Fantastic video, showing Scotland at its very best. We are so lucky having great scenery. You should be proud of yourself, sharing your adventures with all. 👏👏
Thanks charles ..it was sometimes a long hard journey this summer because of poor weather but this trip was fantastic weather..only lasted a few days though 😀
Ahoy there Donny, you’ve bought back some lovely memories of my time there. I’m an Australian, married to a girl from Lochaber. Working there, We were at the creels, fishing for langoustine for the export market. A bit nomadic, sometimes at Carrabost, sometimes into Malaig, sometimes in the Lee of Eigg, Muck Rhum Coll or Canna. Summertime with the Gulf Stream and the miraculous warm water, the most hideous stingers coming off the hauler made for a tough workout. It’s an amazing part of Scotland. Truly remarkable landscape and as someone described above, could be the end of the world. We now live in Sydney Australia but get back over fairly often. Good times but hard bloody work. Thanks mate for your exploration and allowing me to see it all again vicariously.
Donny, theses videos are amazing. Earlier this year we travelled a lot of the North West Highlands in our campervan. It's lovely to see it from a different perspective and see places we couldn't get to in our van. Thanks for sharing.
I love it Donny when you sail around this area, for the last 6 years in early September I have a two week holiday on the north coast of Ardnamurchan. Almost everyday (between the rain of course) I will pick the binoculars up and scan across the sea to Muck, Eigg and Rum. Through your videos I have got in site in to the coastline/beaches etc on these islands which I thank you for.
Its my pleasure showing these places alex .. its great getting the footage..putting the video together and writing the music to go with it..it passes my retiral years very well :-D
Donny...another fantastic video, thank you so much! On my first visit to Canna as a boy, the Laird, John Lorne Campbell came alonngside our boat and gave us 2 huge crabs fo our supper. 2 days later we were invited for afternoon tea at the big house where his American wife fed us royally and gave us a tour of their property and collections of butterflies. Canna is a magical place! Many thanks for these amazing videos which take me back to my childhood and the years thereafter!
Enjoyable video, took me back to my family travels in our converted ring netter during the eighties and nineties, superb voyage in such a small craft, well done.
That's a pretty epic day! 90 miles is very good going, you certainly deserved those beers, that fire and the view. I must make it to Canna some time and leave a shell of my own. Would you ever trailer your boat to Barra for example and do a bit of the outer Hebrides? I know the conditions would have to be perfect given the exposure there.
Naw .. I have never been to the outer Hebrides .. I keep telling myself..why go so far and risk poorer weather when there is so much still to see..closer to home 😀 Excuses I know ...
A wonderful video Donny you inspire me a lot with the trip you make in your boat this august and successfully made the trip to rathlin island from my local harbour of carnlough on the east Antrim coast on my 1960s westerly sailing boat I am new to sailing but the best way to learn is on the water next year God willing I intend to get to Islay or perhaps up into the Clyde thanks again
Came across your videos and what am amazing place to explore. I have a cruising dinghy but never seem to see a good weather report like you seem to get. There must be a secret to it. Appreciate your time putting it together for all your viewers. Well done and just beautifully put together
Absolutely tremendous Donny, there's life in the old sea dog yet. That was one heck of a day out & it's good to see plans can be changed on the hoof too. Well done again & I for one hope you get back to Sanday, it looks great.
It was a long day Ashley..and I was surprised to see how much it took out of me when I saw myself hobbling around on Canna ..but I would do it all again tomorrow..if the weather was the same 😀
Ardnamurchan - best anchorage in the isles . On the point is an Iron age house complex below ground . Complete with hearth , stone dresser shelf storage and stone bed surround ready for the heather mattress . Sat in there and time travelled Add a roof and you are cosy for a Scottish winter 😂😂
Brilliant Donny most enjoyable. If you tried to scare people who have soft hull boats well it worked with me. Those Dolphine backs looked so sharp cutting through the waves so what would it do to my honwave V floor. Just a question if you don't mind Donny about your filming. Do you use a stabiliser with your editing or is it a built in one with the camera? Many thanks Ray K UK YNWA.
Yeah..the dophins can be a pain at times Ray..especially if Im using the smaller F Rib and the sea is bouncy..they dont mind rough water ..so I slow and they soon get bored and leave 😀
Hello Donny, I live on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and have been watching your videos for a while. I was ,most impressed at such an adventurous trip in your rib. For a while I lived on Eilean Shona and had an Orkney Longliner but I was never confident enough to attempt your kind of trip. I was wondering, what length is your rib and what size outboard do you have on it? I did notice the auxiliary which I thought was very wise.
Hey..you will enjoy seeing your old haunt in the video I just uploaded nathaire ..I go to Loch Moidart ..in the next one.. then.. not uploaded yet..I land on Eilean Shona ..so you will recognise the places I went :-D The boat is 4m long 25 HP main and 3.2 Aux ..I have gone round the inner Hebrides for many year is inflatables.. as long as weather holds its no problem..if it blows up.. well I have been stuck several times on land until I can get going again..all part of the adventure..and I cant drown if I land and wait it out 😀
Hello Donny, thanks for another great video. I recently bought an alurib and intent to use it with my existing short shaft 20hp Honda. You've inspired me to undertake some longer passages. I appreciate there are many factors that influence fuel consumption. However, I'm keen to know how many litres of fuel you burn on average at low planing speed in a calm sea? Cheers for now.
It varies that much as you know david so beware .. my figures could mislead you ..I carried 100 litres of fuel for this trip which was almost 200 miles long..just to give an idea :-D
Its very remote boatsandoutboards ..but that is the attraction for me. It would be very different on a cold wet miserable winters day..that would drive me to staying home 😀
Fantastic trip Donny, the season seems to have passed so fast this year, thank you for all your films this year
Hi Ian..yup..its been a quick year ..Im thinking about buying Xmas pressies already 😀
