Loch Linnhe and Loch Leven by Inflatable Cabin Cruiser
Mid July and the Scottish weather was still very fickle. Cold north winds gusting to 30mph and often rain. So when a couple of nice days arrived I had to get out in the boat and make the most of things. This time I headed up Loch Linnhe to Loch Leven and had a great time. The video tell the tale ..hope you enjoy it :-D

Islands of Coll Gunna and Tiree .. continued

The second and final part of my first multi day adventure in the Inflatable Cabin Cruiser. It worked a treat and despite its size is very comfortable for me. The big plus was no disturbed nights from wandering cows, stags ..or warewolves ..and not a single insect bite :-D

My inflatable cabin cruiser passed its sea trials at Lismore with flying colours so it was time to head to sea for a real adventure. I spent 4 days going round Coll and Gunna with a visit to Tiree and this is part one of that adventure. The weather was very fickle ..Hail..rain.. sun ..calm seas ..strong winds ..you name it I encountered it. What has happened to July sunshine ?

    What a great mini-break Donnie, and thanks for the detailed explanation on the running mooring set up, I'd like to sort something similar out that allows me to 'park-up' overnight somewhere uninhabited without the fear of running aground - a trip to the chandlers needs scheduling I think..... I went to Alisa Craig last week from Largs (a bit of a trek, but I was also fishing reefs and wrecks on the way), it was amazing to see up close, I didn't go ashore this time, but will re-watch your video if I decide to venture back there and climb to the summit! Hope to see another video soon if the weather allows....cheers 👍

    Hey Donny, Pollack are a great eating fish but you just have to be a bit creative. Why not try this recipe mate…. Melt a good knob of butter in a frying pan, add finely chopped onion and garlic and fry till soft. Then add a small tub of double cream, some finely chopped spring onions and 1/2 glass of white wine. Simmer for 15 mins and add salt and black pepper to taste, then some chopped or dried parsley. Then lay your fish pieces in the sauce and simmer till cooked, you just may change your mind about eating Pollack mate. The same sauce also works great with chicken too.

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox 2 дня назад

      That sauce sounds wonderful Jack and I suspect I will try it with chicken. My problem is Im spoiled with fish.. I still get a lot of wild trout and Im very partial to mackerel too ..often landing and frying the fish on shore before riga mortise sets in. They taste so much better that way. Pollack that way are just tasteless mush to my mouth. A friend likes them but he freezes them first and then when they thaw that firms up the flesh..so he tells me ..but Im not fond of cod either and its a favourite for many. Now .. the Oban chippie or Norries chippie.. I could eat their haddock till I burst. I was brought up in the north and staple diet back then was salmon straight from the rivers .. I had that much real Atlantic salmon I would have swapped them for sassages. Changed times now ..its around 15 years since I caught my last salmon ...few left now Thanks for commenting 😀

      I think I will try this , like Donny I find the flesh of pollock very mushy . I did eat it it France one time in a restaurant, I didn’t know it was pollack until I had finished it , it was actually very good , if too had been cooked in some kind of sauce.

    Brilliant stuff, Donny; you've got it all dialed in. If you get a wee bottle of Permethrin at an ag. or livestock shop and mix 10 oz. of water to 1 oz. of Permethrin, you can make your own DEET that is more effective at a fraction of the price. Also, look at Wiggy's sleeping bags for sleeping on the boat. He is in the US (in Colorado) so shipping might be a bit dear, but he makes the best bags for the cold. I've been using his stuff for years, in the mountains and on the sea, and you will stay warm and dry, I promise. I would suggest a Super Light (or an Ultima Thule, if you are really cold). The bags aren't dear but I don't know about shipping. I love your adventures and have just subscribed. Good on ya, pal!

    Hi Donny, I have just returned home after spending 9 days on Loch Awe. Weather was mixed but a few days of sunshine and flat calm waters. It does not matter if I catch a fish or not, it is the experience of being out there on the water watching the beautiful scenery. It is so nice to watch your videos as it takes me back to when I am on the boat. I also visited the newly renovated pier at Inveraray. That was lovely to see. One of my annual excursions is a trip into Oban for fish and chips....what a delight. This year was my 50th year of visiting Scotland and I cannot wait to return again soon. Nice video. Regarding your running mooring are you not worried the line will snag in your pipe? I use a mooring buoy that has a steel rod through buoy with eyes each end of rod. Line to anchor chain is tied to lower eye. Through upper eye I have the line that goes to the shore. This line is spliced and forms a ring line for easy retrieval of boat.

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox 3 дня назад

      Hi tkaald ..I guess the answer is I wouldn't use a pipe on a floating buoy if I worried it would jam. I have used this method regular ever since my previous method..which incidentally ... was a rope through a ring on a floating buoy kept twisting and caused problems. A few friends also moved away from the ring on buoy method as they also had issues of rope twisting and jamming. Some adopted the pipe method while others adopted the bungee warp method. I can only suggest you keep using your method if it works for you.. my thoughts are no method is totally reliable ..so can only suggest whichever way you are more comfortable with. Just be aware there are many ways to skin a cat ..which is why I included the pipe method.. I didn't invent it..it was passed onto my by another person who also had issues with the ring on buoy way. ..Thanks for commenting ..appreciated 😀

    Love your channel so much. Ive explored a lot of those areas on a 10ft boat with a 25hp engine camping ashore. Heavenly memories. One small thought. The weird creepy music that accompanies your drone footage is a bit unnerving. I'd suggest something a little warmer and upbeat. I hope you dont mind me saying this and just my thoughts. You voice and narration is golden. 👍👍

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox 3 дня назад

      Hi dougjacksonart ..thanks for your kind word on my video ..they are appreciated. I can understand your thoughts on the drone background sound so let me explain. At one stage in my life, I played in a local pub band (for around 15 years) ..weekend work as it wasn't my main job. One Friday night were played a big wedding function at the Post House hotel outside Glasgow airport. We played Scottish and Irish type music As soon as we started playing, folk started complaining about our set. That didn't help the band play their best so it wasn't a pleasant experience for us or them. The following night we played in the Tyndrum hotel. We did the exact same set as the previous night ..however this time the different audience loved us and didn't want us to leave at the end of the night. Some locals said we were the best live pub band they had heard there. I guess Im trying to say..music is subjective..once you have performed in public for a few years you know you cant please everyone so I just accept that is how it is. I honestly wish I could produce music for the drone shots that everyone enjoyed ..but I cant so you will just have to accept that. I could write and perform a warm upbeat song..as I have tried in other videos..and you may enjoy it but there will be others that don't.. that's music for you... example I cant listen to Edd Sheeran but millions love him. I try to vary the background music in ever video box set. For this video I intentionally did not play music..its just a soundscape made from a sampled helicopter ..sampled wind chime ..a friend chanting my name Donnie.. and some gentle humming sounds. I kept it very low volume so as not to upset anyone. I did intended it to be haunting so glad you confirmed it worked even though I know you didnt like it. I find the islands of Glencoe a very haunting and moving place to be so that drone soundscape came from inside me. Its an audio expression of how I felt that day. I often think I hear a voice from the past calling me to these beautiful remote areas which is why I often use a voice chanting donnie in my drone shots plus the helicopter sample for obvious reasons. I see you are a painter so will hopefully understand about personal style.. would you change because someone didn't like your style ? Would you paint a warm upbeat picture if your intention was to paint a somber mood? I hope you can understand my perspective of it now and I sincerely hope you will stick around and enjoy the parts of the videos you do enjoy. Thanks again for your comments..appreciated 😀

      Its called the "Anode Trim Tab" if you google that you should find something suitable. It is a small adjustment "tab"to keep the boat running straight due to the torque of the propeller which can slightly turn the boat. Outboard will work fine without it but you do want the anode as it stops the outboard corroding..hope that helps
