the metaphor here is that the plane is the "canoe in the sky" ... Different brace positions ... changed over time, and as we learned more, plus different planes, seats, countries. You MUST listen each time as brace positions do vary!
One of the best air safety videos I have seen is the Air New Zealand one on the theme of Men In Black featuring characters from the films as well as the All Black rugby team.
The MIB (I think it was linked to MIB3 or MIB international?) - but the Hobbit/LOTR based ones were good..... But if you want a good one that was fairly basic - the 2019? "Summer Holidays" style.
Retired Airline Pilot here, the 'brace' position and other instructions from your cabin crew are determined by the cabin configuration and components. Different styles or manufacture of seats will require a variation in these positions and instructions. That's why every pilot will emphasize why It's so important to PAY ATTENTION, we are trying to instruct you on how to remain ALIVE.😀Hope that helps shed a little light on things.
@@RobReacts1 Good question. It's not just surviving, but being inured as well. Brace position gives you the optimum high 'G' decelaration capability. It's all to do with the 'G' forces in different directions on the human body. As for surviving in any position, it so depends on how you crash. (sorry, emergency land 😂)
I agree with you completelyRob, I have been to New Zealand afew times and covered both the North and south islands. The contrast between the two islands is fantastic. I tend to lean toward the South island, but both of them have some incredible scenery and they both remind me of segments of L>O>R.Fascination level for me was really high. Recomend it as a great holiday experience. (and I am an Aussie, Thw people are really great and the people of the west coast of the South Island are the reason I lean slghtly more the whole of the country.)
For the safety message, I'd put Qantas first, British Airways next, then Air New Zealand. Visually, I'd put Q and ANZ in a tie for first. For general appeal, BA is the clear winner because comedy is universal. Q had an element of comedy to it because of the somewhat exaggerated styles from the various times. I spent 2 weeks driving around NZ's South Island, and, Rob, you should go there some day. You will not be disappointed. Absolutely fantastic.
Loved it. I've always had a great respect for New Zealand as a country. As for safety, most people who fly know these airplane safety messages backwards and honestly, don't even bother to watch them anymore. They're more likely to watch THIS one...
The SOUTH island of NZ is the beautiful one. North island is where my family come from and it's a bit. um. flat. If you ever get to go to New Zealand, Christchurch, Queenstown & Milford Sound are the places to see. You can make a blockbuster movie with an iphone there.
Agree that the stunning beauty of New Zealand is the star of this video. All/Most of the safety points where there but they seemed secondary. I think both the BA and QANTAS wove the safety message into the story better. Also the brace position they demonstrated seemed like you’d get whiplash without the support of your arms around your head against the seat in front.
Heard of SlowTV? There is a SlowTV of the train journey from The Milford Sounds on RUclips. The title is : Going South From Auckland to The Milford Sounds It's 3 hours but very interesting.
I am so glad you asked what the science is behind the brace position Rob. I know exactly why they tell you to be in a brace position and why they vary. Mythbusters did some experiments years ago to test exactly that. Pretty sure they figured out the reason to get in a brace position is so that if you die, they can identify you using dental records, as your teeth will still be in tact. And the positions needed for that can vary. Pretty sickening tbh and I will never brace for impact. I will try and live, not be able to be identified after I die (If I can help it, of course).
The brace positions are to stop you hitting your head and stop arms and legs flailing around during a crash. There are different ways to this, and some positions use the arms to protect the head or legs. The idea being if your arm is hurt you can still walk but if you're knocked out or break a leg, you will need to be rescued.
That is what they tell you. The truth is that they want to be able to identify you if you die using dental records. The brace positions help your teeth stay in tact. They lie to us.
Even within each island there are tremendous variety. I live in Canterbury, with its large coastal plain, green and full of dairy farms. Once you climb the eastern side of the Alps it drops down to an almost desert like central zone. Around Arthur's pass it changes to native beach forest, before dropping down into subtropical rainforest on the west side. All in less than 100 miles as the crow flies.
They have done this ad this way to give the passenger focus on this video with the visuals. It lacks the safety aspects as when you watch this your mind is taking in the scenery and story line but the safety side you tend to not take in. They are trying to hard to make this some sort of arty farty type video and safety aspect isn't being portrayed as the focus point.
As 99% of passengers know the safety routine already, why not beautify that routine with stunning imagery? And Rob, check out the NZ Police recruiting video on YT. If you've covered it, I missed that. Cheers.
🔹️Agreed ✔❗ Was OK & Passable particular with the stunningly beautiful scenery, but the message is mixed & not entirely clear. My final verdict: • Qantas 9/10, • British Airways 8½/10 & • Air New Zealand 7½/10 👀👍❕
I think the scenery, and the CGI, drowned out the message in this particular effort. It was an enjoyable video, but possibly not a good safety video. The thought occurred to me while l was watching this, was that both this ad, and the QANTAS ad would appeal to travellers from all countries. However; the BA effort might go over the heads of, or even annoy, non British travellers, who probably wouldn't recognise the actors, or understand the humour.

Hey Barry, whats the chances of surviving in any position if you crash? (sorry emergancy landing) :D

I Found Air New Zealand's add disconnected from safety aspect. But was definitely picturesque

In Māori the word wake is the same for boat and plane As it’s the word for “way to travel”
I'm sure that spell check has changed waka to wake here.

I strongly recommend looking up Air New Zealand's Men In Black video
@@glenchapman3899 Haha! I did! It was excellent! :-)
It is bound to get strange when a corporation has to find a way of connecting safety videos to Te Tiriti O Waitangi obligations.

Everytime I see NZ, I see incredible scenery!
The Turkish airlines safety video’s are amazing, especially the LEGO and Zac King ones! You should definitely check them out!
Will do!
Qantas had the best message
Maybe my expectations were too high. This one didn’t really grab me. Still think Qantas is no.1
The new Zealand safety ad from 7 years ago based on The lord of the rings is the greatest safety ad in all time give it a watch!
Watched it ages ago :) ruclips.net/video/zO6dDKYSOYY/видео.html
I think the Air New Zealand middle earth safety video is the best.
really don't know what to say about this advertisement except I did like the cenerey

Hi Rob When you get here from the east coast of Oz to NZ is about the same as going to Perth but maybe a bit cheaper, Cheers

This whole add was about incorporating air plane saftey and visitors look after nz while you are here
Places refers to the sacred spaces that you can access via plane.

Lets be honest though... if the plane is going to crash, how many people will actually survive no matter what position you are in!

I did a 2 week tour of NZ, both islands. The scenery is awesome but the interesting thing was how different the 2 islands were from one another.

I am a Kiwi and this Air NZ video was putting me to sleep watching it !
Because you don’t like Māori that’s why
@@siiamdaniel5689 HUH????????????????????????????
NZ is definitely a beautiful country ✌✌
I like the Qantas ad better. Found the NZ ad a bit confusing and disjointed.
Hey check out Oprah in Australia , the still call Australia home vide
I like the Hobbit vid much more. Yes, New Zealand is beautiful.
G'day
B.A. used humour.
QANTAS used patriotism.
AirZN used their beautiful lane and culture heritage.

I am scared of flying and wouldn't like a bird flying into an engine. Worse than BA.
I personally go for the Qantas one 🤔👍
have you checked the Air Nz lord of the rings safety videos from a few years back?
I have done that one :)
And air Nz are on track to become carbon neutral
In fact they are one of the key investors in airbus’s zero emission planes
Tourist promotion above safety message
I actually think its just a tourist promotion ad!
STRAYA just as beautiful ......as for the enviro side think its saying we are beautiful look after it while you here
Yeah right!!!
As 99% of passengers know the safety routine already, why not beautify that routine with stunning imagery? And Rob, check out the NZ Police recruiting video on YT. If you've covered it, I missed that. Cheers.
It’s the 1% they are trying to reach. The safety message must be paramount everything else is just fluff.

Jesus, that was awful. If there was a competition for the most cringe safety video, then Air NZ would win hands down!!
Qantas first sorry Britain airways is crap
Beautiful scenery but don’t like this add
