Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have already said for one reason or another that they refuse to participate. Tom Felton would be happy to, but you are not gonna get the three original golden trio members to participate. Daniel has spent a lot of time disassociating himself from Harry Potter, Emma doesn't like Rowling's politics and Rupert refuses to do it without the other two.
If they do this, the first 4 or 5 seasons must arrive annually. The children will be growing too fast for the 18-24 month delays typical of most prestige streaming shows these days
I believe that will be the case - they want to spread it over 10 years like the films were so means some seasons will have to be annually - it will be the later seasons when they probs need more time on them
It's one of those things where you ask why? But also at the same time, you think....yeah I get it. I hope the kid that plays Harry has got tough skin and a good family behind him. And yes, the audience is definitely there. It better be good.
I think there is so much potential for spinoffs. So it would be great to do the original again.... maybe have a spinoff of aurors hunting death eaters. Or the other schools. Or even do a spinoff of Harry's parents.
I think folk need to realise that this isn’t just for THEM. Yes we’re fans of the books/movies and it’s something special from our youth…..but the youth today never got to live that and now they can. Casting will need to be nailed though, get the cast right and they’re golden.
Most people are talking about casting for the trio, but I think the most difficult role to cast is that of Snape. Alan Rickman was sublime in that role. I just can’t imagine a better performance for that role
One of the weirdest things about the 1st book/movie is that Harry doesn't cast a single spell from his wand. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Harry using magic in Season 1.

Well it makes sense for Harry Potter to be expanded into 7 seasons considering there's 7 books. It's not like they don't have a plan. The source material is all right there. All that matters is execution.
I think the idea of one book per season is really cool. Now I love the Harry Potter movies, but they did cut a lot of worldbuilding and characters from the books. As long as the Fantastic Beasts crew and WB don't mettle with the writing and directing, I'm willing to give the show a chance.
I still feel this is very misguided from WB and HBO. Unlike say, the two Percy Jackson movies, which are widely reviled by the fans and by the author itself, the Harry Potter movies are pretty evergreen, with heavy involvement from JK, still feel fairly new, and they play on tv and on streaming constantly. On top of that, the imagery of the movies is all over the merchandizing and in the theme parks. It makes it very hard for a new version to work because the comparisons will be constant and it will always be in the shadow of the movie series. I can imagine it will be very difficult for the three kids who play the main roles, or even some of the adults. Imagine having to be the next Snape after Alan Rickman or next Hagrid after Robbie Coltrane. Its also a series where the effects have aged pretty well, outside of maybe the first movie. The production value will be another thing that is tough to live up to. I honestly think they had the right idea with Fantastic Beasts, just poor execution. The first Fantastic Beasts made a ton of money, and the second one did pretty well too, despite poor reviews. It was the dropoff in quality that caused that series to suffer. I think a series set in a new era of Hogwarts, away from Harry, Ron, and Hermione, would have been better for the long term health of the franchise. And honestly, there is so much stuff they could do. There is the founders era, the Marauders era, battle against Grindelwald etc...
So down for this. Love the books, and even though i think the movies nailed the art design and score, etc, i had a lot of issues with the direction and story choices
It will do well. Hope the actors cope well with the hype once it comes out. The 7 years won't be an issue since there'll choose young actors who will grow with the role.
I mean I will be there watching it even though we don't really have access to Max in the UK but I will be watching when I can, and I was born in 2000 after the 1st movie came out but am a big fan of all the books and movies with Order of the Phoenix being my all time fav and my nephews are big fans of the movies.

The issue is wouldn't the kids really grow up quickly ? They must shoot the first 2 seasons at a stretch otherwise the kids are going to grow up very quick. The first two HP movies released in consecutive years.
It should be 10 seasons. The last three books are long and have a lot of material in them to fit in a single 8-10 episode season. Or they should do expanded seasons of 16-20 episodes split in 2 parts.

This is a very tricky topic. I believe THERE IS a solid audience that can be interested in HP show, but also many people under 25 doesn't know about the story or simply don't care in finding out, although some are people do care I'd dare to say it's minority. Unfortunately in a world where Facebook or IG are so common, once the casting is announced there's gonna be immediate comparisons with the original actor or actress especially with the original trio and I don't think a studio and streaming service should put kids under a pressure like that because IT'S GONNA BE A LOT OF PRESSURE. And also there's the almost inevitable inclusion of LGTB characters. Nothing against that but the books were published in the 90s, and even knowing that Dumbledore turned out to be gay, as far as I know there's no non-binary, transgender, gener-fluid or whatever kinda character in the wizarding world, and writers could be under the pressure of marking an inclusion of this kind and IF they do, I don't think it would be the right thing to do. To sum up, I REALLY BELIEVE IT'S TOO SOON BECAUSE THESE MOVIES ARE STILL VERY PRESENT JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL TRIO OF ACTORS
I think Warner Bros is just desperate to earn their money back after the box office bomb of Fantastic Beasts. It makes me think that quality isn’t gonna be a priority with this series. I think what they need to do is what Star Wars did and expand the universe, but do it properly.
The other huge problem with a story spanning 7 seasons such as this one is the commitment from the actors to stay on board. Isn't anyone else also worried that if it takes them 2 years to produce each season, the child actors will practically be adults by their 3rd or 4th year at Hogwarts?

I'm definitely interested in this idea but I reckon they should reveal immediately the big twist endings so we can get more an insight into Dumbledore and Snape's backstory early on. I just think it would be weird for them to hold that big secret about the unintended horcrux for almost 7 seasons when most of the people watching the show will already know. Hopefully they do change that aspect up because then I reckon it could be a really interesting show, different to the movie experience.
I'm nervous about having a whole new cast of actors to get to know and see how they compare to all of our beloved actors from the films. But overall, I'm very much looking forward to this series!
Feels like they learned the wrong lesson from the failure of the fantastic beasts movies. Those didn't ultimately fail because they weren't more of the same. They ultimately failed cause they weren't good enough movies, or at least that's the common consensus.

I was more hung up on the flaws of the movies as they were coming out. I had issues having to do with them not being faithful adaptations in this or that way. You know what though? I've had 10-20 years to get over that sort of thing, and now that I have I can just accept the movies as worthwhile for what they are. Give them another look perhaps.

I see it as fleshing out the original work. And nothing is truly original anyway, everything is a combination of preexisting things in new ways. I'm fine with this. I always thought novels were better translated to filmmaking via long-format television series rather than 2-3 hour movies.

The fact that the og Potter is still going so strong is exactly the reason why I'm against starting it over.

@@MarkEvans-xw5ixI think it's even more complicated, or maybe more simple, than that. Primarily, she doesn't want men to be able to get access to women's toilets by pretending they are trans-women, if I understand that correctly. Apparently she has some trauma in that regard because she was abused.

Ngl I had this idea in 98 - I always felt the books leant itself to tv more than it did movies but at that time no one was making tv shows like it
Hated the movies, couldn’t watch past the third one but this is something that could help me in to the world if done right.

I was more hung up on the flaws of the movies as they were coming out. I had issues having to do with them not being faithful adaptations in this or that way. You know what though? I've had 10-20 years to get over that sort of thing, and now that I have I can just accept the movies as worthwhile for what they are. Give them another look perhaps.

Its not a great move. I would much rather have a founders, marauder, or quidditch series. The Harry Potter movies were perfection and still hold up today.

@@tayzk5929 make something original. we already have a great harry potter movie franchise. what is the chances of this being BETTER than that? almost 0% so what is the point? Even if it is somehow better we already been through the entire rollercoaster so it's not gonna hit the same way emotionally. They could be allocating all these resources to making something new which can inspire us all once again.

There's a lot the movies couldn't portray that a tv series can, and J.K Rowling is involved. I see it as fleshing out the original work. And nothing is truly original anyway, everything is a combination of preexisting things in new ways.
But if you feel you're done with the HP universe and happy with it as is that's entirely valid too.
Its going to bomb. No shot it finishes or gets close to 7 seasons. The harry potter movies are minor miracles.
Why? Interest in this world is still sky high. If the show is good it will be a huge success just like Hogwart's Legacy.
Harry will be a black lesbian woman,Hermione will be trans etc,No Thanks!
