"I've basically got a hair line." I'm jealous, I'm bald. Lol
Richard Dunn well don’t be, David is bald too lmao
Haha, yeah.....I can relate with that. At least I can draw a hairline...
Mr. Finch is one of the verrry few comic artists that give back to the comic community. Most artists retire and forget about us.
Breaking down one of the most difficult things to draw in such a clear and understandable way! Thanks David, I need to practice this a ton. It is so helpful to be equipped with knowledge like this.
Thanks Erick!!
That’s why all my figures are bald, male and female.
I literally break down in stress if I can't draw something correctly
This was a much needed tutorial. When I draw longer hair, from certain angles, they look stiff like playmobil hair wigs...
Thank you David
Glad it was helpful!
Grettings from Guatemala, David. This tutorial will help me a lot
I'm so glad! Greetings back!
Thanks for your clarity and the pauses to illustrate your terminology with the small side sketches. I also appreciate the advice to "erase and try it again" since the illusion of a finished drawing is that it was made with no mistakes in one continuous (and magically perfect) pass.
I’m not really a comic style artist as far as my drawings go, but your step-by-step breakdowns and tutorials for composition and shading of everyday things are soo helpful. I’ve been practicing and trying to apply them to my daily drawings and doodles. Love your channel and love your work. 🔥🙌🏻
Aaaaaamazing! You give a wonderful breakdown of the technique. I’ve been drawing for 35+ years. This is the BEST Instructor I’ve ever found. Finally I can get some of those trickier items down! Woot! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thank you!
As the visually impaired artist, I really appreciate how you explain things and zoom in when you need to. That really helps me grasp the detail that is needed. Thank you very much!
So fluid, so organic! Simple tips, deep inspiration! Thx soo much!
I’ve been binging on these videos the last couple of days. Amazing content. It’s like watching a magician revealing his tricks. Only obvious when you know how it’s done.
Massive respect from Japan!🙇♂️
I want to watch other hair tutorials like how to draw blond and colored hair or ringlet.
You can always tell a Silvestri-trained artist by their hair. :D This is awesome, Dave! Thanks!
forgive my ignorance, what does Silvestri-trained mean?
@@dagan8659 Dave got his start working for Marc Silvestri at Top Cow Comics.
Thank you so much, Dave! It means a lot to me to learn from you and to be able to improve so fast and keep the dream alive!
You're welcome! Keep pushing....it's so hard to do all the things you need to in order to get there, but it's absolutely worth it. And doing that work right away puts you light years ahead of anyone that won't
I've been struggling with hair for months. Thank you so much for posting this.
I must have watched this series a few times and still find it inspiring while I work on my practice sketches. I still find it funny how people see it as a magic trick when I draw something so fast.
She's straight up gorgeous. Great video as always,Sir
You’re the best artist man. Thanks for the tutorial! Greetings from Connecticut lol
I always think of hair in ribbons being twisted, hanging and draping over shoulders and then adding a couple thin strands flowing with the ribbon.
Always solid art and advice to be found here. For all the eye pleasing flash, there's a solid technical foundation in every drawing. Kudos! 👍
Thanks a lot!
Love your art. Have been a huge fan for years.
I love your work on ultimate x-men. The stand-alone issue 41 still stands as one of the best x-men i've ever read. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on youtube.
Thanks a lot! That was the Wolverine in a cave issue, I think. That was Bendis at his best.
This is so great! Thank you for making this tutorial.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us
Thank you so much David. What you are doing with the channel is simply phenomenal.
I appreciate that!
Your contribution in art is amazing sir
She looks amazing ☺️ Thank you for another great tutorial! Your hair always looks great on your drawings, now I know how to do so ☺️
Cheers and have a great day!
Thanks a lot, Dr. Rocke!!
I love this and get a lot from it. Would love a real-time video to draw along with. Thanks Dave.
These tutorials are gold! Thanks so much for doing these Dave.
Thanks Russ!
Thanks for making this David!!!! It’s so easy to understand, the way you break things down is amazing. Time to practice my hair skills
Thanks a lot Art Jedi! And thanks for your comments on the stream!
Thank you for doing this video. :) Great art as always!
Thanks Sir, these vids helping us a lot as a beginner artist peace
You are so good at explaining what you do that I hit the like buttons before I actually watch the videos. Thank you .
This is gonna help me so much! Thanks David!!!
Ur back !!!! I follow ur art style in my drawings.
Thank you Mr finch that was very helpful.
Thanks for the video :) Keep em coming
Thank you , i was needing this.
Been Drawing For Years And Yes (female) Hair Is Still A Challenge For Me But On The Other Hand That's What Keeps Drawing And Creating Interesting.
Since I Follow David And Watch Him Draw Focused I Noticed I'm Making Progress.
So Thanks David. 🤘🔥😊
Such an awesome piece and info. Thanks Sir, for all the amazing content. Superb 🙂
Thank you so very much Mr Finch
Another perfect tutorial!! Thanks Dave!! 👍 🙏 ✍️ ✏️
Thanks again!
Very nice tutorial on drawing hair.
Gracias maestro!, and greattings from Bolivia.
🔴 AMAZING!!
THANKS, DAVID!
I like how your videos are in real time and not spead up. It helps me grasp what you are talking about better. Keep up the good work! One question about drawing hair, could you do a video about drawing short curly hair? That's a hard one for me to get right. I know it's not the typical hairstyle in comics. Thanks in advance.
This was something that I really needed. Thanks David!
Welcome!
GreatTips, cheers from Brazil
A long awaited tutorial . I always struggle to draw and render hair, especially dark hair...thanks a 1000 ...David ... My online Guru (teacher) !
Happy to help!
I love it ❤
So realistic
so beautiful
Holy crap did I need this.
Awesome 😎 this helps with developing a solid foundation for me. Ty David, now I need to apply it to learn it
Thanks Jordon!
This is amazing, thank you for this!
You're very welcome!
Hello from Canada!! Thanks a lot
Hi David Thanks for letting us all watch you work. The Knowledge your passing on in your
videos is priceless....In regards to drawing Hair have you seen the book by Jack Hamm
Drawing the head and Figure there is a section called The Natural fall of Hair. I found it
extremely helpful in understanding the way behaves. Thanks again Dave cant wait to see more.
I haven't seen it, no...I'll have to check that out, thanks!
Perfect breakdown! Love this technique bro!😊🔥 i appreciate it!
Thanks Mighty! I keep calling you Mighty....haha I hope that's alright
@@DavidFinchartist Thats totally fine! 😊
Lovely drawing
Thanks amazing !!!!
Amazing
This was so helpful
would love to see someone do a video on dynamic hair and how to use it to “generate” motion in a 2-d image
I noticed that the way u hold your pencil to sketch is higher (close to middle of the pencil) whereas i usually hold mine lower closer to the tip. Probably a bad habit of mine that i need to fix to be able to get flowy n smooth steady lines like you. Thank you for the awesome tutorials!
You draw this without sketch
you are a master
Thanks! I've done it a whole lot. I sketch more when I need to for sure
Thank you for doing this. 😊
My pleasure 😊
Great tutorial Mr. Finch!!! I joined SkillShare for your class..
That's awesome, thanks a lot! Make sure to post a project!
The first video I’ve seen like this. I’m more interested in sketching. I work in colored pencils these days but the most money I’ve made was in the sketch, which was years ago. I want to get back to the basics to the beginning. Sketching portraits was my first love, but I got burnt out. Took me 5 years to get back to my beloved art. For me art is a need, not a want. It’s like food. Anyway I want to thank you so sincerely for these tutorials.
Thanks a lot, Rhonda!
Great 🤙🏻
Another great video! Thanks Dave. I just need to practice patience, lol.
Thanks a lot, Lance! And thank you so much for your review on my class. It means a lot.
Always awesome!!
Thanks so much Dan!!
Thanks David for making this! Just wondering if we can have a video where you flip through some comics you have worked on and just talk through how you approached it or some behind the scenes commentary- idea from Sheldon in the discord just voicing it!
I'll do this...it's a great idea. It'll have to be a separate kind of video though. Not so much a tutorial
Yeah that works! Whatever you can David, Thanks!
Just wanted to say a thank you for always listening to us and trying to fit in videos based off of our reccomendations and questions! Really helps and I still can’t believe that it’s _the_ David finch haha!
🙏 🙏 😊 thank you!
I subscribed the minute you said "line of beauty," and explained the concept.
Thanks! It's a very simple thing to incorporate in your work
@@DavidFinchartist It is simple, but it's easy to miss if there's no name for it. It's a nice name, too. You also mentioned "opening a window" in the hair, I believe, to show layering / depth. Another winner.
Thanks David finch for these videos I appreciate the help I am a artist myself and also keep it up
Thanks, will do!
@@DavidFinchartist your welcome
Great video David! For a future video, maybe another texture video tackling water and leather skin, and maybe a video on how to draw organized chaos like debris and rubble?
Yeah, actually, that list is perfect, thanks. I'm going to do exactly this very soon. Thanks Bob! Great to see you here.
Damn, tht was the first tchnique video that worked for me on th very first attempt!
Lov eit😍🔥🔥🔥
Gracias David
Thank you.
You make it seem very easy, i love your technique, greetings from a fellow left handed 🤓🤚
Thank you! 😃
Very very thanks for my heart
thank you so much sir 🙏🙏🙏🇮🇳
Thx david finch that really help me to draw a hair beacause i tride to draw a hair and its horable.
Im new to your channel! You have gained a subcriber. Keep up the good one, you have baby artists aspiring. (:
Ah, the Bob Ross of comics
Pretty helpful
Saludos
Have you thought about teaching a complete online course live on how to draw comics via Zoom? From anatomy, foreshortening and perspective to buildings and stages and monsters?
So when you go to ink this, would you outline those rendered/white spaces first? Do you have any videos on inking? I've just discovered your channel and the livestreams and am learning so much!
David can you please teach us how to draw different angels,it would be very helpfull for me because I'm planning to start my own comic. I've always loved you'r art style.
Omg thank you!! I was waiting for a video on this topic. I hope some time you can make a video just roughing out a tonne (or a few but in more detail) of different hairstyles on both males and females
I did some other hairstyles and it ended up being an hour and a half long....I'm tring to figure out how to get the other stuff out there now. And thanks!
David Finch that sounds amazing! Thanks so much. I was also wondering: when you’re drawing, do you draw your light source as an arrow or indicate it at all like you often do for your videos? Or do you just infer where the light source is given your experience?
Thank you
I think a line of beauty video might be cool, unless there's already one.
Awesome video David! Hair is not as easy to draw as a lot of people think
For sure. It's easy once you get the hang of it, but getting there can be tough
Will you be doing tips also on curly hair and copying specific hairstyles?
I know this was posted a few years ago, but I am just now discovering it. I love it. What type pencil are you using?
Another fantastic tutorial, super inspiring. I was wondering, do you have updated links for your tools? The current ones all error out. Thanks for videos!
I'll have to get on that!
Cool
I'm having a problem with long VERY curly hair like those on a greek woman. Can you teach us how to do those?
I did that when I recorded this, but it ran too long. I'm going to find a way to get that posted very soon.
Could you do hands loved the vid Mr.Finch
Thanks David I asked Erick Grover Art to tell you to make a new how to draw hair tutorial
Welcome. He's the one to ask, for sure
she reminds me of the girl from your ascension comics from waay back..lol!
David I love your videos, and I would like to see a video referring to women's mouths in different expressions.
Expressions are a priority for me to get out there soon. Thanks!
@@DavidFinchartist Thanks David!!!!
