Well yet again Donny you have knocked it ou the park with another great episode. I can only concur with you on the dreadful summer we've all been experiencing thus yet , weather you Scots describe as being " A bit pish" i believe lol. As for your camping arrangements, i can only say i was a bit alarmed at first glance thinking they looked a bit coffin like (and your far to young and have much more content to share first) but was totally surprised yet also totally not surprised by your ingenuity when you fully popped up the structure to reveal a fairly modest but somewhat practical one man sleeping arrangement, i hope it serves you well. But with fairly dreich weather you give us yet again another great 20 minutes of Scotland for all of us that miss your beautiful country. I can only wish you fair weather and following seas to help make more great content for us all to watch what were all missing. Take care my friend
Lol..your comment made me laugh aloosnackbar. I slept in my car all my days following hillwalking hobbies etc. Some friends used to comment on my sleeping in confined spaces habit and I always replied.. "Im going to be dead and in a coffin one day and for a long long time. Im just getting used to sleeping in one :-D
I kayaked right around Lismore back in the 1970s. Camping on Mull on the way round. Nice to see it all again. The small islets were just beds of primroses. Very beautiful. Your rubber cruiser looks wonderful.
FANTASTIC, i love Scotland (im English ), the scenery and the friendly people, cant think of a better place nor pursuit than ive just watched. Thank you, have subscribed.
Well you certainly made a good job of your cabin cruiser. I've tried various version with my inflatable boat around Lochlong and Lochgoil. Sometimes turning the boat upside down on the beach with a midge hood. Slept well. Great video thanks and very informative.👍👍 🏞🌄
Great video Donny. Must say Ive been watching and enjoying all your videos for a long time now. I have the f-rib 360 and have been round lismore etc with family on sightseeing runs out as well as plenty of fishing missions around scotland, north wales and cornwall. Launching from Taynuilt or Tralee bay when in scotland. Reading your posts on the fribs and sibs forum was partly the reason I bought the f-rib and ive had many great adventures over the years in it. So for that I thank you. ❤
Hi yes. The f-rib 360 is the 3.6m version. Its the sweet spot size for me. Can fit 2 or 3 fishing plus gear but can easily be hand launched with transom launch wheels (beachmaster wheels in my case).
Nice little set up there, we camped on Lismore last summer Hopping about on our Kayak, I have to agree the west Coast Ticks are wee buggers I had two in my groin, nearly died when I found them, extra careful now, Isle of Eigg this year in August just hope the weather gets better 🙏
Thank you, Mr. Wilcox, for taking the time to share this with us. I enjoyed watching it all come together. Play safe from Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada.
It's a great country. Our forefathers were stoic people who built so many wonderful, big structures with minimal tools. History - stunning.. and a neat Boat Camper
That’s GREAT Donny, my S.I.B is only 3.8m but I am only 5ft4 so suits me. I’ve been house boat camping many time and it’s exceptionally comfortable. I don’t have the luxury of your tent skills or ideas but I sleep the opposite to you, using my 2 Berghaus V blow up mattress plus blow up pillow. My front is one of those blow up with flysheet for S.I.Bs and I use my waterproof full length boat cover. It suits me but I was thinking last year to buy a boat tent cover I see the USA fly fishing guys use. Brilliant video I love watching all your stuff and passed it on to 5 other people who watch now regularly.. Thanks for sharing, Ray K YNWA.
Brilliant stuff, Donny; you've got it all dialed in. If you get a wee bottle of Permethrin at an ag. or livestock shop and mix 10 oz. of water to 1 oz. of Permethrin, you can make your own DEET that is more effective at a fraction of the price. Also, look at Wiggy's sleeping bags for sleeping on the boat. He is in the US (in Colorado) so shipping might be a bit dear, but he makes the best bags for the cold. I've been using his stuff for years, in the mountains and on the sea, and you will stay warm and dry, I promise. I would suggest a Super Light (or an Ultima Thule, if you are really cold). The bags aren't dear but I don't know about shipping. I love your adventures and have just subscribed. Good on ya, pal!
Thanks for the comments and info user-vx5 ..much appreciated and delighted you subscribed . Yup..that Permethrin sounds great. I still have a couple bottles of DEET as I get them from a mate who works in the Forestry industry ..but once they are used I will def try Permethrin 😀
Another great DIY job to your boat. Loved seeing the sites around Lismore again. I miss sibing around it as I did last year. It's a lovely island. Really enjoyed watching. Thanks Steve 👍

That's fantastic. I'm fairly new to your channel, I got a honwave back in May and found your channel after searching for SIB adventures/camping. I think you do brilliant videos. I'm heading a little your (gatehouse dumfries) way on the 12th for 3weeks with my honwave for our annual summer hols I will be using the honwave to explore the old smugglers spots n the slowly.

Gosh..we almost met then ian..I was going to cross there as the wind was from the WNW ..but it proved ok in the cove on Lismore. Next week is still forecast rain but lighter winds and warmer temperatures..so I hope to head up the Sound of Mull on Sunday..then follow my nose from there for a few days 😀
Sometimes it takes awhile for the penny to drop. Weather is rubbish here in Herefordshire also, Loch Awe midges are vey demanding of blood also. Shieldaig Fairy Pools are a close second.
Yup.. there is little sign of weather improving yet Gawdon .. but the cold and strong winds are keeping midges away although the ticks are still lurking in the long wet grass 😲
I have just though about scrolling back to see how long you have been doing your videos and came to you first and second 5min long videos of exploring the solway to ross iland and back, i know the area well i have been going every year since i was 2weeks old, turns out you stayed on cardoness site next door to where i go. Fantastic area. Maybe il bump into you 1day if i havnt already without realising it.
Yup..my parents had a caravan at cardoness and as a kid we went there every year..my bro still has a caravan there ..lovely peaceful part of the world mark 😀
Nice work, almost glamping! It does appear that the consol rather gets in the way, restricting access from sleeping to living space? Great advantage of an inflatable is to be able to get close to shore, though with the solid bottom are you still at risk from damage on the rocks? If anchoring and going ashore, what we used to do, say at a beach with a heavy dinghy, is to have an anchor that was just a weight, enough to keep the boat in place, but light and smooth enough to be able to pull in with the shore line. A further trick is to balance the weight on the front of the boat then push her out, pulling on the shore line causing the weight to drop when in deep water.
Hi mark..yup..the consol can get a bit in the way. Sleeping area is fine but rear of boat could do with a bit more space. Unfortunately the console which I also made and designed..holds all my camera equipment ..keeping it dry and always at hand ..so I cant do away with it. Thanks for the anchor info too..I also use those methods at times but find a running anchor on a buoy never snags and is now my preferred method. I will hopefully get round to a video on all the ways that I anchor :-D Thanks for commenting..much appreciated
Just stumbled across your channel and thoroughly enjoyed your video, not too sure about the music choice for the drone, but the shots themselves were great. Do you have another video about the boat itself or is that still to come? Thanks for sharing 👍
Yes…global boiling has truly hit us this so called summer. Apart from that stuff….what a great adaptation to your vessel. Ticks and midges are definitely to be avoided. A great solution Donny, very innovative.
I was out Coll way last week also loch Sunart..and really surprised there were few midges..I guess that bitter cold N wind is thinning them out..plenty ticks everywhere though..well except on me now Im in the boat tent 😀
I will be happy if Im still alive and making videos this time next year Maximusbegg .. money doesnt do much for me ..assuming I have enough for my gravy and petrol..its all I need 😀
Great idea Donny. Having read your reply to me in the Mull part 2 video I have purchased three bottles of “jungle formula” deet spray which I will be spraying all over my clothes/tent etc. when I go kayaking/camping to Mull later this month although it sounds like deet is not 100% effective at keeping the bloody things off you ☹. I have also being doing a little bit of research and it sounds like Permethrin is quite good but I can’t find anybody in the UK who sells it. Keep the videos coming though, I love em😀.
Try the Purple Turtle . I bought midge netting from them last year and fast service. The local fishing shop in Oban sells gaiters with a "built in repellant" for ticks. However they cost a fortune and Im sure they are normal gaiters sprayed with permethrin. Think I will order some now you mention it www.purpleturtle.co.uk/product-category/insect-protection/insect-protection-permethrin-clothing-treatment/
Fabulous Video Donny, thenk you. Your should patent your design for the on board tent! What was that music playing when flying the drone? All the best.
Hi Roger..glad you enjoyed the video ..incuding the music. I write my own music now to avoid copyright strikes on RUclips...using my Yamaha Keyboard and also a sampler..this was one of my own songs :-D
Its not so hard to make one nick .. some waterproof material then glue it with seam grip or aquaseal glue ..its a great thing for me and Im using mine a lot now :-D
I wouldnt know what to do with millions richpedley ..im just happy the tent works on the boat ..so Im easy pleased ..thanks for commenting..appreciated :-D
I have three anchors on board at all times..main anchor is a 2kg plough ..also a 1kg bruce ..and last but not least a folding grapnel ..hopeless for the bottom but great for sticking into the beach when I want one on land 😀
Ha ha! I was watching last videos and thinking "why doesn't he sleep aboard hard core Dinghy Cruising Assoc. Style It's a nice big stable platform"...Turns out you already on it! Will keep an eye out if we are ever in your patch. (Trad boats and Wanderers - Sleeping ashore, Wanderers a bit wee for that malarky!)
My late father offered me his wayfarer when he got too old for hauling it about..I turned it down though but often wonder about getting a dinghy again cosybike 😀
More room would be very welcome assuming the bigger boat did what I wanted Peter 😀 I have found all boats are a compromise and there is no perfect solution for me. My requirement of a boat is lightweight and can float in a few inches of water simply because I am always landing and exploring the coastline as I go. Something bigger boats cant do so easily. My late father had an E Boat yacht and my bunk in the bow was no bigger than this boats space ..although it had more room to more around in the back. Two years ago I was talking to a guy in his yacht moored off Kinloch Castle on Rum.. I was in my boat. Sadly I read in the papers that he drowned the following day .. presumably getting into his tender from the yacht. So a larger boat is not neccessary safer either. news.stv.tv/highlands-islands/search-for-missing-man-andy-samuel-stepped-up-after-dinghy-found-off-isle-of-rum. As my ex used to say..its not the size..its what you do with it that bothers me 😀
@@donnywilcox Fair points Donny, (and a great job making that boat-tent btw). It was a kind of Jaws reference anyway lol Sad story indeed about Mr Samuel. Tenders are always a chance for mishap and sadly the occasional tragedy.
Yup..it certainly wobbles like a waterbed waterboy. :-D The fish pens are still in the bay but I have not seen any boats around them for a couple years now nor any signs of fish in the pens. The farm further south from Coeffin Castle is still being used though.

Its not so hard to make one nick .. some waterproof material then glue it with seam grip or aquaseal glue ..its a great thing for me and Im using mine a lot now :-D
This is very different, well done
Thanks brianclarke ..much appreciated
Looks marketable… I hope you make millions with little effort 🎉
I wouldnt know what to do with millions richpedley ..im just happy the tent works on the boat ..so Im easy pleased ..thanks for commenting..appreciated :-D
Superb Video great music..
Thanks chris ..much appreciated :-D
Very impressed with your new "sleeping berth" onboard! What sort of anchors do you use?
I have three anchors on board at all times..main anchor is a 2kg plough ..also a 1kg bruce ..and last but not least a folding grapnel ..hopeless for the bottom but great for sticking into the beach when I want one on land 😀
Nice set-up
Thanks mountainclawoutdoors ..appreciated 😀
Pretty cool, would like to get 4-5 of them together and do the U.S. Intercoastal Waterway.
I would love to do the intercoastal waterway chriskelly ..it would be a real adventure .. if I lived in the us..it would be a definite trip
Thanks Donny.
Thanks to you too guspaul ..appreciated 😀
A very good video
Thanks davisscott ..appreciated 😀
I thoroughly enjoyed that! What's the artist of the intriguing music?
I disktuna..its one of my own songs.. I play keyboards and have a sampler as another hobby of mine ..thanks for commenting :-D
Absolutely loved the music you chose and the way you used it, made it easy to grasp, a little, how it may have been all those centuries ago.
great job. thank you from manhattan ©2024
Good to see folks from the other side of the world watching my videos ..so thanks VictoriaAlfredSmythe 😀
Looks great
Thanks fat_tommo ..its great.. gcan get a little noisy with water slapping the hull at night ..but apart from that its perfect 😀
@donnywilcox yes my boat can be noisy too in the same way
It was lovely I envy you!
Excellent.
Thanks Mrgingerdread..appreciated 😀
Nice video.
"We're gonna need a bigger boat...". Lol
It was a kind of Jaws reference anyway lol
Sad story indeed about Mr Samuel. Tenders are always a chance for mishap and sadly the occasional tragedy.
Fantastic boat tent, similar to RUclipsr RoKKiT KiT 👍
Thanks richythin ..I googled Rokkit Kit and he looks an interesting channel so will give him a watch when I get a bit of time 😀
Love the setup, ticks are not insects by the way they are actually arachnids. like spiders
Thank for the head up worldsurvivalist ..regardless of what they are..I hates them :-D
You've almost got a waterbed. I thought that bay was full of fish farm gear.
Yup..it certainly wobbles like a waterbed waterboy. :-D The fish pens are still in the bay but I have not seen any boats around them for a couple years now nor any signs of fish in the pens. The farm further south from Coeffin Castle is still being used though.
@@donnywilcox haha! I miss my waterbed! I'll need to take a look in and see if I can anchor, I've anchored many a time in Port Ramsey.
Parry Handy hasn't a chance against Handy Donny😅
lol ..I used to love watching para handy alistair ..perhaps the tv series helped inspire my video series..eh jim lad ?
just crackin 👍
