I was a bus driver in Edinburgh from the 90s until 2023 this song really resonates with me,ive seen so many changes in Edinburgh not all for the better (Edinburgh council get a grip next to no toilets in the capital)and long story short i pick up one of the proclaimers on the number 10, always very polite happy to talk to folk on the bus about the amazing song catalogue they have especially during the festival so patient with people they are what i would call true gentleman artists. To all the tourists over the years ive so enjoyed taking you all over Edinburgh thanks for making my job a a pleasure.

My dad was born and bred in Edinburgh for almost 40 years and has been living in Canada since 1996. He watched this video the other day and it made him so homesick. My original plan was to move back to edinburgh( I lived there till I was 6) but I met an English girl while working on ships for two years so now I'm stuck England lol.... Will get her up there eventually, wish me luck... 😁😉

My mum is from Edinburgh. I went over when I was 7 to stay with my grandparents for a few months. That was before it was "cool" to be Scottish (pre Braveheart) and mum had my first kilt made for me at 5 yrs old. My friends hadn't even heard of Scotland! I went back to visit relos, after my grandparents passed, when I was 17. I haven't been since the '90's. I grew up in NYC but my heart is in Edinburgh. I'm now a mum and I can't wait to show my daughter her roots! This song is everything.

I am Welsh and get up to Edinburgh as often as I can as I love it so much, I cannot describe the feeling I get knowing I am coming back, then walking up the ramp at Waverly and the city comes into view.... then how my heart hurts when I have to leave. This song made me cry as it totally sums up how I feel about her. Thank you xxx
Funny you mentioned the Waverley station ramp... here's my take on it... I was a student travelling all over Europe for 3 months on an InterRail holiday. I'd had a superb time, then came up the ramp on a beautiful sunny morning and looked around at Princes Street Gardens, the castle, the old town, North Bridge... I appreciated just how lucky I was to live just 2 miles away from this, the most beautiful city in the world.
I'm from Edinburgh but live in Wales. The feeling when you arrive in that city is phenomenal. Although I fly up and the big RBS poster on the side of the airport car park gets me every time. It has a picture of the Castle and the simple words " This is home".
The Proclaimers have a way of evoking emotion like no one else. I can have chills up my spine listening to a song about a city I’ve never been to. How is that possible? I guess they make us feel the emotion as part of a collective consciousness, together as one world.
I'm from Panama but I'm watching this video bc my boyfriend is from Scotland and he recommended this song to me. This only increased my desire to go to Scotland and see the beautiful city of Edinburgh. I can't wait. Thank you Fraser for making me feel a little closer to you with this beautiful piece.

To add to what Danielsauntiejo has already said about this superb city, I am a very very English Englishman and very proud of our capital London as nothing beats coming over one of her many bridges at dawn with a mist hanging on the majestic river Thames whilst snaking its way through some of the most beautiful sights at that time of the day, But then there is Edinburgh with its amazing Gothic look and a real feel of magic whenever you go there which has never left me or felt any less than the very first time I went there to watch a Scotland v England Rugby match at Murryfield right back in the early eighties, that turned my opinion that Twickenham was the best ground to watch the best Rugby to be played, as that was the start of my love affair with the fabulous City of Edinburgh its super lovely people and one of the warmest welcomes you will get anywhere in the world. So to The Proclaimers , well done fella's you have summed up your super, super capital so well in this song, I just love it thank you both very much. Greg

Sadly, The Proclaimers are, here in the United States, known for "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" because it was included in the film "Benny and June" and for "I'm on My Way" being used in "Shrek". The depth, beauty and quality of their complete discography is positively stunning. Even as a fan since "Sunshine on Leith" (somehow I initially missed the first album) I have probably underrated them. "The Streets of Edinburgh" is so shockingly gorgeous that it's almost difficult to process. In this song, they do something taught by Japanese monks from hundreds of years ago. The monks taught that we all wear three masks. The first mask we show the world easily. It's essentially fraud, but it's what we create and show to survive or because we think we must show that face in order to create or maintain the life we want. The second mask we show those close to us. To our parents, our children and close friends. It's closer to the real us, but still keeps some of us private from those people. The third mask is who we really are. In this song we are hearing them sing of Edinburgh while wearing their third mask. So not only is the song sublimely written, shimmeringly produced and positively spine tingling to listen to, but it is their absolute 100% complete total transparent unfiltered truth. I am almost incomprehensibly moved by this song and so much of their work. I think we cry when we hear this song and others by The Proclaimers not only because it is such a gorgeous song, but because it is also their "Beautiful Truth" In most of the world, and perhaps especially here in the United States, we so very, very seldom see or hear that from anyone. So the tears we cry when listening to "The Streets of Edinburgh" are tears of joy because they represent the hope that everyone in the world should, can and will, eventually, at long last, proclaim their real selves and their real truth to one another.
Well sadly most people in America or in Britain or anywhere kind of like crap pop music. I had the pleasure of seeing them in Louisville kentucky. Walking down the street towards the theater and here they came. Had a brief chat and then an incredible concert that included Pogo dancing and a mosh pit
I'm leaving Edinburgh to work abroad on Saturday. I've lived here since I was born 25 years ago and Edinburgh will always be my true home. I have memories in nearly every part of this city and hope I never forget a single one. See you soon Edinburgh, never change.
Nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent. In Greek, "nostalgia" literally means "the pain from an old wound." It's a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone.
Never lived there myself (from Dundee), but I have relatives there that we visited all the time, and I absolutely love Edinburgh. Such a beautiful city
‘Any good’!? Beautiful song, beautiful city so only good can come from the best Scottish anthem for many years!! Craig and Charlie once again a priceless asset!
For those in Melbourne on Friday 10th March 2023 the lads will plat at Atheneaum Theatre - it'll my first time seeing them live - who else will be there??
As a mother of twins I have been always loving these guys so much! They get better and better every year like the wine. This song is a fine, precious gift. LOVE from Italy
sometimes it just hurts too much to watch this video, to listen to the words. I am so in love with Edinburgh and I am saving my pennies to go back for a long time.
From the west coast, no a Hibee but man, I love this band and have done since we played their tapes in school in the 80s. This is a beautiful song. Glory glory to The Proclaimers.
I was supposed to be back in Edinburgh, back in the UK between July 23 through Sep 23, 2020. I miss Edinburgh. This song brings me to tears. Next year, please God.
I'm sobbing. What an absolutely beautiful love song for my dear Edinburgh. And I'll be seeing her streets and ghosts in just 2 weeks! It'll be my 14th visit and I'll be humming this song as my flight lands. Oh ❤️❤️❤️
Absolute belter of a song; got it blasting through the house as I type this. The video is a masterpiece. Well done lads. Sons and daughters of Edinburgh all over the world will be watching this and feeling a very strong pull homewards.
Not just the sons and daughters of Edinburgh. Even an auld Weegie can appreciate the love that Craig and Charlie have for their city, but they've obviously shown that before with "On Causewayside" and "Sunshine on Leith". I don't think I've heard them harmonise better than on Streets of Edinburgh tho - my only disappointment was this not being part of their set in Cambridge a few weeks ago.
I haven't followed these lads closely since "500 miles" days, and shame on me. What a great song and thanks for giving me the means to sing of the City I love.
This is the best and most emotional classic song ive heard. These type of songs are close to extinction...felt sad that no one can carry on their legacy.
I'm from Cork in the deep South of Ireland. Now I want to go to Edinburgh, I've never been! But in many ways the beauty of this song is that it speaks to love of home. There will never be any place like home. It's where all the people who meant most in your formative years, lived, loved, and died. Beautiful song.
Why is it that a Romanian lad that has only been there 3 times as a tourist can spot ANY Edinburgh skyline photo you show him... I simply love that place.
I used to live in Edinburgh. This song is so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. The Proclaimers are my favourite band along with the Manic Street Preachers.
The Manics are absolutely superb. Their music keeps on improving as they age gracefully. It carries an emotional punch through the melodies, lyrics, and James Dean Bradfield's guitar playing and vocals.
I grew up in Edinburgh my mother brought me here from California she was a war bride and moved to America after world war 2 and decided to leave America and come home to Scotland. I went back to America and I just love this song with all my heart Scotland is in my soul.
What a lovely song and how happy I am for coming to Edinburgh over Hogmany this year. Coming back to Scotland is, and were, always what I want. This time I will come back home to with this new CD in my bag. Thank you Proclaimers.
Born & bred in this unique , magical city with an incredible history stretching back over 1,000 years this wonderful song really stirs my soul reminding me of loved ones who are no longer with us. My 2 other favourite tracks with Edinburgh connections are : 'What it is' by Mark Knopfler & 'Royal Mile' by Gerry Rafferty.
This is such a beautiful, emotional and heartfelt song, the lyrics are poignant and harmonies magnificent. True magic by The Proclaimers. I am not Scottish (actually a Sassenach) but I love Scotland, the people of Scotland and music from Scotland. I wish you all the very best for the next vote for Independence. You must do what is right for all who make Scotland their home. Sending peace and love.
I have seen them live twice, absolutely fabulous. I had Make My Heart Fly as my wedding song 3 years ago. I am Glaswegian but do not want independence at all.
My grandparents came to America from Scotland. My family mostly lived in dunoon and Glasgow. I grew up hearing so many wonderful stories about it and when I turned 18, I had saved up enough money to go for the first time for a week. I went through Edinburgh, dunoon, Glasgow and mallaig. I hope I can save enough money to go back. All this to say, thanks proclaimers. Whenever I feel homesick for Scotland, I listen to you guys. Even watching a hibs game and hearing them sing sunshine on Leith makes me smile. Thanks
Edinburgh is stunning due in no small part to the Castle in the centre Glasgow has some fine Edwardian buildings and of course the people make a place what it is too. The Proclaimers for all I don't agree with their political stance always seem to capture from the heart what most of us feel about our home towns. Pity they weren't from Glasgow!!!!
I'm from the US and we know only the (500 miles) tune but I just found their others such as this one, which are even better! What a shame that were not privy to these other tunes!

Along these broken pavements
I let my mind run free
The past and the present
Seem just the same to me
The people I have loved most
Among these stones did dwell
And in the plainest language
Their stories they did tell
They pass, they pass
They pass, they pass
The streets of Edinburgh
Hold half the world for me
In scores, in droves
The living and the ghosts
The streets of Edinburgh
Mean most to me
Depending on your viewpoint
This place is blessed or cursed
And in the years I've lived here
I've seen the best and worst
An air of sordid passion
A look of dirty grace
But not right in your face
It's not that kind of place
They pass, they pass
They pass, they pass
The streets of Edinburgh
Hold half the world for me
In scores, in droves
The living and the ghosts
The streets of Edinburgh
Mean most to me
Down greasy potholed roadways
I watch the traffic crawl
But for the cars and buses
I give no thought at all
I think about the future
I wonder at her health
How with this human wealth
She does renew herself
They pass, they pass
They pass, they pass
The streets of Edinburgh
Hold half the world for me
In scores, in droves
The living and the ghosts
The streets of Edinburgh
Mean most to me
Ta!😊

I think we cry when we hear this song and others by The Proclaimers not only because it is such a gorgeous song, but because it is also their "Beautiful Truth" In most of the world, and perhaps especially here in the United States, we so very, very seldom see or hear that from anyone. So the tears we cry when listening to "The Streets of Edinburgh" are tears of joy because they represent the hope that everyone in the world should, can and will, eventually, at long last, proclaim their real selves and their real truth to one another.
What a wonderful comment. Thank you
@@kiefersunderland2297 thanks.
Love this...
Well sadly most people in America or in Britain or anywhere kind of like crap pop music. I had the pleasure of seeing them in Louisville kentucky. Walking down the street towards the theater and here they came. Had a brief chat and then an incredible concert that included Pogo dancing and a mosh pit
Great and thoughtful comment sir...and i fully agree.....the third mask is the scariest, but the one which we should reveal more
I'm from Yorkshire and spent my honeymoon in Edinburgh. I love the city and the people...and yeah, the song isn't bad neither!!!
I'm so glad that I can visit my favorite city with a 1,5 hour flight from my hometown Hamburg. I'll always come back to you, Auld Reekie!
I'm leaving Edinburgh to work abroad on Saturday. I've lived here since I was born 25 years ago and Edinburgh will always be my true home. I have memories in nearly every part of this city and hope I never forget a single one. See you soon Edinburgh, never change.
I work overseas.. And coming hame to Edinburgh still excites me.. And I'm 63.. :)
Murasame do you have one about saughton
Nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent.
In Greek, "nostalgia" literally means "the pain from an old wound."
It's a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone.
Big love from India! What a beautiful place, Edinburgh!
Not many cities get such a beautiful love song! Must be one special town indeed!
trust me it is
Never lived there myself (from Dundee), but I have relatives there that we visited all the time, and I absolutely love Edinburgh. Such a beautiful city
Absolutely beautiful. Thankyou, Proclaimers, for all your wonderful, thrawn and loving music.
*play
As a mother of twins I have been always loving these guys so much! They get better and better every year like the wine. This song is a fine, precious gift. LOVE from Italy
I've been living in Edinburgh for 4 years and it is my dear home ❤️ My place on Earth.
sometimes it just hurts too much to watch this video, to listen to the words.
Scottish voices and music make my soul melt 😭
I'm sobbing. What an absolutely beautiful love song for my dear Edinburgh. And I'll be seeing her streets and ghosts in just 2 weeks! It'll be my 14th visit and I'll be humming this song as my flight lands. Oh ❤️❤️❤️
Cracking, ain't it? x
And also her adopted children at large... I miss Edinburgh so much!
Got stuck in Auchtermuchty last week due to a serious accident, what went through my head...the boys souls are still in residence!
I haven't followed these lads closely since "500 miles" days, and shame on me. What a great song and thanks for giving me the means to sing of the City I love.
Gotta love the boys of Leith xxx, and what a belter of a record.
This is the best and most emotional classic song ive heard. These type of songs are close to extinction...felt sad that no one can carry on their legacy.
I'm from California USA...and I love Scotland!!! And I love these two guys..love all their music.😊
I'm from Cork in the deep South of Ireland. Now I want to go to Edinburgh, I've never been! But in many ways the beauty of this song is that it speaks to love of home. There will never be any place like home. It's where all the people who meant most in your formative years, lived, loved, and died. Beautiful song.
.Absolutely beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes even though I have never been to Scotland. I just love Charlie and Craig.
I'm from the Highlands raised in Glasgow but love this song,Haunting
As a West Coast Highlander I put my hand up and love this city, this song is brilliant, moves me
My Grandad came from Ullapool......I need to go..Edinburgh is beautiful too.
I’m from Glasgow and it brought a tear to my eye. Its up there with these are my mountains.

Listening to this as I'm getting ready to move to Edinburgh this week ❤
This song always makes me so homesick and miss my grandparents back home. Im not from Edinburh but the lyrics is also so true for my own hometown..
two songwriters and performers at the top of their game ,absolutely stunning song
Why is it that a Romanian lad that has only been there 3 times as a tourist can spot ANY Edinburgh skyline photo you show him...
I simply love that place.
Proud to an proud Edinburgh born lad miss you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely beautiful song. I love these guys music, so heartfelt and authentic.
I used to live in Edinburgh. This song is so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. The Proclaimers are my favourite band along with the Manic Street Preachers.
Excellent taste you have
simsonie Thank you.
I am pouring with tears every time I watch this. Oh how I long to be back and walking those streets of the city I love.
What a lovely song and how happy I am for coming to Edinburgh over Hogmany this year. Coming back to Scotland is,
and were, always what I want. This time I will come back home to with this new CD in my bag. Thank you Proclaimers.
So am I crazy because I want to hear this song everyday? It and Sunshine on Leith bring tears to my eyes every time I hear them.
ALWAYS TEARS IN MY EYES.. SUCH A WONDERFUL SONG.SO GOOD WOW.
I love the passion and energy of this song. The harmony is beautiful. You make me long for a place I’ve never been.
Thanks
This song has come to mean so much to me, and I find the melody and words running through my mind and soul.
I'm from Brazil and I Love Scotland
Eu também! Love bonnie Scotland.
Danilo Borges we Scottish love our Brazilian brothers and sisters 👌👌👌
The song and the boys are a credit to Edinburgh, the most beautiful city of them all
A fantastic song about the most beautiful British City- Glasgow NO Pub!!! 😁
the quote by WTMc was Glasgow was the second most beautiful Scottish city of them all
Edinburgh is stunning due in no small part to the Castle in the centre Glasgow has some fine Edwardian buildings and of course the people make a place what it is too. The Proclaimers for all I don't agree with their political stance always seem to capture from the heart what most of us feel about our home towns. Pity they weren't from Glasgow!!!!
As someone born and bred in Edinburgh, I've waited years for a song like this to be written.
Well done Craig and Charlie.
Inctedibly beautiful ballad! Can't get enough of it! Powerful lyrics and so intensely emotional! Fabulous!
Beautiful song. It makes me feel emotional as my mum was Scottish.
Poets The Pair Of Them Absolutely Fantastic.
I'm from the US and we know only the (500 miles) tune but I just found their others such as this one, which are even better! What a shame that were not privy to these other tunes!
The Proclaimers are an absolute goldmine of excellent songs - check out "Act of Remembrance"
