Laura is one of my favorite old skool singers. She passed away way to soon. She had such a powerful voice and was underrated in my opinion. If you get a chance to checkout her cover of the song The Power Of Love and the song Solitaire her voice explodes.
“Gloria” is such a dynamite song! Moves fast, just like the title subject, who makes rash decisions in her life. Laura Branigan was such a beauty! Gone too soon but never forgotten. She showed her sultry side in her track “Self Control” and the music video is really hot, too! The vid was directed by The French Connection/ The Exorcist director William Friedkin and was banned by MTV because they thought it was too risqué. The irony & hypocrisy of MTV when almost everything that has since aired on their network after they stopped playing music videos has been risqué in one way or another! “Gloria” & “Self Control” - two of my favorites tracks out of so many from the ‘80s!! Saeed, my man, you’re making me relive my youth! I love it, thank you!!
To hear her range, check out Solitaire and Shattered Glass. To hear her dance floor appeal check out Moonlight on Water. Love songs check out Power of Love and I Found Someone. Adult contemporary listen to How am I Supposed to Live Without You and Hold Me. Tearjerker songs are How Can I Help You Say Goodbye and It's Been Hard Enough Getting Over You.
wow, i remember this song being played almost every friday night at our home football games, it was the first song they played as the clock went to zero after we lost, so almost every other friday..lol
Laura had a beautiful, strong voice, and as others have said, many of her songs were covers, but she did so much justice to them. " Self Control" was another major hit for her. 2nd only to this one. I remember back in the day, people would have hurricane parties when hurricane Gloria was headed towards land. This is the song they played. Yeah, they were idiots for having a hurricane party. Gloria died way too young from a brain aneurysm. May she continue to rest in peace. Thank you, Saeed, for reacting to another beautiful soul. Much love to you and your family ❤️ 🫂.
Definitely want to check out Self Control. This is the first time i heard about hurricane parties. Thanks for watching. Much love to you and your family 🫂❤️
Laura Brannigan was one of the great disco divas. Maybe only Donna Summer was maybe more popular, her "State of Independence" is a great track with some baffling lyrics.
It was featured in the Netflix series Eric. In a scene were Benedict Cumberbatch is high on cocaine and alcohol, he hits the dancefloor and dances with an imaginary monster.
Love Laura Branigan!! She was my favorite singer after Donna Summer!! A couple of her songs I reccomend are Solitare, Shattered Glass, The Power of Love.
I remember watching this at the time. Had a huge crush on her. I was 10-12 years old. Would never admit it and didn't fully understand why. But I watched intently.
Yes indeed. Love Gloria and others she did, but The Power of Love is such a beautiful song, performed by a lovely and talented woman, unfortunately gone too soon.
As a kid my primary/elementary school would play the song "let's get physical" by Olivia Newton John. On the surface it's a song about exercise but if you actually listen to the lyrics it's way to dirty to have 8 year olds dancing too. Lol

Think u got it wrong think Laura is actually on Gloria's case cause she Gloria thinks she's all that and it's apparently not true 😂 I'm having a hard time explaining. This is why she says if everybody wants u then why isn't anybody calling 😂 and alias because Gloria is just being a fake
The song was used in the film "Flashdance", Tozzi's version was used in "The Wolf of Wall Street". The Italian version, told from the perspective of the male singer, is about a man fantasising about his imaginary dream girl and telling how miserable his life is without her. Laura Branigan said, the lyrics of her version are about a girl "running too fast for her own steps". Laura Branigan's best known songs are covers but she had some great originals too like "The Lucky One" or "Heart of Me", the latter one with the French eurodisco pioneer Cerrone. For me, one of the most "uplifting happy music with thoughtfull and/or serious lyrics" song is "Désenchentée" by Mylene Farmer. The live performances are outstanding (one must always watch till the end). ruclips.net/video/X03vY9afNbo/видео.html

What a voice! She is so much better than Celine, Mariah etc..
At the time in 1982, there were comparisons to her and Donna Summer having a similar vibe
Was HUGE in the day!
Her Mom was my sister’s elementary school teacher
I still cannot fathom she died from a brain aneurysm so randomly. She lives on though and then some.
