I was upgraded once for an international flight back in the '90's. The seats were larger but what was noticeably different was the food: the portions were twice the size and the meals were multi-course. Every half hour or so a stewardess approached me with an assortment of Swiss chocolate - and not small, complimentary sizes but family blocks. I walked off the plane with two dozen bars..

Just be a Karen by mom didn't like that the hotel was dirty so they upgraded her to the nice room and it was really dirty expired food and wanted the cabinets and a soda on the AC/heat

When I was 17 many moons ago, I guess I was considered a minor. I got upgraded to business class on a flight from Korea to Hawaii on MAS. I thought they wouldn’t treat me like a business class flyer because I was only upgraded but I was wrong. I got all the perks by way of food and free stuff. Time of my life.

The only tip I learned, is if you're hot and have a television crew following you, you get an upgrade. So what about the rest of us (the other 99.9999%)?
About that Hilton "upgrade." A couple years ago I stayed at a Hilton in San Francisco. They offered me a "free" upgrade when I checked in. I couldn't say no to that. On the morning I left, they slipped a note/bill under the door showing my charges. They charged me an extra $125 a night for the room because I "upgraded." I called the front desk saying I didn't authorize any extra charge. They called me back a short time later saying I signed for the upgrade. I insisted I did not, saying again the front desk said it was a free upgrade, and show me something saying I signed for the extra charge (I'm careful in what I sign). They finally gave in and reversed the charges.

I am a Hilton Honors Gold Member and I don’t remember being upgraded to a Suite. They will usually offer this Suite upgrade to a Platinum member. The best I have got so far would be upgrades to executive rooms with executive benefits.
I'm a Platinum member because half of the time whenever my wife or family goes on vacation, I let them use my card for vacations and normally they don't offer any suites but you do get huge discounts on execuitive rooms

On my trip from Chicago, IL to Fort Lauderdale, FL everyone flew in style. There was TVs, outlets, WiFi, lots of leg room and free drinks and snacks.

I got an upgrade to delta first class, and it was AWESOME I had a blanket and pillow they provided on me the whole 3 hour flight I love delta (well and JetBlue).
When she showed off her “complementary seat” I just laughed cause on all delta and capital one flights they give you an outlet to charge your phone, free drinks as long as you show I’d, and a tv screen in all the seats. That is in a standard seat so I kind of doubt that she got a huge upgrade.
