 40 years. Some people luck out and figure out their timeline early, others later on in life, and some don't put emphasis on timetables or checkpoints ..they just go with the flow. Nobody should be expecting people to be at certain points in their life when the next decade shows up.
@@ToadstedCroaks awww that was so nicely worded! Thanks so much. I definitely put too much pressure on myself sometimes, but I don’t know why. Many of my family didn’t reach a “good successful point” until long after I was born, within their 30’s, and others are struggling even now, who are in their 50’s. I have weird fears that buildup that stem from multiple sources, ranging from medical fears to success-fears. But I just gotta remember to take a step back sometimes and think “you know what, it’ll be ok. Can’t worry about things, just gotta go with the flow!”

The money mindset part of the podcast really helped me coping from my anxieties about the future. I'm currently a college student studying IT and I'm in my first semester. It's the second time that I'm trying to finish college. I failed an exam the third in my 4th semester. I was so close at the finish line and got exmatriculated. That literally killed me inside. Especially now seeing all my friends and loved ones moving on to jobs or creating families. My girlfriend broke up with me too everything is so stressful and there is no real end in sight. I hopefully can regain my footing and move on to something better. It's hard to preserve in a time of a pandemic especially if you don't have any friends around or a family that supports your endeavors. That's simply a part of growing up and I must accept that no one can help me besides myself.
I'm 21, quit studies a few times because of personal issues, family issues, not knowing what I wanted to do, I was pretty much lost. I'm now studying IT in community college as the oldest and only woman in class. I plan to keep going for a higher degree which means I'll be done when I’m nearly 30. Don't compare yourself to others, this is your life and everyone's got their own path. Best of luck :)
Good luck, bro. I just got dismissed last week because i failed my second semester. Basically i dont have the motivation to study because i dont like the course i took. I might try to change the course and take something i like which is music. You can do this, bro. You and me are going to get out of college successfully.
I'm 28 and busy with my second attempt at a degree. It's hard, especially if you're not enjoying what you're studying. But it is possible, go at your own pace and remember why you wanted to study in the first place
I get not having her on camera or open mic, but Meilyne should at least have a Push to Talk setup so we can hear her response when they directly ask her a question!

@@wowzas6992 mmmmaaaaannnn what did you expect to do with your life by then? That's like 18 years of school? So you're out like what a year and some change now at best. For some they finish school in their 20s. You've got time to almost anything you set your mind to man.
You guys have no idea how badly I needed to hear the chat about being in college and indecisive about a career path. Even though it’s hilarious and a massive meme most of the time, you guys are really impacting people out here. :)
What Garnt was saying at the end about there being a place for higher education and that you shouldn't go just to go is so true and speaks to my own experience as well. We often feel like we need to go to university or college right after high school or we'll be failures but from what my therapist has helped me understand is that it's better not to go if you don't actually want to go for some reason. It's often better to go later when you've had some time to figure things out and know what you want to go after instead of pushing yourself to do whatever. It's not true for everyone of course, some people know what they want to do and go do it but for many who don't know what they want to do it can often be better to take time off and try things you're really interested in before taking that big leap. It doesn't matter if you start later than your friends, once you leave high school you're no longer following the same linear path as everyone else as before and that's a good thing. Go out in the world and do what you want. Even if you still decide like Connor said to go to school cause you need to get a job to make money that's okay, you've at least done what you wanted or tried what you wanted to do and don't need to feel that regret later in life. It's just super important not to force yourself to seek higher education until you are ready for it, either because there's something you really want to do or because it's the ends to the means to get you to where you want to be. Not everyone is in the position to do this of course, but if you can, and I believe more people than we think can, do it and take the time to figure out you and learn what works best for you, not what everyone else tells you what they think is best for you. That's something that's really hard to learn in life.

yeah. I finnished school 7 years ago and I still don't know what I wanna do for the rest of my life. I just started studying something because I litereally had no idea what else to do. And in my experience, it's good to take a few internships in different areas. I know it's hard to find something without a more specialized education, but it's still worth the shot because even if you end up hating the work you signed up for, at least you know what you definetly don't want to do.
I just wanna say a huge thanks to the boys and the guests that have appeared on Trash Taste, these podcasts are so entertaining and a really nice boost of energy when I listen to these when i do all nighter uni works. Thank you to the boys🙏
I really enjoyed hearing about “The Money Mindset” segment towards the end. Ik it’s a few weeks back dated but I hope we hear about the topic again. As a college student it’s just really interesting and assuring to hear.
the money mindset was probably the best topic in this episode, I'm in college now and I am only 18. I have a relative idea of what I want to be, but Idk where life will carry me. People tell me not to worry about it too much, but its always in the back of my head and as soon as I turned 18, i felt like life was going way too quick.
yeah. I've been studying for almost 5 years by now and couldn't get to finnish it simply because after a few semesters I realized I just don't wanna do most of this. But when realizing this I was already in for about two years so I thought I had to put through with it somehow, but it was almost impossible for me to get anything done knowing that I don't wanna have to do any of this. Just recently I found a nieche in my field of study where I think I might be happy with a job there which has given me the energy to pull through some hard stuff lately, but it's not gonna be easy to find a job even if I manage to finnish within the next 6 months just because so much time has passed. Yet I feel like it's worth trying, simply because throwing it all away would be a massive waste of lifetime. Job interviews are gonna be interesting though. "So it took you almost twice as long as normal to finnish college. What took you so long?" "Well sir, I'm glad you asked. That is because I'm fucking lazy. Please give me a job." xD

This podcast meant a lot to me personally because I just turned 18 and that comes with a lot of worries like “what am I gonna do for a living? Since I’m not going to college can I still get a good job?” Not knowing what you’re going to do in the future can be very stressful, so I’m happy to know I’m not the only one who hasn’t figured out my path in life just yet and that I have a lot of options.
I don't get closing early policy to prevent covid-19. Like, won't it be more crowded if it's closed early? Won't the people who usually went later, went early because of that? Some countries applying this policy, but what's the thought process on that?

the part where they talked about the money mindset is really very important for anyone who wants to be different and do what they love. To have that kind of mindset early is like a gift really, but it's never too late because life is all a trial and error until you find what you can do best. 1:56:42

that little bit at the end where they were talking about uni hits me hard. i literally have just graduated highschool and it scares me to think that I just dont want the do career path I chose because I also just dont have a backup plan if i dont enjoy that.
Do not worry! There are so many career paths out there like the bois said that even if you don't end up liking what you do in university or further in your educational path, there are so many opportunities available to try and explore. What Connor said about his half Japanese and Welsh friend hit home to me. The no mad life style that I wish to achieve. Even after graduating university in 2020, I might not be the perfect optimist or even have a job in this current moment, but I'm still applying for jobs (granted not as much as I should), but I have discovered more about myself just from listening to this episode of Trash Taste. This one is probably going to my number one spot for sure. Lady Beard is number 2 for me simply because of the untraditional career path aspect and forging something crazy and unique in a world where everybody expects you to go the traditional route.
University is the best place to experiment honestly. If you don't like what you're doing you can just try out other stuff while you're there. You might found out you hate Uni all together and drop out, and that's completely fine. For me, I realized that I do like my major, but I just hated my courses and my professors. Most of the shit I learned while I was in Uni was from online courses, and that's also the reason I even graduated.
Occam's razor means using the explaination that requires fewer additional assumptions. Assuming that Garnt bought that stuff is just using an explaination that matches your preconcieved ideas, these are not the same at all
18:22 Once again Joey is painfully unaware of what's going on in Australia, he's been away for so long. Only Victoria had serious lockdowns, and the worst the rest of the country faced was being allowed to work, get groceries and go to the park, so long as there weren't too many people. Here in the 3rd largest city in the country, Brisbane, we've continued pretty much business as usual even during "lockdowns".

The most dangerous line of thought when snowboarding/skiing: "if a 5 year old can do it, how hard can it be"
The life advice about being able to mess up in your 20’s and still have time to move on is really nice to hear.
Instead of "Holy crap half my life is already over, what do I have to show for it?!" it should be "Holy crap 5 year old me felt like forever ago ... and I have so much more time to experience more!"
The goal is not to be "ready by 40 years old", the goal is just to live life as you would for the last 40 years.
