    As a beginner artist trying to learn comic style art, this is the most useful video for hair. Showing how you start out blocking in shapes really helped me get started. Thank you!

    This was a much needed tutorial. When I draw longer hair, from certain angles, they look stiff like playmobil hair wigs...

    I wait until the end or a portrait drawing to draw hair detail, and it's always a lot more work than I anticipated. It takes a lot of patience.

      You're welcome! Keep pushing....it's so hard to do all the things you need to in order to get there, but it's absolutely worth it. And doing that work right away puts you light years ahead of anyone that won't

    I must have watched this series a few times and still find it inspiring while I work on my practice sketches. I still find it funny how people see it as a magic trick when I draw something so fast.

    Thanks for your clarity and the pauses to illustrate your terminology with the small side sketches. I also appreciate the advice to "erase and try it again" since the illusion of a finished drawing is that it was made with no mistakes in one continuous (and magically perfect) pass.

    The first video I’ve seen like this. I’m more interested in sketching. I work in colored pencils these days but the most money I’ve made was in the sketch, which was years ago. I want to get back to the basics to the beginning. Sketching portraits was my first love, but I got burnt out. Took me 5 years to get back to my beloved art. For me art is a need, not a want. It’s like food. Anyway I want to thank you so sincerely for these tutorials.

      @@DavidFinchartist It is simple, but it's easy to miss if there's no name for it. It's a nice name, too. You also mentioned "opening a window" in the hair, I believe, to show layering / depth. Another winner.

    I always think of hair in ribbons being twisted, hanging and draping over shoulders and then adding a couple thin strands flowing with the ribbon.

    I’m not really a comic style artist as far as my drawings go, but your step-by-step breakdowns and tutorials for composition and shading of everyday things are soo helpful. I’ve been practicing and trying to apply them to my daily drawings and doodles. Love your channel and love your work. 🔥🙌🏻

    I noticed that the way u hold your pencil to sketch is higher (close to middle of the pencil) whereas i usually hold mine lower closer to the tip. Probably a bad habit of mine that i need to fix to be able to get flowy n smooth steady lines like you. Thank you for the awesome tutorials!

    videos is priceless....In regards to drawing Hair have you seen the book by Jack Hamm
    Drawing the head and Figure there is a section called The Natural fall of Hair. I found it
    extremely helpful in understanding the way behaves. Thanks again Dave cant wait to see more.

One question about drawing hair, could you do a video about drawing short curly hair? That's a hard one for me to get right. I know it's not the typical hairstyle in comics. Thanks in advance.

    Been Drawing For Years And Yes (female) Hair Is Still A Challenge For Me But On The Other Hand That's What Keeps Drawing And Creating Interesting.
    Since I Follow David And Watch Him Draw Focused I Noticed I'm Making Progress.

    How do you ink the hair, cus like drawing it isn’t as hard when you get used to it but when you like ink hair mostly if the hair is just black and moves around, the hair looks just flat

      For me, it was too. Organic forms are such a challenge until you get the flow, and unfortunately there's no way I'm aware of to shortcut it, other than to know what to avoid. It's totally doable and very easy though...just give it time
