  • This video highlights some memorably days I recently spent watching the last seagoing Paddle Steamer in the World. PS Waverley. Its always a thrill for me seeing her and I recall childhood memories of being on her and her sister ship the Dutchess of Hamilton on day trips "Doon the Watter"

Hi Donny A tremendous film of the PS Waverley and I am old enough to remember one of my favourites The Duchess of Hamilton. I can also recall the hey days of 50's and 60's when the Clyde was full of wonderful craft. I remember during the school holidays going on the Duchess from Gourock to Campbeltown! Regards Crawford

A lovely video Very well made and the views alongside her are outstanding. It certainly must of been one of your best days out ever on the 2nd boat. The old girl still has a good turn of speed, I have seen many small craft trying to race her and like you not having much luck. Thanks for sharing your delightful video.

Nice touch puting in the Waverleys paddle beats. She has occasionally sailed the dog leg at the Narrows if tide is high enough. Excellent camera work and the very appropriate music later on.

Fabulous! We came through Corryvreckan Yesterday. We had it slightly more exciting. I have been on the Waverley when she took the Wood farm Channel at the Kyles of Bute. We also did a circuit of Glas Eilean in Long Fyne. Must do a Waverley west coast trip. Have only been on the Clyde.

Fantastic Donny, some wonderful photography/videography there. Quite takes me back a lot of years, only been on her the once as a kid, but my uncle used to take a lot of trips out on her and the other paddlers on the Clyde. Wife was watching over my shoulder and asking when am I going to take her out on her.

@@donnywilcox We had a great time out on Loch Lomond. When I was a young lad my father kept a boat on Loch Lomond and we had some fantastic trips out on the Loch. I'm just gently introducing my wife to boats in general, when we first met I sold off my last boat as my to be wife got sea sick quite easily, now she has been out on the canals in Holland and loved it, a friend and sailor from Helensburgh got her to go out with her for a short cruise and now she is coming round to the idea of being afloat 🙂
We got a bit sunburned on the Silver Marlin out on the Loch, but had a great time, 2 hours was far too short! She even suggested taking the evening cruise too, but we had too much to do before our flight back in the morning. So yes, it has been a success, maybe one day we will wave as we pass each other on Loch Etive.
In watching some of your videos I recognise where you are, one of my father's friends used to live in the same row of houses a while back, he moved there from the Hotel in Dunbeath in the 1970s.

We sailed doon the water last Friday on her Donny , my son and now daughter got married on her and a wonderful experience it was .
Highlight of my trip apart obviously from the ceremony , was being invited up on to the bridge with the newly weds , a rare occurrence . One of those “ pinch me am I dreaming “ moments . To stand on the bridge , hands on the tiller and in control of the Waverley is a memory never to be forgotten....one of those rare moments in life where the history of the ships past, surrounded and engulfed me . Thanks for sharing another very special vlog 🥃👍and I’ll share this with the newlyweds and family . Cheers Donny 🥂🍾
