It’s been pretty cool of keen to spread the teasers between different se youtubers. Also THATS A BIG ASS DRILL! As someone who loves a good drill rig, thank you keen.
Having favored asteroid tunnellers for late-game mining (not that I really end up using them much, given the issues this update seeks to solve with the late game) it's really cool to see a drill like this built for that purpose. A prototech overhaul of many craft is certainly in order for a lot of us - but, interestingly, this wouldn't solve every engineering problem. Scraper drillers come to mind, given your example, particularly those used to mine gargantuan amounts of ice for fuel processing, as something which would likely be more practical and perhaps more effective with normal drills as opposed to prototech ones. Curious what its alternate mining mode is like, the one which clears a larger area but destroys materials. That large mining ship at the end is gorgeous.
I shared the alternate mining mode in the 2nd part of the video - I honestly don't know the accepted term of what engineers call it, I just call it mining and digging as the 2 modes.
I'm glad that they're introducing more powerful tools while still giving them tradeoffs. It'll take time to see if this is a power creep update or not, but at least for the drill and thruster, it doesn't seem that way, which is good. There's still a use for the regular drill but it basically simplifies the process of mining large swaths of land, which makes sense given it being end game.
Same, I was of course excited to get a piece myself - but it was really nice to go and check out the other creators as well and see what they received and how they approached it. 😊
First time watching your channel, but you already earned my sub! Just great block analysis and I would love to see you do this on all the other prototech block once the update is out!
The drill did not collect 972K litres. It collected less than 364K litres, which converts to 972K kg. The display at [ 3:21 ] shows 364,092.07 / 421,875.01 L and that includes the stone
You are totally right - and I am really not sure why I said Liters - as I did not even use Liters in the script I made for the video... I guess my ADHD brain just looked at both units and combined them. 😂
wow that is awesome looking drill i wonder how hard it will be to actually get the parts needed for these prototech items i going to watch the stream god knows what time it will be on here in Australia lol looking forward to the new contact thanks for the review BB
We needed a bigger vanilla drill a ton, this is fricking AWESOME! Can't wait to attach this with a large rotor head to my small grid ship for mining in space hahahahahaha.
This is really exciting ! One note though: I'm afraid that this being an endgame block might pose a problem. See, by the time I've built a base and/or ships able to sustain production of end game blocks, I generally am all set up in terms of ore input etc. I'm just hoping that the increased need for magnesium might partially solve this issue. Well done one the video :)
Well, I am calling it End-Game Blocks because that is what Keen Described them as, but SE never really seems like there is a real End Game. You will need a lot of magnesium for example to build the prototech components (Zero Legion covered that in his video).
no one: it's already endgame but you are just about to get the prototech drill. are you still going to mine? space engineers players: the real game just started.
Drill radius is the biggest factor in my opinion. Drill ships are notorius for constant repairs and replacement as the holes they dig are barely larger than themselves. This drill changes that completely.
Awesome that you got to showcase this drill update. Congrats Man! Could you put like four batteries on it and drop it and time how long it takes to reach the centre of earth-like?
Amazing sketch there you did for the intro! I wouldn't call the power consumption a big advantage, even 10 kW for the rotor-drillhead is so little in this game. I am curious if those encounters become a thing on the official servers as well, because their size would make a huge difference with the limited drill count
While "13 meters is bigger than 9 meters" (in terms of drilled area) is true, math makes it even more impressive. 9 Meter hole = 63.62 square meters of drill area. 13 Meter hole = 132.73 square meters of drill area. So not only is it far more efficient, it drills out over TWICE the amount of stuff in terms of surface area!
The tiered tech modder is either going "FINALLY" or "are you F'ing kidding me??" Personally, I've never been a fan of the "carving" functionality or of drills magically digging out rocks several meters away from the actual drill bit. It's handy, sure, but I wish they'd just make drills with heads wider than the block itself. Like how the hell is that protodrill making a hole that wide, you know?
Yeah, but you can put this reasoning to the test for a lot of things in this game and much won't make sense... (f.e.: how is one large grid drill able to hold +23Kl of inventory in a small space like that?) 😅
@@Beeblebum Fair...but that's also a completely intangible mechanic that causes almost zero effect in the game since your drills immediately empty into whatever cargo container you've got anyway. I'd be willing to bet the only reason drills even HAVE inventory at all is due to a programming limitation requiring it for stable interactions. I can see that one making it in purely for performance reasons. Given I know nothing about the code I could be entirely wrong but that's my best layman's theory.
I would really advice to test combined drills in creative before you apply them in survival - Certain setups I made did explode violently after a while. And its gonna be a expensive one in survival.

The drill is only one of the prototech blocks, you will need a lot of resources to build the other ones - for example Magnesium for the prototech panels. And, honestly End-Game in Space Engineers really does not exist in my opinion.. I think the game or save you are playing ends when you run out of imagination and things to do. lol
@@Beeblebum End game starts when you have a jump drive equipped ship and the ability to land on planets, it's at that point the game provides nothing new, the end of the game is when you get bored of it, end game =/= end of game. 1. Awesome video thank you. 2.
