Yo I’m the guy from Subway! It was cool meeting you guys
Jason Willis hey it’s Jason from subway !
It's Obvious "Believers " will always disagree with Deicide ' s Lirics...
Jason, thanks bro!!

Live with Damien Boynton on vocals.
Glen Benton's best vocal performance is on that album.
Hellyeah they definitely should!!!
Once Upon the Cross album is one of Deicide's best produced albums.
Hardly... Maybe listen to Legion
@@rassawhelan6045Legion is good but it sounds rushed.
They know the lyrics are legit right away😂😂😂
Debut sounds like thrashing shit but i love it bcs its trve cvlt🤣
First album & Serpents of the Light are my favorite
What I love about this channel is how instead of just being blatantly offended and talking crap they take an in depth view and give an open minded opinion on it which is probably what you wouldn’t really expect with a title like “Christians react to Deicide once upon a cross” and other than that they just seem like real genuine nice people
MORBID ANGEL ! I'm surprised that you haven't had any request to take a listen. Definitely one of the great death metal bands. In my opinion much more musical structured and lyrically. It would be very interesting to get your reaction.
MORBID ANGEL: Covenant ; rapture, God of emptiness!!!
I agree 100%... Morbid Angel is probably most atmospheric death metal band... My suggestion is anything from Covenant album or Blessed are the sick... maybe from FFTTF...
I use to request God of Emptiness a lot. But I'm not a patron.
I mentioned this more then once
Also, Invocation of the Continual one is a top MA song...
Mark Martin Altars of Madness is masterpiece
The voice in the beginning was a sound bite from William Dafoe in the movie he portrayed Jesus in ‘The Last Temptation of Christ ‘ 1988
That was a horrible movie.
I always thought it was from The Omen 1975 when the priest got impaled. I learned something today.
Cool didn't know that
You mean Willem, his name is Willem, not William.
Willem short for William
Bolt Thrower - The IVth Crusade
All in favour of an Old School Death Metal week say aye, Deicide already falls into this category with the first couple of albums(the albums before this are on a whole different level)
AYE, AYE, AYE, AYE, 1000 times AYE.
aye. I wanna see them do some old Suffocation. something off Effigy
I would be so happy if they did this, I cant begin to describe how tired I am of Tool...but I have my doubts, I suggested a Pantera week when Vinnie Paul died but that didnt happen. Inverted fingers crossed but dont hold your breath...
Hell yeah, some classic Cancer, Gorguts, Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, Obituary, Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Dismember, Unleashed, Grave, Entombed, etc. Or some murder metal like Macabre. See how they handle the vocals lol.
This Sounds like Heresy!
Definitely Heresy!
I just have to say again I love when you really want to headbang, but you stop yourself because you're offended by the lyrics. The internal struggle your project both in body language and energy is fantastic.
Well they shouldnt listen to any secular music is offensive anyone that believes in organize religion is brainwash cult
@@ninjagamermusic6246 edgy
@ivan - Probably true, but you're proving his point using this cookie cutter comeback.
This is my favorite Decide album, Legion is up there too.
Same here.
Well thats up to u to deicide 😂😂😂😂
@Trinity Matrix 😄 thanks for letting me know. I am going to watch this again. That needs a second thanks for the comment. Lol
legion was my introduction to deicide and that album i could listen to every single song on that record easily a death metal album i could listen to first to last song since death's "human " album which i rank as one of my top 5 all time best death metal records ever
finally a GOOD Deicide song, woot!!!!!!!
try Scars Of The Crucifix , i think it's better ..... i wish deicide witness jesus return so they make him pregnant LOL
The lyrics sound like they were written by an edgy 14teen year old tho
@@Kidcrowley I don't care, lyrics/vocals area mere backdrop for me, no matter what style of music, I'm in it for the music, first and foremost.. But I can see what you're getting at.. Or some Edgleord that was once Christian, but had a 'falling out' with God, and their way of trying to rail against him :D
If you really wanna see egdelord stuff, check out their phonecalls with Bob Larson, also Bob Larson's interview with the Satanic death metal band, Acheron is also gold edgleord stuff, too.
ShiftaelV2 i will, i sense some cringe mixed with laughs coming from those videos, perfect mix lmao
Blaspherion or Suicide sacrifice is better
SEPULTURA - DESPERATE CRY. Greatest thrash/death metal ever!

DEICIDE ... my own story. I was 14 years old (1990), growing up in a protestant small town in germany. I didn´t like it to go to the relgion-classes one day in the week on afternoon. All do it only for the money, cause you get donations from the town-people and you give them a piece of cake. So I NEEDED this money to buy my first E-Guitar :-D. One day, I sit in the church with my friend, Metallica Patches on the jacket, reading the new Metal Hammer Magazine. And there was a site with this band in ... everyone covered in blood and Glen with this branding (inverted cross) on his forehead. That were my guys *laugh*. I straight bought the first album and I love it until today. The second one "Legion" was also ok, but the rest after was to boring for me. But everytime I hear songs of Deicide, I am back sitting in the church, first row, with this metal-magazine and I think the priest was concerned *g*
"Legion" was trailblazing for the time and still holds up as an extremely complex and technical album.
The "Once upon the cross" parts specifically at the beginning and the end are one of the best Deicide moments.
Fuck them. It’s all about the Hoffman bros.
Woohooo!!! Deicide is my #3 favorite band of all time. Seen them 10+ times. Their last album was absolutely phenomenal.
I enjoy Deicide as much as the next person but lets be honest : it's attention grabbing and meant for shock factor which it completely did back in the early to mid 90's and still to this day though not nearly as much. They use the same formula over and over lyrically with things switched around for new albums. Musically, most would say Deicide has gotten better over the years though, of course, thats up for debate. I'm no music journalist or any kind of reviewer, however I'm still a fan for the sake of their music, and how they helped define the genre - just not what they represent lyrically. If you're going to check them out in the future give the newer material a chance too. Anyway, thanks for doing an awesome reaction!
Disagree. Their earlier stuff is far better, though the last album was really fantastic. Of course to each their own but imo after Serpents the decline begun.
He was an actual theistic satanist before becoming atheist later on in life. His lyrics on the old albums are very much what he once truly believed.
Paradise Lost - Faith Divides Us Death Unites Us
Second that! The official video!
Love the album “deicide” as well.
Deicide gave me some of the best pits of my life!!
Hah! AGREED! I only have had the chance to see them once so far, but I saw them on 2 hits of acid and kicked ass/got my ass kicked in that pit. Felt it the next day for sure;)
Deicide- dead by Dawn is a Masterpiece...🔥🔥
Oh yeah Dead By Dawn is a massive eargasm 👹👹👹
The greatest album of all time. Remember buying it at a Tower Records in 1995 @ 14yo. Listen to it daily still. The opening comes from the movie ‘Last Temptation of Christ’
Immolation - "Father, You're Not a Father"
Here In After album, Towards Earth, Immolations finest.
Deicide's eponymous album will always be the best. Sacrificial Suicide and Dead By Dawn are epic songs. Very influential when I was a 14 year old kid. Over the years, the shock factor has worn off, but the muisc still remains influential.
Jesus Christ has gone to prepare up a place for me."
"Great."
"And where he is, I'm going to be there someday."
"Great."
No more tears, no more death, no more dying, no more pain."
"Beautiful."
"Where are you going to be?
"IN TORMENT IN HELL!"
That was my first exposure to Death Metal... at the tender age of 12-13.
Legion is my favorite album. High school days.
Ah, the old Bob Larson crank calls from Glen Benton! wish i could've heard it back then, just heard what's on You Tube, which barely scratches the surface from what i hear, Benton would pester the shit out of Larson then hang up, call back again, tell him "We're coming to Denver,Bob and You're Gonna DIIEE, HA HA, FUCK YOU!" or something like that, that's some great radio right there😂
Cool I like that song torment in hell
@@harryzimmerman7991 just googled that..thanks man! absolutely hilarious!
I actually got married on the 6th of June 2006. Deicide played a special show in Denver. of course we went. met Glen and had a blast! I have a lot more Deicide stories, but this one sticks out the most. the other big one involved Swat team and a riot. stay metal. \m/
I miss the Hoffman era of Deicide. Saw these guys 4-5 times in the early to mid 90s. Highly recommend the band Goatwhore.
Evil E amd brian was the band. I still talk to eric to this day
Goatwhore is good, Soilent Green (Bens’ other band) is better imho…
I am a catholic and I love this song
Lol
You're a bad catholic then
@@rickstoner5553 that comment was from 3 years ago I don’t listen any metal anymore I know now that this music is bad I won’t listen to it anymore
Perfect, now you should listen to priest of sodom from cannibal corpse
Seeing Deicide live is unbelievable!!!
I saw them 20 or so years ago with Marduk and Gorguts. LITERALLY one of the best of hundreds of concerts Ive been to. I personally don’t buy in to any of this satanic nonsense, however the music is killer!
Deicide - 'Dead But Dreaming' or 'Behead The Prophet (No Lord Shall Live)' off of "Legion". Fucking awesome album. I lost at least half my hair banging that masterpiece.
This was the song that got me into death metal!! My cousin bought the CD when it came out. I think I was 14 at the time. Big Metallica fan, but not really into death metal yet. He forgot the CD at my house and I would listen to it all the time with my old school over ear Sony headphones, thinking this is the heaviest shit I've ever heard. And I fucking loved it!!!!
cd or cassette?
Sick song! Their early albums with Hoffman brothers on guitars were the shit. Also Legion is an album worth listening to from start to finish, its crazy, the music is insane and the sound is perfect!
Opeth - Baying Of The Hounds or Opeth - Blackwater Park
I remember when I bought that record on cassette...I was 17 now am 42🤣
Hell yeah, my favorite band.
The opening to the song is from the movie The Last Temptation of Christ. One of my favorite Willem Dafoe movies.
Excellent choice! When this album and song came out...it was a big deal! It was groundbreaking as the artwork, sound, lyrics, look, the whole package had not been done before...not to this extent. THis was the album you cringed to look at int eh CD store, or looked at and wondered what it sounded like but didnt have the ball to buy it. (no youtube to listen to for free back then). I remember when I bout this album and listened to it at night while sleeping, waking up and thinking I have to turn this shit off LOL. BY todays standard this isnt a big deal. BUt 25 years ago...this was a big fukin deal! Especially the inner artwork that was covered up by a censorship sleeve!
I actually met Glen Benton after a show in upstate NY (Saratoga Winners), got a few guitar pics, autograph, shook hands, chatted a few minutes. He was totally cool.
-Destruction "Curse the Gods".
-Dissection "Black Dragon".
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? ... And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" This is the only saying which appears in more than one Gospel, and is a quote from Psalm 22:1
My favorite Deicide Album hands down !!!
Deathspell Omega - Kenose I, for some serious black metal
@ourworlds atwar Yes!
Morbid Angel - Immortal Rites
Start off an old-school death metal week with this one
You guys should have a Series called " Christians vs Deicide" LOL . You would listen to a Deicide song each week as a weekly series.
Jesus says three different things as he dies in the cross in three different gospels. You're being deceptive at 8:28, Vin.
Wouldn't be the first time.
This is true, but keep in mind most Christians believe in a weird composite Gospel where everything they describe happened, even if some events contradict one another.
What does Jesus say?
@@100mphFastball Depends which gospel you read.
In Mark and Matthew, his last words are full of confusion, doubt and angst: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me??" (Mt 27:46; Mk 15:34)
In Luke, his dying utterance is a solemn and prayerful mantra which reflects Psalm 31:5: "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." (Lk 23:46)
In John, it's a stoic and defiant mic-drop: "It is finished." (Jn 19:30)
Completely different phrases with completely different tones and attitudes, all quoted as being his last dying words on the cross. Yet Vin will dishonestly sweep this fact under the carpet and deceptively conflate all three, implying that there's some congruence between the gospel accounts.
It'd be like when John Wayne Gacy was executed, and one witness says his last words were "Kiss my ass"... another witness claims he said "I'm sorry" and a third witness quotes him as saying "I'm innocent".... then later historians say "His last words were "I'm innocent, I'm sorry, kiss my ass."

my fave DEICIDE song would have to be "oblivious to evil"

Its always fascinating to me how you can belive in something that sounds so fantasy like, i don't mean to offend of course but in my eyes you two seem borderline crazy sometimes, its so strange to me, i could not for the life of me truly believe in any of that, its all too good to be true, it all sound like a childrens tale, justice, fearness, righteousness, a hero and a villain, all things that have no place in our cruel and ruthless world as i see it. I can see how religion makes people happy though, gives you a reason to live, hope, meaning, all things i lack as a nihilist.
Agreed. I find religious beliefs(including the drivel Glen Benton writes about) to be so ridiculous. I think there is a lot of good philosophy in religion-and a lot of bad, but to base your whole life around a story book, to me, is one of the biggest wastes.
Opeth - Demon of the Fall!!
Would be fun to see you discuss the lyrics in a Death song such as See Through Dreams (concerning blind people), Altering the Future (abortion) or Genetic Reconstruction (science intervening with biology)!
These are the types of christians I like... The kind that all should be... The kind that listen and hold judgements.
How can you say Glen Benton doesn't have the Biblical Background of information when He, Mr. Benton....is quoting and reciting obscure quotes and passages from the Book??? In truth...Mr. Benton knows a lot more about the Bible then you give him credit for. "Keep your friends close.....and your enemy's closer." To write these lyrics...he must have done his homework.
ABout TIME!! Next one from this album....WHEN SATAN RULES THE WORLD>
*As verbs the difference between commit and commend is that commit is to give in trust; to put into charge or keeping; to entrust; to consign; -- used with to, unto while commend is to congratulate or reward.

SOAD: Chop Suey.
Father!!!-Father!!!
Into your hands,
I commend my spirit;
Father!!!-Father!!!
Why have you forsaken me...
One of the many things I love about you guys, is that you can still rate a song highly, even if you don't enjoy it. Most people would say something to the effect of "this is garbage" and throw it away if they didn't agree with it or even like it.
Speechless .Glen has put you and your god on the spotlight.
Gotta love the mental gymnastics it takes to A.) Believe your god can do anything (omnipotence) but also B.) Can't just forgive humanity because it would be "unfair" to satan.
I'm so glad I don't subject myself to such obviously contradictory and false beliefs. Apostatcy was the best decision I've ever made.
Very little of this is actually discussing the song itself. It's mostly just Bible stories and "NUH-UH!" I thought at least some of it was going to be about the actual music itself. Deicide is talented, whether or not you agree with their lyrics. I still say the same about Crimson Thorn and Seventh Angel, despite no longer holding Christian beliefs. Talent is talent, despite ideology.
"Execution Guaranteed" album by ANGEL WITCH, the song "Before The Storm"!
I think sacrificial suicide is a known song of déicide. There was a rockumentary in 95 dancing with the devil which had a micro interview with glen Benton from déicide
Bolt Thrower shreds of sanity or Armageddon Bond or just about any song
I grew up with this song I didn’t realize how Christian this was till now 😂
And what people don’t realize is Satan only has power of deceit, the people’s choice “including” Jesus’ choice in the garden is what put him on the cross satan lost through it all.
Body Count's "Carnivore" album, the song You Can't Stop The "Bum-Rush".....Like Hell!
I am not sure even the Gospels can agree on Jesus' last words, so how can we know 2000 years later? Speculation at best. Great discussions as always, and that's from an atheist.
The first ANGEL WITCH album, the song "Flight 19"!
I think the song sees going to the crucifiction, believing he was saving the souls of manking was either vanity, or that he was prideful. But to turn away was to abandon his holy mission, so either way he sinned. Damned if you do damned if you don't, Satan trapped him in a no win situation.
My dying bride-the crown of sympathy. Trust me.
On my first listen to deicide I felt like I had been teleported into the depths of hell and back
Humans are aren't inherently good, but on the other hand, we aren't inherently evil either. We become what we become based on the choices we make as well as the characters that we possessed.
The lead singer, Glen Benton, burned an upside down cross in his forehead.
Uh oh here we go again. I like the songs on this album but never really cared for the production. Satan Spawn, the Caco-Daimon would of been awesome to react to. Thats off the Legion album. God Dethroned - Grand Grimoire, Naglfar - Brimstone Gate, Necrophobic - Eye Of the storm would also be some other good songs to react to.
GOD DETHRONED!!! Easily in my top 10 favorite bands and for sure one of the most underrated metal bands in history.

Satan Spawn the Caco-Daimon is my all time favorite Deicide song.

That sample in the begining was taken from a film called The Last Temptation of Christ. Trick or Betrayed also has a sample from the movie. You guys should watch that movie. It shows Jesus in a different light, and tested in ways many Christians find offensive.
