      This could lead to unwanted behavior, sadly. A player in a cockpit does not take damage from welders, so flying a ship into a welder wall is perfectly safe, but the sensor will still detect the player in the cockpit and turn off the welders, thus making the welder wall useless. Unless you set the sensor range so low that the player is basically touching the welders, and even then it's debatably useless.

      Regarding the welders and assuming they are in a group or timer block of their own already, just placing down a few lights and adding them to the group would do the same job, no real need for the event control at all. 😁

    Personally, I'm using 2 AI blocks (Move & Recorder) and a timer block to automatically dock my miner after returning with ore, I've got the timer block setup to toggle the AI Blocks on/off and run the autopilot and follow the waypoints, on the last waypoint I set it to trigger the timer block again (shutting down the autopilot & handing the control of the miner back to me). I used to HATE docking to connectors, and dreaded the return of a mining run each time because of this. Now when I return I just need to get close enough to not have anything blocking the path and then trigger the timer block, everything from that point on is fully automated :)

    Regarding the welder-wall warning lights, if you want to get really fancy with it you could tie those lights to a timer block, then tie the timer block to the event controller. The result is that you have lights that not only turn on, they blink on and off. Add a sound block to that and you can have it play a warning noise. Presto, flashing lights and klaxons.

      @@GleebTorin You can also put your warning lights AND welders into a timer block, trigger it with a button for ON/OFF, then a sensor to do the same with friendly players detected, it will come back on automaticly once said player is out the killzone. I make everything like that because i hate "grouping" it clutters the k-menu when you have alot of ships docked and ppl forget to name it right. Thrusters off, batteries and tanks on recharge, lights and antenna out = all in one timer block = triggered with sensor on "detect subgrid". Don't need automatons for that. But cheers on your vid anyways, I'm thinking i'll use that light on ore/h2/O2, with containers & sorters, to detect low on ingots of certain kind. No need for scripts like autolcd or isy's inventory management.

And then added a cargo check to se if there is space in the cargobay for more stone. When it had space it mined and then turned of when full. I didn’t need to supervise it at all. I just started playing this game in February 2024 on my old rickety ps4 and im already in kove with it. Albeit that I'm a novice and only have the basics down. I am very excited to get a better understanding of the intriqitue mechanics of this game. I've been itching for a game like this since the first time i played Kerbals. I kove designing and engineering in games, maybe uts in my blood. My father is a retired mechanical engineer with approx. 50 years experience. Whilst my mother was a gifted artist. So i was very blessed for my genetic traits. Where artistry and engineeringnhave been figuratively and literally married into one.
    So with that said, I cannot wait until I understand the mechanics of this game. The things I'm already envisioning in my head I am excited to bring them to life!
    So, I appreciate people who make videos like this. Thank you for the time and effort, I subscribed and will be watching all your stuff, keep up the great work!

    Great stuff, didn't see too much new to me as I have some systems like this too plus some stuff for additional automation & convenience. I'd tell more about that but I'm not great at "telling" best when I "show" stuff like that... That said, the Welder Wall at the end, I got 4 Small Grid printing bays on my base with a more complex safety system.
    2 Event Controllers (1 for Tools ON, 1 for OFF) a warning light & a sensor to shutdown tools if someone gets too close. Just got done setting up the last 2 printers yesterday but it's not the only thing I have done, sensors are vital for me because they keep working when my Server Ping is too high & have saved me for certain death before.

    Not Automatons related, but one of my favorite thing to do with lights is when you have a hanger you're flying into...I put lights on all 4 sections of the hanger entrance. Then I put a corresponding sensor. I set them up so if my ship is going collide with any part of the opening, the corresponding light turns on and I know to adjust. I guess I could just setup an automation sequence now...but for ships that you don't feel like adding flight controllers to, it's a nice way to let pilots manually enter a hanger without hitting the entry walls. LOL

    Good ideas except for the last one. That one was a stretch to use the event controller purely for the sake of using the event controller. You can get the exact same result from adding the lights to the same group you use to turn the welders on/off. A better safety feature would be a sensor that turns off the welder group if a player gets too close. That, of course, doesn't require any event controllers, either.

    • @GleebTorin
      @GleebTorin  Год назад +2

      I've actually had some great use out of this. I use this on a multiplayer server. Some people don't think to look for a group and will just turn the welder on by itself. By using the event controller in this way, no matter how the welders are activated, the warning light comes on.

    • @anonymoususer3561
      @anonymoususer3561 Год назад

      @@GleebTorin To this I would have said "Use a timer block and set the entire group.", but an event controller is 40% the PCU so your solution is the best, as long as there are no more than 3 things to do at the same time.

    • @mailleweaver
      @mailleweaver Год назад

      You can set the welders to not share with your faction so other players have to press a button that is shared and toggles the group. Or set a detector to only turn on the welders when a grid is in range so nobody ever has to manually turn them on in the first place. Using an event controller just for lights isn't going to hurt anything, but it's unnecessary.

    • @ChozoSR388
      @ChozoSR388 Год назад

      Yep, I use cut-off sensors on my welding ships, too, since I sometimes forget to turn the welders off before jumping out of the cockpit. I set the field to encompass the cockpit, the welder(s) and around 5 to 7.5m out in front of the welder contacts. Set to detect players only (but not enemies >:) ) Works like a charm

    • @SamShannon
      @SamShannon Год назад

      @@mailleweaver An event controller to switch lights based off manually toggling welders might be unnecessary, but it combined with the projector toggling for when blocks go missing has given me an idea for an automatic 'red alert' mechanism for my mothership that I've previously not bothered to do because it'd require a PB.
      Making lights start flashing when events occur (depressurisation, taking damage, running low on something, etc) is a neat usage for an EC that I hadn't considered.
      So the specific usage here might not be the most useful thing to copy exactly, but it's a good source of inspiration for mentally bootstrapping your expectations of what the controllers can do.

    I tried my own cargo status light for when my ice amount on my ship was 25, 50, 75% but it wasn't working right with multiple cargo containers. Does it not take an average of all of them but monitors the percentage on all of them and would only light up when all containers are reading below 25% for the 25% light to activate?
    I'm trying to wrap my head around how it works :(

    • @GleebTorin
      @GleebTorin  Год назад +2

      It doesn't take an average, no.
      If the AND gate box is unchecked (as it is by default) then the output/condition is true if any of the blocks meet the criteria (like greater than or equal to 50%).
      If the AND gate box is checked, ALL of the blocks must meet the criteria.
      Let me know if there's anything else I can clear up. :)

    how have i never noticed the extra slots of the event controller lol, i’ve been using timers because i can trigger multiple blocks with a single button press instead of creating 1 event controller per block/group

      They don't exactly scream that those slots are there, to be fair. I had to be told that they were there before i made this video.

    why does this game label hydrogen as H2 instead of H?
    I know a lot of things are simplified for game-play reasons, but it's bugging me why they added an extra 2.

    • @GleebTorin
      @GleebTorin  2 месяца назад +2

      Hydrogen atoms are most stable when they share electrons in pairs. Since each hydrogen atom only has one electron, they naturally pair up with another hydrogen atom to form H₂, which is the most common form of hydrogen you'll find.
      So, while a single hydrogen atom is represented as H, the hydrogen gas used in the game (and in real life) is actually made up of these H₂ molecules.

      That's a good question, I've struggled to find an answer. I like to think that the complexity in the setup means it's less impactful on your sim speed, but I've never actually tested it.
