I love Chuck to death and think his riffs were amazing but think his tone on symbolic and SOP is to be desired. The engineer was probably slapping his forehead but was able to make it sound... ok. Using a solid state marshall valvestste amp? And those ultra high gain pickups. To me sounds very tinny and way over distorted(artificially). The leads are where it really shows. I saw death live in 99 and Chuck's amp made my ears want to bleed with the tinnieness. Much prefer an iced earth or in flames (claman) guitar distortion, where they rely on an overdriven tube amp myself. Of course, just my opinion.

YES! RIP Chuck, worth skipping the patreon pick this one time. The first time I came down to Florida to visit my brother when he was going to school down here was one of the first fund raisers for Chuck. It was at the House of Blues here in Orlando. the line at what is now Disney Springs caught my attention so I asked what everyone was waiting to get in to.
I still think Spirit Crusher is the song to check out from these guys but Death really doesn't have bad songs. I did like Chucks later vocals more. Chuck is also the lead guitarist for the band. He was also the lead guitarist and songwriter for the band prog metal band Control Denied. The last song on the last album chuck worked on was the song The Fragile Art of Existance, its incredibly sad but incredibly fitting.

@@soakedbearrd at what cost? The irony if single payer

    • @soakedbearrd
      @soakedbearrd 5 лет назад +1

@@ChristoRedentor777 Heck of a lot cheaper than what we (as in the people and the government) pay for now. Government already pays for medicare and medicaid, which costs a total of 1.3 TRILLION annually (not counting VA hospitals which average just under 200 billion). So when talking about the cost of single payer that amount has to be deducted because it is no longer needed. Another issue is that pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies (and medical supply companies) can charge essentially what they want, not so with single payer, prices would drop because it would be one contract: the government. Thats why places with singer payer (literally every other 1st world country) have cheaper per patient costs.
How much does a single payer system cost per year? Bernie Sanders plan is estimated to cost 1.3 trillion annually. This also isnt addressing the lessening of bureaucratic red tape (administrative costs) of having different programs with each having its own regulations, restrictions, necessary paperwork and policies. Its streamlined into one system. There are many other benefits as far as costs when you do the real math but Ive already made a wall of text.

I don't try to be a good person to make God love me, I know He already loves me enough to die for me while I was still dead in my sin, so now I try to be a good person just because I love Him back. Go back and watch some interviews. What a sweet kid! What awesome riffage! What tremendous leads. All of this coming from the sweet misunderstood kid in school (my image of Chuck) who expressed his alienation in branding a new form of metal and that was ALL he wanted. RIP Chuck!

This band is what got me into Extreme Metal. His vocals, guitar skills, and lyrics created such an out of this world atmosphere. I also like he didnt have to sing about gore and satan in order to create awesome death metal. Very progressive as well. Check out his final project called Control Denied. It had the same lineup as the final Death album did but with a lead singer added. The music was clean vocals and it was more prog/power metal. Their 2nd cd was never finished and released. Chucks sister owns the rights to it.

I really wasn't expecting this, thank you so much guys. Death was /is extremely important for what they created (Scream Bloody Gore, 1987, is usually considered "The First" Death Metal album ever, some people go with Seven Churches by Possessed, 1985) and for the way they did it. In a time when almost every band was trying to be "the most brutal band on earth" and he led the path towards technichality, melody and general progresiveness. This is more evident on the lyrics where instead of going to horror / gore lyrics (I won't be a hypocrite, I love those, they are a lot of fun) but he touched on a lot of important topics: war, abortion, euthanasia, jealousy, and the importance of being true to one self, among other stuff. The song you just listened is the first of the album of the same name (1995) and the lyrics are inspired on the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche.
He was a very nice guy, he always tried to defy the "badass / macho image", just watch one of the interviews (there's an actual compilation of many of the, the video is around and hour and ten of fifteen minutes).
Chuck Schuldiner had a very tragic illness which culminated with his family on bankruptcy, he was never rich by any stretch of the imagination but he had made good enough to have his own house and car, which he had to sell to pay for the treatment and still couldn't make it.
On your "Grunge Week" last week, you asked for ideas to some "x week" and someone (Jason I guess) recommended Tech Death Metal. Death where a important part of that subgenre so he is without the shadow of a doubt the Godfather of Death Metal but also one of the pioneers of Progresive Death Metal and Technichal Death Metal. For more references check out the video of bangertv on the subject.
Finally, some suggestions for Death: "Evil Dead", "Leprosy", "Pull The Plug", "Within The Mind", "Genetic Reconstruction", "Suicide Machine", "Cosmic Sea", "Jealousy", "Out Of Touch", "1000 Eyes", "Without Judgement" (I put that song on your poll and vote for it everyday, shameless plug, jeje...), "Spirit Crusher" and "Voice Of The Soul" (you used this particular song as background when you reacted to 1349 a few months back).
Once again, thank you, have an awsome day with your kids and family.

Death easily one of my favorite bands of all time. As an extreme metal they were quite eclectic and diverse which each album sounding completely different to each other. The earlier death metal albums like scream bloody gore and leprosy were traditional death metal albums that were inspired by imagery from horror films and that were incredibly dark with some of Chuck's best vocal performances. I feel they perfected that style too especially with leprosy which I feel has some of the best riffs and songs in the genre and then they slowly shifted to a more progressive style either incorporating elements of jazz fusion like in human or incorporating avant-garde like in sound of perseverance. Chuck could be likened to a jazz band leader who thought about how different musicians would contribute to his ideas and hired them based on how they fitted to the album or his ideas that is why they had so many different lineups in the first place. Each musician filled his niche and contributed to the albums immensely as well. They have had some of the best musicians throughout their entire lineup. I do feel this is the band that has maybe has had the best drummers a metal band can have. In symbolic, they had got Gene hoglan as their drummer and he completely outperformed himself. His performance in this album is otherwordly and hence it requires several listens to observe his every bit of nuance. Bobby koelble played the guitars on this album and he also plays the solo here which is phenomenal. He is from a jazz background and is a jazz guitarist who doesn't really play that much of metal but he still played a strong part in this album and contributed something different. The bassist Kelly conlon is not as standout and definitely more subdued compared to someone like Steve digeorgio that played in death but he still plays a really important role and does a great job. This album was considered as their masterpiece and a metal masterpiece and you can see why especially because of Chuck's vision in terms of the song writing and the lyrics followed by the special contributions of the musicians. The riffs that Chuck wrote on this album were outstanding and many of them were heavily thrash influenced. Try listening to the riff during Bobby's solo and the verse after that. In addition, Chuck's vast influences from the heavy metal band sortilege to the shoegaze band my bloody valentineand his own vision could be the reason why this band was so eclectic and rich in the first place. I just couldn't contain myself in giving my two cents on this band and how much they mean to me so I am sorry for my long post. Thank you for this amazing unexpected tribute and reaction.

The ongoing battle... Was Death or Possessed the first Death Metal band? Possessed had very Death Metal lyrics but they sounded more thrash based in my humble opinion. Vader actually was the first Death Metal band to begin but when they started, they were Speed Metal so they cant take the banner. Its about who broke through and made an impact and not necessarily about who did the style first.

The song is about having so much care and trust...only to realize that no one really cares at all. They just pretend to. You realize this as you get older. Chuck figured it out before the age of 30...it really didn't dawn on me until around 50 years old. You're on your own, boys and girls.

"Life ends so fast, so take your chance and make it last..." That's Chuck's testimony. He lives in our heart and minds. He has left a "story to tell". Chuck, you have finished your parennial quest, so now, rest. We will behold the flesh and the power it holds, and we will not live it, as it is the beginning of the end. Thank you, Chuck. I hope we will meet one day... when life is the matter of a memory.

"shull-DEE-ner". Lead vocalist main songwriter and the band always had dual lead guitarists, Chuck always being one of the two. Definitely one of the most underappreciated instrumentalists ever. His styles in both guitar playing and vocalizing we're both unconventional and hard for a lot of people to get used to, but he really was a genius and he inspired an entire genre of music that splintered into many subgenres over and over. He's been gone for a long time, but metal would not be what it is today without his influence.
