Hey there, fellow sleep enthusiasts! Today, we are going to dive deep into the world of sleep tracking with the Oura Ring 3's latest beta sleep staging algorithm. As a scientist and sleep tracker reviewer, I'm constantly on the lookout for the latest and greatest in sleep technology. So, I headed to the sleep lab and tested two different Oura Ring 3's for three nights, comparing their results to professional scientific sleep tracking. And let me tell you, the Oura Ring didn’t do half-bad, though it still has its issues. During my testing, I compared the Oura Ring 3's sleep stage tracking to a polysomnography device, which is considered the gold standard in sleep tracking. I wanted to see how accurate the Oura Ring 3's algorithm was at detecting different stages of sleep, such as REM and deep sleep. But I didn't stop there. I also compared the Oura Ring 3's performance to other popular smartwatches and health trackers on the market, and also compared it to the old generation 2 Oura Ring, to see how it stacked up against the competition.
To test the Oura Ring 3's new beta sleep staging algorithm, I spent three nights at a sleep lab in Salzburg, Austria. The lab is run by Professor Manuel Schabus, who is an expert in sleep research. Professor Schabus kindly provided me with the equipment and people I needed for my testing, and I'm grateful for his help in making this possible. I will also test an app for sleep tracking that his team developed in a future video. During my testing, I wore both the Oura Ring 3 and a polysomnography device, or in short a PSG device, which is considered the gold standard in sleep tracking. The polysomnography device measures brainwaves, eye movements, heart rate, and muscle activity to accurately track sleep stages. By wearing both devices, I was able to compare how well the Oura Ring 3's algorithms tracked the various stages of sleep, such as REM and deep sleep, against the scientifically validated data from the polysomnography device. I tested both the old and new algorithms on different Oura Ring 3 devices to see how much the new beta algorithm had improved.

To add to this is there any interest in making smart scale videos?
Theres so many scales from fitness tracker companies, withings, fitbit, Huawei, amazfit
      Usually they range from 49-399
But i think having a really good QUANTIFIED analysis on these smart scales would be an amazing addition to your channel

Hey, I have a question regarding the heart rate monitoring results during "spinning" for Xiaomi Mi Band 7. Why, in the test conducted 10 months ago in the video titled "Mi Band 7 Scientific Review," did the "correlation (R)" coefficient come out above 90%? And in the video recorded 5 months later, namely "Best Smartwatch for Every Budget! Scientific Health Tracking Review of 75 Watches (2022)," why did the "correlation (R)" coefficient drop below 70%? Can you explain the reason for this difference? Software updates, in principle, are expected to improve the performance of fitness trackers rather than drastically reduce it.

Columns are ok, but when you see, for example, the second row, when Aura Ring detects light sleep, 15% of the time the PSG detects deep sleep, 75,9% it detects light sleep, 41% REM sleep and 18,3% awake state. It's like there is some overlap, but only when you take the ring as a reference. Why is that?

Any chance of a RingConn sleep test?

I'm not sure I have any groundbreaking comments here, but I looked at the prices of all these devices, and I don't feel you're recommending the Watch SE enough :) I'd rather see another device top the charts, but at perhaps 200 dollars for the SE I can't see how the others can compete. There are caveats to Apple's supremacy of course, but hard to believe viewers of this channel especially would pay 300 dollars for another device that also loses them another 10% or 20% in accuracy.

You have limited opportunity, why did you test so few devices?

I have a doubt. What is the source of your income for making these videos? The tests that you do are costly and time consuming. Sometimes you go to 3rd party labs and also involve more people. You rarely do upfront sponsorship. Is there any behind the scene sponsorship?

You must be new(and didn't pay attention when he explained it in the video).
Rob is a scientist and because of this, he has access to people working with professional lab equipment.
As for this particular video, he explained he got free acces to using the PSG device. In exchange for promising to make another video, where he review the lab's new sleep app software(or something along those lines).

@@danieljrgensen133 I have been watching his videos for quite some time now. I really appreciate the effort he puts in. But somewhere in my mind I have a doubt that how does he makes money.

@@RohitSurw He gets money from youtube when people, like yourself, watches his videos and gives them a like and subscribe to his channel. Another thing, and this may come as a surprise to you, not all people on youtube are mostly motivated by making money....some genuinely have a interest in the subject(s) they cover on youtube and don't mind dedicating some of their free time working on this! 😉

Slow down. Your rapid speech has become a hard to understand gabble.
Your speech is 3/10, while the rest of the video is 8/10.
