Robert’s son Karac died in 1977, four years after this tour Robert has never fully recovered, as might be expected. And then he lost his best mate in 1980. Allot of dark times are associated with Zeppelin in Robert’s mind. One of several reasons he refused to be a part of reforming the band I think

This isn't all of the actual footage for this song. In the concert footage, this is John Paul Jones' "fantasy sequence" which depicts him as a "highwayman" primarily, a thief on horseback, but generally someone out doing wicked things in the middle of the night. He wears a mask throughout except when he returns home to his loving wife and children as the mild-mannered husband/father. It's Jonesy's reflection of "what happens on the road, stays on the road" as long as he comes home safe and sound to his family. I agree with what someone else said, you should watch the movie with a watch party.

Maybe best solo of Jimmy. one of the most inspired of rock... and he plays it live, improvised, God . supreme drumming: Bonzo never where you wait him ...Unreachable trio with JPJ. I heard this version more than 2500 times since 45 years. Its always shudder me like the first time: its just the perfection of very very high musician totally serving their inspiration coming from ...I dont know...A spiritual moment No word , timeless magic

That's why I still listen to the original release. I don't like the alternate versions of the songs. I still don't understand why they just didn't release a triple live album like Yes did three years earlier. If that album sold well, then a triple live Zep album would have flown off the shelves. Hell, I would have brought two double live albums to get the entire concert experience. All Zep fans would have.

When Robert sings 'the dogs of war...' and Jimmy waves his arm to activate the theremin- there follows a sublime example of how Robert never hits a note straight- on. He sidles around it, dancing closer then further,, then slides in to engulf it... and own it. Precision action to counterpoint Jimmy's cool precision. And JP and Bonzo support the two exquisitely. Hey, Pope- I love these guys as much now as I did on the first run- through. And they join Floyd, Jethro Tull, The Who, The Kinks, Supertramp, Rush and Dire Straits as the ONLY bands who do that. Well Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, The Band, The Drifters, Yes in there too.

Don't know if anyone mentioned that after the line "...the dogs of doom are howling more", you see Jimmy point his open hands toward his left and then back - he's using a device called a theremin that produces a wavering frequency sound when the hand passes near its antenna; the closer towards the antenna one moves their hand, the higher the pitch goes and vise versa. Thanks for the reaction.
