Al Funcoot moon pies are more of a cookie texture with marshmallow covered with chocolate. whoopie pie is more like a cake with icing in the middle, an old lady at my job is from Pennsylvania and made these for the customers.
Those were not moon pies, those are whoopee pies. Moon pies are marshmallow middle, sort of a graham cookie (or biscuit), and a waxy sort of coating of different flavors. Sorry, but waxy is the only way I can describe the texture of the coating. Also banana moon pies are the best.
It isn't as sticky or liquid as ganache. It has the consistency and mouthful of eating a crayola left in the seat of a schoolbus...and I realize t sounds likeI just admitted I eat crayons in the back of the short bus through the slats on my helmet.
The coating is a nod to when they were almost exclusively found in blue-collar workers' boxes. Normal milk chocolate coating and others they tried either melted to the wrapper or crumbled in the cold or when jostled in the box, or "bloomed" as chocolate tends to often do with age, so they went with the more durable and longer-lasting "waxy" chocolate coating, which also improved the shelf life of the inner cookies that tended to get soggy in the other coatings.
You know the pre-purchased "liquid" chocolate they dip strawberries in? The microwavable stuff? That's the moon pie chocolate. Not bad, but not really chocolate. Fortunately there's not much of it on the sandwich. Tip...they're best when they're stale. Fresh ones are crisp, stale ones are soft.
I soooo enjoy watching these hilarious young Irish ladies and men taste testing our American food! LOL They area so funny! I especially love watching the long haired man and the salt & peppered short haired man, they crack me up with their faces, enthusiasm, and commentary! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP IT COMING!!!
I absolutely adore peanut butter and remain confused by foreigner's rejection of this miraculous food that can be breakfast, lunch, dinner, drink, and dessert.
Born and raised and live in Michigan. All of us in our house but my youngest child love peanut butter. The only thing “peanut buttery” she will eat is a Reese’s peanut butter cup.
The more I watch these videos, the more I fall in love with the people from Ireland!!! They seem to have great senses of humor and would be people I would want to hang out with. I so want to visit there.
Exactly. As an Ohioian I am glad to see Facts actually try buckeyes because it is usually quite hard to screw them up. Here in Ohio you can actually buy buckeyes at convenience stores and gas stations.
You gave them buckeyes and actually called them "buckeyes" instead of "peanut butter balls" or some other generic name. As an Ohioan (nicknamed "the Buckeye State," where these candies are extremely popular for obvious reasons), I am very happy right now.
Dermott is becoming increasingly like that fun uncle who comes over to look after you and your siblings for the weekend and has absolutely no idea what to do. Y'all were great as always
Their cookies are harder and have a more delicate flavor most times. But to us, dipping a chocolate chip cookie in tea sounds gross but dipping shortbread actually sounds kinda good to me.
But snickerdoodles are so good! Even though I feel like it's geared more towards the older gen haha but my like towards them might just be attributed to all the Pennsylvanian Dutch in my area lol
I think they don't get that we(non- Canadian or South) Americans don't drink the vast quantities of tea that they do.Therefore, our cookies don't have to be hard enough to stand up to several dunks. I love me a soft snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, etc. I grew up with dry Italian tea cookies. Almost always citron, licorice or candied cherries in them. Yuck.
Dineen SerpaAnd the word Cookie is a Dutch word for little cake, so our cookies may tend to be more cakey. I personally prefer cookies that are more biscuit-like...I mean Irish biscuit-like, not American biscuit-like.
Check out the Are Ya Having That channel. Leather Jacket Guy (sometime Facts contributor) and John Sharpson (also a Facts star) eat MREs sent in by an American fan.
That part when that one lady said how the food disappeared and that guy said, "Well you did eat it" was the best part. Dry humor, I love it hahaha. Oh I love Snickerdoodles! Favorite cookie to make hehe. I did once have a Mississippi Mud pie and oh yeah it's heavy, I couldn't eat the size portions ya'll gave them. It's why I prefer desserts like snickerdoodles because they are lighter lol.
An an Ohioan, I know I should complain about Buckeyes being called Buckeye Balls, but honestly...I'm just happy they tried something from my state. When you live in a state that seems to only exist during presidential elections, it's nice to know our state is actually noticed for other things at least once in a while.
For the first time, they chose good food. P. S. That’s a Whoopie pie, moon pies are flatter and have marshmallow cream and a nice vanilla-y cake cookie thing covered in chocolate
I was born and raised in Ohio and know all about Buckeyes. I'm referring to the candy and the actual nut that comes off of a tree period I have never in my life heard them referred to as buckeye balls. They are just called Buckeyes. and you can get some at the store however you really need some buddies mother or grandmother to make them for them to be good.
I think that's probably true. When it's drizzlie and gray on your island, Paul, come out to the Arizona Desert(December-March). You can try one region's food and have lovely weather. We'll take you around.
I have only heard them called Buckeye balls. Unsure if it is a slight name change depending on region of the states you are from. I lived most of my life in Michigan
lawnjart16 they're called buckeyes because the state nut from Ohio is a buckeye. They're called a buckeye because they resemble that of a deers eyes which a male deer is commonly referred to as a buck. Growing up in Ohio you have to know this lol
I keep seeing other Ohioans making comments like this, when i saw them come up the only things I could think was "Who the f*** calls them buckeye balls? they're just buckeyes." Maybe it's just because I grew up here and have multiple buckeye trees in my yard that i get why they look they way they do.
They're "called buckeyes because the state nut from Ohio is a buckeye"? I very much doubt that's true at all. They're called buckeyes because they're meant to resemble buckeyes.
Buckeyes! They're not baked, but I've made them with my family since I was little. I was born and raised in L.A., but my Mom's from Ohio. They're named for the buckeye nut, that comes from the buckeye tree. Don't eat real buckeyes, because they're poisonous 0_0
True. Aesculus hippocastanum (Ohio species is actually aesculus glabra, AKA fetid buckeye) is quite toxic, and many children get poisoned every year thinking it's an edible nut, like a regular chestnut, which is much, MUCH spikier, with nasty sharp, thin, spikes all over that are HELLISH if a chestnut burr falls on you. I had a 'rash' from it for several months, while every now and then, a tiny spine would work its way out.
Them: “...peanut butter.” “Oh for ffffffff***!” Me: 😂 Peanut butter is amazing. I eat it with pancakes, cookies, candy bars, shakes, pies, fries, eggplants, oatmeal, and just about everything else.
*Americans don't know what baked goods are supposed to taste like.* They think that the more sugar you add, the better it tastes. Case in point: the most popular brand is Pepperidge Farm. Which are somewhat disappointing, so you end up eating the whole packet, hoping you will eventually be satisfied-but you aren't. The best bakeries in New York are French (obviously), and, weirdly, Chinese.
I really want them to have a southern (or just mostly NC) taste test where they get NC BBQ with slaw and hushpuppies, hot dogs all the way, moon pies, sweet tea, Cheerwine, and stuff like that.
Irish people try carrot cake for the first time please! The good kind with cream cheese frosting please. Love all y'all and thanks for the great vids! ^_^
I love that they give them peanut butter almost Every.Single.Time! And it's interesting that something such a staple for kids growing up here is unheard of over there.
"Like, I've never been to America. I'm sorry." Oh, don't be sorry. The US is a huge country. Every time I watch another video of the people at Facts eating more American food, it's clear just how much of this country I've never been to, myself.
That moon pie in Pennsylvania be a whoopee pies in eastern to Central PA, and gobs in central To Western PA ..it's mainly Amish and they have many different flavors an variety of it like red velvet, pumpkin and pumpkin cream, and much more... A moon pie s different in Pennsylvania cause it's flatter like a wheel
First time I ever had a Snickerdoodle was in geography class, when we were trying foods from around the world (Germany?). They were crisp and had ground walnuts, I believe, sprinkled on them.
I'm an American, with Irish heritage/ancestors, and I fucking love this channel. Edit: that is a whoopie pie, but you're Irish call it what ever you want like that dark black beer you drink harp.

Mayonnaise and pickle relish! To hide the taste of the "meat". My mom always "stretched" the plain product to feed more kids. Spoon of each in the potted meat, nice sandwich spread. Fed three.
Irish people, now there's a fun loving bunch! Have enjoyed spending covid time with my cheeky (do the Irish use this word) Irish friends. I have especially enjoyed the painting episode and the episode where we drank our way around Epcot. I'm sorry that you have had to eat some of the worst American food. After meeting all of you, I think I would take a trip to Ireland 🇮🇪 just to meet the people. Thanks
Most European places aren't crazy about peanut butter like America. When I visited (I lived in Florida for a bit then visited family in Ohio) I found all the peanut butter candy so odd.
JustAnotherLondoner - it's like the root beer video. I was so shocked that they didn't like root beer. As an American, root beer is a part of growing up. Love root beer!
Yeh. I tried rootbeer when I lived in the states and it tasted like medicine to me. It's just what you grow up on. A very strange phenomenon really, that your upbringing effects your taste buds!
I remember that comment from lots of people. In the States, our medicine tastes like fake gross cherry, or mint or pepto-which is bubblegum vomit. In the old days or craft brewers now, root beer is made from roots or bark of sappy trees. Birch, sarsparilla, etc. It's one of those childhood association things. It can't be helped.
I'm an American and I've never had nor heard of buckeye balls. Rabble rabble. But it's a big country and there are lots of things I haven't had. They look good, I think I'll make some this weekend.
I’m from Maine where the whoopie pie is our official state treat, and I’ve been making them since the mid-60s. What they had there is NOT a moon pie, it’s a whoopie pie. Oh great, after seeing that now I gotta go make me some. Mmmm! : )
You don't need sunshine in Ireland. You've got that long-haired guy and that's the same thing
Tippi B , because of my hat right 🤔yea that's it 😆
Tippi B totally agree
His name is Paul and he really does seem a very cheerful person.
In every one that I have seen that Paul is in, he is the only ray of sunshine.
Tippi B Has Irish Jesus
The adorable bearded one is extra delightful today
i swear when i'm in dublin in a few months i'm going to search for him just to say hi
eliza washington For Once! Lol He's A Rotten One
Wonder why...
Because they took his pot away until he finishes the video!
I love him.
Are we really ignoring the guy joke??
"I give it pie(pi) out of 10"
We have to acknowledge that... Please
buckeye balls? WTF! They're just called buckeyes. probably would of helped if you had explained they look like the nut on Buckeye tree
That's a whoopie pie, not a moon pie. They're delicious, regardless!
thepeculiarcat What's the difference?
Al Funcoot moon pies are more of a cookie texture with marshmallow covered with chocolate. whoopie pie is more like a cake with icing in the middle, an old lady at my job is from Pennsylvania and made these for the customers.

I was about to say the same thing lol, whoopie pies are yummy, moon pies are satan's toilet paper!
I love the guy with the orange hat! He's so chill and laid back.
The moon pie looks more like a whoopie pie to me
that's because it is.... sometimes i think these videos are trolling us americans
Dana Voris I agree, it is not a moon pie, it is a whoopie pie
Yeah, maybe I'm wrong, but I thought a moon pie was just half a wagon wheel?
Those were not moon pies, those are whoopee pies. Moon pies are marshmallow middle, sort of a graham cookie (or biscuit), and a waxy sort of coating of different flavors. Sorry, but waxy is the only way I can describe the texture of the coating. Also banana moon pies are the best.
Waxy is pretty accurate

Haters gonna hate 🙂 besides they don't have any desert food to brag on about
What are you talking about? They've got potatoes, potatoes, potatoes, potatoes, and alcohol. Plenty of dessert there.
I'm not really sure but I think Dermot just doesn't like peanut butter. Perhaps at some point he'll confirm this.
yeah they really hate peanut butter.

Me Myself and Jesus i love how happy and laidback you are in your videos!
hugs from Texas...you're so fuckin' adorable!! lol
We love you Irish Jesus!😍😂😂😂 U r my favorite 😁
As an experienced individual, you are high as shit in this video 😂😂
That's not a moon pie, its a Whoopie pie.
They're not buck eyes; they're buckeyes. The seed of the buckeye tree, not some kind of eyeball from a deer.
The moon pies that I know are disgusting.
A.J. Steinman lol!
I was thinking the same thing! moon pies are flatter and bigger round. taste totally different from a whoopie pie.
Exactly. As an Ohioian I am glad to see Facts actually try buckeyes because it is usually quite hard to screw them up. Here in Ohio you can actually buy buckeyes at convenience stores and gas stations.

We need to find a way to get them some Blue Bell Icecream from Texas. My Irish roots love it and I know they would too.
Dermott is becoming increasingly like that fun uncle who comes over to look after you and your siblings for the weekend and has absolutely no idea what to do. Y'all were great as always
Katie P Dermot actually is my uncle
We in america dunk our cookies in milk, not tea!
Joe Baumgart yeah dunking cookies in tea sounds gross
Their cookies are harder and have a more delicate flavor most times. But to us, dipping a chocolate chip cookie in tea sounds gross but dipping shortbread actually sounds kinda good to me.
Some of us dunk our cookies in tea. Of course, as in Ireland, the tea has milk in it, so it's kinda the same deal.

@@HookedonChronics digestives, rich tea and custard creams are good in tea though.

Leather Jacket Guy just did that.

as an Ohioan I am offended at all of the people who didn't like the buckeyes
Heck with Dermot. I'm not an Ohioan and I have a mighty need for buckeyes.
Well now I'm intrigued. Irish people eat British ice cream.
Buckeyes are super Christmas candies for my family! They're named for the nut from the "buckeye" tree.
Irish people try Cinnabon!!!
Love these videos and everyone in them, especially the honest reactions
You should have brought the three mammys from last nights video back in for this video, surely they have the munchies
Stephen W ;)
The best food you'll ever eat is when you're stoned and have the munchies.
J-Me yeah I know it doesn't really matter what you eat it taste good haha
Yeah, that's a whoopie pie. In the fall, I make pumpkin whoopie pies. Instead of marshmallow cream, you make a cream cheese frosting. Delicious!
Paul is so lovely 😍i could spend hours and hours just watching him.
alegc23 ah thanks 😆 check out my playlist on facts 😂
I have! (multiple times 😂😳) It's not enough, though 😁
I’m from Maine where the whoopie pie is our official state treat, and I’ve been making them since the mid-60s. What they had there is NOT a moon pie, it’s a whoopie pie.
Oh great, after seeing that now I gotta go make me some. Mmmm! : )
Why be sorry that you haven't been to the US? I'm sorry that I haven't been to Ireland, but the apology is to myself, as I should've gone by now...
