I live in PA and the good thing is it is a liquor controlled state, meaning they cannot mark up the pricing and it must be at MSRP. The bad part is you can’t sniff a bottle of ER or BT anywhere in the state.
Totally agree. Just happened to be at the right store in VA at the right time a couple of weeks ago, and was able to buy a 1.75 L bottle. I prefer it over 20-25 bourbons I've had that are more expensive.
This was my "golden idol" when I first started bourbon hunting, as it was a very good BT product at a reasonable price. Here in So Cal there has been a major uptick in ER shipments, and I've been able to find it at my local Vons for forty bucks. I totally agree that this bottle is one of the best/greatest values, and have to add Russel's Reserve 10 year to that list as well.
I agree, I have also found some inconsistency from bottle to bottle. I just finished off a bottle that had kind of a stale grape soda note in the back of the palate, the one that I have that's about 2/3 gone has more of a stal3 cherry soda note. The one I have opened most recently has a more classic Buffalo Trace flavor profile that is probably the best ER I have ever had. I can find them on base pretty regularly for 37 out the door. Off base out in the civilian market they are much harder to find and much more expensive.
I'm fortunate to find them in Orange County Ca at least once a month around $32 and at the highest $39. If anyone that lives in the OC area, if you see it at one grocery store, most likely the other grocery stores will have them. I've had the best luck at Wholefoods for $32, and Albertson for $39. Sometimes BevMo for $34.
I landed at a liquor store to buy my first ever bourbon. And there it was sitting eagle rare. I didn’t twice and picked it up. Enjoying it while watching this video. Cheers.
It’s cool that your palate picks up on something special in ER. I love it too, but I like almost the entire BT line. Here in Illinois we’re only able to get it every few months, so I enjoy it sparingly.
I just opened my first Eagle Rare. I found it in a small very old liquor store on a high shelf behind the counter. I quickly calculated how much gas I would waste trying to chase down another bottle versus how much I wanted them to choke on their $95 price tag before pulling out my wallet. It is very good although the nose promised a bit more than it delivered on the palate. I'm happy I bought it but it's like dating a hot chick, I'll only overpay for it once.
$100 is absolutely insane. My grocery store across the street has both the normal and huge bottles at reasonable prices. The regular size 750 is $38 for me and I wouldn’t pay more.
It used to be my everyday pour when I was finding it more often I’m holding on to my last bottle until I get a backup. I think too many people trash it I think it’s a great pour 🥃
I love Eagle Rare but it is extremely hard to find here in Central Texas. I've got one bottle and I don't want to drink it too fast for fear that I can't replace it.
I saw 3 bottles available in my area (also Central Texas) on Drizly yesterday evening. It was listed for $98.99. I said "no way" and passed. Curious if they sold, I looked this morning and they were already gone. We have to keep nursing ER bottles that we have - the ridiculous prices are ridiculous because there are people that will continue to pay them.
I'm more than happy with Russell's Reserve 10 year old. $35 and available all the time and in most places. It's a better value than Eagle Rare at this point, in my opinion. I enjoy the musty funk of WT products. I think it's a better balance of traditional bourbon flavors as well. I'll also put Rare Breed up there too in the top value category as long as I can still get for sub-$50. I'll also push back on your knock against the Knob. I'm a bit biased against low proofers and so I seem to get more out of the 100 proof KC (and even more from the 120 proof single barrel) than the 90 proof Eagle Rear. I can also get a KC 1.75 for $52 at Costco. I like ER and I'll pick up a bottle if I see it at retail (last bottle I got was $35, probably 6 or more months ago) but I won't hunt for it. At $50-60, there are a lot of good whiskeys that would hit my cart first before the Eagle.
Just scored a bottle of er for $32. They had it behind the counter. Only have a couple left and only sell one per customer. Probably going to have my wife get another tomorrow. Soo good.
Agree all the way around. Unfortunately, it’s getting more expensive and slightly lesser value, meaning other bourbons are now a similar value. Funny thing is I’m not a BT fan, but I love ER.
Did my own experiment last night. Regular BT is good but watered down. ER has an excellent dense flavor but I found it lacks a finish. Just 'discovered' your channel. Awesome review. I'm also in Virginia (Carrollton, VA). I picked up Eagle Rare 10-yr last week and it was $42. Damn good value.
I have always thought Eagle Rare is best sub $35 bottle. Russell's reserve 10 year and tin cup 10 year are also good $35 options and easier to find in my area.
I used to buy two to three bottles every once in awhile at $40 a bottle when I lived in Michigan. That was 4 years ago; now I live in North Carolina and I can’t find a bottle anywhere. 😢 I miss it so much..
savannah GA. I got one last night for $42, but the catch was, you had to buy a 1792 for $27 also to get it. (alone it was $65!). Since I was planning on buying a 1792 at some point for my shelf, it was a no-brainer. I notice a comment below about 1.75 - does Eagle even come in that size? I have never heard of that. Good review as always, thanks
So many of the bourbons that you feature are unobtainable in the UK and yet I can go to the local supermarket or on_line store and have Eagle Rare delivered the next day for under $40!
Slowly making more appearances in upstate Central New York. First was the 375ml which was priced near full bottle coming in sporadically. Just last week, my favorite store scored a case of the 750ml bottles, and I was able to buy one at $34 providing that I also bought a store pick private barrel F A Waldron Straight Bourbon along with it (it was $42 and distilled by Lock 1 Distilling out of Phoenix NY and was worth the price). Another store has a 1.75L for sale at $169. Won't go that far. Total agreement on your views of the product though.
I was lucky to get a couple of bottles of ER that was a local store pick here in New Mexico. It was my first time trying it and it definitely is delicious!
Very smooth. Kinda neutral and I like it. Doesn’t have any harsh taste like in some bourbon. Very unique. Here in Canada it got sold same day it gets to the stores. I was lucky to het one.
I like Eagle Rare, easy to find in NYC from 50 to 70, I would love it if it was 35, it's nice to drink every once and a while but when I can get OF 1920 for 58 , OF 1910 for 54, WT Rare Breed for 54 or Russell's 10 yr for 39 , I'll pass on ER. Great videos TY
I know this video is a year old and I don't know if the supply chain has improved or or what but, we live in a small town in NW Georgia and we went to 3 different stores today and it was easily available in all three stores. I noted that you said you found it easily in Georgia so maybe we get a bigger allocation, however, we are well outside the Atlanta metro area and given your observation I kind of surprised it is so easy to come by here. I had my first taste of it at a restaurant about just over a week ago and had to pick up a bottle today.
This is allocated in Bama and it goes fast. Really ready to try this. I absolutely love Buffalo Trace, and it's allocated too. This is supposedly the 'step up' from BT, so i'm ready for it. Not really impressed with Blanton's for the price.
Here in Florida it is very hard to find. I do have a hole in the wall liquor store that seems to have it in stock. Unfortunately they are asking $55 for it. Yes, ER is a tasty bourbon. It is nowhere near worth $55 in my opinion. I can get Wild Turkey Rare Breed for $47 here, and it’s easy to find. So unless I can get lucky and have another liquor store to stock it and price it around $35……I won’t be drinking Eagle Rare anytime soon. I do agree with your review all the same though.
Eagle Rare was THE fancy whiskey to have in college and back then for $35 it was top shelf to us. I haven’t had a bottle in years because it is impossible to find near me. For some reason EH Taylor and even Blantons are easier to find! I choked and dropped $100 for an Eagle on my birthday and while it is great, I can’t justify it when EH Taylor or Elijah Craig Barrel or Russel Reserve are around the same price.
Great Title for lots of controversy. I myself really enjoy Eagle Rare and it was one of the first bourbons I had neat and enjoyed It kickstarted my journey into the whiskey/bourbon rabbit hole. thanks for sharing. I agree worth the price if you can find. cheers.
I'm lucky to have found plenty of ER where I'm at. For the most part, the flavor has been great and consistent. Although I had 1 bottle that reminded me of cherry cough syrup. It was off-putting but since then the flavors have been wonderful and savory. Don't hesitate to buy this bourbon. It's special.
I have literally never seen Eagle Rare on the shelf here in Oklahoma. I don't know what the closest state is that has it on the shelf but it might be worth a road trip.
Like your reviews. Would be nice sometime if you showed we new comers how to find some of the allocated or hard to find bourbon. Montana is not an easy place to find them
Brother, I love your channel and agree with you about a lot of bourbons-especially your opinion of OF 1910. But Eagle Rare, while good, is just not a bourbon for which I understand the reason for the hunt. I have two bottles and to me it’s thin, pleasant, and a nice bourbon for easy drinking, but it’s overall just…unremarkable. For 0% of the hunt I can get a bottle of Jameson Black and experience a similar taste and sacrifice almost nothing on the quality or mouthfeel-and I think the JB is a better easy drinker. I have two bottles of ER (definitely hard to find here in CA-I got really lucky one Saturday…right time, right place…to get my two), and it may be a long time before the second one is opened because it’s taking me so long to finish the first. Anyway, just my 2¢. Cheers!
Can only get ER on allocation days (once a month) in Alabama but can usually get it if not too far back in line. Store picks are really good but if I had to pick an alternative that is close to ER, even though a little higher proof, Early Times BIB tastes similar at least it does to me. ER is definitely one of my fav's though.
Tried it for first time this Saturday while watching football and it is very good. It is very sweet and flavorful and a great finish lasts a long time. I tried it neat first and then over ice and both were very good. I did however find that even though I liked it a lot I felt 2 was good and switched to something else. Not sure if it will be like that every time.
Found 1 bottle of it in last 6 mnths but turned it down at a $70 price tag... got 2 local store picks tho clyde mays 5yr sib and makers 46 cask strength, got both for $130
ER is a good value bourbon. The single barrel store picks are an even greater value if you are lucky enough to have stores in your area that do that. Unfortunately for me in the Minnesota/Wisconsin/Iowa tri-state area, it's mostly a bourbon desert.
ER is pretty easy to get in Michigan at state minimum and a decent value. If someone tries to gouge for $40- $60 bucks I’m easily grabbing a JD SB BP or WT RB.
I totally agree with your take on Russel's 10 vs ER. Russel's is a good bourbon but the sweet notes don't develop compared to ER. I've had a bottle of Russel's & I wouldn't buy one again because it falls flat compared to others in its price point (ER, 1792 BiB, Maker's 101 etc.).
I walked past 4 bottles on the shelf at Costco yesterday and had to do a double take. Is that…? Why yes it is. $25.49 limit 1. Needless to say, I walked out with one.
I can buy Eagle Rare here in Northern Ireland for £30 when it's on offer which is every couple of months, great bourbon at this price, I also can get Buffalo Trace at £18, for some reason these bourbons are never in short supply here, was recently in NYC and paid almost $40 for a Russells 10 and Eagle Rare in my opinion beats it hands down!
80 dollars in my area in Tennessee when you can find it. I live close to Knoxville and bourbon is more expensive than places I've visited throughout Georgia and North Florida. Never understood why.
very hard to find in kansas, my cousin is a big bourbon collector and found me a pint, I personally was not a big fan of it I like the wild turkey long branch a lot better. I am searching for a bigger bottle just to have for guest because so many people like it.
ER would be my daily drinker if it was widely available for retail
It’s nearly impossible to find in Kentucky and it’s distilled 15 minutes from my workplace.
Went to a random liquor store today they had one bottle for $100. Told them to kick rocks.
I live in PA and the good thing is it is a liquor controlled state, meaning they cannot mark up the pricing and it must be at MSRP. The bad part is you can’t sniff a bottle of ER or BT anywhere in the state.
Ive seen some recently north of $200... On my way currently to pick one up i scored for $35 via lottery
Vons and Pavillions had this in my area for $45
I live near Syracuse, NY and I usually get it for $48 after tax. The store I frequent though doesn’t upcharge like many do.
Local Walmart had them for 34 dollars and no limit so I got 2. Total whine has them for 40 but only 1 per customer
Totally agree. Just happened to be at the right store in VA at the right time a couple of weeks ago, and was able to buy a 1.75 L bottle. I prefer it over 20-25 bourbons I've had that are more expensive.

ER has an excellent dense flavor but I found it lacks a finish.

The trick is blending ER 10 with EH Taylor small batch. I tried both 2:1 ratios and vise versa.

I gave in and bought my first bottle.. cheapest I could find in So Cal was $60 highest I saw was $150
If you like unique try a Wood Hat out of Missouri. In my opinion it is amazing, definitely has its own flavor.
Like your reviews. Would be nice sometime if you showed we new comers how to find some of the allocated or hard to find bourbon. Montana is not an easy place to find them
Found one today for under $50 in NY
The closest I've come to finding a close whiskey in terms of similarity is regular Smoke Wagon
Agree love Eagle Rare
Tried it for first time this Saturday while watching football and it is very good. It is very sweet and flavorful and a great finish lasts a long time. I tried it neat first and then over ice and both were very good. I did however find that even though I liked it a lot I felt 2 was good and switched to something else. Not sure if it will be like that every time.
Love Eagle Rare usually my Friday night pour, EHT small batch is Saturday night pour
Found 1 bottle of it in last 6 mnths but turned it down at a $70 price tag... got 2 local store picks tho clyde mays 5yr sib and makers 46 cask strength, got both for $130
Grabbed my last bottle of ER at Safeway for $38 before a $6 discount for being a member. Two for two this year :)
I’m also in Michigan
Macomb county
Can you tell me if your store is in my neighborhood? Not looking to blow up your secret, just curious.
Eagle Rare fanboy
You should do a blind tasting with Jamie. BTW, 3 cases showed up at my Costco for $30 a bottle, and they stayed on the shelf for a week!
Must be nice. Can't find it locally. The one place that did have it was $80+.
@@Just1Guy1000 Now at the Safeway grocery stores for$34!
@@DileepB Not cool. 😀
@@DileepB what state is this happening in?
@@FakingANerve Washington state. None left now.
I haven't seen a bottle in years, been missing from my shelf for a while.
I walked past 4 bottles on the shelf at Costco yesterday and had to do a double take. Is that…? Why yes it is. $25.49 limit 1. Needless to say, I walked out with one.
Stumbled across a bottle today 1st time trying it pretty good. I paid 45 Northern California
Eagle Rare for daily drive, EH Taylor small batch for the weekend.
Love the stuff, always get a lovely cherry note. I can regulrly pick up of a bottle of this im my local supermaket Tesco here in rhe UK for £31.
Love me some ER… by far one of my favorites! But just so hard to find, I just don’t understand it. Why don’t they just make more?
🥃
What state are you in?
As a former ER fanboy, I think ECBP is the best value in bourbon.
Agreed...and also Rare Breed
Except ECBP is impossible to find by me, especially at retail. I think a good value should be a combination of readily available and at a good price.
Thx and greetings from bad old Germany.
Beste Grüße aus Deutschland.
Love the ER… just gotta keep your eyes open and pick one up for $40
Have a store pick that I'm looking forward to cracking open
ER is very good!
Exactly
80 dollars in my area in Tennessee when you can find it. I live close to Knoxville and bourbon is more expensive than places I've visited throughout Georgia and North Florida. Never understood why.
I get a root beer flavor. With the sweetness it reminds me of those root beer barrel hard candies. Very tasty.
very hard to find in kansas, my cousin is a big bourbon collector and found me a pint, I personally was not a big fan of it I like the wild turkey long branch a lot better. I am searching for a bigger bottle just to have for guest because so many people like it.
