Gloria Estefan and the Miami Soundmachine seem to have been overlooked in today’s time. She was huge in the 80s. “Here We Are”, “Cuts Both Ways”, “Don’t Wanna Lose You”, “Anything For You” and others. They really were a machine, hit after hit. Gloria is a great role model.

They were really good weren't they? Like other groups that stood out they had their own unique sound while still being like everything else we all liked at the time. This isn't the best example of her vocals either, the ballads are good to show that.

Could not agree more. Miami Sound Machine started out as a novelty act, basically, then turned into a hit-making machine. Estefan has a great voice, and the band was tight as a tick. Great stuff.

"1-2-3" and "Get on Your Feet" are two other great singles by Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. I always loved this music group. Later, in the 1990s, Gloria Estefan would achieve another hit that I enjoyed, "Turn the Beat Around" as a solo artist. Oh this a great rabbit hole! Gloria Estefan was a trailblazer. We had never heard this type of music before, and she became a legend. Here We Are, Destiny, Steal Your Heart, Oye, Bad Boys, Music of My Heart, Anything for You,...so many more. She had many Spanish-language albums, but Mi Tierra was just a masterpiece to me. Con Los Años Que Me Quedan, Mi Tierra, and Volverás are three beauties.
Coming Out of the Dark was another powerful song. She was involved in a horrific tour bus accident where she nearly died. They told her she would never walk again. When she walked out on that stage to sing Coming Out of the Dark,...it still makes me teary-eyed remembering it.

With regard to the "keytar", the purpose is mobility. The artist can come out from behind a stack of keyboards or piano and interact with the audience in a similar manner as the guitarist and bassist.
Roy Wooten did the same thing with his drum kit and called it a "Drumitar".

Gloria was pure Salsa!! 🔥 Suggest Gloria Estefan 01-28-91 American Music Awards. It was her return after a horrible bus accident that initially thought would paralyze her for life. It's an extremely powerful and emotional performance. The lyrics will explain it all. Another ome was her performance of Always Tomorrow after Hurricane Andrew.

I liked a lot of Gloria/Miami Sound Machine's early albums, with "Primitive Love" being a particular favourite (the CD has some good bonus tracks too). I really enjoyed the CD single remixes for two covers she did as a solo artist later on - "Everlasting Love" and "Turn The Beat Around" - but that was the last time (1994!) she released anything noteworthy really.

I went to high school in Tampa and played trumpet in the jazz band with the saxophone player, Michael Scaglione. He’s one of the best sax players I’ve ever heard play to this day.

I used to play this song on my car stereo cassette player when my kids were little. For months straight! Every time the guy does that low "oogh" sound, my baby one-year-old son would do it on the exact right timing! We have a family like yours, the two sisters then a baby brother. The girls would just get in fits of giggles when he did it.

The Synthaxe is a keyboard controller for synthesizers, drum and percussion sounds and really any sound you can record electronically. It's a synthesizer played as guitar (axe) as we knew them back in the 80's.

"Axe" for guitar actually goes back further, as there's a cover of a certain instrumental from the '60s called "Yakety Axe". 🤪
