Glad you guys enjoyed the song and video. I was the original guitarist for Miami Sound Machine (the guy playing guitar wearing a Panama hat in the video). It was cool watching somebody watch the video for the first time 36 years later.
I loved you guys! If I had a bad day at work when I was 21, I would put my tape on with my favorite songs on it so, I could dance. I had earphones on with an extra long chord & the music was blaring. It was also great at weddings. The whole place would be up, even my Mom. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. It is such a Blessing. Y'all we're great! Be safe.
I have great memories of this song from my childhood. When this came on the radio, it hardly mattered if you were a Dutch kid in IA, you were doing The Conga.
Love Gloria Estefan! She has a lot of awesome songs to get hooked on. "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "1-2-3", "Dr. Beat", "Get On Your Feet", "Anything For You", "Bad Boy", "Coming Out of the Dark", "Here We Are", "Mi Terra", "Oye Mi Canto", "Don't Wanna Lose You" and "Words Get In The Way". Oh, FYI, the guy in the blue jacket on the conga drums is her husband, Emilio Estefan, who is also her manager.
As a Miami girl in a Cuban family I can tell you Gloria Estefan and the Miami sound machine is still played at EVERY SINGLE party we have from birthdays to Noche Buena or a just plain old Monday night as your cooking in the kitchen. Yessssss! Love the effect this song had on you guys!!!!!!
saludos a todos los cubanos en miami. saludos desde uno boricua en pennsylvania. me encanta gloria estefan. este exito es increible. me gusta mucho celia cruz, tito nieves, marc anthony, y gloria. gloria es increible
Gloria was HUGE back in the day. She had a terrible accident, well they all did (I think it was the tour bus that crashed) But she survived, and came back even stronger. 💖🎵🎸🎤🎶💃💃💃💃💃
Yes I remember that, it happened near my hometown. I was a kid and she was huge at that time. The tour bus crashed in the snow near Scranton, Pa. They were pretty messed up but I believe everyone survived and eventually came back better than ever. Man, that must've been the late 80s!?
Not to contradict you but i think that accident ruined her career, she was never the same, breaking her back, she couldn’t dance like she did before the accident and her voice lost some power which is very understandable after that tragedy, this story resembled a lot like billy idol, he too was never the same
Yes when she came back did that song coming out of the dark. Great song great comeback. However. The accident happened at the peak of her career, she couldn’t dance as well due to a broken back and was out of the game so long the group lost its momentum and never was as hot as they were pre accident.
I swear, the best part of this was watching the two of you light up and come to life when the horns came in, followed closely by Gloria's awesome vocals! That caught you completely off guard, and it was freakin' AWESOME! This song is from 1985. Check out their 1987 hit "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" if you wanna hear another banger from them! Not that those are their only two hits, mind you.
Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine had 6 top 10 hits including 4 #1's. They were huge in the late 1980's! edit- You will love their "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" and "1-2-3"
UNDERRATED!! They were the shit! Hits upon hits, upon hits. Now I have to revisit their hits. There were quite a few. Loved them. They looked & sounded great live. Their tour bus were involved in a really bad accident. Gloria couldn't walk for a long time.
She actually broke her back in that bus accident. I still remember the horrible feeling when the news came out. Everyone thought it was over for them but she was a fighter and came back from it, and continued to produce some beautiful music afterward.
@@CardiacCat I actually was at one of her first concerts after that wreck that she performed without the back brace (near Chicago..can't remember the actual name of the venue). "Coming Out of the Dark Tour". She busted her butt to come back from that wreck, and she came back with a vengeance! :)
This song was released just before my very first DJ gig, and I've played it at nearly every gig I've done, and it still fills the dance floor. That Cuban flavor just can't be stopped!
You need to hear Gloria sing - "1-2-3", "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "Don't Wanna Lose You, Now", "Words Get In the Way", "Bad Boy", "Coming Out of the Dark", (inspired after having a broken back from her tour bus being crashed into by a large truck. Her husband and son were also on the bus and had less extreme injuries. There's an English and Spanish version) "This Christmas", (first by Donny Hathaway) "Everlasting Love", "Turn the Beat Around", and more. The last two are remakes of songs from the disco/'70s era.
As 40yr old cuba-merican, born & raised in Miami, I can't fathom anyone not knowing this song. It's been played and danced to at every major event (bdays, weddings, quinceñeras, etc) throughout my whole life. So glad you both enjoyed it.
Being Mexican American (mixed) as a teenager in the 80s (and being in eastern Oklahoma no less) she gave Latino music a voice. We would buy her cassettes in English and Spanish.
RSR Family Gloria is royalty here in Miami. That's right I live here and some great music has come from here. This song was huge back in the day. This is the Latin sound that took over here in the 80s. I'm the son of Cuban immigrants and this band was important to the Cuban community. It's always about the beat with latin music.
I didn't think I'd like her music back then but quickly became a fan. My favorite song of hers is "Words Get In The Way", but she had several great songs. The wreck she survived was terrible, and I watched her reemergence on some awards show years ago. "Coming Out Of The Dark" was a moment I remember. Have a great day!
Jay and Amber, the rhythm definitely got you🤗 Really enjoyed your reaction. This is a rabbit hole you'll love going down. Gloria Estefan's body of work is extensive. She opened the doors for many Latin artists. She has received many accolades and awards. She was honored at The Kennedy Center Honors in 2017. Enjoy the journey. We certainly will!!
Gloria and Miami Sound Machine were insanely huge. They were literally everywhere. So many hits. This is what started it all. We have been dancing to this for almost 40 years and there are no signs of stopping.
From an old white guy that went to so many concerts in the early 70’s , 80’s and 90’s I’m so glad to see young folks experiencing the sounds and talents of the bands I grew up on. Chicago and the Doobie Brothers was my fist concert in 1974. Love you guys !!
You CAN'T NOT DANCE to this...this song will wake me up out of a dead sleep... LOVE LOVE LOVE Gloria and the MSM!! She's always been my pick-me-up-always-feel-good playlist. :) Thanks for adding her to Female Friday >> must do more :)
Gloria Estefan is a legend. She was one of the first Latin music superstars to achieve a true global crossover into the popular market, long before Ricky Martin and Shakira broke through as solo artists. You could put on her greatest hits and be stunned by banger after banger after banger.
This song always filled the dance floor! Gloria Estefan has a one of a kind, gorgeous voice. You have to hear a slower song like "Here We Are" to really appreciate her voice.
When The Miami Sound Machine came on the scene. They killed it..! No one sounded like they did and the fusion of Cuban and American music is impeccable.
Yeah and amazing survivor after experiencing a terrible tour bus accident that could've left her paralyzed if it weren't for her workout routine strengthing her lower back muscles.
I've been SO hoping you guys would listen to Gloria Estefan! She's a marvel. An amazing vocalist, songwriter, performer. You've begun an amazing journey... :) Other great tracks include "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "Don't Wanna Lose You", and "Coming Out Of The Dark"....
Gloria Estefan is Cuban, and the band draws heavily on Cuban music; a signature feature is that the piano is driving the tune's propulsive rhythm. It sounds pretty distinct from the music of Selena, Linda Ronstadt (both of whom are of Mexican heritage) and Marc Anthony (Puerto Rican). Next Stops, Gloria Estefan Edition: "Get on Your Feet" "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" "1-2-3"
There's some similarity to Puerto Rican music, as there was a lot of cross traffic between the islands, with a lot of Cubans going there when the Communists took over Cuba. That's why Bacardi rum is in PR.
That piano style is popular in mambo and salsa. Salsa is a mix of different styles from different latin Caribbean countries, but was most popularized by Puerto Ricans in it's start. Mambo is it's close older cousin and is definitely Cuban.
Great reaction you guys glad you finally got to Gloria Estefan she has a bunch of great songs among them The words get in the way and turn the beat around which is a cover.
Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine was such a sensation with this song and they kept churning out hit after hit all through the 80's into the 90's just kind of mainstays on the radio. Just really great songs and she's a beautiful woman and singer! She has some really upbeat songs and a lot of love ballads! "Words Get in The Way" "Here We Are" "Don't Want To Lose You" "Falling In Love" "I See Your Smile" "Bad Boy" I LOVE Gloria Estefan!
You also forgot Rhythm is gonna get you.... Rob N Amber....The Song you are hearing Is from The Primitive Love Album....The one on the Drums (Enrique "Kiki" Garcia) and Gloria Wrote The Song together...It definately Was the song that celebrated The Conga Beat,With The Rhythm Song Having the beat Called Biembe..Another song created by both Garcia and Estefan!
As a student, I would put this record on as a maxi single (Vinyl, extended version) in the morning to wake me up, instead of coffee :-) I loved this song and the band and Gloria. Conga is so unique.
The rhythm of Cuba where Gloria and her husband are refugees from! So yes this is your Latin beat with pop music. Quite popular in the 80’s and 90’s. In fact Gloria wrote a song for closing ceremony at the Atlanta Olympics.
She was huge as a group and even more huge as a solo artist. She has many many songs for you to react to. You would love THE RHYTHM IS GONNA GET YOU she has some great love songs and dance songs. Great Songwriter too. Her story of almost being paralyzed after a tour bus accident is an incredible story and she released COMING OUT OF THE DARK a tribute to what happened.
So glad you've finally gotten to Gloria Estefan and the MSM. I knew you'd love it! :) For a couple more songs from them that will make you want to get up and dance, try "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" and "Turn The Beat Around" (which is their cover of a 70s disco classic). I've never heard her post-accident song "Coming Out Of The Dark" but so many of the fam are suggesting it here, I feel like I need to go check it out now... :)
Coming out of the dark is an amazing song by her. It's about how she came back after a bus accident that broke her back and they didn't know if she would walk
Back in the 80s she was one of the best. Not gonna lie. She was one of my celebrity crushes. As a matter of fact my name for her was Gloria EstaFINE. Lol. Great reaction family. Keep up the good work. Much love
Been waiting so long for you to do one of their songs. Gloria has so many hits. She's always true to her roots. Her husband is in the band. They have been married for a long time. Two great people.
I’ve been waiting for you to do Gloria Estefan… clicked on this right away 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 If you want to introduce yourself to another Latina of that same time… Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam is very much the vibe coming out of NYC when rap was first crossing into main stream. Their song “All Cried Out” is an epic back and forth heartbreaking ballad. She has such beautiful range in it.
@@txheadshots I don’t remember her being associated with Prince or Paisley Park Studios… I do remember her coming up through the NYC club scene and she was like 17. Lisa Lisa & TCJ was still doing block parties when their first single came out.
Thank you so very, very much. This was one of the greatest songs that I have ever heard in a long, long time. I really mean it. I enjoyed it very, very much God bless the both of house and of course God bless Gloria Esteban and the Miami Sound Machine. Adios.
Another deep hole to drop into..like others LOve Gloria! never a bad song! great reaction. They do everything from heart wrenching ballads to the definite dance tracks. Legends. Love your reaction as well.
Love it!! She also has a beautiful voice on ballads. "I Can't Stay Away From You" was a song I used to cry every time I heard because it reminded me of an old flame.
This was a time of style, Miami sound machine, Miami vice, Latina beats, 80s hair, 80s excesses.. Gloria is a wonderful artist. "Turn the beat around" is my favourite amongst many great songs. Lovely Latina pop.
"Coming Out of the Dark" was a great song as well!. If I remember correctly, she wrote it about surviving a plane crash. She broke her back and lost many people she cared about.
Loved her growing up, the musical of her and her husbands life is such a great show [called "On Your Feet"] just an amazing life and career and when the accident happened and people thought she might die [or never walk again] was such a big emotional event back then, and her first live performance after is incredible. For horns, sax and a great beat you have to do "The Rhythm is gonna get you" and her first live performance after the accident that almost claimed her life of "Coming out of the dark" is a must watch.
Amber, your body took over and fit right into the Conga!!!! You are right, you just can't sit still when they begin!!! More Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine!!!
Oh lol- sometimes I forget the massive volume and diversity of top quality music from the 70s to mid 90s that so many have no idea about. I love her and the band. Always good
One of the greatest get-up-out-of-your-seat songs of the entire decade. Such an amazing horn-line, the piano and percussion and Gloria was so exuberant and beautiful. An iconic track from a legendary Cuban artist with a fantastic video!
For me (& most people), it is impossible to sit still when a song by the Miami Sound Machine comes on! They introduced the music mainstream to the Cuban vibe in the 80's. Definitely also check out "The Music's Gonna Get You" , "Turn the Beat Around", "Get On Your Feet" & "Anything for You", which showcases Gloria's beautiful vocals. The band was involved in a serious accident while on tour in 1990. Gloria was severely injured & nearly died. Doctors weren't sure she would even be able to walk again, but not only did she walk, but was even back dancing a year later on her comeback tour. She is an awesome person & does a lot of charitable work for the Latin community, abused children & music education. Her husband, Emilio is also in the band.
My dad worked as a claims adjuster and had the accident that happened w/her tour buss on his desk for a few mins before the lawyers came down and snagged it off his desk. I remember hearing about it that day and my dad came home to tell me that. She was a great singer and performer.
Love Gloria she's awesome, she's from Cuba, grew up in America. Other songs I live of hers are Turn the beat around, Rhythm is gonna get you, Get on your feet, 1-2-3, Dr Beat & Can't stay away from you. I think you'll love them all guys.😎👌🎵
Your reaction when the horns started was awesome! This is my favorite reaction from you guys yet. Thanks for that. Thanks for showing love to this song, Gloria Estafan, and the Miami Sound Machine. I was 10 years old when this song came out and loved it then, love it now, and every moment in between. They have a great catalog of hits. They were truly innovative pioneers of their time.
As a musician I just love complex Latin rhythms. Gloria Estefan is a hugely talented artist who at one point had to come back from a terrible back injury. I have always admired her musically and as a person.
Great song to dance to. I’ve always loved Gloria Estefan. You will also want to listen to “Turn the Beat Around”. Many years ago their tour bus was in a bad accident. killing some of her band members. I don’t remember all the details, but it was very sad.
The band’s accident was so so tragic, and everyone was so worried about Gloria, but she came back after her recovery. What a great group, and this was their signature party song!! She also sang some beautiful, slow ballads. A great, great talent!!
Love Gloria Estefan. I remember when I first heard this song. I had just started college, and I heard it on my car’s radio. I had some friends with me and we were all jamming!
I just loved that seconds after Amber said: I wish I can dance, Gloria Estefan chimed in 'don't you worry, if you can't dance. Let's the music move your feet. Great reaction as usual, guys.
Glad you guys enjoyed the song and video. I was the original guitarist for Miami Sound Machine (the guy playing guitar wearing a Panama hat in the video). It was cool watching somebody watch the video for the first time 36 years later.
This was and still is a favorite of mine and in fact love everything you guys did. Thank you for blessing us with your music❣❤❤❤
I played this album to death, and still love it today. You guys are amazing. Much love.
Very cool! I partied big time to this song in the early 80's or thereabouts...did you know Jon Secada?
I loved you guys! If I had a bad day at work when I was 21, I would put my tape on with my favorite songs on it so, I could dance. I had earphones on with an extra long chord & the music was blaring. It was also great at weddings. The whole place would be up, even my Mom. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. It is such a Blessing. Y'all we're great! Be safe.
I have great memories of this song from my childhood. When this came on the radio, it hardly mattered if you were a Dutch kid in IA, you were doing The Conga.
It’d be hard to overstate how this band took the world by storm in the 80’s. Legendary.
This song was a huge hit in the Philippines. My mom absolutely loves this song.
My vote, too, for Get on Your Feet.
And she wrote most of all those songs! She is amazing!!!
All of this!💥
I second every single one of these, and would add my favorite, "Can't Stay Away From You".
Also, don’t forget
“Can’t Stay Away From You”
“Cuts Both Ways”
And “Falling In Love” (Uh-Oh)
As a Miami girl in a Cuban family I can tell you Gloria Estefan and the Miami sound machine is still played at EVERY SINGLE party we have from birthdays to Noche Buena or a just plain old Monday night as your cooking in the kitchen. Yessssss! Love the effect this song had on you guys!!!!!!
As a German boy who grew up in Denver, I LOVE THIS SONG!!! I first heard it in California while a young Marine. Cuban music is soooo much fun!!
saludos a todos los cubanos en miami. saludos desde uno boricua en pennsylvania. me encanta gloria estefan. este exito es increible. me gusta mucho celia cruz, tito nieves, marc anthony, y gloria. gloria es increible

Yep, I remember it, she broke her back. I think the song she did for the Olympics was her comeback after the accident

Gloria Estefan is great and a tough woman. She almost died in 1990 but she come through all that suffering and trained hard.

The real hits are timeless
Gloria's remake of "Turn the Beat Around" is still one of my all time fave songs. OMG You just have to get up and dance.
I loved the original " Turn The Beat Around" sung by Vickie Sue Robinson was fantastic, but I too like Gloria's remake better.
It takes me back to car rides with my dad.. he always had them playing in the car ❤
I love her ballads, "Anything For You," "Don't Wanna Lose You" and "Words Get In the Way"
'Words get in the way' is especially beautiful.
Yes there a must ..beautiful .
I see your smile, here we are, cuts both ways, also awesome by her
Also Here We Are, Cuts Both Ways

Words get in the way just shows her true ability as a gifted singer. I've always liked her/them.

A pure classic, first came out in 1985. Translated into over 100 languages. So catchy it will be played for thousands of years to come
Coming out of the dark is an amazing song by her. It's about how she came back after a bus accident that broke her back and they didn't know if she would walk
Love this band!! When this song came on the scene, it was such a breath of fresh air!! STILL love it today!! Thanks for the review!!
I’ve been waiting for you to do Gloria Estefan… clicked on this right away 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
If you want to introduce yourself to another Latina of that same time… Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam is very much the vibe coming out of NYC when rap was first crossing into main stream. Their song “All Cried Out” is an epic back and forth heartbreaking ballad. She has such beautiful range in it.
Yes! "All Cried Out" Yes!
Lisa Lisa was a Prince protégé, wasn’t she? And was also half of the duo Lisa and Wendy?
AnOther Prince discovered lady is Sheila E
@@txheadshots I don’t remember her being associated with Prince or Paisley Park Studios… I do remember her coming up through the NYC club scene and she was like 17. Lisa Lisa & TCJ was still doing block parties when their first single came out.
This song jump started every boring party!
Amber, you've got half the dancing thing down. Great chair dancing!
Thank you so very, very much. This was one of the greatest songs that I have ever heard in a long, long time. I really mean it. I enjoyed it very, very much God bless the both of house and of course God bless Gloria Esteban and the Miami Sound Machine. Adios.
Thanks for the reaction. These guys were at the top for a long run and the songs have staying power. GO!
Another deep hole to drop into..like others LOve Gloria! never a bad song! great reaction. They do everything from heart wrenching ballads to the definite dance tracks. Legends. Love your reaction as well.
I love Gloria Estefan, but this song is further down the line of my favorites of hers. You will love exploring her great music!
PLEASE do Selena "I Could Fall in Love". Selena was a queen, and now a Goddess. Her voice was mesmerizing, even now.
Yes Please do Selena!!!
Yes!! And more Gloria!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Selena yes!! Como la Flor!
Selena was about to explode. She would have been JLO before JLO but unfortunately you know what happened.
I grew up listening to Gloria Stefan
I remember un the 90s when she recorded a full album in Spanish. A legend.
The best thing to come out of Miami hands down. No auto tune, pure talent.
Love it!! She also has a beautiful voice on ballads. "I Can't Stay Away From You" was a song I used to cry every time I heard because it reminded me of an old flame.
Turn the Beat around is my favorite Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine songs
This was a time of style, Miami sound machine, Miami vice, Latina beats, 80s hair, 80s excesses.. Gloria is a wonderful artist. "Turn the beat around" is my favourite amongst many great songs. Lovely Latina pop.
This was her very first hit, reaching #10 in early 1986. This is definitely a rabbit hole worth going down.
RHYTHM IS GONA GET YOU ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ THE BEST. such an iconic song
"Oye..oye.. " groove to it.
"Coming Out of the Dark" was a great song as well!. If I remember correctly, she wrote it about surviving a plane crash. She broke her back and lost many people she cared about.
It was a bus accident.
A semi truck hit her tour bus
It was a tour bus crash.
As others here have said, tour bus was hit in the rear. She was in the back of the bus when it happened. 1990.
It happened (the bus accident) in Pa. It was a bad snowy night. They are lucky to be alive.
.....and this....is why we like the 80's. Such a great time.
I adore her Spanish language solo album Mi Tierra and the song on it titled Ayer .. it’s beautiful
Always good
You had me dancing with this one
One of the greatest get-up-out-of-your-seat songs of the entire decade. Such an amazing horn-line, the piano and percussion and Gloria was so exuberant and beautiful. An iconic track from a legendary Cuban artist with a fantastic video!
First…and I’ve been waiting for this!!
🏆 🥇
The Rythm Is Gonna Get You is a banger. Words Get In the Way is very beautiful. Gloria could sing anything to me and I would like it.
Saw Gloria Estefan & And The Miami Sound Machine with New Kids on the Block live on Boston Common 1980 Fantastic show!
My dad worked as a claims adjuster and had the accident that happened w/her tour buss on his desk for a few mins before the lawyers came down and snagged it off his desk. I remember hearing about it that day and my dad came home to tell me that. She was a great singer and performer.
Australian fan of Gloria - her song Reach used for the Atlanta Olympics is one of the many great Olympic songs and one of her best vocally!
Please check Miami Sound Machine "RHYTHM GONNA GET YOU"!
I love this band!
Does not matter where youre at once this song is on whether you like it or not you are going to sing along and dance to just the way it is
💯
Gloria and Miami Sound Machine is a fav! Love that smokin' hot Latin sound. They have a few I really like. "Rhythms gonna get you" is also very good!
I haven't finished but I just knew you guys would love them
I grew up in Miami and was a huge fan of Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine! They have a lot of awesome hits!
They were all over the radio back then. They were huge!
Her first reaction was everything!!🎶🎉🎊
Love Gloria she's awesome, she's from Cuba, grew up in America. Other songs I live of hers are Turn the beat around, Rhythm is gonna get you, Get on your feet, 1-2-3, Dr Beat & Can't stay away from you. I think you'll love them all guys.😎👌🎵
YES TO ALL OF THESE!
The Undisputed Queen of Miami. She is one of the kindest people on the planet.
They are so amazing 💕. Saw them in concert with Jon Secada opening.
Jon Secada was also fantastic. Must have been a great concert.
@@johnj2763 It was absolutely amazing. Sold out show. Great memory. 💕
I've always loved this live-wire latin song and Gloria. She also has a beautiful love ballad, I Live for Loving You.
Great reaction as usual, guys.
they were known as "The Sound of Miami" in the 80s.
