    Thank you for this fantastic video. I found latch hook during lockdown and instantly fell in love with the craft. I’ve done a couple already but have been stuck on what to do once they are made. god bless you. I can officially finish some of the 1.5bazillion latch hook rugs from kits/leftover yarn tails from my crochet projects. Also great to know because I started locker hooking with scrap yarn and it's so fantastic. I'll never run out of rugs and cushions. I'm also super cheap and make quick "pillow forms" with bed sheets and I buy the cheap pillows and stuff the heck out of them. It's amazing how much cheaper it is to buy a pillow instead of stuffing. I'm looking forward to a video though on how to finish a rug. I'm dying to find out :)

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  7 лет назад +2

      Hi there. All you need to do is cut out a piece of fabric that is 2cm approx bigger around each edge than your latch hook panel. Then put the right sides together and hand stitch using a back stitch around 3 sides only. Make sure you use a strong thread. Keeping as close to the last row of latch hooking as you can. Then turn it the right way round, insert your cushion pad and then careful stitch up the third edge with tiny stitches folding in the edges as you go. Hope this helps. Clare x

      Hi Katie. This is quite a difficult question! I have a Husqvarna but I have had it about 20 years! Every stitcher I know likes a different machine. I would get a fairly simple one, not too expensive, around the £200 mark, just to get you started and then if you are keen you can move up. To cope with stitching rug canvas it does need to be fairly robust. Hope this helps. Clare x

  • @meganhahn6559
    @meganhahn6559 8 лет назад

    Hi Clare, thanks for the instructions! I've never been able to find good instructions for finishing latch hook projects. :-)
    When you are stitching together the fabric and canvas along the bottom edge of the pillow, do you still tuck in the hanging stitches? If you tuck these in, would you actually be pushing the latch hook stitches up, in the opposite direction from how they hang normally?? I wouldn't think you would want to catch those hanging yarn pieces as you're sewing the bottom edge. Appreciate the help!!

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  8 лет назад

      Hi Megan. Thank you for your message. Yes, you must push the knots up out of the way or it will spoil the look of your finished project. When you turn your cushion the right way the knots still all lie in the right direction and you shouldn't be able to see any canvas. Hope this helps. Clare x

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  Год назад +1

      Hi there. If possible use a sewing machine to put a line of stitching along the canvas to stop the canvas from fraying anymore. Or you could hand sew. You could unpick and add a strip of canvas that over laps and then re hook the strands.Without seeing the damage it is hard to say exactly. Regards Clare

    Questsion- you mentioned you can wash the pillow/latch hooked covering.....do you ever have an issue of the yarn coming undone?

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  5 лет назад

      Hi Mimzy. Thanks for your message. I am only speaking about my own latch hook kits, I wouldn't like to say about other companies, especially if it is wool rather than acrylic. If the knots have been done tight enough, this is possible. I would gently handwash though and dry flat on a towel. If you watch my other tutorial on How to apply Super Grip non slip spray to your latch hook projects you will see that this product keeps the knots fixed in place on the back of your work and if done properly they shouldn't come out. I wash my rugs and cushions in my washing machine on a delicate wash but then I trust my machine. I wouldn't recommend you doing this often though as it will affect the canvas itself. Hope this helps. Regards Clare

      Mona Slattery I would recommend mine! Great designs and high quality materials. Avoid the really cheap ones as people seem to be disappointed with the finished results. It does however depend on what you are going to use the end latch hook for. What every you choose, enjoy and happy hooking! Clare x

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  7 лет назад

      Hi Shauna. Thanks for your message. You do not need to wash your project after you have finished. The yarn should cover all the canvas so that it is soft. I am not sure if you can wash your project anyway as I don't know whose canvas and yarn you have used. Both my yarn and canvas can be washed on a gentle cycle and they come up lovely. I even wash my rugs occasionally. I would recommend you hand wash gently and dry flat on a towel. Clare x

    What happens if you cut the panel to close because I've cut it one square after the last not

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  8 лет назад

      Hi Maria. The first thing you need to do is use the zigzag foot on your sewing machine and stitch all around your panel over the canvas threads that you can still see. Hopefully this will stop your canvas from fraying and keep the integrity. Then I would suggest stitching 1" bias tape in individual strips down each side to the last little bit of canvas showing. You can also use non fray fabric. This will be tricky but perfectly possible. Then you should be able to carry on following the instructions on my video. Hope this helps. Clare x
