Or maybe it was nice to see nas' version of the vision. The sample came back to life, the intro to me was done so well and made me grin. Since I already ha so many visions of illmatic, it simmered them down a bit.
💪💪 Exactly!! Just listening to the tracks in Illmatic speaks volumes in the head. Music videos kill the imagination. This video is just a random collage of different clips and doesn't really fit the song so it doesn't ruin the pictures you make in your head but I would've liked to see a more fitting video.
The music holds its own weight, but Nas did have five music videos back in the day for four of the songs off the already notoriously short album. This music video doesn’t hold weight at all for the song.
I used to play this song 20 times over and over on cassette tape back in 1994 and 95. I was only 14. Had to rewind it. Y'all remember rewinding tapes! This shit was amazing then and it still is now that I'm 34 years old. A warning to the youngsters. Time fucking flies people!
Only thing I thought was off was the clips of Nas with a cigar. The lyrics are clearly from a poor uncomfortable person then you have him smoking a cigar, showing his watch and relaxing. Everything else made sense and fit. Even the old east clips.
i dont want to be that guy but what they shouldve done is a real throwback video. straight up oldschool apparel from the 90s, and recording the footages with oldschool equipment to make it have that actual dirty vintage feel to it. like going back to the 90s one last time. i don't think that wouldve been hard to do, and the result wouldve been much more awesome than this.
+The Benevolent will be Trivialized You're fucking stupid. "You people can never just enjoy something good"? What kind of stupid comment is that? How do you know what "we" like or not? The video should fit the song. This doesn't fit with the song at all. He made a video concept around the sample, but people won't understand that. The song isn't about the sample. Portray the song when you are doing a video! Shit..
I’m from the uk, 32 now, I was 3 when this album came out, I remember hearing rap tunes on mtv, in the days before RUclips, and I heard nas- bridging the gap featuring olu dara, must have been 2004, and then I started to get into hip hop, I bought a copy of the source magazine from a borders book shop, and it said that Illmatic was arguably the greatest hip hop album of all time, I bought it, I reckon I know every word to every song on that album, I still listen to it regularly now, it’s up there with sergeant peppers lonely hearts club by the Beatles and rumours by Fleetwood Mac as one of the greatest albums ever made, if you close your eyes and listen you can imagine you’re stood on a New York Ghetto street corner. An absolute masterpiece and a lesson in lyricism and production. A gift for future generations. It should be taught about in schools much like Shakespeare and Keats. Thank you.
Finally! The thing about this video coming out 20 years later though, is that the song is still relevant because this is classic! #MyFavoriteRapper #Illmatic
The beat is impeccable! Top greatest beats ever made! And the lyrics! No words! Can't even explain how ridiculous this track is its what hip hop is all about!
Nas didn't need videos for any song off illmatic. You listen to the sounds and you just feel like your in Queensbridge. His storytelling is incredible. I've never been to NY but illmatic makes me feel like I have. Same as the intro the "Killah hills 10304" from GZA. Hip hop in the 90's was something special.
🔥🔥🔥🔥Its Crazy I have Been Listening To This Album For Over 20 Years....And It Still Feels Like The 1st Time Every Time I Listen To It🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Real Rap Is A Beautiful Thing🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nas definitely up there as one of the illest, not to mention the crazy consistency that you can turn on an older record or a newer one and get the same level of lyricism
Someone needs to teach the kids why Illmatic is the definitive hip hop album, immortal and untouchable.
+TheCodedtestament Indeed

No need to do music videos for any illmatic songs, just close your eyes and let the joint talk for itself
Or maybe it was nice to see nas' version of the vision. The sample came back to life, the intro to me was done so well and made me grin.

To this day I still get chills when I hear this beat. I might still be stuck in 90s rap but this has to be a top 5 in goat songs.
Yea the alternating feel of the beat and the thinking is beautiful
It's the worst song on the album
@@FSVR54 clown
@@illmaticw0w look how triggered you get over an opinion. One of the songs has to be the worst
@@FSVR54 which song do you think is best from the album? not trying to argue at all, just curious
4 mins in front of any building in Queensbridge would've been better. Love Nas..but not what I think of when I bump this classic.
BoBo N. RobinSon right
Yea for sure this music video sucks, but the hook was sampled from an old pirate musical. I suppose thats what this footage came from but not sure.
It's coming from "Thief of Bagdad", a 100 years old movie (search for Lee Erwin Thief Of Bagdad)
agreed. i dont even get the video to be honest im confused lol. guess thats why you dont hold contests for videos
Only thing I thought was off was the clips of Nas with a cigar. The lyrics are clearly from a poor uncomfortable person then you have him smoking a cigar, showing his watch and relaxing. Everything else made sense and fit. Even the old east clips.
LYRICALLY UNTOUCHABLE!
I feel Nas done a better job creating imagery than the video.
the piano at about 0:25 - 0:35 is awesome one of my favorite songs ever
