Liz a friend gave me a cutting of moonstones. I’m not quite sure what to do with it? Just stick it in soil or wait for roots to appear then put it in soil? Or stick it in some water?
In this scenario, after drying the plant for a couple of days, I would get my soil mix, put sand/pumice/granite (about a tablespoon) in the center of the pot, dip the pot in water about an inch or count 3 seconds to wet only the bottom soil, stick the plant in and wait. Rooting takes 2 to 3 weeks depending on the temperature and the season. They prefer temperature between 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. Any hotter, they go dormant. You can also keep them indoor(20 to 30 degrees Celsius) under a lamp or grow light to make them grow faster. Good luck.

According to the "World of Succulents," Pachyphytum oviferum (Moonstones) due to it's pale blue green/bluish purple coloring and resembles more like stones from the moon. The one in this video is Graptopetalum amethystinum(Lavender Pebbles or Jewel Leaf Plant), is described as 'like moon rocks than a plant.' I think this is where the confusion came from.
What a lovely plant! I hope I'll be able to find some ones like that around me! Is there a reason you use the granite as a top dressing? Just because it looks good, or does it have a benefit to it?
I use granite because it's cheap, looks good and also keep the soil moist without getting the succulent roots soak in water. Having top dressing also serves to prevent soil from coming to the surface when you water.

Hi Liz, can I ask a question please...curious why you added more coco peat to the glazed pot? Wouldn’t that retain more moisture and create a higher chance of rotting? I’ve used a lot of glazed pots because I couldn’t grow properly in terracotta as a beginner (I now realise this was due to my soil mixture being too dry and not enough water). I’ve had trouble with glazed pots as well but only if I’ve over potted, lesson learnt!. I’m growing in terracotta now with your master soil mix and everything seems to be going very well plus I’ve learnt how to water..it’s all a learning curve but curious re: the extra coco peat..😊. Thanks
In one of my propagation soil video, I've shown how coco peat retains water while being dry. This way, the baby plant can have access to water if they need it whilst having dry feet/roots. The coco peat will absorb the condensation in glazed pots keeping it away from the roots if the plant doesn't need it yet.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I was wondering what to do with my lavender Pebbles! how old is your mother plant? How long did it take for it to get that size? Mine is still too small to do anything with it's just about 3 in tall but it's not as compact as it should be, I bought it that way so I've really just potted it up and put it under the grow lights and forgot about it for now probably until spring I won't pay any attention to it LOL

Moonstone AKA Pachyphytum bracteosum is longer leaves and purple hue. Blue haze is rounder and bluish pinkish green. Both have nipples at the tip of the leaves and so as Graptopetalum oviferum which can easily be mistaken for LP. Lavender Pebbles on the other hand has no nipple on the tip of the leaf and is much rounder. Hope this video below helps. Hello Liz, my lavender pebbles are reacting very dramatically after a repot from store bought soil to my own soil (perlite, succulent potting mix, akadama), is it normal for them to react that drastically? A lot of the leaves are turning orange, it looks like they are reabsorbing their own leaves.
I too prefer to repot my newly acquired succulents into my own soil, but it all depends on the soil that they came in. A lot of plants need to acclimate in their new area. When I buy new succulents with soil that the plants seem to be happy in at the time, I usually leaves them for at least 2 weeks to get use to their new environment; since drastic change can cause stress and they'll show it by falling leaves or rotting. Since you've already repotted it, best to leave it as is to give it time to settle down. Best of luck.

I never use fertilizer or liquid seaweed solution on my lithops. Since I grow them out in the open, they get their fertilizer from the rain. When it comes to indoor plants, you'd have to find out first what plant you have as most of them have very specific requirements.
No I don't. Plants needs a certain type of bacteria/microbes beneficial for their growth. If you sterilize the soil, you're also killing the good bacteria necessary for plants health and development. The key is to promote more good bacteria than bad so that your plants will be resistant to fungus and diseases. You can do this by giving your plants good food such as seaweed, compost, manure, etc. Some of my potted plants indoors even have natural occurring earthworms. If the worms like the soil, the plant will too.
Love your videos!!! I got a question, i grow my succulents indoors (i’m in PH) under a growlight and almost all of them are doing fine and thriving except for amethystinum. It will be fine first 4 weeks, but after a month it will look sad - part of the leaves attached to the stem will turn super pale green upto the half part of the leaves, the new growth is weird in shape, leaves seem to be more elongated and it will start dropping it’s leaves and sometimes it will become mushy like it will drink it but the leaf falls before it dries out. :( it’s now my 3rd one, the first 2 i placed outside now, they shed all of their leaves but they still look alive. I use ceramic pot and gritty soil mix readymade, i water around 10ml once a wk. any advice? Thanks!
They liked being water rarely but deeply and if they don't get enough water, their leaves starts falling off. I grow mine outside with lots of air circulation and plenty of light and can handle direct sunlight really well. Also "always" check for mealy bugs.

Hi liz! Wondering what's the difference between lavander pebbles (Gp. Amethystinum) and Peach Eggs ( Pachy. Momobijin)? How can you classify the difference in one of each? Thank you!
Pachyphytum Peach Eggs have nipples on the tip of the leaf and Graptopetalum amethystinum have smooth or no nipple on the tip. The flowers are also different. One is more compact(spacing or stack) than the others.

One of the easiest plant to grow. They prefer to be grown outdoors in full sun. Growing period is autumn through spring but will go dormant in summer. The lowest temperature mine has experienced is -11°C. Any colder, I suggest bringing it indoors. Happy growing.

I have mine growing in my 50% UV shade cloth area. Lots of bright light and no direct sunlight. Good luck.

Unfortunately, they won't have any pups but just roots and if left to grow, you'll end up with a massive leaf.

Depends on the size of the roots and plant. Doing it this way with a small plant prevents it from knocking the leaves off or damaging the plant.

What is the best month to propagate the pink moonstone?
