I think I might need to start joking around a lot more.
😂😂😂
My problem is that i cant maintain the movement so to say of my breath. I manage to growl for 5 seconds then i lose the path, my voice cracks, my throat gets dry and i cant repeat the growl until another Lucky attempt
i scream and growl 2 years
@@projectfear22 you're going to shred your throat. It's all from your gut and nasal cavity
It’s definitely how some of your greatest passions can be found. Notice your pull towards certain things, it’s a hint at what you you will enjoy most and master easily. Forget ‘guilty pleasures’, take full pleasure in what you love! I thought my ‘casual interest’ in astrophysics as a teenager was weird at first, but I felt the internal pull in that direction, and here I am, considering pursuing a PhD. 😁
it started as a joke... most people would die to be able to scream like him
Can confirm I am a LoG fan for a very long time I've tried to scream like him for ages still can't do it lol
Cause every voice is different, you just have to find your own sound, like he said don't ever try to copy it is not the way your voice was meant to sound like.
Why not wish to sing like a REAL hard rock/metal singer, such as Robert Plant, Dio, Halford, Dickinson and Cornell?
people do, i wish i did, but a lot of people are into harsh vocalists now and finding someone who sings like that is hard nowadays.
Yeah, Phil Anselmo started that trend, but he was actually a good traditional metal singer as well, at least in his early years. Now all most metal "singers" do is scream, growl and bark, which as Randy admits takes very little talent. Singing like the singers I mentioned above takes not only natural talent, but years of practice.
If he didn't have his dread locks, he would look exactly like a balding chemistry teacher.
That one boi or Andy Dick ... no, that's not fair, no-one deserves to be compared to Andy Dick lol
Cherdley
Or Perry Ferrell
@@leeoliver9322 andy dick and ben stiller
He's like Walter White, but instead of cooking meth he screams in a metalband. This is his Heisenberg form lolll
"People who sit in their rooms and practice screaming are moronic"
I feel personally attacked.
You should
@@RideForLifeCR250R Come on, man. Screaming doesn't come naturally to everyone. The majority of us have to practice. And we have to do it alone as most people would think we were crazy if they heard us making loud monster noises.
Just because he is the singer of Lamb Of God doesn't mean he is right in everything he said, go on, practice, you are doing the things well, life is not the same for anyone. Hug bro.
@@nicolasbehringer Aw, thanks, man. It's nice to see positivity on the internet for a change :)
Not me. I practice in my garage.
This is the first interview I have seen with Randy... He has a very gentle vibe about him. Almost hippy like. Definitely way different than his stage presence. Awesome.
Looking at his IG for his photography I had the same thought - he seems like a chill surfer/skater at heart. But love his scream too.
Go watch "As the Palaces Burn" docu... it really shows his personality
@@eviloverlordsean yup, he's clearly sober here :P
Yeah he used to be an obnoxious fucking dick.
When he drinks though...
I thought he'd speak in like drop g or something like Phil Anselmo
Yo if he did continue smoking he would eventually become like Phil
Voice of Satan= Phil anselmo
ikr?
@@supanutte9357 Phil's got torquey voice nowadays for sure
@@gregorp8406 it was always on the deep side, now it's just gravelly af, which is awesome.
Man said burn the preist 😂😂😂 even though their whole fanbase comes from when the nam changed to lamb of god
masterlinkX97 he probably said that because Burn the Priest has an album dropping. A cover album actually..
When he said Burn the Priest, I was like, holy shit, he's in another band? How did I not know this? Lol. Def gonna check it out though.
ye idk tbh. i get what ur saying but when i 1st heard log was walk with me in hell and i was fukin into it started getting all the cds. but fr most my fav songs are burn the priest songs lol ODHGABFE , subtle arts , black label etc idk lol i feel maybe they stumble upon log then get to hear even better songs via burn the priest. just an opinion tho
priest, not preist.
At least it isn't "Bum The Priest"...... Christ knows, those fuckers do enough bumming already!
Randy's vocals are part of what make Lamb of God so unique. His over emphasis on words just really brings a special sound to their songs that no one else can even come close to.
Unique they were.. the Chris Adler went to friggin megadeath..
DIdn't know Andy Dick sang in a metal band.
groovass65 😂😂💀
Man his demeanor and voice is REALLLLY similar to Andy's its fucking weird.
groovass65 thank you haha
I came here to say this.
It's absurd how much they look, sound and act the same
I’m never prepared for anytime he speaks. I’m always expecting a deep voice but he speaks so articulately. Like an office temp with dreads who’s also a metal god.
His scream is unreal. When I first heard it I thought they put effects/filters or some shit on it. Also, he seems like a real funny, down to earth guy. I honestly didn't expect that.
mmzen I don't like bands like Atreyu or Norma Jean. In fact, mid 2000s metalcore was lost on me completely. Way to make sweeping generalizations. Haha.
Atreyu is good and so is Randy
I talked with him outside the NorVA in Norfolk during a Children of Bodom show. Really chill, funny as hell. Signed his autograph on a landscaping business card he had, told me to give him a call and he’d mow the lawn lol
@Johnny Nonuts
Try screaming like him, it will fuck your voice up. But in impressed by his screams because of how he can scream words so clearly
@mmzen go listen to his range on ruin.. are you fucking deaf or just stupid?
I think Randy's incarceration in Pankrác had a huge effect on him, and as unfortunate as it was considering why he was there, he came out with an entirely different perspective on his life. If you haven't read his book, it's highly recommend.
It is supposed to rehabilitate people. Glad it did in his case
Randy wasn't "rehabilitated" because he never committed a crime, so nothing to rehabilitate. He was imprisoned even though the band put up bail. I just said the experience had a big effect on him, not that he was in any way rehabilitated. If you watch the LoG video As the Palaces Burn, it would probably make more sense, or even better, read his book. It's remarkable.
I knew that my usage of the word "rehabilitate" could cause such a misunderstanding. What I meant was that it made him sober up and have a new outlook about life, and that prisons were first envision to do the same: Change a person so that they can fit into a society and change their outlook about life, and even other humans.
You know when I was watching this video I was thinking to myself how much Randy seems to have changed since his time in that prison... He just seems to have a different look on things. Prison can do that to people. A month after I turned 21 almost 12 yrs ago I got a DUI, I missed a court date and they put a bench warrent out for my arrest and 3 or 4 years later they finally got me. I got picked up on a Friday and I couldn't see the judge till Monday so I had to sit in prison for 3 days. But I didn't know how long I was gonna be in there cuz when I got picked up the said they were gonna take me to the courthouse to see the judge but they took me straight to prison without telling me. So I was clueless for 3 days... I couldn't get ahold of anybody to find out what was going on. They put me on maximum security... I was with people that killed people. All I did in there was THINK! I told myself I'm NEVER coming back to this place! When they called my name to go see the judge... they also called maybe 12 other people and they had us handcuffed to one another in groups of 3, I was handcuffed to this old crazy looking dude that took a shotgun and blew his girlfriend's head right in front of her daughter... I was there for a fuckin DUI... I didn't kill anybody, I didn't hit anybody, I wasn't speeding or swerving... I got pulled over cuz it was July 4th and they had a check point. Prison can change you especially when you don't know what's going on... I can't imagine what Randy went through.
Hey, they don't send people straight to put prison. First, Jail, then sentencing, then you wait to go to prison. So you were in jail. lol
I love how down-to-Earth a lot of metal musicians are unlike a lot of pop and rap artists today. Metal musicians are always so genuine and it makes me so proud to be a metalhead.
3:45 Advice every young musician needs to follow
chris murlock like Greta van fleet trying to be Led Zeppelin. Like do your own original shit man. Make your own unique sound.
Jack M they're not trying to sound like led zeppelin. The singer just has that kind of voice and their influence was Aerosmith. Ya mutt
schmittza I think he sounds more like Geddy Lee than Robert Plant
Randy is such a smart charismatic guy but damn I wish I was lucky enough to be able to scream without practicing
Even if you happen into it, it still takes practice to be able to do consistently. Screaming came easily for me, but if I don't practice or warm up, I'm lucky to get through an entire song before my voice turns dry and raspy.
He definitely practices. Lol
He never said he didn't practice... he said he knew how to do it and it was easy, but in order to get as good as he was, he had to have practiced. He's one of the best screamers of all time. I tried to start learning how when I was in 8th grade or so, having been a metalhead my whole life. My personal taste changed and I grew out of loving more core sounding bands like LoG of other groove metal-ish bands like DevilDriver and shit like that, ditched deathcore, ditched metalcore for the most part, but at the time I loved anything heavy at all, the more the better for the most part. It took me 3 months just to be able to make a sound that sounded LIKE a scream. If recorded properly it actually sounded really good, but in reality it was dog shit. I never could have performed like that without it being a pile of diarrhea dog shit... It took me another year, maybe even 2 or more, before I learned ANY other different way to scream.... I didn't know where I could take it as far as the sounds I COULD make vs the sounds I WANTED to make, so it took a while. It took another year or two after that before it turned into something worthwhile, maybe even longer... my current, and best scream, developed from trying to figure out how to sing clean but still have rasp, and to improve power and force and control overall. I had my scream somewhat down if I had the right posture and support and warmed up properly but I had no true technique, no endurance... Good range as far as my scream went but not as far as capability to project variety. Anyone can scream if they try long enough but who can sing, scream, rap, sing with grit and power like all the biggest metal vocalists did (Hetfield, Taylor, M Shadows, Sully Erna... I'll throw Ivan Moody in there even though he's a dog shit lyricist and his band is generic even if it's heavy (Motograter and Ghost Machine were better ffs) ... Eventually I Got it down and realized singing with grit properly (At least I think.. it sounds good and doesn't hurt, but my range and control aren't at a pro level yet) could be turned into a scream, just how I wanted it. Going through all this personally just to get to a sub pro level, I know DAMN WELL Randy worked his fucking DICK OFFFFFF ... He had to have. There's no other way, whether you have a natural talent for it or not.
Also don't pick me apart too hard.. I know Hetfield didn't scream, I know Shadows didn't rap, etc ... Well, Hetfield screamed once on an album and a few times live but that was it. My point was they all had the grit I was aiming for which was a tool in the arsenal of the variety I spoke of. If you can be diverse I promise screaming can become second nature... just keep trying. If you love it enough it should be natural eventually.
Randy Blythe is one of Andy Dick's best characters.
I’m fucking losing it 😂 I can’t unsee it, oh my god
This is an astounding observation
Randy seems really chill nowadays.
Ikr he seems different lol
Because hes not wired all the time...

It was actually with the help of Melissa Cross from Zen of Screaming that got Randy to the vocalist we know today from Lamb of god
yeah, he had a lot of training so what he says in the interview is bullshit really.
@@WHIPTY Exactly, I can't listen to New American Gospel because the vocals are shit. He got very good later on though.
@DoktorCL exactly. I prefer incoherent Randy.
Came to the comment section to find this one lol
Man, he's in the freaking Zen of Screaming DVD, wtf...
Exactly. I can’t believe he didn’t even mention her. Kinda sucks.
Omg Randy is freakin awesome lol
His vocals are only half of what makes him one of the greatest metal frontmen of all time. His writing abilities are just as impressive.
I found out that I could do screaming vocals when I tried to do batmans voice as a joke. Now I love singing
Just found this band and I love them. Randy has one of the best screams.
I personally recommend Ashes of the Wake and Wrath. Those are my two favorite LoG albums.
theletterB Ashes of The Wake is their magnum opus. I'll give Wrath a listen today.
You can't forget Sacrament!
For fucks sake people! Lest we forget New American Gospel!
Guys, all of their albums...
Awsome episode loudwire
Why hasn’t this happened to me?
Pickle Rick!
Let it be organic
Maybe coz you don't have a baby brother.
It happened to me and I'm a drummer first. Of course then I formed a band where I'm the vocalist
Develop your own sound. If you sound like anybody else, no one will remember your voice. It's all about uniqueness of your tone. Develop your own technique. Make it weird. Make it interesting.
Nice to see that Randy mentioned Bolt Thrower as one of his biggest influences, totally underrated band, in my opinion, the best Death Metal band of history, you can’t overcome their riffs and heavyness. The truly War Masters. Lamb of God and Bolt Thrower have one of the best riffs in metal history.
Death, cannibal corpse and morbid angel are all better DM bands then bolt thrower, not that they’re bad but there’s way better
Ben Saslow i completely agree. Death is the king of death metal for me.
No band comes close to bolt thrower in terms of death metal (except for maybe death on their first 2 albums)
They never sold out or compromised their sound. They stayed doing what they were good at and got better at it.
Ben Saslow Bolt Thrower>cc morbid angel
Gojira's old stuff definitely comes up there as well, esp Terra Incognita.
Although, in the recent years they've shifted more to prog metal, they're still amazing.
But it's better not to confine them to any genre 'coz they tend to incorporate various types in their music flawlessly.
He's my favorite metal vocalist of all time. Not because "he's the best ever" or "his screams are so hard to do" but just the sound of his screams and vocals gives me chills every time.
Randy done drag? 😍 I have to see that
I always love Randy in interviews, he’s just another one of the guys and super super down to earth as well. He’s definitely a dude I would of became friends with if we would of met at any point in our lives, just naturally a good dude for sure, I can tell. Very cool to see guys out there like Randy.
HE ISN'T WEARING A CARGO MILITARY PANTS WTF IS GOING ON
Idk I think there is kind of a duality in what Randy says here... He says this all jokingly like he doesnt take his music very seriously but if you actually pick apart the lyrics of songs like "delusion pandemic" and "hourglass" it becomes clear that he cares quite a bit, maybe not for the growling part or whatever but he has learned to express genuine frustration in this way.
I think thats what a lot of us connect with Randy on, we all need a good outlet for frustration but its important to keep that shit realistic and not take yourself too seriously. Like he said I guess, just chill man. 🤘
my second favorite vocalist started because a joke. wow
hostility Who's the favorite?
Baraka Obama Philip H Anselmo
hostility great choice, Mine is Fred Durst
WAAAAAH-HUAH!, listen up baby.

The way he can smoothly go from a guttural to his nose and head is unreal.
Quoting Pantera: "It's either there when you're born or not."
Great video, Randy has been one of my biggest metal idols for many years. He's always such a humble and straightforward dude
Randy voice : am i joke to you
lmao
HHAHAHHAHAHA
Listening to him talk, you would never have imagined that sound coming from him
"That's moronic bro, I like to chill." Words to live by!
If you close your eyes and just listen to him speak, you can hear Andy Dick channel through him!
jbrdbr111 he looks like him too
such a grounded, level-headed dude who doesn't take himself too seriously. mad respect
This interviewer has such a good approach and manners, he is really pleasant to eyes ears and brain.
I hope he will not get "cool", everything is good right this way.
His screaming actually sounds like a joke. No authenticity, no real passion in his screaming, its fake. Just listen to Devin Townsend, Luc Lemay (Gorguts) or Aaron Turner (isis) 4 example. They are screaming with passion and soul. They are animalic and true as fuck.
Yo it’s my birthday today, just became an adult.
Can U buy me some beer?
Welcome to hell.
You never become an adult my guy... no one does...
Nice, your worst nightmare will start soon
"I think its funny I make a living doing that shit!" xD
Just called every metal fan a giant 3 year old lul!!
Sucks that he acts like the culture is just a joke and the vocalists who practice their craft day and night are just traveling around acting like 3 year olds. Damn.
"Straight for the sun" has the best in my opinion. First time i heard it my jaw just dropped. So brutal.
The whole album is amazing
“Hi I’m Randy from Burn The Priest and you’re watching Loudwire”
Huh. Thought he was from Lamb Of God
They were Burn the Priest before they changed to Lamb of God
Just got into Lamb of god. Can someone explain to me the whole burn the priest deal. Is lamb of god no longer together? Side project?
Chris Calvert burn the priest is cover band and lamb of god play they original song
+soffan khanifulloh the new btp is covers. The first album was not. All the same members. They changed the name to be more accessible
Chris Calvert Burn the Priest was Lamb of God's name before Lamb of God
Lamb Of God started as Burn The Priest. Due to some bullshit they changed the name to Lamb Of God (you have the story in the Wikipedia Fact Or Fiction video with Randy). Now they keep Lamb Of God to play Lamb Of God's original songs and the exact same line-up has like an Alter Ego to play cover versions of songs pf their favourite artists. That Alter Ego is called Burn The Priest
Can't get played on a lot of radio stations with a name like that. Lamb of God was kind of a joke name in a way
Man!! No one can beat your tone!!!
Never enjoyed vocals like Randy's
Cheers dude 🍻
That’s insane. Not only does he not really take it seriously but I went to one of their concerts and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to
*David is one of the best vocalists of all time.*
*Lamb of God is the best metal band ever.*
*Chris Adlers drums are unstoppable.*
the secret to gnarly guttural vocals is smoking 10,000 cigarettes, and drinking tons of whiskey.
do that for 10 years and bam...you sound like matti way on she lay gutted
Someone might knock on the door “are you killing someone in there?” You know what I mean?
Oh boy **wink wink**
I’m gunna start joking about how many blownobs I get
"That's moronic bro, I like to chill!"
I gave up a long time ago on trying to sound like Chris Cornell. I was in my 20s when I realized that I would never do it, he's just too awesome, and the reason is because he sounds like himself. I learned the lesson which Randy here is touching on: stop trying to be like someone else, start finding your own voice. For 20 years I kept at my lessons, developed my abilities, my style. Just for fun the other day I tried singing some Soundgarden songs and found I was crushing every single one. I guess what I'm saying is, you have to at some point abandon your teachers and find your own way. It's only after you've gone down that very long road that you realize you've become your own teacher.
He reminds me of Seth green lol chill ass dude
Ewwy
Is that sweater gold'n'white, or black'n'purple?
saw buzzoven last week with eyehategod they were heavy af
Randy seems like the kind of guy anyone would get along with
Is it safe to classify lamb of God as "Cookie monster" metal
that Metallica "one" wall tapestry makes the one I owned in 1989 kind of sad and melancholy feeling because
It got stolen at a huge keg party.there was like a hundred people in and out of the house throughout the course of the night my Metallica tapestry was gone. and this was in like 1989 when it got stolen from me.
not first
Well, I can relate to this. I used to imitate the zombie noises from COD WAW zombies often when I was in my early teens and eventually when I started to get into metal more, I decided to give a crack at vocal covering some Soilwork and Machine Head songs. Came naturally for me and have done covers ever since.
''guttural vocalist''
shows how much Loudwire journalists know about metal
Randy-"Hey guys want to hear something funny??
NOW YOU GOT SOMETHING. TO DIE. FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRR"
Other band mates- lmao thats a good one. We should use that sometime.

Seeing Randy Blythe sing Laid to rest live was better than winning 1000 dollars. Master at his craft, unparalleled
Think about being at one of his concerts and he just breaks down in the middle of a song and starts laughing and saying stuff like "I can't believe I make a living off of this."
I love the idea of someone seeing this for the first time and thinking "wow, this guy seems pleasant, wonder what his music sounds like" then they listen and are like "WTF?!?!?" Lol
RIP IT AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Tbh he might even be playing with the interview guy, who knows they all have fun with interviews. Let me tell you he takes it VERY seriously when he needs to. Especially when its his income.

Bruno Sanchez Napalm Death 🇬🇧👌🏼
LOG sales just dropped.
Why do you say that 😂😂😂
He's said for years that he prefers punk over metal going as far as calling Lamb of God a punk band. The fact that he considers growling a joke does not surprise me.
Mark Morton their lead guitarist, prefers playing and listening to blues. Metal encompasses so many types of music. Open your ears.
Take a shot every time Randy interrupts the host.
Why does it look like he’s always on wild drugs

wait what
Thank you for saying that fans should sound like themselves...took me a few years into my musical venture to find my own "metal" sound...thankfully I've been to Melissa Cross a few times to improve what I could already do...and Randy is one of my biggest influences..but I learned a long time ago we do not dwell on influence...
Wait he said Burn the priest and not lamb of god? Y?!?

Mike Portnoy Wait, so is Priest a different band? Because I just thought it was the title to a new song.
Everyone knows LOG but few have heard of burn the priest

You can do both
Didn’t this harmless dude kill somebody in Czech republic?
Deven Mellor that honestly feels like the least he could do. I know it wasn’t really his fault since the security was so bad but but if you have been arrested for possible manslaughter I think showing up to the trial is the least thing you can do and don’t turn away and hide.
I was at a Chinese restaurant the other day and they was playing metal and I was growling under my breath little and the waitress comes over and hears it..long story short I got some poos ha
Stfu you lyin ass little 13 year old.
FEEL THE BURN, LOVE THE PAIN!!!
What fucking Chinese place plays metal?
A local Chinese place had a metal show with I think it was 5 bands for 5 bucks on Easter, in a backroom the size of fucking shoe-box. Only band I can recall the name of was Steaksauce Mustache, and nobody was outright bad, just the restaurant's in-house sound tech was sketchy. If this gentlemen referring to his "poos" experience was at said show (or maybe it's not the same), I was the guy with shaved, long hair and a long-coat on the entire 4 hours who screamed "WIGGLE YOUR FUCKING NOODLES!!" during SM's set, and held their singer's hand when he said "I want everyone to hold hands!" and started to do a jumping circle pit.
By the way, there was no "stage", it was literally just the front portion of the back room, which also resulted in the first band's singer trying to stand on a table, and he immediately fell off the edge because it was so unstable, and he about deep-throated his mic. It also sucked, space-wise, because there was literally about 70-80 people shoved in this room, and many people (myself included) ended up getting moshed into the edges of tables, or people that were outside the pit. One poor kid got blasted into a table, the guy pushed him off, and he landed elbow-first into my shoulder when I was fist-pumping, and I'm amazed I didn't dislocate my arm. I even watched some girl in a dress nearly have a concussion from this shirtless dude bumping her face-first into a table, one guy lost a tooth, and one guy near me chipped his tooth from an elbow to the face.
Yeah, it was a time. Shout out to anyone that was there, though! :)
LMAO! This is RUclips, not missed connections...haha

Jk Randy you’re alright
Giving off those Andy Dick "In the Army Now" vibes 😂
I was just thinking he looked like Andy Dick 😂😂
His screams are so unique and I've grown to absolutely love them
Jokes aside Jesus loves this owe but damn I don't... Must learn love... Must learn love must learn love must learn love
If Randy Blythe turned out to be related to Andy Dick, I wouldn't be surprised....
Metalheads: Screaming is certainly a talent that has to be developed and practiced, not everybody can do it and should be respected.
Randy Blythe: I've been always able to do this and is a joke to me.
Hearing metal vocalists speak normally is so bizarre.
I dunno if it's just me, but hearing his natural voice has changed how I perceive lamb of God's music. Mainly because my perception was he'd have a deeper throatier voice especially after hearing the more talkative intros on some songs
Most brutal shows I've ever been to...bruised my friggin spine at a LoG show. lol
Ooff, don't let my old classmates see this video. I can just see 'em going on like 'See I told you metal screaming is easy!'
