    For me, X ranks near the best of the franchise for a reason you can't possibly plan or program for. It just happened to come out at a good time in my life to play this. I was 15 that summer and had my first legit full time summer job, so I was looking for something to play in my spare time to fill the gaps between work and this had come out like a few months prior. Picked it up and I basically spent that entire summer either working or playing this. Still one of my better summers. I mean, it helps that the gameplay, music and story were all excellent, but the timing is really what cinched it as one of the most memorable games I've ever played

      While 10 is good, saying a game is the best just because it happens to be the one you like is not a real argument.
      10 is a good FF. May be great even.
      But to determine what game is the "best", a dispassionate comparison needs to be made.
      It is great you love this game.
      I imagine you enjoyed it a lot.

    I finished FFX this year, to me it is the best story game I have ever played in my life. Played the HD remastered version on my Xbox Series X in 4K, such a beautiful game. I mean visually but to be honest, the story is really the thing that's the most beautiful. I must say that for anyone considering to play this game that this game is a masterpiece, I consider it works of somone like Shakespeare. If you play the first hour and you love the characters Tidus and Yuna...then this is the game for you. There is no need to play FFX-2, the story in FFX is concluding on its own and is the way I prefer along with others. This game was so touching, one that I will never forget. An absolute amazing breathtaking ending that no other game can compete. This game is long, a Tip I can give you is to use a walkthrough on all the puzzles as they become almost impossible, you can try the first ones on your own for fun. Also remember to train properly instead of skipping battles. At any time if the game gets hard, go to a walkthrough...this is especially important near the end. If you do not end up finishing the game by playing, finish it via watching the videos on youtube. I was so touched by the story of Tidus and Yuna that I made a video to share for everyone.
    Spoiler: Only watch if you have beat the game or are not interested in playing the game but would like experience a taste of the story, through your own interpretations.

    The only Final Fantasy I’ve ever beaten. I loved this game, I got it with my PS2 for Christmas the year FFX came out. I’ve tried others, but this game really hooked me for some reason. It also led me to love Kingdom Hearts, solely because I’d been told Tidus showed up, and I gave it a shot and loved it.

Ahhhhhhh! It drove me nuts I went out of my way to get a playguide for it, drove me absolutely nutty, oh and that hammy forced laughter scene with Yuna that was incredibly cheesy, gosh I miss traditional final fantasy, don't get me wrong the 7remake is still good, just miss ye ol final fantasy, cheers for covering this, oh it brought back so many memories

    I found out about this game at a friend's house in 2001. I was 11, and intrigued by this game that I couldn't figure out what was going on. He was at Djose temple, and stuck there. I'd never played any FF games before this. I got a copy in 2001, and still have it to this day and a working PS2 as well. I still play it to listen to the music which besides the gameplay and story like you said it's the best FF game to play if you've never played FF before. I had a friend that would take this game from my house, and be pissed that I had to get it back. This is my favorite game of all time.

    Still my favorite of the series. The CTB battle system has been copied by too many other RPGs to count, showing just how much potential it holds. The only thing I don't like about 10 is how tedious it is to get some of the ultimate weapons. The Chocobo races were doable but the lightning dodging was just dumb. Let's lock a legendary weapon behind at best inconsistent lightning dodges and give the player no idea what their current count is and also reset it if they go back to check. Yes I'm a little bitter lol.

    FFX might actually be my favorite (played 6-10, 12, 15 , FFVIIR and just playing started 14). FFX grabbed me my first year in college after I already loved the series. I remember finishing the game and actually had wet eyes from the ending. Despite its flaws, it had a way of making me care about the characters more deeply than any of the other titles, with FFVII being a close second. And while the voice acting had its flaws, it added so much.
    Finally, the dynamic of Tidus and Yuna was relatable. One of the best love stories in a game This was something that FFXV failed at miserably. Even with the side projects providing context and content, I never believed why the main two characters were a thing. There was no relationship building.

    Seconding the hell out of FFX as an excellent starter Final Fantasy. It was my first after being introduced to the series via Kingdom Hearts, and it’s just a fantastic mix of classic FF as well as examples of where the series will go from there on. I love so much about it. And while it and its sequel both have been dethroned from the Favorite position (Crisis Core and FFXIV happened lmao), it still holds a dear place in my heart.
    Also, Yuna (and X-2’s Paine) started cracking my heteronormativity into pieces here so like. Yeah. Thanks, ma’am. XD

    Thank you for explaining why I dislike this game and how the rest of the FF franchise turned off.
    I only played like 20 minutes of FF10, and like a single battle of 10-2. Yet, I recall it being an interesting world with an action combat system.
    But I did ask my friend if it ever got to the "good part" where you could move around the world and explore.
    In that respect, FF1 threw you into the overworld first of all, and you had to enter the first town.
    FF2 started in media res, in a combat, and launched you into a town immediately after. You were on the field soon after.
    FF3 started in a cave.
    FF4 took longer to reach the overworld, starting at the airship, and having you navigate the Baron castle and watching the text crawl before you could step around.
    FF5 put you on an overworld corridor just after a small cinematic, but really felt open after finishing the first two locations.
    FF6 had you invade a town, explore some mines, then excape that same town and mines before you got to the main map.
    In retrospective, I find that there is a trend stretching back to the first games, where every new one required more time and effort to reach the overworld and feel really "open up".
    At the same time, every new game focused more and more on the story and took pains to present an appealing cast of characters.
    As both storytelling and freedom of movement are pillars of RPGs, I find it complicated to determine if this shift is good or bad.
    Maybe it's just a stylistic choice that can't be meassured and compared in a straightforward way.
    Anyway, I'll stop rambling.
    Thank you for the vid.

    • @DerfDeRox
      @DerfDeRox  Год назад +1

      Rambling is okay! Everyone will have their own experiences with a game, good and bad. And the overworld and exploration is a deal breaker for many, especially those who grew up with the franchise. Franchises change with time, and I think a lot of fans weren’t around for the change to ATB. IV-IX is a big window where people became attached to the new norm of ATB. I think V was the first with ATB with a charge bar? Personally, I liked the change away to conditional turn based in X. I had a good long run with ATB and the conditional turn system was a nice change of pace! But I won’t shame anyone for enjoying whatever system they like!

I tried several times over the years but outside my initial playthrough I just couldn't get into it. FF13 I couldn't even finish. That killed FF for me. The world, the characters, the gameplay were just not enjoyable at all for me. FFX on the other hand, I will still play through completely every few years. I just picked it up on switch last year to get all the extra content that wasn't on the original release (the dark aeons) and it was a blast getting insanely strong to take those guys out. Aside from collecting 10 tonberrys and few others, this game never feels stale or boring. The flaws are all easily forgivable. The music is fanastic. It's just a brilliant game through and through.
    It's not even in my top 3 FF favourites (that would be Tactics, FF6 and FF7) but the first 10 FF games were all just so damn good.

    I like ff7.
    The remaster ruined the magic of ff7 by turning Sephiroth into a voyeur.
    In the original ff7 he was like a myth, whom you didn't want to utter his name as he was op and dangerous. You rarely saw him. Only heard and would see evidence that he was and even more dangerous as people would say.
    In ff7R he spies on you naked wearing a pink wig.

    One thing that bugged me about the remaster was the Dark Aeons.. I wanna revisit parts of the world one last time before I beat the game.. not die to crazy super bosses out out of now where.. bad call.. at least make it so you have to go out of your way to initiate the fights.. like touch a glyph or something. Bad call. just a bad call. sure I can turn on the invincibility cheat but that's lame.. luckily my ps2 still works, as well my original copy. :)

    Having replayed some of the more recent titles as they got remastered and were on game pass, something sticks out to me in hindsight. Yes Ff10 was linear, even more linear than 13, which did open up when you get to pulse… yet still 10 doesn’t feel nearly as linear as 13 does, and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

    • @DerfDeRox
      @DerfDeRox  Год назад +1

      Same! I always thought 13 felt more linear as well, and I think it’s because the world feels less realized. There’s fewer NPCs or objects to interact with, and a lot of the backgrounds don’t have lore or reason. FFX is filled with passive visual story telling. Like the calm lands being filled with craters from the last Sin battle, the small villages having a reason for being so small, the statues of historic figures and their lore, etc. I felt like I was always absorbing something if I paid attention.

    If you don't count Final Fantasy Tactics, then FFX was the first Final Fantasy Game that I played from start to finish. I absolutely love this game. Also Yuna #BestFinalFantasyGirl
    The only thing I hated about it was that I played the NA version of the game back on the PS2. During the early days of the internet I learned about the Dark Aeons Superbosses and tried to find them by repeating the steps I saw in the video to try and trigger their encounter. You cannot imagine the total disappointment I felt when I learned that FFX and many other versions, and it was impossible to fight them with the verison I have
    And I like to point out, FFX to Final Fantasy is what RE4 was for Resident Evil xD

    1 gave us 2 3 and 4. 4 was great but 2 and 3 was okay. 4 gave us 5 and 6 which were pretty great. 7 gave us 8 9 and 10 and 9 and 10 were pretty great. 11 gave us 14 so that was great too. 10 gave us 12 13 and 15 and those 3 were mediocre at best. So 10 was the game that changed it for the worst.

    • @beanlegume9965
      @beanlegume9965 Год назад

      Not really. 10 and 13 don’t share a tonne of commonalities. The obvious hallways was maybe to only commonality, but they threw that out in 12, and brought it back by popular demand.
      10 had a lot of depth though, but 13 and its sequels didn’t.
      15 had some surprising depth, but was still fairly shallow compared to previous FFs. Its lore is very deep though.
      I think its fairly obvious that 10-2 and 13 were the bad ones.

    FFX was my favorite FF. It had its issues, but overall it had one of the most enthralling stories and world. It was also one of the last games in the franchise before everything started going off the rails. FFXII was ok, but the story to me was by far one of the weaker elements of it.

    FF X didn't change the franchise, the merger with Enix did. The Enix CEO made Square focus on asset flipping with quickly developed sequel titles that allowed Square to make more games and make them faster thus vastly increasing their profits. It was Enix that was responsible for the game FF X-2 existing. This is what changed Square and started a new era for Square.
