    I did latch hooking years ago and really enjoyed it. I plan to quit smoking for the new year and will be 'hooking' again to keep my hands busy. Really looking forward to it - both the hooking and being smoke free, lol! This was a good refresher. Love your accent! I'm a hopeless Anglophile. Hello from St. Petersburg, Florida.

    also any other ideas for a backing rather than the paint on stuff thanks again

      Hi Janet. Yes, just two layers of the canvas on the corners, leaving a little flap. You can put a fabric backing on your rug if preferred. There are also other coatings available. Regards Clare

    On the front of the rugs, do you recommend spraying a water resistant spray to prevent it from getting so dirty?

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  5 лет назад +3

      Hi Jessica. I like to spray my cushions and rugs with 'Scotch Guard' which is a similar protective spray and many people use it for protecting new special shoes and handbags etc. Works well. Regards Clare

    Hi Clare another awesome video tutorial. On my next rug I need to try this. How do you wash the completed rugs when the get dirty?

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  5 лет назад +7

      Hi Melissa. Thank you so much for your lovely comments. As for washing your rugs I have the following advice. Your edges and knots overall need to be tight and secure or they will come undone. Speaking for other companies kits, I cannot be sure as to the quality of materials but I have found most kits can be hand washed in warm soapy water and rinsed and then placed flat on a towel to dry, do not hang at corners. Or if your washing machine has a delicate gentle cycle and you trust it then you can use it under caution. Hope this helps. Regards Clare x

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  Год назад

      Hi Yvonne. You don't need to restart. Just fold the edges under and do the technique from where ever you are at the moment. Then at least some of your project has this edge and also you get to try it out. If you are bent on restarting, you only need to do the edges but make sure you have plenty of yarn for those that are spoilt when you pull them out. Good luck. Clare x

  • @pamwelty

    Clare, If you use this approach at the beginning do you also use binding at the end or is this in place of end binding?

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  5 лет назад

      Hi Pamela. Thanks for your question. If you do the folded double canvas technique you don't have to stitch rug binding on if you don't want to. If it is going to be a wall hanging, it really isn't necessary. I like to stitch the binding on as well afterwards but only because all my rugs are designed to be used and as the edges of a rug are the most vulnerable, it gives added protection for wear and tear. After all when you have done all that work you really want to take care of your project. Hope this helps. Regards Clare

    • @pamwelty
      @pamwelty 5 лет назад +1

      @@UtterlyHookedDesigns Clare, thanks for the quick response. I'm wrapping a wall hanging, and starting a rug. I'll use stitched binding on the wall hanging, then start off the rug with the folded and then do the stitched binding and anti-slip paste. I can't find the anti-slip spray here in the U.S. so i'm planning on using the paint brush applied anti-slip from Herrschners. So pleased to have found your videos.

    Could you glue the binding on or do you have to sew it? If sewing, is it the same as in your older video? Will probably be ordering a kit after I finish projects in the queue

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  4 года назад +2

      Hi Michelle. You can get self adhesive rug binding but I have never used it myself. I have read comments about it curling up at the edges and dust collecting on it but if your project is to be a wall hanging then I don't expect this would be a problem. I have no idea if you could glue the rug binding I use onto the back of your project but if done well, I don't see why not. I am just a stitcher by nature and so that is what I like to do. Take care. Clare x

      Hi Mary. Thanks for your message. You don't really need to worry about your corners as when using this method is just forms a sort of triangular pocket with the canvas and is fine left as it is. You can then choose to bind your edges with rug binding to cover this or not, it is up to you. Clare x
